This is not about playing a predefined character. Plenty of great, popular rpgs had very limited appearance choices (anything Gothic-y, Witcher, ME, etc). Anyway.
This is about stats and powers. I think a lot of people (esp around here) like to play with them. Give us more, please?
As an example, I think the rogue was pretty well done. There were multiple ways to play one, and multiple effective ways to build one. (Maybe not 100% equally effective but whatever, close enough.) You couldn't get everything you wanted, you had to make choices.
Mage was okay, although I kind of missed spell-collecting like back in BG days, and then being limited in a particular encounter to what you chose. But you do get to choose amongst various cool spells, so Not Bad.
Warrior was a bit boring (and this is after playing through twice as warrior). It was just a case of pick a weapon style at level one and then fill in the columns as you go. No real choice after the first one. Boost strength. Done.
A little more interdependency on stats (for example, willpower/con being actually useful) would be nice. And more, deeper branching like with specializations.
Just a thought.
More character (stat) building
