I don't believe I'm being elitist.  Nor are the people who complain about ME's sudden dive into very-much-not-an-RPG-territory.  I enjoy the games, actually.

If you ordered eggs Benedict at a restaurant and they brought you eggs Hussarde, telling you that it was in fact eggs Benedict, you might be inclined to complain, no matter how delicious the eggs Hussarde were.  ME2 is some damn delicious eggs Hussarde, but it's certainly not the RPG eggs Benedict everyone was led to believe it was by its predecessor and marketing.  

I suspect DA2 will end up being much the same, just given Bioware's recent track record.

Your analogy is right if all eggs are RPGs.  Mass Effect 2 was a great game, and the whiners do tend to be RPG elists, the same brand who moaned and complained for years before Fallout 3 was released.

I'm more or less talking about the people who automatically think that any non-RPG or RPG lite is a dumb game made for dumb people, and those who try to force some kind of obligation on BioWare to continue to make games that fills their specific type of gameplay niche because they bought KoTOR or BG2 with their allowance.



I don't see BioWare exclusively as a company that makes good RPG's. I see them as a company that makes good games. As long as they continue to do as such, I'll keep patronizing their products, regardless of what genres they decide wade in to.

And that's fine.  The trouble is, Bioware's known as one of the few developers in the RPG business, so RPG fans are going to get upset anytime they start to pull away from that, because they do indeed make damn good RPGs.  Plenty of other studios make good third-person shooters or small-unit RTS games - and they honestly do it better than Bioware.  

If they make a good game that's not an RPG, great, more power to 'em.  I'll buy it and play it.  If they sell it to me as an RPG, though, no matter how good it is, I'll be annoyed - just as I'd be annoyed if Grand Theft Auto 5 turned out to be a point-and-click adventure after I bought it on the basis of enjoying the sandbox mayhem of the previous games.

I haven't seen anyone from Bioware say that "these are pre alpha images.". Fan speculation, IMO.

Personally, I feel that everyone is telling themselves that to make them feel better because those screens look like crap.

If it was anything close to final we would be closer to release. Assuming something is "alpha" or "pre-alpha" isn't illogical in the slightest.



ME1 looked completely different at inception than what we ended up with.

Considering that Bioware keeps drilling into our heads that DA2 will look better and that they are working ALOT on the graphics, i fail to see how these crappy screenshots are the final look aka the "new and improved graphics".

So obviously everyone would assume its early stages. Hell look at the original DA's graphics, they looked like absolute crap and then look at the final product.

I agree with the OP. How can you judge the graphics from 2 alpha screens (e.g. the environments haven't been implemented yet etc) and 2 articles that say it's going to have some minor changes?

Nope the truly disgruntled make up 10% or less of the population. 20 are relatively concerned but a whopping 70% are not concerned much. The whiners are just much, much louder.

These accusations are crazy. I never played DAO but I am looking into getting the second one to get into the series. I'm just saying, I'm not that impressed.

Exactly what does one have to do with the other seeing as a lot of deatures from Origins seemed to be getting some level of an overhaul.

This example needs to end.  The original DA screenshots were from five or so year pre release using the NWN engine while they were completing their DA engine.  The DA2 screenshots are from nine months before the currently scheduled release on a pre-made engine.

Your character would only have been emotionless if you failed to give him emotions.  You know, call me crazy, but that's kind of the point of a role-playing game.  As such, I'd like to control my character's emotions rather than letting the voice director do it (and yes, I know about the "emotion icons" but all that means is I'll probably have a choice between the proper emotion and what I actually want my character to say.)

Well the name in the Quote says it all really but lets assume someone else with a better name posted this.

1) I can tell you have no imagination. People like to invent how their character sounds, not have it hard coded for them.

What do you never read books? Do you only listen to audio books with someone else reading for you?

2) Actually the combat will be "exactly" Like the PC version of DA:O so there is no update. Pretty common quote if you read rather then type.

Oh wait thats right, the audio version of the dev and writer statements not out yet!

3) No ones asking for the same storyline, there asking for the story to continue and finish! Awakenings did a decent job of giving closure (if you get past the still unfixed bugs and play it to end) but the DA:O story still not finished and thats what people asking for if you stop typing and start reading.

4) DA:O graphics didnt suck.

Closure: Its the RPG fans that supported all those titles you listed off that are concerned. The dont worry be mindless crowd your appart of all mostly (not all but many) admit they didnt play the earlier titles. Hell many of them dont even have DA:O registered. They just ME2 players here gloating that it sounds like anouther franchise changing to the ADD twitch style they want!

Im so sick and tire of the ME2 crowd and its cyber bullies coming here gloating and insulting the long time RPGs that are concerned. PAYING CUSTOMERS have a right to be concerned if they want and most of them have tried to make decent threads detailing their concerns but the TROLLS (Sorry Stanley but they are what they are) come in and call them whiners and other names because they lack the maturity and imagination to enjoy well written RPGs like DA:O.

If these so called whiners didnt care so passionately they wouldnt bother posting, they would just leave but they been invested in this company for alot longer then the average ME2 poster like Ecael and her horde have been. So how about you let people have their say and if all you can do is call them whiners doom and gloomers and such for wanting to let Bioware know they liked the old product! How about you all just goto bed like you were told hours before!
