Couple questions: How much difference does all the crap I've been tossing in the supply crates make?  I did notice that most of my army seems to have enchatned weapons of some kind, but it seems my troop numbers are constant regardless, and that having only 12 mages is a little few (donated more of my 'useless' runes to them than to anyone else).

12 is the max for mages I think, but they go a long way. I only lost two in my entire fight against the Archdemon. I think it just upgrades equipment, yes. That's based on the Redcliffe mercenaries comments that they'd take your gold and buy better equipment. I figure it has to be the same deal for the other groups as well.

Mmhm, makes me wish I'd actually remembered to dump all my gold into filling those crates before I left then.

There is no change in the equipment level or how many guys you get in the final battle. All it does is net you XP.
