Sorry for my lack of info, but what is an Obsidan game doing on the BioWare Network?

Well my boxset has the BioWare logo on it.

They are moving the old forums here and there was a NWN2 forum.

While NwN2 is an Obsidian game, BioWare made the original NwN 1 game. When teh time came to make NwN2, Obsidian chose to keep their forums here since the NwN community already existed here.

Now that we are closing the Legacy forums, I thought it unfair to leave the NwN2 fans without any forums anyplace, so I moved them here. :)

A big thank you to Bioware for still supporting the NWN and NWN2 communities!

This is much, much appreciated.

I wouldn't mind an Icewind Dale 1/2 forum section too. I know those are Black Isle (now Obsidian?) games too but I think the kinship there with BG is strong enough to consider it.
Although I don't know how many others would be interested in it.

I think the original idea was especially keeping the builders/multiplayer/DM/guilds etc. of both games close together and to prevent splitting up the community. I still know a lot of people who hop back and forth between the two games, build for both or use content from one in the other. Having both forums close together is an immense help there.

You should have asked Obsidian before creating these..  Years ago the community was relatively homogenous and strife free, such is not the case now.  I'd prefer to see the NWN2 boards over at Obsidian.  And they might have changed viewpoint as well.

How about we just refrain from the strife to begin with, it does take 2. It's time for a fresh start. Keep things positive, focus on what we do well in NWN2 and not how other games are bad. Don't matter where we are. Besides i'd much rather be in a place with a lot of people active, might just give NWN and NWN2 a shot in the arm.

I always liked the decission of Obsidian to keep the NWN community in one place. As stated above, there are a lot of people working on both games, and you can often find a useful trick (especially in the scripting sections) on the NWN1 board if you're stuck in NWN2 - or the other way around. I'm all for keeping the two close together.

Does it really matter where the forums are? I don't really much care and this place seems as good as any.

All I want is to be able to have access to old posts, either via a searchable forum online or via download. I'd actually prefer the latter so we don't have to worry about future corporate decisions affecting access once again.

I still haven't heard a satisfactory answer in this respect. Surely this was discussed BEFORE the change was announced. Why must we always receive nebulous answers? We're not idiots. Really, we're not. Can you give us more details of your plans regarding the OLD POSTS please?

Hi Casa.

Sure it does... Obsidian is the one who's actually working on the game and, up til the lawsuit, the next patch. I'd prefer a direct correspondence.

Well there is a difference between mattering to individuals and how it affects the community. I'd say we are much better off as a community being near other games rather than being isolated. And while many i am sure would want things otherwise, i see this being a way to help this community grow - despite the age, even NWN1 is still a viable and fun option which can give those new fangled games a run for their money.

Obviously there are many who disagree, but being open and a smaller piece of a bigger pie will help us get new players, and keep innovating, and yes competing with things like dragon age, mass effect and other new games.

If on the other hand, this forum is off on the board of a company much smaller than EA, we will feel much better since we will not have to deal with other games or other points of view. In a way we will have the whole pie and be the biggest thing in our neck of the woods. The proverbial kings of the rural village.

But given the choice of the whole pie, or a slice, well it's often that you find that you get more actual pie if you are a small slice of a really big pie than if you happen to have the whole pie. And this community here seems like it is going to be a really big pie -- i already am seeing posts from folks who left NWN2 for dragon age being posted here.

And not to mention, last i looked obsidian has a forum too, no reason we can't be in both places, but the way this working i think if that happened many would think NWN2 just shut down. Let's see what happens, the fact is where we are does not matter in the least, the community is not some forum software, it's us.

One thing I'd like to point out is that Obsidian's forum site actually linked people to the NWN2 forums here; they, like Bioware, felt that it was better to have NWN2 hosted where there was already a strong D&D gaming community, rather than have us on two different sites. In fact, the MP side actually uses your (old forum) Bioware login data as part of the authentication process.

Again, that was then. And I'm sure we all remember the endless complaints about early stages of NWN2... the bugs, impossible multiplayer, dm client, et cetera. If anything, they were probably relieved at not hosting the forums. Now, with NWN2 at a much advanced stage, and a much better game, it would be a different sort of dialogue, though with a full plate of games on the horizon one has to wonder how much manpower they can devote to future patches.

Of course, maybe they don't care either and would prefer to have the boards here. But someone from Obsidian should be making that decision, as it's their game, and that's my main point

Well I for one, am going to make sure that any fractious and contentious "this should be somewhere else" sort of discussion is stomped out and eradicated.

Drewski, these forums are new to all of us. How about let's be more forward looking and progressive, hmm? We don't need this sort of discussion. It's a pointless waste of time. The choice has been made for us and looking back in regret or fuming about it changes nothing.

What it does do, however, is simply continue to keep the emotions raw and unhealing. So, from that perspective, spray on some Bacteen, put on a Band-Aid and start healing already. Get over it.

I don't like this new forum, it didn't let me post so here I have to type it out again. :(

Anyway, the essence of what I tried to say is that NWN1 and 2 should be in the same place, because it's quite frankly ridiculous to split them up when they're practically the same game.
