Load up origins and crank your graphics level down to minimum.
Does it still look as good?
No.
Now tell me where anything says what graphics level the computer was running at when these were taken.
anything at all...
People need to STOP talking about the quality. WE KNOW THEY SUCK, BUT ITS WHAT THEY HAVE.

IMO, if the game does currently look like this, they should have waited until they got the game to a respectable graphics level to release the first screenshots. To a lot of people, this will be the first they see of the game. That's not good.

Serously though, Crysis didn't look that great in Alpha, could be very misleading.

It's like they use up all their budget for Mass Effect and the leftovers go to Dragon Age.
If anything, most of Bioware's time is probably going into making Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Different teams for each, I'm sure.
Developers can work on multiple projects at the same time.

Google it when you have the time.
IIRC, the game was first shown off in 2004 when it was still running on the NWN2 engine. DA2 comes out next year.

Right- especially after Zeschuk and crew were boasting about how much work they were putting in to pump up the engine and get it looking "super hot."
The only graphical difference between the screens and Origins is really the art style- from a technical perspective they just are not that impressive. Origins on high on a PC looks better than these and considering they're still using the same engine, I'd have thought things would look a bit better, especially the lighting.
Now if they just mentioned that these were WIPs and not indicitive of the final product, these wouldn't be as big of a deal.

This has been a public service announcement.
These are not the final shots.
It doesn't matter. This is a horrible first impression and it was dumb to release these as the first reveal. Even Two Worlds II looks better.
Am I the only one that remembers the terrible first shots of ME2?
early ME2 fottage.
These shots shown do not mean anything, you have no proof that will be the final product.

Just about every single developer does this. People beg and beg and beg for pictures, so they give some to them. BUT UH OH! THEY AREN'T GOOD ENOUGH QUALITY! Then everybody proceeds to cry and cry and cry, and the developer says "hey, you wanted them, and it's what we have."epoch_ wrote...

They did the same thing for the Sims 2/3. I was talking with people who were complaining about bad pictures when they released some early screens.
So many people do this, and people just do not seem to understand that they are alpha pictures. Its like they expect the entire game to have the full montey of the latest graphical effects of the moment to be running on high on a quantum computer with a $17000 video card rendering the game in its complete, finished form, when they have JUST begun to have enough finished to start trickling information out.
It makes no sense, and it's annoying.

For the umpteenth time, the game is due out in 9 months, the graphics won't change much by the time of release. You have no idea about game development if you think the looks will make big strides forward (or design will change) so late in development.sage_viper wrote...

This is very blurry low quility off screen footage. That's most probably the reason it doesn't look good. These are sharp images.

The game comes out in 8 months, which includes the months spent bug-testing, manufacturing, packaging and shipping the game to stores.
I hope to god that at this point they have better tech than this.

When the Sims 3 was about 6-7 months away from release, they started posting screenshots, and they looked terrible. Of course there was vast improvement from those screenshots to the finished product.
Besides that, they obviously don't have very many graphical features on. No lighting or anything like that.
And are you really so naive as to think that they would release a sequel that looks worse than its predecessor? Honestly?

You just failed.
ME2 at GDC 2009.
ME2 at E3 2009
ME2 finish product, 2010
You do not know what your talking about.

I don't care if they're not better or not. IMO, they could have used exactly the same engine and graphics quality, so long as the gameplay was fun, the story was engaging.

That was alpha footage shown at GDC. Compare it to the finish product. ME2 looks nothing like it, it is 10x better. These shots are alpha shots.
