Remember people these are pre alpha. These graphics will update significantly between now and launch.

If they are the first stage graphics then it is looking good :)

Those pics also don't appear to have shading or dynamic lighting enabled, and are at a fairly low resolution (or at least lower than I run DAO at) take them as a concept piece peeps.

They don't look that impressive tbh.

I like the look of the Hurlocks, if that's what those are. Their faces seem more human and intelligent, thus, deadly.

Hawke spends a lot of time in the gym.

Why would they release alpha build graphics with no lighting and lo-resolution? I sure hope this isn't the final product.

Its an alpha build. They will look much better by the time of release, I am sure.

They are laggin behind with the "news" it seems :P Also is it just me or do the graphics for those hurlocks look much worse than DA:O. I mean there doesn't seem to be any detail on them.

They look more like walking corpses than darkspawn to me

i dont think the npc's are fully constructed yet, the screen shots dont look complete.

i hope that they improve the detail in the surroundings, i.e. the floors and shadows

Of course. But, still, BioWare could have chosen some other place. That scenery looks...bland.

Yeah but from a marketing standpoint...i don't think that's such a good idea.  Why show something that is unfinished and ugly when you're trying to attract people

Those picks do pique my interest in seeing the game in motion. Of course the game was on my "must buy" list the moment it came out.

Id say that they already are an improvment over origins..soo I kinda disagree

Well I think the new look is to help show that the darkspawn are curropted versions of the current races. At least that is what I think. That is why the Hurlocks look more human in the new style. As far as how the graphics look from a technical standpoint, the up close image is cool but the hurlocks in the other one are meh. This could simply be that they are not the focus or because it is still in development. Hopefully they will look better in the game itself.

I'm starting to wonder how successful DA would have been if Bioware had invested as much for its presentation as they have for Mass Effect 2. It almost seems as if they're treating DA like a stepchild and using a ****ty custom-built graphics engine while most of their resources are spent for the Mass Effect franchise.

While I'm definitely looking forward to DA2, I'll admit I'm also hoping these are just "alpha" graphics and not final. Right now it's a pretty minimal improvement over the existing gx.

And I agree that the darkspawn look oddly undead-y (and a bit S&M) now. It'd be nice if they can work in some dynamic lighting into the game too...

Hmm yeah I suppose.  I guess I was just expecting something at least on par or better with Mass Effect 2 since those graphics really wowed me.

The model of Hawk looks good.  Probably would look really good with lighting.  The darkspawn, ogre, ground and sky all look very BLEH

lol after all they were just the images we've been looking at for the past couple of days from Play.com. But is that a tattoo I see on Hawke's arm?? does that mean we can put body tats on him I wonder.

Edit: almost missed the scar on his face, so will we be able to put scars on our Hawke?? or will they just appear on him as the game goes on ah la Fable

His tatoo is some kinda eye I believe.
I think that because someone made a thread with some of the first Art.
There is some women in black armor who carries a staff with the same emblem.
