Blah blah blah, note sure if they are artist impressions or actual game footage. If artist impressions, then that will change, eventually. If game play footage, looks cartoonish, so level of detail will be different. I can see veins in his arms now, and this is only first look so far. I notice weapons have taken on a more dynamic approach, very conan like not LOTR type. As for the troll, I noticed that they have copied LOTR skin, same pigmintation. If they heading for realism in graphics, then they should begin to look at weapon types as well.

Those screenshots look terrible, but I'm not that worried. Bioware's PR department has a track record for being a bit rubbish - I wouldn't be surprised if they released those two pictures by mistake.

I'll give them this: the new Ogres actually look like twisted qunari now, instead of big naked gorillas...

Here's an enlarged version the first screenshot with some adjusted image settings to make it look less bland. The human character look way better than anything in DAO. The environment textures still look dreadful though (perhaps even worse than in the original game). Let's hope they'll improve as we're getting closer to release.

If you're into ridiculously oversized beefcakes, perhaps.

I already dread playing a male mage.

Yes, because male humans in DAO absolutely werent muscular at all...:innocent:

And for all we know, DA2 may or may not allow multiple body types for humans. Hell that may even be one of the reasons why we can't play other races, because they could offer greater character customization but could only afford to do it properly for one race.

I like the design for the human. The lighting seems weird, but I'm sure that will improve with time.

At this point the graphics look like a horribly failed attempt to create a photorealistic world and characters. That ogre looks depressed rather than terrifying and the darkspawn look equally bad. Hopefully that will change for the better before the game gets close to being released.

Whilst I like the Darkspawn's armour and how the ogre looks, I really dislike the Hurlocks. They looked like fleshy skeletons in DA:O, and now they just look like humans with a skin condition.

I like Hawke though. Is that a scar on his face? If so, they better let custom characters have them too. One thing that was sorely lacking in DA:O was scars.

Muscular? Certainly. Stereoid abusers? Not quite.

Highly unlikely but one can always hope. I'd be willing to trade races for proper body customization.

So, Dragon Age 2 will be stylized like World of Warcraft... the over-sized armors of Origins weren't exactly realistic, but they were at least a proper armor. What are those things the characters are wearing now; spiky armor that's more likely to hurt the wearer, and the ridiculous darkspawn blades? Male battle bikini?!... Ugh, it looks like some Japanese RPG now. And I hate their art style, the main reason I stay away from JRPGs.

Plus, the terrain looks incredibly bland. It may be work in progress, and I could be wrong, but if it isn't, it's a huge step back..

Artistic styles are for MMOs so that they don't look outdated in 5 years time but for a 1 year game Dragon Age 2 should have kept it the way it was, updated it slightly but not a complete overhaul.

Some more detail would have solved everything that was wrong with Dragon Age: Origins.

Unfortunately, BioWare decided to backpeddle and remove detail. It boggles the mind.

With some tweaking and a bit of polish the graphics/style from DA: Origins would of been absolutely fine, leaving Bioware with more time to work on other things in the game.

I like that direction. The darkspawn look more like twisted and torn versions of their origin races now - was really hard to recognize and thus feel the horror you would have at that revelation as an inhabitant of Thedas. Now those Cenobite-style things and the more Qunari ogre, those are awful. In a good way.

That said, the graphics are really, really unpolished. Not unexpected, there is more than eight months of time left.

I think the screens look terrible. Really really disappointing.

I hope the lighting was turned off or something.

Maybe EA have plans to port the game onto the Nintendo 3DS when it comes out next year? With the exception of the resolution, the quality of those screen shots look about on par with the demos that have been shown for the system so far.

The dark spawn look horrible. Seriously. In DAO, the darkspawn actually looked like... darkspawn and pretty intimidating as well....

Bioware released these screens way to early, people are getting hopes down because they don't understand that these are just placeholder screens. It's very obvious that the models will not look like that when the game comes out.
