Many of you may not be aware, but there is a semi-official NWN2 chat, run for the community by the community reps.
There are two official channels/rooms:
* #nwn2cr - discussion in here ranges from gameplay, to toolset use, multiplayer, scripting, and pretty much everything in-between.
* #nwn2spoilers - discussion about the Original/Official Campaign, Mask of the Betray, and Storm of Zehir that may contain spoiler content.
You'll usually find between 30-50 people online at any given time.
You can use our browser-based applet to connect you automatically, which can be launched here. Alternatively, you can connect using your preferred IRC program, such as mirc or free x-chat for Windows. The server can be found at irc.nwn2source.net.
Please keep discussion in the official channels to a "PG" rating. The definition of this can be found here
Edit: Please remember that people in the chat room are in many different time zones - if you have a question and don't get an answer immediately, wait around for a bit or stop back later and you'll probably have better luck.

Pretty lonely in there. Why not set up weekly timeslots and grab more people?

There is discussion all the time...of course sometimes there's not, but I'm on everyday and there's always someone to talk to.

Yep, there's usually someone in there who can't keep their mouth shut in there.

Discussion goes in spurts. Best thing is to log-in and leave it in a window minimized and look back every so often to see what's being discussed.
Unless of course you have questions of your own (as I often do)... in which case ask away. There's always someone there who knows the answer (or will help you find it).

Yeah, I feel the same way, brian, but in my particular case, it's true and I don't give a rat's fart what anyone else thinks about it, so no offense taken.

I'm fairly befuddled when I get to the chat site. Can someone dumb down the process to get to the correct chat? Its not on the list I looked at and finding the correct search window is a pain.

In X-chat, once you have conneted to the server, at the top under the server menu , you can select "list of channels". A new window opens and you can just click search. Without any keywords, it shows you all the channels. There are normally only a couple, nwn2cr is the one for NWN2. "Project Q" is a channel for modding project for NWN1.
Hope that helps.

I also use X-Chat. However I have also used Mirc and WinChat and some other really crappy free chat tool.
When your chat window first opens up (the very first time) you'll have to find the settings for the chat program to find the IRC connection you seek. This is when you need to know the information in the 3rd post above:
irc.nwn2source.net/6667 That's the URL and Port setting.
#nwn2cr That's the IRC "Room" you're looking for. The settings are pretty straightforward, but to new folks the information doesn't just "JUMP OUT" at you, so keep that in mind and take your time.
If you need other assistance, please feel free to post more questions. Your questions and the answers they provide may make all the difference to the typical forum 'lurker' who reads, yet doesn't post, and get them to at least 'poke their virtual heads' into the chat room as well.
I also recommend joining and waiting a few minutes before adding your 'voice' to the mix. Sometimes folks are privately communicating in several different windows at once and it may seem like nothing's going on. If you wait a couple of moments and nothing shows up onscreen and you have a question, then that's the best time to ask it -- and then be patient.
There may also be times when you come in and things will be quite 'hectic' with 3 to 5 multiple conversations happening on the channel all at the same time. It's going to take a while to get used to the multi convo moments. It helps it you pretend you're at one of those mixer parties where everyone's talking at the same time and you have to quickly split your attention to be able to follow more than one of them at any given moment.
Feast or Famine. Always worth checking out, especially if you have some cool news or a real issue that could use some help.
best regards,
dunniteowl

Okay, I thought I had this settled before, so let me try this another way.
X-Chat first time login to NWN2 IRC Instructions:
1) When you first open X-Chat you should have a screen applet that appears somewhat blank. At the top of the application are your standard application toolbar options:
XChat -- View -- Server -- Settings -- Window -- Help
2) The first time you use XChat or the first time you set up a new IRC server connection, you need to select: XChat.
3) In the XChat window that opens up, you'll see:
User Information
Nickname
Second Choice
Third Choice
User Name
Real Name
Networks
A huge list (ignore it) to the left in a window box and:
+ Add
- Remove
Edit
Sort
4) Click +Add.
A new choice will pop into the server window that says: New Network.
Name the New Network: NWN2 Chat
5) Now click Edit.
If you clicked Edit with NWN2 Chat highlighted, you should see a window that comes up that at the top says:
XChat: Edit NWN2 Chat
6) There are 3 (three) sections to this box. Servers for NWN2 Chat; Your Details; and Connecting.
7) In Servers for NWN2 Chat you will have to click +Add. When you do, you should see a new indicator that says:
newserver/6667
Now click Edit without doing anything else.
8) The title newserver/6667 will highlight to allow you to input the important details of the server name and port address. This should be: irc.nwn2source.net/6667 exactly as you see it here.
9) Pretty much leave the rest alone except for down at the Connecting section where you will add, where it says: Favorite Channels, the chat channel: #nwn2cr again exactly as you see it here.
That should get you there once all that's done and you Close that window box.
If this doesn't work for anyone using XChat, please let me know, because I don't consider myself an IRC guru by any stretch and I log onto the IRC all the time. (which might not be the strongest incentive to go there when I get going.)

I tend to login at least once or twice a day at odd intervals. I have not found the site down except one time in the last year or so. And in the last few days, my IRC chat logs verify that it's up. In fact, before you read this message I can tell you I just logged in and it's up.

Okay so the server is
irc.nwn2source.net
I get there, and connect, it runs a list of rules and other info, I type "testing" and it says* You are not on a channel.
I then get really angry and throw peanuts at the screen and jump around like a caveman striking things with a club.
I rebuild my computer from flint and other scraps and then type this message...

You have to enter a channel.
The server is
irc.nwn2source.net
the channel is
#nwn2cr or nwn2cr
( a server can host lots of channels, you also can usually get a listing of what is available via whatever software you are using, some of them make this easier than others )
