 Spoilers :
Well, you see my grey warden character, an elf, chose Morrigan over Lelliana (and Zevran I guess). He ended up alone fighting against intelligent darkspawns and I may never know if he found love at the end of his journey...

This being said, there's Lelliana who is a bard with a broken heart and a need to travel. What are the odds that she will meet Joe/Jane Hawke during her travels...and maybe fall in love again ?:wub:

Now the fun part is when joe Hawke tells her that he already loves that young beautiful lonely mother of a dragon god.

Ah, yes this would be interesting. Liliana is one of the characters I think couldn't die in the game. Zevran you could kill so I don't see him in the sequel, but Liliana. Yeah, I could see her maker loving butt and it would definitely be interesting to have her back. I just hope shes got a little more hardened depending on your decisions with her.

On the offchance we do get recurring companions, I would hope that they're not romanceable by Hawke.

You know, it could be worse. Hawke could be the one to free wardens from their curse and you warden would have to thank him for this while watching him kiss lelli... That would hurt !

No. This is a terrible idea.

Nope, she could die (Sacred Ashes quest).

Anyway, I think I'd prefer a romance with a new character.

Nah, I think those companions belong to the Warden, not Hawke. :P

I can't come up with any reasons for any of the lovers in DAO to be in Free Marshes.  Sure, you could shoehorn any character there (and after the Origins ending got boring to the character, she wandered to the Free Marches...).  Presumably Leliana would be dead (Sacred Ashes, one of the endings), in Ferelden still or in Orlais. Morrigan?  Well, Morrigan is basically a cylon, what with glowing red backbone, laser eyes and plan.  She could be anywhere believably, despite DAO endings all put her in Orlais or moving towards Orlais.  Zevran, you'd figure would be in Ferelden or Antiva.  Though I guess he could detour to Free Marches (escape to the anarchical north) before meeting his fate in Antiva later in life.  And then Alistair.  Haha, that would be quite a stretch.  I guess it's possible on the endings where Alistair lives and isn't king, but I don't think Bioware would do that.

In general, I expect new loves for the Hawkster.

Having the old LI's show up as possible LI's for Hawke when no explanation is given as to the Warden's absence is a TERRIBLE idea. Give resolution to the Warden though in some way, shape or form and it might make more sense although still kind of not a great idea, IMO. If they explain away that the Warden died or something, it would seem a bit like a Jaheira scenario in BG2 possibly.

But as far as old companions being in the Free Marches- maybe they are just passing through there en route to other areas or conversely maybe Hawke's travels take him out of the Free Marches- after all, the game takes place over 10 years- thats plenty of time to travel.

Leliana could totally be killed.  You could outright tell her to leave you alone in Lothering, or do a little sum'in sum'in to the Ashes.

I don't see this happening. Bioware has a long history of only bringing back characters who the vast majority ends up having a similar relationship with. For example...

Take Leliana- Players didn't even need to recruit her (I missed her by mistake in my first playthrough), players could romance her, players could harden her, and players could kill her.

Take Oghren- Players had to get him in their group, you couldn't kill him (not really, both very difficult and buggy), and you couldn't romance him.

Thats why we saw Oggy return in Awakening and not fan favorite Leliana.

So even if your warden has rejected Lelliana, Hawke cannot meet her.

What is it with her, why do you want her to forever dwell on the rejection she suffered from the grey warden ? ^^

Wishpig : good point, but still if our DAO saves are taken into account, maybe that means that Bio is ready to take greater risks with DAO2 and involve NPCs that may or may not be dead. For example, I'm pretty sure that for some of us, Anora will be the queen of Ferelden while for others it will be allistair.

I'd rather they not waste time developing romances for characters that are conditional based on whether or not the Grey Warden rejected them. As a casual fling? Sure, maybe. A rejected hardened Leliana could easily fill an Isabella role. Otherwise? No.

I killed Leliana it happens if you defile the ashes and shes unhardened, Killed zevran as well and alistair was close to leaving. Only Sten, Morrigan and Dog were loyal...Oghren was just a drunk.

Then again Morrigan was Dantes lover, Sten his best Friend/Kadan and Dog was,... well his Dog.

morrigan was the only one you couldnt flat out kill
apparently oghren can be "killed", but he was actually just knocked out and joins in awakening anyway, and even he could die at the end of awakening

All of them except for Morrigan could be dead at the end of Origins/Awakening
