Multiple BG2 Installations (on one system):

Rest assured, BG2 does support multiple installs on the same machine. It isn't even that difficult to set up, thankfully. (And there's no need to go messing with the registry.)

Take a look at this tutorial. You can also use the Multi-Install Tool to automate the process of cloning installs. (Although you'll still need to edit the [Alias] section of 'baldur.ini' in the newly created install folder.)
