I'm stuck on the Tali Recruitment mission, playing as a Soldier...  I just can't get past that Geth Colossus...  Any tips?  Should I just start a new game?

I was going to say Soldier :D

Nah, Colossus is not hard to kill, just take the path on the right, fight your way to the Colossus, take cover and then just take him down with Sniper/Assault rifle and Adrenaline Rush.

Well, I tried that a couple of times and ended up with zero shields and about 2% of health and failed miserably, since it's out in the sun... I'll try it again later though...

You can get into a position (right wing) where the Colossus can't hit you - shouldn't be too hard to bring it down.

As a vanguard you can charge across the map instantly and finish the whole fight in around 1 min (video below in my channel)

Engineer is a very safe class for Insanity-combat drone is easily spammable and can neutralize tough enemies like no other class. YMIRs, Harbinger, flanking/charging enemies, and especially Scions are easiest with the engy's drone, which is nice since those are my main causes of death.

That said, the soldier is pretty straightforward, and if you're already that far into the game you may as well continue. Once you pass the collector ship 2/3 of the way through things become much easier.

The path on the right is easiest-I think if you position yourself behind cover on those box things on the left your shields won't drain. Just pick off enemies and advance into the shade. Once you're there few enemies can attack you and its pretty easy to down the Colossus.

Just wait a few minutes with Kal Reegar. Snipe the geth that come down or along the flanks. When the geth stop coming, make your way up the stairs to the right and shoot the geths along the catwalk. When you reach the sniper pearch, you should see some more geth and a destroyer come at you. Take cover and take em out. Once they are out of the way, take cover in the sniper's pearch and shoot the colossus. Keep a squadmate on your back in case the odd geth come up, but they shouldn't be a problem. Take out the colossus and you're done,.

Mosor is correct, I always play it that way, and when I do have trouble it is because geth flank you from the left after you are shooting from the pearch.

I've only played through on insanity twice. Both times I waited at the beginning with Kal and killed all the geth I could see until they stopped coming. With my Sentinel I went left and with my Infiltrator I went right. I found both ways equal in difficulty. Just move forward slowly and drop any geth you see before advancing to the next section of cover. Once the geth are killed taking down the Colossus should be easy enough just don't die.

Yeah, I had a hard time on instanity with that too.
Best class, definitely sentinel.
When you play on insanity it's almost all about shields: taking down enemy shields and keeping up your own.
As a sentinel you have Warp and Overload so you can take care of either organic or tech enemies. And plus you have that wicked sweet tech armor.

I find the left easier to watch, less chance of getting flanked. The right has the nice perch, but you need to keep a squadmate behind to watch for adds. If you have the Blackstorm Singularity Projector, you can glitch the Colossus into a position where he doesn't fire at you so often.

What is all this talk about Geth flanking you? I always took the left way and never had the problems of anything flanking me. Just get there, shoot anything in sight, wait for the Geth Destroyer spawn, shoot it and proceed to the Colossus. There, just whittle it down ond keep those Geth Destroyers at distance via Squadmates. Works with any class (didn't try Adapts yet, though they shouldn't have more problems).

On the right, I've had Destroyers come around to the back of the Sniper Perch and flamethrower me.
