I would not consider those screenshots to be upgrades to the original game. I would consider them downgrades in fact.

Not saying that DA 2 will suck becaue of that, but it makes me wonder when we're going to see this visual upgrade BioWare is bragging about.

Probably August when the trailer comes out.
We'll probably get a bit more chaos-bait before then but they'll probably hold out on the good stuff until august.

This.

I sure hope the August trailer is gameplay. As much as I love the BioWare/Blur CGI trailers, I have a feeling thats what the August trailer will be, instead of gameplay footage...

I think they will save any CGI trailers for a time closer to release.

Sacred Ashes was out a month before release and the one in the Deep Roads was eye candy for E3.

But if I'm not mistaken the 8/17/10 trailer is right about Gamescom time, no? Just seems like with the TOR Blur trailer at E3 they really like those as marketing tools to catch people's attention.

They're lovely to look at but with DA2 at least, I think most of us more "hardocore" fans and forum goers want to see gameplay to see how the supposed changes being made actually manifest themselves in the game.

And if the game isn't up to par graphically yet, I don't think at this stage they'll rush out gameplay footage if its not ready. But who knows, right?

If the upcoming trailer features crappy, metal music again, at least bioware can claim consistency with the visuals...

Someone in another forum mentioned these look like Brutal Legend and DA had a fugly kid.

The new look sure is reminding me of a certain low-system-spec BioWare MMO.

And the main menu scene of Origins.

Of course... it could also be a teaser trailer featuring all of 5 second of anything.

Now I sort of feel bad for poor Malcolm.

One minute he's the cat's pajamas and everyone's saying he looks so awesome, the next minute they forget he ever starred in those trailers for Origins.:crying:

at least they did adds with different people for the different races.
with origins you knew he was a stand in because of all the origins.
hawkes being treated as very important as is

Did they? Because I don't recall a Sacred Ashes or 30StM ad that had an elf leading the charge up the mountain or a dwarf or even a woman. If they exist then do please direct me to them because i'd love to watch them!

Sorry magazine adds, i didnt mean trailers

I'm not so much concerned about the level of detail, since it's Alpha / Pre-Alpha stage. What concerns me is the new direction the visual style seems to go. Armour and weapons were already oversized in DA, now they seem to make them even bigger. But the worst thing is the edgy look of the new armour and weapons and the general comic-look. They seem to move away from a "realistic" setting, which imo is a bad idea for athmosphere.

Well at least I have some hope there since Blizzard did very similar for Diablo III and changed the art style after heavy mauling from the community. Maybe BioWare will listen to its fans, too.

A good sign is that they are giving details and screenshots so early. Maybe their intention is to get feedback so they have a chance to adjust the visual style and some gameplay aspects to the taste of their fans.

Who knows. On the one hand, I am worried about DA2, but on the other hand, I still trust in BioWare to create the best RPGs in the world.

I'm serious BioWare, if the art style is that pronounced everywhere in the game I won't buy it, no matter how good the story is, it will break the immersion and annoy me every single time I look at the screen. I can play old games that strived for realism because they tried however I can't play stylized games, I won't be playing SWTOR either (I know it's to cater to weaker computers). Please change it, or at least make it a little less pronounced.

When I first saw the Sacred Ashes Trailer then I was sold.

when I'd play the game it didn't look half as good as it did in the trailer, so how can we trust that the trailer they soon show will really look like this?

it's an honest question

I've often wondered this, but how do people who are always whinging about immersion get on with convenient gameplay mechanics such as mini-maps and hot bars covering the screen? It must be a real **** to always have them there reminding you that you are just playing a computer game?

Hmm...well the details on the characters (robes, armor...) really do look better. Imo those new screens improve my overall impression a little.

It looks alright.

Enviroment textures still look horrible, though (small wonder too -it's the same scene). Also no lightning to speak of.

...but at least it's not as horrible as I first though it was.

Edit: Interesting tidbit from the short german article: Apparently combat will be "sped up". It mentions Mike Laidlaw saying "Watching an NPC given an attack order by the player, slowly walking to the target and than swinging his sword, like in DA:O, is unaccaptable" (rephrased of course).

Call me blind, but i somehow like the direction they are going into. Though in my opinion it isn't as "Dark Fantasy" stylish as I initially hoped for, but it's all good.

good lord, this looks cheap as hell. Instead of a decent groundtexture and foiliage we get Mortal-Combat style bloodsplatters all over the place. Atrocious. Is this really supposed to be a "graphical improvement"? You gotta be kidding me.

"You gotta be kidding me"

The game was announced a week ago, it's still in developement - the graphics aren't perfect when a game is barely on its feet, they'll get better.

Jesus christ people stop reacting like bioware personally dropped a bomb on your nads.

Damn, I like it people. Its stark and visceral. The flames are nicely done, the blood splatters are cool, and the character design looks better to me.

I will say the lighting seems a little weird and there is a lack of ground textures. But this stuff looks more promising than the first two screen shots.

Making games is a form of art, I wonder if Bioware are proud of these screensshots
