OK I got this quote from a roundabout source: http://greywardens.c...ator/#more-8832

The article is quoting from this site, but I have no idea where. The article itself is irrelevant to this thread.

Yes. The story follows the tale of Hawke, an escapee from Lothering as it was overtaken by the Blight in Dragon Age: Origins. You start out penniless, and a refugee, and over the course of 10 years (epic, yes?) rise to become the Champion of Kirkwall. Your tough moral choices and your choice of companions will define you — and define the shape of things to come.

So, according to this, you have a choice of companions. I think it means those 19 or so outlines on the box art are all the possible companions, but you have to make a choice which ones you actually recruit. I assume if you are tending towards the evil side you would choose companions that match your personality, and vice versa.

I certainly hope not. 19?? I'd rather have 4 or 5, very well developed, than 10 with nothing to say. You had a choice in DA:O as well, to recruit someone or not or to get rid of them if they bothered you.

well i would assume its not going to be the same as origins, you will probable have only a few companions that stay with you for the full decade and some others that can come in and out for short periods maybe for certain main quests or something...just my speculation.

Ahhh, variety is the spice of life. I hope there is a fairly large cast as well. I think maybe 9 or so total, one for each of the traditional DnD style alignment. Three or so 'good' companions that won't join up if Hawke is a known A-Hole in all the lands, 4 or so evil ones, who similarly won't join up or will possibly come to blows with you if you've been a goody two shoes, and 3 or so neutral companions who couldn't care less. Enough variety there without detracting from the writing too much, now that origins are out.

Maybe companions will stay with you, but not as companions.

I personally like the direction they're headed with Dragon Age 2. Dragon Age "Origins" was a story which focused on the "Origin" of the character. I personally would rather not see Dragon Age "Origins" 2. The Origins were awesome, but a change up could be really awesome too. Time required to program responses for different races and origins can now be spent programing responses to how the world reacts to the actions your character makes, rather than just who you are.

The whole concept moves more towards the Mass Effect way of doing things... but is that a bad thing? Mass Effect was awesome. Bioware is known for creating engaging stories, and awesome games that suck up massive amounts of my free time. They won't disappoint!

I also hope there won't be so many companions. ME2 suffered from this - the companions were an intriguing bunch who didn't have much to say for themselves. I'd rather have fewer characters with more depth. 6-8 is enough, really.

I'm assuming we're sticking with protagnoist plus two wingmen for missions?

Yeah I do hope having so many to choose from won't mean they are not fully developed. What I found interesting though was that you will apparently be judged by NPCs according to who you recruit.

Actually, some of the Mass Effect 2 squadmates did have a lot to say - even more so than the non-human Mass Effect 1 squadmates. Some of them needed to be romanced before opening up to Shepard, however.

BioWare can pull off making and voicing 20 or so companions with lots of Hawke-companion dialogue, but there wouldn't be much companion-companion dialogue as a result.

If they go on the ME2 route with more companions, many of them will end up being busy with some calibrations.:)) Which means that they won't have much to say outside the romance and no banter - amazing in DA:O. I think that having less companions allows them to dwell more on each of them and to integrate them better in the story.

I hope they keep the party banter. It was a lot of fun. It would be a lot of extra voice work though with so many combinations of companions..

It's a risky manoeuvre because I think having so many squadmates in Mass Effect 2 was one of the reasons the game sucked balls. However if all 19 characters are thoroughly developed and all have interesting personalities in their own ways, that makes the idea of multiple playthroughs much more appealing to me especially if you can only have say 6 or 7 companions in each playthrough.
