I always find it amazing how we rush to judgment on the smallest bits of information. Even those of us who are already sure we are going to buy it. I am looking forward to it, I don't care that I can only play as a human - I actually prefer it. I don't care about a dialog wheel that I have no experience with, all I care about is that it is a good continuation of the Dragon Age. That it explores more of Theda, has some good villains and interesting characters to form relationships with in general all the things a good story has. That's why I'll shell out 60 bucks and play it for hours just like I have Origins and Awakenings, to see where the writers are going to take me with this very interesting saga.

The sequel should play to the first game's strengths, not the least of which were the various origin stories and non-truncated dialogue. Throwing away the best parts in favor of a more streamlined, "cinematic" approach is a sure-fire way to get me to avoid it, at least until it shows up on Steam for 9.99.

Exactly! Dragon Age and KotOR just had very fun and satisfying gameplay, something that is becoming increasingly rarer these days. The combat system doesnt need a revamp.

i thought they we're changing the console's gameplay around, to suit it better. But they we're (for the most part) leaving the pc gameplay alone.
(i play DA on the PC, i love the top-view. reminds me of BG, plus strategy. But, i also like to zoom in when im running around.)

Have you played Mass Effect and seen the dialogue wheel?

The only difference between DA 2's and ME's dialogue wheel is that it has an icon for what tone the VO speaks.

Will it?
With Divinity 2: Flames of Vengeance, Gray Matter, Two Worlds 2, Dungeon Siege 3 (Maybe?), Wiedzmin 2, Fable 3, Hunted: The Demon's Forge, Civilization V, King's Bounty: Crossworlds, Drakensang 2: River of Time (and addon pack) and Fallout: New Vegas coming out, roughly, between now and then? Dragon Age 2 doesn't even have a hope of being purchased by yours truly.

I think OnlyShallow89 took the words out of my mouth. My list has been getting bigger this summer(Fallout: New Vegas, Mafia 2, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Brink, Hunted: The Demon's Forge, Rage, Portal 2, LoZ: Skyward Sword, Dead Space 2, Civilization 5, Medal of Honor, Killzone 3, LittleBigPlanet 2, InFamous 2, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings,Castlevania: Lord of Shadow, Fable 3, Bulletstorm, Crysis 2, etc.). I guess it's a matter of what games I really want at the moment because honestly, even when I first heard Dragon Age 2, I wasn't even thinking of buying on release. I mean, I'll get the game when I can just not immediately after release. Already too many games on my mind right now.

Then why are you on the dragon age boards, with an account, bothering to post a comment, if your not that into the series.

Bioware have never really let me down (unless you count Awakening) but I have always thought that their games could have been much better than they were, the only Bioware game that I thought was truely great was Baldur's Gate 2 and the rest of their games have failed to reach that lofty perch, Dragon Age: Origins was a step in the right direction but now its sequel seems like it is taking a step back in the direction of Mass Effect which in my opinion is the worst game they have made to date.

However I have accepted that Dragon Age 2 will be different and while I dont agree with a lot of the design choices so far I will probably give it a shot (I did enjoy the Mass Effect games dispite their flaws). However I do need to see more information before I decide whether or not I will purchase it.

That's not a valid question (yet I see it almost on a daily basis). Your artificial prerequisites for posting here don't exist.

People can dislike the series and post. People can stick to conversing with other members. People can join groups and chat about random junk. People can frequent the "off topic" section.

And finally, people can like one game but not like its sequel. Your reasons for posting need not apply to ME...or any other.

Reviews will probably most definitely be positive, regardless of how its actually like, Mass Effect 2 is the highest rated game this generation (along with God of War 3), and we all know how that turned out...

All im saying is dont trust revieweres.

Which is why you find non mainstream reveiwers you trust!

There was a BOAT LOAD of bad ME2 reveiws going as low as 3 stars outta 10, but none of them get the mainstream press IGN and Gamespot and what not get!

You think its was any accident that all the mainstream sites that have had their reputations questioned openly by previous employees gave ME2 9.5 and 10 outta 10 and the sites that paid for game themselves (no freebies) and did their own reveiws were on average around 7 stars?

Find a source that reflects YOUR gaming needs, dont trust the big name sites.

which is important so that we know what WE meant by what we're saying. DA:O DIDN'T have that at all. they had to make it obvious if you were being sarcastic or directly cruel (both of which you could and i remember confusing once or twice when mocking/teasing Allistair)

T'is true that this could have been added to the old dialogue system... but meh, i'll live otherwise i'll mod it, easy as pie.

