No cookies required. We're still around, and the topic comes up from time to time. My bittersweet line for people who ask if they'll see a Jade 2 is that they're kind of seeing it now, in the systems and advances of our current titles. Because a boatload of features were prototyped for Jade related... things. Interrupt in ME, interactive banter and other conversation systems in DAI, and a bunch of others are the results of Jade investigations in various guises.
So it lives on in a way. And you never say never in this business.
Definitely bittersweet, but also true. It really saddens me that there are Bioware fans who don't even know this game existed. Even though JE wasn't Bioware's first title I still think of it as your flagship since it was the first original IP the company made. It improved the elements of KoTOR's dialogue system and introduced an action based combat element that I still have fun with to this day. Everything your modern games enjoy, you are right... a lot of it is owed to JE.
I'm glad it still comes up from time to time at your offices. And I'm also realistic in the sense I understand ME / DA are huge franchises that have gotten more attention and therefore more push by those who make the decisions. But I'll also admit that I wasn't happy hearing ME:Next was placed into production while JE continues to sit on the shelf. Looking forward to ME:N, but truthfully would rather have JE:Next.
I almost wish JE had been delayed and revamped into a (then) next-gen game. The game got released at the tail end of the Xbox's life cycle. Something else I figured played a role in no planned sequels were that martial arts films were at their peek during that brief resurgence in mainstream popularity that the early to mid 2000s enjoyed (when JE was being made). That sort of died down in the years after JE released (from mainstream).
Maybe a lot of factors just didn't add up for a sequel. But it is sorely missed by those of us who were brought to your company in those days. And I think it could capture new fans easily (especially now days - Bioware has a much larger following now). Just base it a far enough distance in the future and bill it with a subtitle instead of a number (seems to be the new trend, and it makes sense given how new gamers arrive every year).
Hopefully one day. And I'll never say never.
Even if I'm too old and sick to be able to play it by the time it comes out, I'll keep the hope!
