I'm starting to wonder how successful DA would have been if Bioware had invested as much for its presentation as they have for Mass Effect 2. It almost seems as if they're treating DA like a stepchild and using a ****ty custom-built graphics engine while most of their resources are spent for the Mass Effect franchise.
If you want mass effect gameplay, you could easily get mass effect graphics. However if you want Dragon age gameplay and loads of enemies on screen etc, you cant. Not yet

They ruined the Mass Effect series. Mass Effect 2 was a good action adventure, not as good as Jade Empire but similar in combat and character development systems, but it sucks as an RPG -- whereas the original Mass Effect was awesome.
Bioware: Please don't ruin Dragon Age! Please!

Its an alpha build. They will look much better by the time of release, I am sure.
Looks like they'd have to significantly increase the resolution in order for it to look nearly as good as DA:O did on PC. I mean...that's some pretty undetailed alpha graphics if those are from the PC build. Hence, my hope those are console alpha, not PC alpha.

And I'm sure the graphics will be improved... these are awful and obviously missing some simple graphical features like shadows and dynamic lighting.
But, is it just me, or is his hair moving with his motion? That would be a very neat addition.

"These exclusive hi-res screens of Dragon Age II showcase the new artistic direction for the game, depicting the new designs for darkspawn Hurlocks and Ogres. The team at BioWare is also aware that many gamers weren't satisfied with the graphical quality in Origins; Dragon Age II not only looks better, but sports a new artistic direction that gives the world of Thedas a more distinct visual identity."

I personally don't think I like it very much... I mean, Darkspawn are supposed to be corrupt, practically dead things. These don't look very corrupt OR dead. I mean, its written even in the books, that their skin is practically dead and blackened.

That first shot seems to suggest DA2 still have finishing moves.
I hope we can turn those off.

Well, if that's really the case then it'd make the comments they make how things are much improved regarding the visuals... rather premature. I mean, i'd expect they have some actual visuals to judge whether things much improve or not.relhart wrote...

Why would they release alpha build graphics with no lighting and lo-resolution? I sure hope this isn't the final product.
Becuase that' might be all they have atm?

Also, Hawke's armor doesn't make sense to me... I mean, it looks great. But for a two handed greatsword, and being right-handed, wouldn't you want your left arm (which is generally forward, especially in this case) armored more than you'd want your right arm armored? It would make sense for sword and shield, but other than that...
No. You'd want both arms equally armored, as hands and arms are the main targets in medieval swordfighting. And you have the right hand in front of the left, unless you are lefthanded.
This is, however, fantasy, and rest assured there's nothing realistic about the swordplay in DA:O, and probably not in DA2 either, and who cares?

On the other hand, they may still be playing with the art style (though it is kind of late for that) and thus haven't bothered investing much graphical detail yet. But if this is what they're 100% going for, this is terrible news. I've seen better looking textures on the PS2.
And first screenshots are usually very indicative of the final product, so don't get your hopes up. Also, let's not forget that Bioware is seems to be cramming this game's development into a short period of time. Around less than 2 years, I think.

1. Just how close/far are these graphics from the final ones.
2. What platform these screenshots are on.

Yeah, the art style in the concept art is fine but then you see how its being translated into the screens here and... it really doesn't seem any better than what we had in Origins. From the PC side of things, these screens really don't look very high res and the textures are still muddy, the environments and sky appears very meh.
Really still seems to have the same problems graphically that Origins had. Lets just hope this is very much a work in progress...

They look exactly like Architect's sidekicks. Looks like he finally taught them some hygiene though. Other than that, they look exactly like Disciples.MKDAWUSS wrote...
