maaaan.

I'm so bookmarking this thread for when the Beta and Final shots are released. Then I'm gonna haunt the heck out of some folks in the "OMG IT LOOKS AWESOME" threads.

am I too late for an "in before everyone stupidly blames this on consoles"?

It does look bad, but it's not like the 1st game looked amazing on any platform. Give it some more time before flipping out.

Clearly Frank's thighs have calmed everyone down.
So can we talk about Hawke's hair now?
WOO! A short hair style that isn't balding or overtly styled with all that ancient elvish hair gel!
I'm giddy that was one of the 2 things I wanted in DA2.

Sorry, that was like 14 pages ago.

I'm intrigued by the detail on Hawke's armour, is that a glimpse of some chainmail? We sort of had "suggestive" chainmail in Dragon Age Origins but not the full-on thing. I like chainmail :D

People need to STOP talking about the quality. WE KNOW THEY SUCK, BUT ITS WHAT THEY HAVE.

Jesus H. Christ.
(note: that was really just a general message aimed at the masses who keep ****ing about the picture quality, not any particular person)

For the umpteenth time, the game is due out in 9 months, the graphics won't change much by the time of release. You have no idea about game development if you think the looks will make big strides forward (or design will change) so late in development.

UMM just to give you a little head-up and to prove you wrong about changing graphics in a Game. Final Fantasy 14 Launches at the end of this year and I would like to to look for the Alpha/Beta/Release Videos and Screenshots and then come back and tell me that graphics cant change in less then a year.

Even at this stage , everything in those screens looks better then DAO.

Guys, early development pictures. Calm.

i.e these screens are probably a few months old.
i.e the only issue is the lighting and smoothness
i.e calm the hell down

I have to ask. Just exactly WHO confirmed that this is an Alpha Build? Your imagination and inability to admit that these screens look plain terrible?

How do you feel about Ty Carey's view of armour with spikes?

@_@ omg ... there is still much time left until the release in march 2011 (if there won´t be any delay). sure the graphic shouldn´t be that bad that you might get eye-cancer from it ... but it´s not everything about graphic - i prefer a perfect and detailed story, good elaborated NPCs, well made Quests and so on ... often i can´t really understand why ppl always have to quarrel around about something they can´t judge right now. why do ppl intend to make a elefant out of a fly?

there is still 7 months to wait (by the way)

This is bad ass.

The Darkspawn pictures we have now... the Hurlock armor doesn't really look like it has spikes, but more like someone took Triangle Head's head and cut it up and wore it, especially that chest plate.

Who confirmed they weren't?
Speculation is speculation in any direction. Your speculation is no more factual than ours and vice versa.
The only difference is ours is more logical.

I know people are intent on being utterly horrified by everything that's going to be said until release day but this is just getting absurd.

...for a first impression of how a game looks, this is pretty crappy. Fact is the game is slated to come out less than a year and the first impression is darkspawn in Skeletor armor that is angled in a way that reminds me of N64 polygons and is showing off a creepy amount of skin. Now I'm sure some texture work will be done to improve a number of things (such as a ground that looks like someone opened paintbrush, splattered colors and called it a night) but designs and models are pretty doubtful to change.

I also believe I'm the first to say Hawke's armor looks like crap. Aside from the obvious over-spikeyness which seems to be the new style they're shooting for, the quality looks really low. His chainmail looks ripped as if it were fabric and very static, hanging over his arm instead of falling to it, the red fabric is shiny for whatever reason, the fur or whatever around his shoulders is very polygonal, the wrinkles of his shirt/armor look like poor texturing more than a part of the model and the back of his pants looks like it's missing a texture completely and stands out starkly against the blood splatter, belt and calves.

The only thing that looks better is the blood spatter, but that's pretty low on my list of graphical priorities. Seriously guys, you can't even open an area with decent lighting which would have hidden much of these imperfections? That's pretty rough...

...it's logical to assume the pictures are from an alpha build, which is unconfirmed, but illogical to say they're from around nine months before the currently stated release date when they were released about eight months from said release?  Umm...

Looks nice. Once they polish the texture engine, I'm sure that it will be beautiful.

The Hurlocks look like ninjas, though. They need spikier helmets.

oooooooi oi just thought of something on another thread.
Has anybody stopped to consider that maybe these screens don't exist to show us the graphics at all
Instead notice that we appear to have more than 2 bloody camera angles!
!!!

Eh, I'm on the fence about the new pics. I just can't get over how much those hurlocks look like they're wearing armor from the second Conan movie.

Well, it could easily be just the "rotate/zoom camera while game is paused" trick which is already available in the game.

Although now that you mention it the one facing Hawke seems to be closer than it's normally possible, unless it's just camera doing the usual collision thing with a character/obstacle behind it.

The PC version of DAO was capable of those angles.  Also promotional shots and the like often show camera angles which are otherwise impossible to get.
