From GameInformer:

"Rather than try to mimic the PC experience on consoles Dragon Age II has a battle system more tailored to the strengths of the PS3 and 360."

The kb/m support on PS3 is native and is really easy to setup.  I'm not sure how easy it is to set up on 360 but I heard it can be done.  So, in addition to the new combat scheme for people who prefer controllers, wouldn't it be possible to include both?  Not sure how feasible it would be on the 360 with the limitation of storage space.  You can do multiple discs on 360 but I heard Microsoft charges higher licensing fees for more discs which is why Square-Enix compressed the FMVs on FFXIII so they could squeeze the game on 3 DVDs.  But the PS3 has blu-ray media.  So, theoritically, it's possible to put both versions on one disc.

Now, just to talk specifically about the PS3 and why I made this post.  You said the console version will be tailored to the strengths of the PS3/360.  One of the strengths of the PS3 is it's larger disc size and that it can work with keyboard/mouse.  Unreal Tournament III works great on PS3 with kb/m.  So when you say "tailored to the strengths of the PS3 and 360", you really mean what each can do the same, i.e. lowest common denominator, right?  Cuz otherwise you can make one meet the strengths of the PC, one to meet the strengths of the PS3, and one to meet the strengths of the 360.  I understand there's only so much time to develop a game and you have a specific budget in mind when you develop a game and that this is a pie-in-the-sky look at the world, but I think it's really something you should consider for future projects.

Just some food for thought. :)

I'm quite sure that this would be feasible, if it weren't for the 360's mouse and keyboard boycott. Having to create a sole PS3 feature that caters to a small(er) part of the PS3 community is too much work for too little to gain, I think.

But, don't take my word for it. The only ones who can really provide you with an answer is Bioware themselves.

Like I said in my post, I would only suggest including both schemes. One for those who prefer to play with a controller and one for those who prefer to play with kb/m.

What's wrong with having the option for both on a console that supports it?

Does the PS3 version have tactical over the top view? Without that keyboard+mouse would mean a lot less.

I don't think Bioware would be opposed to giving that option on principle or anything, it's not really feasible budget wise to port a completely seperate version of the game for a very small number of people though;.

No, it doesn't, nor does the Xbox version. Apparently it was taken out due to memory limitations (512mb as opposed to 1gb or more).

Won't happen. Most console gamers have the attitude that the gamepad is the holy of holies. It's great for some types of game play, but it sucks and limited for others.

Until that changes you can forget it.

I keep hearing the Sony first-party devs saying how awesome those SPUs are.  Maybe they could use those or something. :P

this.
although, minus the holies part.
i mean, for certain games, i LOVE to play them, and will only play them on pc. like strategy games, they have no business on a console (rts games like starcraft/total war that is) for other games, i prefer the controller, it gives it a more hands on and interactive feel to me. for most of the first or 3rd person type games, controller all the way.

The problem is most console gamers do not have a keyboard/mouse for them and it's completely unreasonable to expect them to buy on just for this game.

The PS3 supports mouse and keyboard, the XBOX360 however explicitely bans the use of them.

It would be like asking a PC gamer to plug in a game pad to play Battlefield.

EXACTLY. lol
even if it can be done, doesnt mean it should. there are varieties of platforms and play styles for a reason, different people will like different ones.

A keyboard/mouse setup on PS3/360 isn't really needed, if the new battle system is tailored to the control pad then it sounds like it would be better than a keyboard/mouse setup for consoles.

It never was about why, only about if it's possible on consoles.

For shooters this is true, but playing Street Fighter IV on a PC with a controller is a better setup than mouse/keyboard.

But what if SF REQUIRED a game pad to be played in the first place? Not that it was better, that you needed one to play. I think that is what we're talking about.

No.  I'm only suggesting that there should be an option, i.e. both controls schemes available in case you want to play with a kb/m on a console that supports kb/m.

I like options

If this was on Dreamcast it would have that option
