mmkay dont flame me if you think this is a bad idea, dont like it. Go somewhere else and start your own topic. anyways
While i was playing DA:O (since i heard that DA2 was anounced) i wondered what they mean by "fight like a spartan" actually ment. Then i started to dream about some things that could possibly work for the new system.

1. Keep the action bar idea
2. more moveability while fighting
3. also like a normal slash/power slash by holding down eather the left/right mouse bottons (PC) or  left/right triggers (PS3/Xbox)
4. being able to dodge coming blows by holding down the left/right mouse button or left/right triggers

In my head this system worked out for me. Just think of it, If you played oblivion just have a system like that but have an action bar for the spells and buffs and what not.

Also if YOU have any ideas of  your own post them here, who knows BioWare might be reading lol :o

I quite like the idea of tactical formations and advanced party tactics based on formations but in a world where AOE spells are common maybe it isnt such a good idea.

Real time combat, and pause-based combat for a strategic approach. I want both.

yeah I can see what you're talking about, but I can also see that it can work. Imagine two warriors going for the enemies while your mage backs them up by the typical spell(heal, paralyze,or increasing/decreasing stats) and your archer shooting arrows at the enemies. I guess this was how DAO was was supposed to work, but it wasn't perfect I hope they improve it.

I played Oblivion for awhile and probably will again, when I get tired of DA:O. There was a combat mod available for that game that increased combat choices manyfold and I enjoyed it immensely, even though it was a pretty rough mod.

I liked Oblivion's combat system at least as much as DA:O's, but I think even that is not enough considering the power of modern processors.

Basically I would just like much more control over the way my guy attacks an enemy. I don't want to have to target a baddie to initiate an attack.

I'd like to be able to choose a high, middle or low attack, at the very least, and more choices would be even better.

I'd like to be able to control the sword to at least this extent: left slash, right slash, overhead/downward slash, thrust, and as far as I'm concerned, even more control would be better.

There was a game that came out many years ago called "Die by the Sword" that had even more control available than that, so it's not a matter of software technology. By the time I found the game though, the graphics were so dated that I haven't played it much, but I have it installed on my system (or soon will, I just reinstalled the OS), and will probably take the time to learn the controls at least and see how the swordplay goes.

If playing S&S I'd like independant controls for the shield, so I could choose exactly when to block or shield bash, or shield pummel,.etc., again even more control would be better. If playing a rogue I'd like to be able to control the left hand independantly too, though I can see how that could get pretty involved, pretty quickly.

Before I reinstalled my system I had a demo of some game that began with a "'D" (determinance?) or something like that, where you controlled the sword entirely with the mouse. I only had a chance to do the tutorial before I had to reinstall, but that is the beginning of the kind of control that I am looking for.

In that game, you could block or attack with the sword at any angle by moving the mouse. I didn't have enough time to explore it to see if it had a thrust.

If you're interested, I found the game by doing a google search for "best melee swordfighting games pc" and found it on one of the forums.

I have no idea if this could be implemented on a console, because I always assumed they were simply a crippled PC, so never bothered to spend the money on one, but from what I understand, they don't have keyboards, and no way to plug in a 3rd party add on, and no way to add mods.

What a pity the console manufacturers dumbed down a supposed gaming platform so much, with no possibility of future upgrades. I think they made a terrible mistake, because it is the mods available that can really make a good game great. But I suppose the manufacturers have already gotten their money, so what do they care?

I've been gaming on a PC for 30 years or more and wouldn't trade it for anything.

I have a CH products setup plugged into the USB ports, so multiple keypresses are not a problem, even though my twitch skills were never really that great.

I would just like to be able to chop a guy off at the knees if he's above me on an incline. Or if he's using a shield with his left hand, I'd like the choice to be able to constantly attack his right side, or thrust if his shield moves out of position enough.

If it could be an RPG game with a good story and interesting upgrade path, that would be icing on the cake.

But most RPG's I've tried are weak on combat, and most combat games I've tried (not that many) are weak on story and upgrades.

I just downloaded the Conan free trial and although I've only just started playing, their combat system seems much more what I would like to see for DA2. One can only hope.

I'll buy DA2 in any event because Origins was so compelling even without combat control, but if the combat system is setup for consoles again, I'll probably bin it and play Oblivion or Conan, or the best RPG I can find that gives me some control over melee combat.

EDIT: If Bioware ever did anything like this, they could always include an option for regular DA:O style combat for those that weren't into the melee combat part of the game.

Honestly, I really liked the combat in DA:O. Overall, I hope it doesn't change much (and I think they've stated that it's basically the same).

One thing that would be nice is better spell combos. It was such a good concept, but they only gave you around eight. I want to feel like my spells have a discernible effect on the world.Posted ImagePosted Image

I liked the spell combos too, but I tend to play with a sword mostly now.

Erm, one thing I'd like to say is, is it possible not to have us heal during non-combat or after combat? This makes triggering traps during non-combat a bit silly as we heal faster. One example is in the Dead Trenches, in that room filled with poisonous gas. Yeah, so the gas slows us and injures us 10 damage but so what, I'm healing faster than getting injured.

So is it real time combat? I read the game info and it says real time and pause, so what is it like? I must know XD

"Different attacks are mapped to the X, Y, and B buttons of your controller (we were playing on an Xbox 360). Hawk, the hero of the game, had a typical sword swipe mapped to X, a thrust mapped to Y, and a twirl that would take down all the enemies around him mapped to B. By holding the right trigger you can access a second set of attacks, so it seems you’ll have six moves available to you at a time. Each move has a recharge time, so you can’t just keep mashing the X button to chop through enemies." Comic-con

Kinda what i was hoping for, i still find it better then DA:O. It would be better if they added a block option but ah well
