The problem I see with this is that it would affect every other interaction you have - if you a Darkspawn in your party, that will *always* be a big deal. I don't really want Hawke's struggle to be "equal rights for Darkspawn."
Cool. As long as that can work out, I am supportive. The Awakened Darkspawn are interesting.

...and taint every person he comes across. Also, I still can't see why a Darkspawn would join the Wardens.langelog wrote...

Problem is Hawke isnt a Warden as far as I know. But yeah I dont really like this idea as the idea is too overused in sequels nowdays, Master Chief teams up with the elites, Jack Sparrow with Barbosa, Shepard with the Geth ect, it just isnt a surprise twist anymore but a cheap plot device. However with that being said I can see it happening, I hope it doesnt but it is possible.

He's not joining the Warden's, he's joining Hawke, who I'm pretty sure has no affiliation with the Grey Wardens.Lord Gremlin wrote...

Anyhow, for those of you that mentioned the darkspawn disease as a reason from preventing prolonged contact with darkspawn: you don't think your party members were at risk of contracting it just by spilling darkspawn blood and guts in close combat?
(remember, not all melee fighters in Origins were Wardens).

When people wonder why writers use ideas in their stories that others consider cliche, it's because they're damn good ideas._-Greywolf-_ wrote...

This reaction is one of many that were anticipated, if you believe the darkspawn are pure evil, then you can always kill him like you could Zevran, or not recruit him like many others.
...and thereby deny yourself content. This is the reason I can never bring myself to sell Legion, despite the fact that I don't like Geth and would rather have them remain as antagonists that I can blow away without guilt.

Pffft,I dont care if Im "denying myself content" I dont want anything to do with this idea of a darkspawn being a companion. I'll kill it the first chance I get.

This is one of the reasons I actually enjoyed Darkspawn Chronicles. I had hoped that when it said we would play a different story in which the Warden died, that it would be longer than the Battle of Denerim.Arttis wrote...
Rather play a full story as a darkspawn.

darkspawn companion.... 'tis a stupid idea
I agree. Unless somehow the darkspawn somehow retained its humanity, this just wouldn't work.

Good point, that seems to be the only ammo other than the fact he is an "evil" being, to deny a darkspawn companion to join team Hawke. The likleyhood of Hawke falling to darkspawn corruption is very slim, and as I said before, it would be cool if the awakened darkspawn had a personal quest in which you seek out the Architect for help or search for any of his research that may prove useful in countering the spread of the taint. On this note, not all darkspawn are evil, some can be masked heros, like the messenger.Celticon wrote...
My explanation for a possible Darkspawn ally: remnant forces that have decided to band up under their remaining sentient leaders and work as mercenaries or slavers. Their services are available for a fee or quest favor, while the rest of the darkspawn you encounter have gone feral or are hostile under some other leadership.
Anyhow, for those of you that mentioned the darkspawn disease as a reason from preventing prolonged contact with darkspawn: you don't think your party members were at risk of contracting it just by spilling darkspawn blood and guts in close combat?

Isn't that just using continuity to outweigh game lore?

Yes, in the Awakening expansion, when Amaranthine is attacked the Architect sends a messenger, if he is spared and freed, he travels the land as a masked hero.joriandrake wrote...
wasn't there some heroic darkspawn in one of the expansions who traveled across the world saving people?
