Sorry, distracted by TV.
One question for everyone screaming and yelling about how the game comes out in 9 months so nobody can compare these shots to early shots from DAO or ME2 and that these are so totally going to be the exact same graphics as the release...
Where's the time stamp on the screens?
Because you guys are all working under the impression that the shots were taken like... yesterday.
For all we know they were taken in January when there was a year+ left to work.
And yes Estel i do think it's possible the screens were taken off a crappy PC. I think it's more possible the screens were taken running on a low graphics setting to keep the system load down for testing.
As everyone loves to point out, the game is 9 months away (or more) and the official trailer doesn't come out for another month.
These are teasers nothing more. They're not intended to tell us everything just get us talking and build suspense. Which they have done.

Screenshots are an important part of marketing, especially during a reveal where you want to make the best first impression possible. No company in their right mind would cut sub-par screens from a low end test rig for a reveal. This is the best Bioware had to offer at the time the Game Informer magazine went to print.

I'm sure we'll see some improvement before release, but with only 8 months left it seems unlikely the changes will be dramatic.

Aww, but you're forgetting or just don't know about the tactic of releasing alpha build screens.

After these are released and some time has passed, they show Beta screens, which are MUCH better, and after those come screens of what we're actually going to get.

People get hyped just seeing things improve.

I'm guessing you've never worked in marketing or PR. I have, and I can tell you that first impressions matter more than any other. Once you lose someone's interest, it is extremely difficult to recapture it.

Hmm... art style makes it akin to Fallout 3/New Vegas.

We never really had a desert landscape in DA:O, everything was lush and green except in Redcliffe or down in the Deep Roads.

I just hope that the whole area doesn't seem as dreary as the Free Marches seem to be.

You know since you brought up Fallout 3, I would like to introduce someone to everyone.

Dragon Age sat in limbo for about 7 years.
This is months.

Yet there you go assuming these pictures were taking the other day and not many many months in the past.

If it wasn't, then it was silly to put them out, it makes the game look bad.

Exactly.  It isn't that most of the negative posters hate DA2 with a passion.  Most, like me, are simply wondering why they would elect to have these be the first screenshots of the game when it is tentatively scheduled to be released within 9 months.... The "these are just old screens" argument is silly, nobody working in marketing would show the oldest and most unrefined aspects of their product as part of its flagship publicitty

This is exactly how I feel, especially after the press release marketed the "updated" graphics angle.

I like Hawke....not too impressed with the Darkspawn or the Environment, but the game is still in an early build...I'll give it time to improve.

Haha, nice.  I couldn't stand these things in F3, they would come out of nowhere.

But not to be a nerd, but Broodfathers can't exist.  Darkspawn slaughter the males they capture.

Though... t would be an interesting twist if BioWare introduces them in DA2.  **Crosses fingers**

Even game sites are bashing the screens that have been presented:

Partay time. Either we need some animated clips or the black is too chic for supposedly brainless darkspawn, at least the ones on DAO looks the part.

This is without a doubt 43543543 times better than the original.

Am I the only one who think the graphics haven't improved since Origins? Yes the ogre and Hawke's armor are detailed, but everything else is very flat and unpolished. I'm slightly concerned since, from a marketing standpoint, you'd want to put your best, flashiest foot forward. So far I like Origins' design better. Here's to hoping in the next few months we'll see some improvements.

This doesn't look like a sequel to DA:O so much as a reboot.

I mean, where are these darkspawn designs coming from?
It looks like they were all stripped to their loin cloths, injected with enough growth hormone to kill Barry Bonds, then strapped down with pieces of the walls from Orzammar.

No, everyone is crying "final product" and sensible people are yelling "alpha" because that's the only way they might hear us.

Beta? I'm betting Alpha. If it were beta, we'd see a lot more texturing, shadows, etc etc

This is possibly set in the Blight section of the game.

Seems like a downscale then upscale. And don't say it'll look better later, because if that's the case, then they shouldn't be showing off the game right now.

But I've seen this before. If the game is only a year away from release, then you're not going to see major improvements from what you're seeing now. This isn't the case for every game, but I've been through this before, and I'll never defend a game's early screenshots again. Especially if it's a year away. If you're not impressed now, you're not going to be impressed later.

Hm... The screens don't look bad. But the enemy armor in those pics needs some serious work. Especially the pauldrons which are just triangles.
