They released them to demonstrate the shift in visual style. Placeholders or not, the shift has disappointed.

The game is also supposed to be out in less than a year. I would't get my hopes up for any dramatic changes as BioWare is on a very tight schedule.

...looks like that falls on the art department. The engine is doing everything it's supposed to.

It's going to start out with Hawke escaping the blight not fighting it. Yes he will most likely still encounter Darkspawn along the way but oh well. I can get used to the art style just fine.

Looking good? This looks like 2004. Not a good choice to show "improved graphics", not at all: no lighting, low poly and bad texturework. I hope these are just pre-alpha mock-ups.

As far as art style it's very different to say the least. These are not final builds just low res pictures to show the new art style. Sorry for posting again

I hope that Darkspawns would apppear only at the beginning.  I don't hate epic stories, but those in Da:0 was so plain. I missed a lot game like a BG2 so it was still big fun, but now i expect much more,  such engaging story like this in Torment.

If Hawke goes underground he'll still encounter them because in DA:O it was stated that when the Darkspawn are not invading Thedas they live underground and contantly do battle with Dwarfs. So I'd expect to see them just not as often.

Wow, you can count the polygons on two hands and those textures are what? 64x64 pixels?



I really hope this is just some sort of mock up, because those screenshots look something my old Voodoo 3 would render 10 years ago.



If this is the best they have to show, I'm not impressed at all :(

The fact that the Darkspawn actually look way worse than they did in DA:O is almost as depressing to me as the fact that they're actually bringing them back for the sequel.

I quite like the clean cut style. Interesting to see if the animations break or make it.



Oh, any chance we can have idle animations? People standing around stiffly looks really odd.

I have no idea why they even bothered releasing these. It's pre-alpha I'm sure, so nothing to worry about...but no lighting, no shadows, low-res textures, awful polygon count, no AA, no AF...they just look absolutely awful. It looks like a 5-year old game at best.

I'm sure the graphics will look fine when finished. Hopefully the new art style doesn't suck though. Cartooney games looks stupid.

I do hope for a significant improvement, but I am skeptical. If this is what Bioware's running with at the moment, then I don't see anything much better than Origins, and I don't see a huge potential for improvement by march next year. If this is a very old screenshot, then why did Bioware use it?

I think if there was a little mist added to the scene, it would lift the image a bit, making it look a bit more real.

Ah i dont know what to think.
I'd say this tho, the screenshots didnt do anything for me. Infact i think they look rubbish.

Still early in design im guessing. So ill hold my tongue in place and zip my lips!. :P
