Most games on consoles have much better graphics than DAO (even if you take the PC version - graphics are bad). I've already suggested that those screens are from PSP version.

True, but think about: what is easier - developing a whole new engine that actually enhances the graphics of the game, or plopping down some pointy meshes (easy on the hardware) and low detail cartoony textures (easy on the hardware) so that the current engine simply runs better?

And don't be ridiculous, as bad as these graphics are a PSP couldn't pump them out. It would be all pixelated and aliased and even lower resolution.

The exact same thing happened from ME1 to ME2.

Why do they keep doing this??  Regardless of the huge success of the first game, the second is toned down and sanitized.  What the ****, chuck?

Are you joking? Mass Effect 2 was much darker than Mass Effect 1, and not just because everyone suddenly learned how to start saying "f*ck" all of a sudden. There are many darker themes that are barely touched in the first one: rape, betrayal, gore, slavery and torture are just a couple I can think of. Jack is basically a walking characterisation of every dark theme that Mass Effect 2 introduced to its universe, and though it's easier to write her off as the cliche "badass chick with a grudge" character, when you actually talk to her and hear about the mordbidly disturbing things that have happened to her throughout her life it's very clear why this character is the way she is. That may work as a good analogy for the entire game itself, in fact.

The only thing I can imagine you'd be talking about are  the sex scenes, which gives a good indication as to where your priorities lie in a game. And that's fair enough, but don't criticise the entire thing for being "sanitised and toned down" just because it didn't show the three seconds bare ass that ME1 did.

More likely, I think you - just like a lot of people on these boards - are just taking every opportunity you can to bash a game that took away a few precious RPG elements and incorporated something more user-friendly and (and this is my opinion, and I respect that yours may differ) is ultimately more enjoyable, and you'll spout any mistruth about the game in order to perpetuate this mind-boggling hatred.

EDIT: More to the topic, I don't think it looks any more cartoony than DA:O did. I don't understand people talking things about a new "style" - it looks much the same to me, except that the ogre is pulling a sadface and the darkspawn have lighter skin and spikier armor.

If DA2 is censored and released as Teen then I probably won't buy it. That's about the one thing that would really deter me from it.

Now that's just stupid. Game's rated 18+ anyway. At this age, chances are you already had sex. And, I dare say, having it on a regular basis. Just taking myself and people I know as examples. No offense if somebody prefers otherwise, I know there are reasons for that.

Origins censorship was bad enough already. Why is she sitting at him with her underwear still on? Are they some kind of fetishists? That was my first though BTW - in Ferelden people have some strange underwear fetish, which makes in their minds a bra look more sexually attractive than naked breast, LOL)))

Honestly, if this game is rated teen or something like that, then I wont buy it no matter how good or bad the game is.. I'm an adult and don't buy games for kids

Kinthalis ThornBlade, true it's easier to use an old engine and simply reduce amount of detail than optimize said engine. I believe however that Bioware are better than that. They improved graphics in Mass Effect 2 after all. Also, what's the deal with consoles? DAO engine is not the best optimized on PC as well. And noone would release a game which require a quad-core and 4 GB of RAM minimum.

And about PSP version - those are screens meant for advertising. Dante's Inferno for PSP looked just as good at screens. In game it was very low-res of course, but that's in-game.

Games4ever, to be completely honest a lot of bad, low-quality 18+ rated games are aimed for teenagers, but in case of this game I agree - 18+ rating is mandatory. One just can't tell a compelling story in such dark fantasy setting while aiming at 16+ or lower rating.

Censorship is not controlled by the USA's government. It is left up to the corporations if they want to appeal to a larger mass. We have a rating system that is all. Although I can't say the same for Europe or Asia, as you would rather ban the game from even entering the country if they are too violent.

Siradix, I'm Russian. We don't ban games at all. Never. And let me tell you: we currently have little to no censorship in the country. Modern Warfare thing was Activision initiative. Partly because many russian players were pissed off about this "no russian" mission (a lot of bull**** and lies about us in MW2's story didn't help either), myself included. I'm so glad ****ers from Infinity Ward were sacked and didn't got any royalties. Good riddance.

Eclipse engine must be total garbage.. or very good 2004 tech. I'm gonna go with very good 2004 tech that don't meet the requirements of the modern games.



Dragon Age looked absolutely horrible for a late 2009 game and looks like Dragon Age 2 will be almost as bad. I like the redesign bit more (as it's almost impossible for the AAA developer to make it look worse then DA ) but it's definately not 2011 game quality. Crysis was released november 2007 and because are consoles holding graphics back, it's still the limit what we can expect for all the new games untill 2015 or whenever Sony or Microsoft feel like releasing new console generation.



So question is - Why don't all games look as good as Crysis? Art direction wasn't even that good in Crysis, actually it was rather boring and predictable. DeusEx 3 look absolutely great in aplha build videos. Rockstar managed to whip their Rage engine to new heights with Red Dead Redemption. Uncharted 2 was big improvement over original game. Assassins Creed was visually great (with huge crowds no less) and they have continued to improve by each game.

Well done America, guns are great, but representations sex, even consensual sex between adults is borderline illegal.



The ESRB should really do something about it, and start using a rating system that wasn't put together by some conservative nut-jobs.



But they're too weak, and no politician is ever going to touch it. It's not exactly a populist subject, is it.

haha I always wanted to know what russians are thinking about story of MW2

Its same here in Slovakia, no censorship at all. We can see all the nipples, blood and swear words we want.
Not even Hostel was threated with bans

Its just Germany that bans everything

No offense, but that does sound immature. I'm an adult too (nearly 30) and i do buy games for kids. Such as the Ratchet and Clank games for PS3, enjoyable gameplay and excellent humour. Some naivety does good every once in a while.

That said, i haven't seen or read any evidence that DA2 would have lowered rating. It would be pretty stupid for the sequel of a game advertised for dark fantasy, sex and violence
