A week should be enough time to move the essential threads.

If Bioware is unwilling to move those posts over from the old forums to the new forums - and I don't see why they wouldn't want to since the entire community is built around that content - at the very least, can we get an archive (table dump) of all posts, which can then be parsed out and hosted elsewhere by members of the community? User information isn't essential, but the content surely is.
Thanks!

Then they came for our character, with their "pre-generated" fully voiced protagonist.
Then they came for our forums...
Harumph!

Well, yes; but I'm not an idiot, I realise that's an impossible task. However, I do believe it worth the trouble for certain stickies, mainly the more static ones. It is BioWare's official position only to the extent that the old threads simply won't be migrated (or they would have already been), it is not like they want to throw it all out.ç i p h é r wrote...
Snoteye, are you suggesting that the community copy and paste forums that contain years worth of information?
You should maybe ask in the site help forum and hope for an official answer to this question. I expect that they will attempt to archive the fora.ç i p h é r wrote...

A better question is actually whether hotlinks to any legacy thread will redirect to the BSN forum index, as with the ME and DA:O fora.Selene Moonsong wrote...
I am hoping that any links Community Members create here to the legacy site will survive the archiving process.

Bringing over all the portraits would seem trivial as well, I kind of like this new one though. My sig's gone too, another one that would have seemed trivial.

So far all I've heard is:
1) Bioware has little intention of moving forums threads and we (the community) have a week to do an impossible task.
2) Bioware's Social site has little to no tools for the NWN/NWN2 specific communities, of which there are hundreds to thousands of community members.

I understand they want to move everything to social, and that's their right and I have no problem with it. But the social forum software needs some work on some things any forum should have.
Importing the old stuff would be on the top of my list. So much info there.

We will be archiving the legacy site so the information will not be lost, but we will be relying on our fans to copy/paste the threads/info they want to these forums.
Handy tip, if you are going to cut and paste, use something liek notepad as an intermediary format change to avoid badness in the process.

If they can't move the posts, what will the purpose of this forum be? I think the primary value of the old forums was in the knowledge it had archived over the years, for players and for builders alike. Even now, I frequently use the search feature, as I'm sure many others do. It was the NWN2 reference manual.
If that's gone, what anchors the community here? Why bother starting from scratch at all?
Furthermore, if we lose that content, intentionally or no, everyone will once again be forced to work through every problem that had previously been solved. I'm afraid I just don't see a majority of people reinvesting that kind of time for an old game. Intuitively, this kind of restart can only accelerate the demise of the game and the NWN2 community.

Will do. Thanks for the tip. I'll cross my fingers.

Does the new forum will have an upgrade for it's search tools ?

If the information in the legacy forums will continue to exist and be accessible in a read-only format then this should be a minor inconvenience at most. In fact I'd think it could be handled by starting a thread on the new social site with a link in the first message to the prior thread. New responses could be made to the new site, and folks could refer to information in the old site for reference.
If the plan is to eventually take down the old site entirely at some point, though, then we'll have to start migrating the information over to the new forums as you suggest. As long as there's plenty of warning time before the old forums shut down, that should be manageable.
