Or please direct me to where I can look up what this dialogue wheel means?  I get the basic concept... but will we see the lines before they are said?  Or do you pick "be a jerk" and 'Hawke' says an entire insulting speech to someone else.

I ask this because I'm hearing impaired and loved being able to read all the lines ( closed captioning style) at my *own* pace, so I don't miss out on anything.  (In DAO I put on the companion cc, but it still went too fast for me at times)

Also, why should I like, or not like it?  Some people seem to hate it, but not really say why they do....?

If there is a wiki or something about the MA wheel, I'd be more than happily directed to that for further reading.

Thank you!! Posted Image

We really don't know how they're going to implement it in Dragon Age 2, so don't let anyone make you believe that we do right now.

Just watch some game play of Mass effect (or better yet, play Mass Effect, since those games are awesome). The BioWare team has told us so far that it's similar to that.

Thank you for responding and that's fine... I'd still like to understand what's going on with this wheel haha I haven't played MA or games with a wheel before :)

So I looked at a youtube of the wheel... it looks like it has some of the words but not all? Does the game pause while you select which one?

The options are paraphrased. And the game allows you as much time as needed to make your decision, like in DA:O.

Ohhhh it's the paraphrasing people don't like.  That makes sense... Ok thank you again!  I'm glad you have all the time to think about it, though not being able to read the whole thing is going to suck for me.

You might want to read this thread http://social.biowar...index/3076928/1 or this month's Game Informer for more information on how the dialogue wheel is reported to work. The BioWare example that everyone uses, Mass Effect/Mass Effect 2, was on sale from Steam just recently, and you can download a demo of Mass Effect 2 from Steam and try it for yourself.

there are subtitles in MA as I would well imagine there will be in DA2, the wheel itself in MA gives a synopsis of each possible response that will, when chosen, start that line of dialog (and conversely be displayed in the captions). It really isn't horribly different from the system used in DA:O save for "your" dialog is completely written on the screen before choosing it DA but in MA you must choose an option before all the dialog is displayed.

What you see on the wheel determines what you say, and if you have captions on, it does show you the entire dialogue as spoken.  I suspect the videos you saw don't have captioning on.  I play with captions on, and every word is on the screen.  Sometimes the voices go too fast, as there is no way to pause the NPC dialogue, but you will be able to see the whole dialogue.

Well in truth the paraphrasing makes sense game play wise. It would get rather annoying if you read every line your character is going to say then click on it and have to sit there and wait for your character to say it.

Yea, it does make sense.  I guess I just usually like reading it before it happens so I know what to 'listen' for.  But yes, it does make it a little more interesting (not knowing exactly what they are going to say).

But after it's been selected, yes?  I would imagine there are various laws/guidelines these games have to follow to be 'everyone friendly' but I'm guessing I don't get a 'sneak around' using the captions, I still have to pick the 3/4 word mini option before the full statement is said.

So I select from the wheel a mini statement, and then when it's said there is full captioning of the full statement+vocals...?

The problem with the dialogue wheel is that half the time what you choose and what the character actually says might be very different. That's what people don't like, they want complete control over what the character says and I agree with them

To be fair that is how Mass Effect works.  Shepard is his own man and you kind of get to nudge him in the direction you want.  DA is different and the devs have posted that whiley they are useing the wheel it will not be exactly the same as Mass Effect.  Dose that mean it will be very different or much the same? Only time will tell.

Yes it's paused, but in Mass Effect if a renegade/paragon interrupt action is available, it will only be available when the indicator is flashing, otherwise the opportunity will pass.

Read what the original post asked, he/she implied that he/she was hearing impaired and was wondering how the system worked.  No reason to bring your personal opinion into play.  Besides, "complete control over what the character says"?  Never gonna happen

Thank you again Posted Image

I had also wondered why people didn't like this, I haven't experienced it yet, so I'm not sure.  But so long as I can see/hear it all, that was the main concern!

So, it let's you know if you are going to be interupted?  Guess that's better than nothing!   I hope DA2 just has a nice easy back and forth...

You're not being interrupted. You'd be doing the interrupting. But yes, there's an indicator that flashes to tell you you have the option to interrupt someone. You don't have to use it, but its only up there temporarily.

Yes, exactly.  And no one knows what will be said until the statement is selected.  So we're in the same boat as you.
