I can understand that people are bummed that you have to be human, and can empathize with the idea that a voiced protagonist has the potential to break immersion (it enhanced it in ME1 though) like in Mass Effect 2, but immediately yelling that the series is ruined forever with those 2 details in mind is a bit excessive.

Personally, I'm going to wait until they remove the ineventory system for streamlining, restrict us to 5 powers per class, and make the entire game about gathering followers to go on a suicide mission to save the universe from the Old Gods, who turn out to be an entire race of demigods from beyond the stars who have been exterminating all life on Thedas for eons in the past.

(No offense to Mass Effect players, I'm one myself.)

Welcome to an official game forum.

If your shocked by the response, and decided to create a thread asking people to calm down, I assume you've never visited one before.

People are idiots. The spaz over stupid stuff, they get angry over stupid stuff, and they scream DOOOOOOM left and right.

For example, the idea of fatalities (kill animations) in DA:O was met with a good amount of hate and flames. I got called immature for looking forward to them.

I know, sometimes it's hard to understand why people get so upset over a game. I loved DA:O and I'm upset I can't play as a dwarf. But I'm sure as hell not gonna condemn a game I know nothing about and that is being developed by a dev team I trust to make a good game.

Oh I've visited it before quite a bit.  But I didn't expect this level of whining.

People discuss and make assumptions based on information they're given. This is the only information BioWare is willing to give people for now. The information so far released sounds eerily familiar to things we heard about the Mass Effect games. Some people, myself incuded, don't like the idea of Dragon Age molding into that style of gameplay and all information released AT THIS POINT leads many to believe that's the mold DA2 will be cast in.

So one of two things can go down; either every one shuts up until all information about the game is released or people discuss and assess the available information as it slowly trickles in, which is what is happening now.

I'm all fine with what you're saying is happening, but just look at the forum.  People are dismissing this game as ruined forever, mass effect with swords, and insult to god and all that is holy, knowing 2 relevant facts.

That the main character is human.
That the main character is voiced.

My theory is that a lot of people have less to do over the summer and doomsaying helps spend the time.

In any case, so far, from the information we have, the game looks like it will be roughly like the previous one, but with a human PC, some changes to the dialogue and narrative systems, and general additions/developments in the areas of graphics and combat options.

Yup. People know next to nothing other than those to facts and dismiss the game as being worth nothing.  Nothing new. These people have the notion tht if they whine, complain and threaten not to buy the game it will make Bioware realise their profits will be crippled and change the game to satisfy the whiners.

And the funny thing is, if Bioware promised a game that deliver an identical gameplay experience to Dragon Age Origins, just with new story, new origins, new spells and stuff, people would whine about it being too similar.

Agreed
Theres no way to persuade idiots, to calm down.
I have faith in BioWare, and I'm pretty sure that we'll get a way better origin story than DA:O's were (Don't get me wrong, I loved DA:O's origins) in exchange of the only Human character stuff.:police:

Well we know a bit more then 2 relevant facts. But as I said, people are going to make assessments and draw conclusions based on what they have, some more reasonably then others. This is what they have so this is what they'll feel at the present time. It maybe unfair to draw the conclusions so early, but since when are humans fair.

I pretty much expected this kind of rage and I'm guessing Bioware was too. This is exactly what happened when they announced ME2 would have a "darker" feel to it. People were dying in the streets it was pandemonium.

Those are the two facts relevant to nearly all of the current complaints about Dragon Age 2.  And people have decided, without seeing any gameplay videos or reading anything else about it, that it means that they will be implimented identically to Mass Effect's usage of them.

And in return your whining about whining? Seriously people are free to voice their opinion that's what online forums are for. Besides, I can stand them taking away races for this game. I just want them to return in future dragon age games. Is that too much to ask?

Not really no, people are more often noting the references to the "dynamic combat system" and more cinematic experience, the dialogue wheel and things that seem to "dumb down" the game in general such as color coding the players emotions on said wheel, ect. Most these are pieces of information similar to those released for the Mass Effect games upon official announcement and that's where a lot of the conclusion jumping is coming from.

OK, not be rude or anything, but I think the number of "People, please calm down" threads are increasing a bit too much. But seriously, think in their perspective for a second. I don't think anyone on these forums(well, at least most) are mad at the devs and making riots. Everybody here love this game, they have immersed themselves so much in it, that they don't want it's sequel to be a let down. They're worried , not angry, especially because of the 'limited' information given by Bioware.

They're all making posts like "Bioware: if you guys are going to that, PLEASE DONT!!" and "Bioware: If you're going to remove this, DON'T!!", and every now and then, a David Gaider shows up, telling them not to make any wild assumptions before any actual information about the game has been released. Even though, he tells them that, threads like that keep appearing because people know that development is in the process. And, they want to stop the devs from doing anything, they think it's wrong, prematurely, before the devs delve deeper into the development process and cannot go back.

In my opinion, Bioware should not have given away even this little bit of information to the public. The information was very little, instead of providing a few answers to the public, has given way to more number of questions into their mind. So, instead of saying "I'm sorry, that discussion is for some other time", they should just wait until they get the clear from their higher-ups and then release chunks of information instead of teasers like these which lead to misunderstandings and rage.

This isn't whining.  its asking people as respectfully as I can (pardon me if I seem abrasive) to relax and stop panicing like its the end of the Dragon Age world over extrapolated "facts."  Its all fine and good to be dead set against the removal of races (I usually play human so I'm not getting the short end of the stick), and I can emphathize with the anger over the voicing of the character, but its the speculation that these two facts mean the game is ruined forever no matter what, that's what I'm calling an overreaction.

Its not whining...

And even if it was, whining about whining is better than whining about nothing.

You can't do that. Don't get me wrong, your hearts in the right place, and DAMMIT... I wish people would listen to you.

But threads like these end up with the haters going giving the mind-numbing paradox of "your whining about other people whining" which then leads to you saying "your whining about me whining about you whining." Which is in the right? I DON'T KNOW *BOOM Wishpig's head explodes*

Well I certianly don't think that means the game will be ruined. I mean I'll buy and I'll probably enjoy it. But I will miss being able to play an elf and multiple races and other features they've taken out. I just hope they give us back the option to choose our race in future games. I know they're not going to change this one now. But hopefully in the future they'll leave the choice of race up to the player.

The forums may get a bit ugly sometimes, but that's a reflection of how passionate people are about BioWare games. It's okay that fans of DAO feel a certain sense of entitlement towards the series. And in a certain way, all the whining puts a certain pressure on BioWare so that they feed us with more details. I'm sure that after Gameinformer comes out - as they have the exclusive on the release of a good ammount of info - BioWare will start delivering more stuff as well. And maybe things won't look so bad after that.

But, you can rest assured, people will still be complaining until the game comes out. Unless the August trailer is extra-bombastic... I hope so...

Good points.  People complained heavily before DAO came out, and even to some degree after, so as much as I think many of the complaints now are unjustified, they don't worry me much.