A sequel should expand on what was best about the previous game not remove them in favor of thinge from another series.
People bought and liked the original many want the sequel to work off
and expand on what was presented in the first game not revamp
everything.

Take something completly different like kingdom hearts 2 or metal gear solid 3, 4.  all fantastic sequels because they took the systems from the original game and expanded and finetuned them.  metal gear did not limit its weapons or become a first person shooter because that was a high selling trend. and kingdom hearts did not become more like final fantays 10 because it sold so well for the company and recived critical praise.  in essence that is what bioware seems to have done taken one good game and made it more like another completly different game because its easier and cheaper.  at least thats how it looks based on the infomation so far.

Mass Effect 2. Dumbed down to please the casual gamer... and now they seem to be doing the same to Dragon Age... so no, I WON'T be buying it, if they continue to go in this direction with it! So far all I've heard about it is terrible and it would be no game I would spend even 1€ on!

To answer the question, and ignore whatever everyone else above me wrote, yes I probably will buy it. My prediction is that if the game is streamlined and relatively bug free the reviews by the more populist sources will rate 94 to 88. I'm a little disappointed by the overt and obvious attempt at cloning ME2. I find that slightly irritating. But not enough to discourage a possible purchase. I will not preorder or purchase day one. Not until I can gather somewhat of an accurate picture on the outcome.

I never said that I wasn't into the game. I said that I already have enough games as it is that I'm saving up money for. I've already pre-ordered Mafia 2, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, and Fallout: New Vegas. Besides, it's not like I'm going to buy ALL the games I'm interested in at the moment. I'm not sure if I'll be willing to pay the money.

Also, I have friends here so normally that keeps me busy.

I think if you asked this question a couple of months ago, I would've said DA2 would've been a must-buy for me at release. However, the experience of DA:O has left a really sour taste in my mouth and Bioware games are no longer on my "must-buy" list and moved to the "wait and see" list. This is from someone that has the BG series, NWN, KOTOR, DA, ME and ME2.

While DA:O was an amazing game (I'm still not sure if that or BG2 is my all-time favorite game), the post-release content experience pretty much evaporated all of Bioware's goodwill built through the years. From the bug-ridden mess that was Awakening (oh dear god the silverite mine just stole all my gear!) to DLC that doesn't even work with their own expansions (WK items don't import to Awakening? Seriously???), it's hard to have complete trust that Bioware will deliver a great game with DA2. I think for this game, it'll be wise to wait and see how it fares with both reviewers I trust and word-of-mouth from like-minded gamers.

I will likely not decide till release day. I'm off to an apprehensive start on the whole DA 2 deal. The pros don't outweigh the cons. If anything I'll wait till it's on a serious deep discount, like after DA 3 comes out, hopefully restoring some of the PC character creation options. With the set voiceover even clever modders have an impossible task of implimenting dwarf and elf character options in DA 2. Maybe I'm just crazy but if I play a fantasy game, I don't want to be a human. I have to play at being a human every day of my life, it sucks.

Since the DA games don't seem to have a linear plot, if I don't buy DA 2 and DA 3 returns more towards DA:O, I won't feel as if I missed much. But then again, DA 2 might still somehow be awesome, I just can't see it yet.

Jade Empire and progressively through the Mass Effect series. I didn't bother buying ME2 or DA:O until I rented them first to see if they were playable. ME2 barely is, but I do love the world and want to see the story through. DA:O was shockingly great, but talk of more "dynamic" combat and dialogue wheels is making what was at one point a must buy into another try first, buy later if it's playable (or just try to finish it while renting).
The great thing is that the story finished for my Grey Warden in DA:O, so there is no curiosity about what happens with my character like there was from ME1 to ME2 and therefore I feel no burning need to even try the game if what little information we have is any indication of the direction the game will be going.

I will buy it eventually, though I will wait to see how buggy the game is initially before jumping in head first.  I'm mainly concerned with how many changes they seem to be planning for the game.  I loved DA:O and don't see why they think the series needs the overhaul it seems to be getting.  I just hope that they don't make DA2 feel like Mass Effect with swords.  I loved Mass Effect, but I want the two series' to remain separate.
