wasn't there some heroic darkspawn in one of the expansions who traveled across the world saving people?

If the Warden chooses to let the messenger go after the battle in the City of Amaranthine, the city soon buzzes with stories of a cloaked but lisping figure who helps travelers in danger. At the same time, reports of isolated cases of the darkspawn disease emerge, but no one connects the two.

These guys had some remarkably bad voice-acting.  What was supposed to sound grim and cool came out as corny and forced.  If we have to have a Darkspawn companion, I certainly hope it's the strong, silent type.

I should keep an open mind, but Awakening kind of ruined talking Darkspawn for me.

Darkspawn are a "stab/kill" only thing. Like the Architech, who coincidentally was responsible for the whole last blight deal, and whose "solution" to the problem is to just turn everything into a darkspawn. Yeah, awesome idea there. Not to mention that the whole thing doesn't make sense - he'd need to basically raise humans as cows to create Warden's to have Warden blood to awakening darkspawn.

... Bleh. Awakening plot talk makes my brain melt. But seriously, darkspawn are only for killing. If they talk, that just means they need killing faster.

I'm surprised at all the people who object to this, everybody loved Legion as a squadmate in ME2, would a darkspawn be so bad? Other than the two main reasons I'm reading as to why a darkspawn ally is a bad idea, I really don't see why it would be such a terrible thing, it couldn't possibly ruin the game, and for those who are intrigued by the awakened darkspawn this is a dream come true. I always found the Geth cool, and when I was given the chance to fight along side one I was thrilled. Bioware's idea for Legion a stupid idea, no. The idea for an awakened darkspawn companion stupid, absolutley not.

Legion presented a plausible turn for the geth: not all were working with Sovereign, not all cared about organic life, and those geth were planning to enslave the rest of the geth to eradicate organic life. The other geth were perfectly happy to leave organics well enough alone and seemed pretty onboard with the whole, kick the reapers six ways from Sunday.

The darkspawn aren't like the geth. They're more like husks or the other kinds of abominations built by the reapers. They can only be born through an monstrous abomination like the brood mother, spread disease everywhere they go, their blood is poison for all living things... and they can spark an apocalypse if within 50 feet of an old god.

Darkspawn aren't very tolerated because they're crimes against existence, and awakened darkspawn are a degree of abomination on top of that, because of the anti-Joining ritual that takes place. Nope, I don't buy DA:A's attempt to give us intelligent darkspawn at all. They're all clearly abominations and need to be exterminated.

I dislike the cliche as well, but if they can do it right, then why the hell not? They did a fine enough job with Legion, turning a member of a race full of souless killing machines that were hell bent on ending us in ME1 into someone we could possibly empathise with.

And besides, it's not like any past and present BioWare companions haven't joined us on any kind of cliche, generic, or standard fantasy pretenses anyway.

"I want adventure!"
"I want to avenge a family member/friend/planet/other/all of the above"
"Your cause is noble and just."
"Joining you is better than dying."

And so on.

Well, I can imagine a darkspawn wanting to join the Wardens only in case he was condemned to death by his own brethren. Which is a common thing among darkspawn it seems, judging by Awakening - if you come from wrong place/broodmother, or served wrong master (the one who lost and died).

However, In Exile is right about intelligent darkspawn, they're monsters, but much more dangerous than usual darkspawn.

Imagine if it was a darkspawn emissary leading the darkspawn army, not an archdemon. And this emissary had a second-in-command, generals and such. So you actually have to fight the horde, and killing 1 dragon won't solve any problems. In this case, Ferelden is doomed.

Add here darkspawn having better armor and weapons and more powerful mages.

No, unless he hides his face. Everyone knows what a darkspawn is, and so would run frightened or try to kill him.

Yes, this also brings up the argument of, "will he fight other darkspawn", the answer is yes. Legion fights other Geth of a different faction, just as darkspawn do. If anyone says darkpawn won't fight their own kind obviously hasn't played Awakening.

I support this! I want a darkspawn companion. This is godly, epic and legend! Its even mystic. Why because we would learn more about the dark spawns origins and to actually know what it is to be like them. Please do this bioware. If you do I'll buy this game twice. ONe for the console and one for PC!

Origin... They're parasite races. An average darkspawn probably have no idea of his origin. They have pressing matters to attend - creating broodmothers and such.

Still, this could be interesting. Need some treyn or lord gone? Infect him with darkspawn taint, you have your own infecter now!

If an awakened darkspawn does turn out to be one of Hawke's companions, I'm starting an "I told you so", thread, guess will find out when they announce companions, or who knows maybe Bioware will keep this one a secret, let it be a pleasant surprise.

What would your darkspawn companion gifts be? Body parts?

Well intelligent darkspawn may have hobbies and certain interests like a collection of something other than skulls, body parts, etc. I'm sure he would appreciate it if you brought him an ancient sword or maybe a carved ogre miniature, who knows, but there are always possibilities now that they're not as mindless and violent as they use to be thanks to the Architect's research.

I just want to see a Party Camp exchange between the darkspawn companion and dog growling at each other, a la Sten.

Uh, seeing as Hawke isn't going to be a Grey Warden and therefore not immune to the taint, wouldn't that mean that s/he'd just get Blight sickness from a Darkspawn companion and die? Cause while that'd be an interesting ending, I'm not sure how satisfying it would be.

Read previous posts about finding away around this problem, because your right and we need to brainstorm ideas as to how this could work, because I really want it to. Darkspawn are some of the most interesting beings in Thedas, and having one in your party is the perfect way to understand them better.

Well, so far we know that darkspawn like totems, tattoos, meat and weapons. Well, I can think of some interesting presents.

As for the taint, in Awakening we're told that Architect found a way to control the taint so they could keep a qunari merchant in their headquaters and protect him from their taint. I suppose this can be used by darkspawn companion.

Heh, imagine an optional personal quest for such companion, where he tells you that he want to become a Father and need your help to snatch a woman and make her a broodmother. And in exchange he promises that his children will serve Hawke's cause (in final battle you'll have darkspawn troops available).
Now I want such companion too. So we snatch a qunari woman, so children will be big, horny and absolutely deadly in battle, maybe a bit stupid though.
