You've said that twice but I don't think it means what you think it means. If they weren't rendered there wouldn't be anything on the screen...

Notice how not a single person from Bioware posted something in reply to all this. Perhaps they know they'll be eaten alive if they admit that this IS how DA2 is going to look like?

If we all play nice and quit thrashing them and each other, maybe we'll get a response.

I still think that:

a) The images are not final build

B) They represent an improvement in design.

I super promise not to attack your opinions in any way, but could you please elaborate on B)?

Specifically, how is this an improvement in design?

dunno what BW is trying to do but maybe they just want to put all the fans of DA:O off

so the can scrap the game all together

and start a new franchise to screw up

thanx BW for messing up a great game :(

if this is your idea of better visuals i want the DA:O style back!!!:(

and the news about DA2 Keeps getting worse all the time:(

Not to go off topic with this again, but if it's any consolation, those of us who loved everything about ME1 felt the same leading up to (and especially after the release of) ME2.  Most of us got over our loss, and learned to enjoy ME2 for what it was.

Granted, ME2 didn't look like poo though, so I could be wrong.

Actually, it's about 1 a.m. in their time zone right now, I believe.  Maybe they're....sleeping?

I just HATE the look of the darkspawn!!!! What are they (BioWare, not the hurlocks) thinking?!! Whatever warranted this total overhaul of the look of the darkspawn?! The hurlocks look like something out of Grim Fandango, wich is a great game, but doesn't have anything at all to do with DA.

I'll admit that Hawke looks cool, and the armor is fine too, but it simply doesn't look like Dragon Age to me. This looks more like some cartoon for kids. DAO had armor that was based on real life armor suits, but this...?

I guess I'll just have to wait and see more of the armors and enemies, but so far, I don't like it one bit. Posted Image

Seriously, none of them post on the ME boards outside of Gamble occasionally because this is looking pretty much like the ME boards

Well, the ground texture appears to have no normal map, but considering it's made mostly of sand maybe that was intentional ?
But there is nothing wrong with the hurlock's textures really... the armor mesh is, okay, I didn't see the breastplate was made of spikes too, that's downright ridiculous. But the texture matches perfectly, it's a crude dark metal plate, what did you want to see on the texture ? Pretty engravings with shinyness effects ?

Also, the blood on the ground and on the character in second screenshot look horrible, blood effects in DAO looked much better [/sarcasm]

Those who work in Bioware never sleep, they're tirelessly working day after day without a break. All to deliver "Super-Hot" graphics and cinematic experience.

Or perhaps Priestly is enjoying some delicious cupcakes while everyone goes insane. That's what he does you know. He's like Cthulhu. He feeds off our of delicate sanity.

And I agree with slimgrin. I think it's an improvement in design too. Now that things have calmed down a bit I'll ellaborate.
DA:O looked great and all but it also kinda looked like a dozen other games in the genre. This looks like it's coming into its own style. Some people hate that idea. Some don't. I don't.
Not only that but the darkspawn look more lore-friendly than in origins. They're born of the races of Thedas that have been corrupted and turned into some unholy creature. I never understood why they were purple and green.
As for the Elder-God geometry of the armor (Priestly....), that feels like it has a place too. Yeah, the angles can be cleaned up, but the overall style looks unnatural. It looks painful and otherworldly and wrong. It looks like I imagined the Black City would look.
It reminds me of Penance from marvel comics. (Look him up as I don't want to ramble on endlessly about him. The male Penance, not the female one.) Which I dig. Again, that's my take on it.

i hope you're not trying to tell me that this is a good thing what BW seems to be  doing with DA2??
ME2 doesn't look anything  as DA2 seems to be going
so how is this an improvement??:(:(:(

It's a Qunari Greatsword. Looks more or less exactly like the one in DAO...

Judging by the weapons sizes used in Origins, I'd say that's more along the line of a dagger. :P

The look is somewhat different, but nothing about it jumps out as better to me. The dusty wasteland reminds me of Conan a little.

The funny thing is, the weapons in the DA2 screenshots are still oversized, though less than in DAO :P

I wasn't sure what type it was exactly.

At the very first glance, the name Gerald Brom immediately overtook my mind. If they haven't hired him to redesign the darkspawn, then they could have fooled me.

Keep in mind that these are the first screens we're actually seeing. Looking back at DAO's first screens and the end results leave me optimistic for how the game will eventually look upon release.

I don't think it's very clever to compare DAO and DA2 in this way, since Origins was in development for like five years, while it's somewhere around seven MONTHS left until DA2 releases (provided they don't delay it).
So I'd say don't get your hopes up too much about the graphics changin all that much before release, IMHO.

Macho guy fighting darkspawn. Ok. Now waiting to see what the female model looks like (both armour as well as 'assets').

Or they are turning this into Conan the Barbarian

Well. Graphics look better. Ogres now make you want to kill them rather than hug them (they were kind of cute in Origins). I am happy to see the blood got "fixed" with a more, much more, cooler one. The blood seems that it will not embrace the body of the hitter (In origins, you even got dirty on your back... I understand if someone backstabs you, but if you kill??).

Ultimately, I'm afraid I won't like the arid climate there. In fact, I never liked deserts for some reason...
