Sadly, there is no way to directly transfer the threads from the legacy forum to the current Social site forums.
We will be archiving the legacy site so the information will not be lost, but we will be relying on our fans to copy/paste the threads/info they want to these forums.
Handy tip, if you are going to cut and paste, use something liek notepad as an intermediary format change to avoid badness in the process.
Ok, thank you for clearing up that the forum posts will not be lost forever. That would truely suck. As long as we can search the old forums and move the relivant infomation here, that will be fine. The NWN/NWN2 communities will adapt.

Bump. Don't want this question to get lost amid all the off topic noise. A response would be really really appreciated here, if you really want to help the NWN2 community out of the goodness of your hearts.ç i p h é r wrote...
Chris, will this archive be searchable or downloadable? Will the community have access to the data? If so, where/how can we obtain it?
Some details would be greatly appreciated!

1) Legacy Forums will close Monday, 19 July 2010
2) All forum data will remain intact with links still functional until archived.
3) After Archive, the forums' data will still be there, but it is uncertain if the current *(and now original) links will function to get you there. You may just have to visit the Archives, search and relink. This is not certain at this time.
4) Guilds and Registry Forums will remain open, though they can (and may) be closed without notice any time after the Official Forums Closing Date in point 1.
5) Data can be transferred 'by hand' from there to here for topics, threads and posts deemed important enough for you to do so. (This, I think, should be collaboratively discussed and an action plan chosen soon.)
6) Your ability to log into and play in PWs, MP via your CD-Keys that are already registered will be unaffected.
7) I don't know at this point in time if there will be a new repository for CD-Keys registration, so the current recommendation is to copy them off your old account and store them someplace safe (and private) just in case there comes a time when this is an issue.
At this point in time, that's all I know for certain, or as certain as I can know it. Please let's not speculate on what may be, or focus on how troublesome this is. Let's roll up our sleeves and SOLVE issues as they arise. If that's the tack we take, then the seas will assuredly be smoother than if we simply all sail willy nilly without a plan or coordination of our efforts.
Any other suggestions on how to capture, collate and re-incorporate game related information (such as tips and tricks for key commands, functions, settings, etc,) as well as trouble shooting, rules, etc, into these fora are welcome and encouraged.
From my old Air Force days (wow, has it really been 25 years last month that I got out?) I was told and trained: If there is a problem and you bring it to someone's attention and you don't have a solution or plan to fix it, then you're just complaining. That makes you part of the problem. Let's be solutions oriented about these efforts, people and, knowing most of you for some time online, I am confident that is the general nature of this Community anyway.
Still, a decent pep talk is always a nice way to help focus effort. And don't you find it ironic that I use sailing metaphors when my military experience was around flying? I know I do.

As for moving the old forum posts over, I totally agree with you. If that process is not managed in some way, I can see things getting horribly chaotic, particularly in the form of duplicate posts.

I find it VERY difficult to believe the old forums cannot be moved to the new. It should be a very easy programming task.
I had the SoD forums at one site for awhile and then transferred them. The previous hosting site makes a business of transferring growing forums to a paid service (hosted by another company) when they outgrow the free service, or need more options. The thing is, that just involves transferring the database from one site to another, but it remains the same - phpBB.
I'm guessing that neither this site nor the old one uses phpBB so transferring the data may not be nearly as easy, especially considering that I don't think the two boards are the same type (they certainly don't seem like it to me!). So I can believe it when they say that the old database can't be transferred.

What they should say is that they "won't" do the transfer.

At least, that's how I saw it from the outset. It's obviously always going to boil down to a dollars/benefit analysis. The forums are valuable to us as players, modders, builders, etc, But no matter how valued they are, it's clearly so much cheaper to not transfer the data bases straight over than it would be to spend the moolah to pay some outisde service to get 'er done, with nothing more than (again, my opinion is that this is a Corporate perspective) a marginal PR gain from an aging Community that isn't making the company any real cash.
See? Optimist though I am, I can look at things without the blinders most attribute to optmists. I believe the estimate here is sound. And that's what we have to deal with as best we can.

I dont like this move honestly legeacy was sooo much more mature now the combinations gonna bring in the pessimist mainstream new gen gamers who do nothing but rant and flame the games cause their not made in their fashion lol owell.
we gonna be able too combine our legacy accounts cd keys and what not into one ?
So, if we just all agree to keep it nice and play like none of us is the only child in the sandbox, we should be fine here.
