Right, so I have no freaking idea on how to insert an image. There is no image insertion box in the toolbar. But you've all seen the two screenshots that has been released.

Anyway: Are those things supposed to be darkspawn?! WHAT?! They doesn't look like darkspawn at all! You can't just go an re-design some of the most important creatures in the world of Dragon Age! That's like if George Lucas had re-designed Stormtroopers to wear clown suits in The Empire Strikes Back, instead of retaining their white armour.

Please don't tell me that you've redesigned them.

They look more like ressurected Darkspawn corpses if you ask me.

Or there will be improvements I dunno.

I like how the ogre looks, and the armour fits the lore better than what they had in DA:O.

The hurlocks though... In DA they looked like fleshy skeletons. Now they just look like humans with skin conditions.

I'm tickled by the fact that the Ogre is wearing a brassiere. You have no idea... lol

The way I see it, these are the Darkspawn of an entirely different land, at least I assume so. Otherwise *Spoiler Alert* the Architect in Awakening would've made them sentient by now *End Spoilers* Now, while obviously I have no idea if that is the case, I would assume so. As for their gear, well it looks like they're in a desert which may also explain the change in pigment from the cold climate of Ferelden. They said you become a hero within the Free Marches, not that most of the game takes place there. I would assume they wish to show small nuggets of different regions so they may be able to expand upon it in the future.

it would actually be really cool if their gear changes depending on where you are

They look like desert darkspawn to me. Or undead darkspawn. The non-ogres don't look like hurlocks to me... more like the talking guys from DA:A.

They're Alpha screenshots, people. The graphics engine isn't even being fully utilized yet. Give it a rest.

Disciples had no noses though, and looked way more like Darkspawn than these things.

I'm not complaining about the graphics. They are fine and will improve. I'm complaining about design here.

The design isn't final either so I don't think you have anything to worry about.

You can very easily redesign them... happens all the time in the videogame world and most times for the better. As graphics improve and franchises evolve game franchices can take HUGE visual changes.

Everquest, Halo, Dynasty Warriors, the Witcher, are just a few to come to mind which have visually changed for the better (or worse, guess opinion comes inti play)

This may come as a suprise, but NOT ALL DARKSPAWN LOOK ALIKE. They looked alike 'cos BioWare didn't have enough budget to make several different versions

Have you played Awakening ? There's different darkspawn there too

I'd say they even look more like darkspawn than before. Darkspawn are twisted and vaguely recognisable versions of their origin races. In Origins they were very, very slightly recognisable at best and more akin to LoTR movie orcs. Those here, especially the ogre, look really like someone pulled apart the basic structure and set it back in an exaggerating and twisting manner.

They look positively horrible now, where the Origins darkspawn looked more or less like animated skeletons and the ogre even kind of cute. All just my opinion, mind you. And beauty lies in the eye of the beholder, so I reckon horror does so too.

How to insert images using BBcode is this simple.

**Remove all the hyphens within the square brackets**

well I'm of two minds....the first...the darkspawn in DA:O looked like Orcs ripped out of the Jackson LoTR films..even if, lore wise, they're nothing of the sort...they sure did look like bite-offs.

so on one hand I'm glad they did re-design them.

on the other hand...if we both saw the same picture with Cloud..I mean "hawke" leaping in the air and the ogre and two other DS were in it...they look ****ING TERRIBLE.

and I thought we were getting a "huge graphic update"? even though it looks "cleaner" the style and overall look is worse then DA:O as well.

Besides the skin pigment which can be explained by geography, I suspect the Broodmothers don't give birth to fully-armoured darkspawns (although frankly I'd rather not know; such a cut-scene would be... traumatizing). They need to get their armours elsewhere, so presumably they'd depend on local geography either for stealing them or for creating them; there was a darkspawn 'forgemaster' in Return to Ostagar, wasn't there? Presumably those forgemasters have learned to make armor based on local human/elf/dwarf knowledge rather than from other darkspawns.

That doesn't mean I love the new style, but if the texture resolution and lightning were better I certainly would have no reason to complain. Oh well.

I like the new looks for the Darkspawn. The look in DA:O always felt generic.

Never heard of that in the lore.

The different part of Thedas everyone is talking about is about as far from Fereldan as the longitude width of Lake Calenhad. Also we don't really know it's a different part of Thedas or that we'll see the darkspawn much if at all once Hawke escapes Lothering and the blight of the first game.

But it is set in Free Marches north of Freldan, so an entirely different country.

Maybe those are Beardspawn then? No beards so far, but who knows, maybe their beards are located somewhere around crotch.

i think, the games just early in, and these are pretty low quality. like someone else said, most early images are fairly low quality compared to what you actually get. or maybe instead of gray, well get weird white darkspawn now.
