If you're weary of the reaction, then I suggest heading here for a chuckle:

http://www.something...ge-reaction.php

While I appreaciate the fact the author of that article presented the most ridiculous fears of the playerbase to get his audience to laugh, there are also people who could post a valid reason as to why somebody would have a problem with having to play from 3rd person perspective, want DA2 to be a direct sequal to the Warden's story, explain the whole "silent pc vs voiced Hawke" or be concerned with the dialogue wheel.

You can find both constructive arguments and ridiculous whinning for each of these points. I don't think we should be so quick to dismiss an argument as long as it can be presented in a respectful, well though out manner.

people have a right to voice their concerns, especially in things that they care about. all of us (hopefully) care about the games BW make, that's why we're here.

i agree that with the DA2 just being announced, it's too early to pass judgement. however, with what they have announced so far, this game is coming out with a complete about face of what DA:O was, and coming more in line with BW's other franchise... which happens to be ME.

now of course that is a 'big' change as it is. i prefer a wait-and-see approach but do voice my concern that I don't like the change. DA:O is the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate as BW said. so i was expecting a return to that kind of game. where you have a character you created and played to through 4 games (BG, TotSC, BG2:SoA, BG2:ToB).

and let me tell you that playing the same character for those 4 games was epic. not just maxing out your PC, but the going through the story in itself was epic. you feel for your PC while the game goes on.

that's what i was expecting and i think most of the other players here complaining about the change. i feel shortchanged, i was expecting something in the lines of what the BG series was.

BW needs to hear what their fans are saying about this game whether pro or con. how can they make a good game if we don't tell them what we like or don't like?

I'm not angry over the game. Who the hell cares about what changed (well, I don't :P )! I am angry over the fact that it's coming out too soon! Holy cow, BioWare isn't EA sports who decides to throw a sequel to a horrible game next year! BioWare isn't EA whoever made all those horrible, horrible Need for Speeds since 2003. So what, by 2020 we are seeing "DRAGON AGE 11!!!!!" ??

I've rather enjoyed a high percentage of EA's games over the last decade, including 3 separate Need For Speed games :?

Wait until you see more of the game (or better yet, play it yourself) before you decide that they're rushing things.

Agreed, but that's the crux of the problem here.  Many people aren't bothering to discuss things in a respectful, well thought out manner.

So you're mad because the game is rushed and bad but it isn't out for you to make that judgment.

Cool.

I am mad because the game COULD get rushed. Read better. I stated I am mad at the dates, I was never saying the game could be rushed. But without some time, the game could end up horribly.

I agree so much, that I recently reinstalled BG, BG2 and ToB, along with a mod to turn it all into one massive game. THAT was what I hoped DA would be like, but alas. The dissapointment will not leave me, but I still entertain an -admittedly faint- hope, that at least Bioware will release an expansion or perhaps a DLC to properly end the characters from the first game.

Thanks for the link. If anything the strong reactions among the fans is a good thing as it's a sign of how successful Dragon Age is in securing a dedicated (if vocal) fanbase.

I will be missing Dwarves and Elves PCs in DA2, that's for sure. Playing a Dwarf in DAO is a real treat compared to most CRPGs in which they're just short grumpy humans with beards and a Scottish accent (if anything that's an area where DAO is superior to BG).

I hope Bioware will succeed in making DA2 just as good as DAO (if not better) and a worthy successor to other great titles (and especially the BG series). I just hope things won't get rushed and that we will be able to play the game as it is meant to be played (looking at BG2 we have to admit that the Ascension mod for Throne of Bhaal was a major improvement over the regular ending of BG2).

Did you hear what those Orlesians said about the next nug sale? New improved thrusting nugs fight like spartan Schmooples Hawke! They even talk! I tell you, nugs were called bacon in the old days. I blame the marketing men.

Spritual successor =/= exactly the same.  Playing the same character through the BG series doesn't mean you have to do it in Dragon Age to make it a good series.

DA2 isn't any more of a 3rd person perspective than DAO is.  In DAO you couldn't pick your last name.  You couldn't create a character's background from scratch, you had 6 different backgrounds you could pick from.  The only difference is you can't pick a different race.  OOOOOH sooooooooooo different.

Hmm. Do people really think that this sort of condescending attitude towards one's fellow gamers' tastes will make a company decide that their money is more worthwhile? I'm curious.

At least his assumption is based on an established history of good games rather than jumps in logic.

YOU don't give your character life.  YOU don't even get to decide *what* your character says to people.  You choose from a list of pre-determined responses in *every* situation.  If *you* are adding life that isn't in those lines and scenes originally, you are misintepreting what is happening.

The exception that proves the rule.

Baldur's Gate Series, Mass Effect 1 and 2, Dragon Age, NWN, Jade Empire, KOTOR.

Woooo.

Well, I wasn't aware Bioware valued some money over others.

I guess the CAD is ever so slightly higher than the USD this morning. (Oh man I should have waited a bit to buy awakening last week, could have saved myself like $4)

Yes of course we choose from a limited list of options.

And when the option for my character doesn't exist, I have the option of pretending it does through THE IMAGINATIONZ.

That is the worst logic I've ever heard.  If that's the case you can use IMAGINATIONZ as you so eloquently put it to "imagine" whatever life you want that the voice acting leaves out.  Are you really that stupid?

You're right.  Baldur's Gate was sooooooo terrible.
