I completely understand the decision to go with a voiced player character, and as that choice has already been made debating its merits is pointless.

However, what I would like to know is if we have any options on choosing the voice for our version of the Hawke character. (Other than male or female)

Whether we do or not really affects whether Dragon Age 2 will have any replay value for me.

I identify the voice so strongly with an individual character that I never play two different characters with the same voice set -- even when the voice sets are only battle cries.

This really hit home when I tried to replay the Mass Effects. Even if I chose a different face and made different choices, because the main character still had the same voice it just felt like I was playing the same character.

So, will there be more than one Hawke voice option for each gender?

I seriously doubt it. In fact, I would be amazed if the devs did.

More than two full-dialogue voice options would take up a lot of disk space, and I don't think it'd be worth Bioware's time.

No, I don't think that it was even considered. It is not only expensive, but it also takes a lot of space.

I highly doubt it. One voice for each gender.... unless of course they find one really talented VA :)

Do you have any idea how much that would cost and how much space it would take? (think 4 disc swaps for 360)
I'd rather they spend their budget on something more useful

It's going to be one voice per gender. To think anything else is dreaming. To add a little more variance to the player voice, they could add a pitch slider to adjust the pitch of the player's voice. But I doubt they will do that.

Did you think about the localisation of more choices of voices?

More space, more money, so more issues

Blu-ray on PS3, blu-ray drives on PC.

And screw 360 ? Most PC users don't have a blu-ray rom

Besides, money is the main issue, not space

There's abouta 0.0001% chance of that happening I think, however much I would like it it's just way too time consuming/expensive/etc.

Doubt it. There will likely be way too many lines to record.

They did it for Saints Row 2...

(don't judge me harshly for playing that game ;_;)

Pfft.  Judge nothin'.  That game is awesomesauce.

As for more than one voice per gender?  Likely not.  Plus, protagonist VO cuts into the content.  As was said last time by devs about DAO:  if the protagonist was voiced, we'd have had 50 percent less conent.

I too, actually, imagine my character with voices depending on what they look like. But i guess i will have to play this one like i played Mass Effect, use the default face... Where's the roleplaying now???

Saints Row 2 has much less dialogue for the protagonist than Bioware games

I'd have assumed they'd at least try to do one voice tailored for each of the three classes. But as Duncan once said, "we assumed a great many things that have not proven true."

So I'd expect one per gender, and pray to whatever gods you worship they aren't the same voices from Mass Effect. At least for Hawkeman.

I'd doubt they would re-use Mass Effect voice, that would just invite too much comparison.

Still hoping for more choices.

Perhaps the day will come when we would have more than voice option, but right now as many other folks have pointed out, it would be prohibitively expensive both monetarily and in terms of disc space.

The disc space issue won't be a problem in the next generation I'm sure, but voice acting is an expensive proccess. Unless of course they make their interns do the voice acting, somehow I get the feeling the VO's would sound like they were being voiced by the characters from "The IT Crowd."

Heh, on second thought....

It would be great if you had more voice choices. I hated listening to FemShepard talk. She sounded like a hard ass woman, which is fine, but that wasn't the type of character I was going for. At the very least I hope we have a pitch slider thing.

As long as the voice acting is really good, instead of sounding like the person wasn't putting any feeling into the role, like can be the case with many male characters, they tend to sound pretty bland as well as some female characters.

Actual feeling and emotion in the voice acting can help the player come to care about the character.

And there's nothing wrong with liking Saint's Row 2, it's a great game, much more fun and a better game than GTABore, I mean Snore, sorry 4.

I'd still rather have one authentic English voice actor than a choice of three American ones. That is the most important thing to me in terms of the character's voice, authenticity.
