Perhaps I'm just not used to them, but I have a number of problems that perhaps can be sorted out.  I certainly hope so if we're expected to use them.

1.  The forums, to me, are clunky, cramped, have a bad format.

2.  Due to the above, tiny text, and poor coloring, they are very unreadable compared to the old forums.

3.  I have not found a way to edit the above.  I hope that I have a choice of a different style.   Is there a way to change the format in my settings?  I have not found one yet.

4.  I have to wade through a bunch of forums that I have no interest in.  Isn't there a way to jump to a section easily?  Better use of subsections, at the very least, could help.  EDIT:  Nevermind...used bookmarks for this.  B)

5.  The new forums waste a lot of space.  It would be nice to be able to see more than a few topics on the screen without having to scroll.  The current setup has topics taking a lot of space with the huge bars, but very tiny writing inside of them.  I would much rather see 30 topics in one screen that are easily discernable than 10 topics that look like a jumbled messith a hodgepodge of font sizes, colors, and almost imperceptible boundary lines.

And finally...

6.  Does this switch affect the accounts used to play NWN2 online?  Our accounts on the old bioware forums were linked to the login accounts.  Is it the same situation here?  Is there any affect on the current accounts used?  Will our old accounts be transferred?

Thanks for any responses.

P.S.  I notice that the forum "NWN2: For the Mac" is not on the new site.  Is that intentional or an oversight?

I can foresee a lot of people that used to hang out on the bioboard forums not coming over here unless they have Dragon Age or Mass Effect 2; a lot of people that were on the DA forums when they were on the other side refused to come over here for exactly the reasons you gave for not liking this site. As for changing the appearance, that is under your Profile entry, though it's probably not going to help much.

Yowza! You're right. It just got worse with the large font because it's even more cluttered! Ouch!

Here's to a smooth as possible transition. Can't play NWN2 anymore unfortunately; a monitor upgrade, without the corresponding hardware upgrade relegates me back to NWN1. Will check in on the NWN2 boards from time to time.

Hmm, I would just downscale the resolution if you play in fullscreen -- you should get equivalent performance.  That's what I do when I play games on the 30" display I've got here (not quite enough horsepower in the GeForce 335M I have to run most things at full res on that).

4.  I have to wade through a bunch of forums that I have no interest in.  Isn't there a way to jump to a section easily?

Seconded. After a few days on here, it has already become a painful user experience.

Inserting HTML anchors on the page above each forum with links to the anchors across the top of the page (or a submenu off the forum navigation) would be a very easy solution for this.

Ok now I see what you meant CJ. I noticed the breadcrumbs at the top of the page which had a link to the NWN2 subsection.

Here's the link for anyone that wants to bookmark it and come straight to the NWN2 forums.

http://social.biowar.../1/subindex/156

That's much better, but it would still be a nice touch to add some simple anchors to the main forums page. :)

Oh, yes. We definitely need more portraits available. Everyone has the same few!

I don't think the change is that different. The main issues are there's more padding(empty space) between items on the new forums and the posts are a sort of light grey text on dark grey background as default rather than white on black.

The text size was easily fixed with Ctrl+Mouse wheel on firefox.

CTRL + Mousewheel works on IE 8 as well as Firefox, and not just on these forums, you will find it works on the Lagacy forums as well as other web sites.

I would like to draw attention to this. It hasn't seen much love recently but perhaps the new crop can expand on it.

I'll second the above points. (1) and (2), though mostly aestetic, are nonetheless pretty big issues to me; using these fora is kinda painful. Plus, there are a couple of other points like the scripting windows (I don't want to have to scroll through loads of text if someone posts a long script) and, as has been mentioned, the portraits. Even the ones we have are horribly stretched because the windows here are square.

After poking around with it a bit more, it looks like there are actually loads of interesting things you can do over here, but there are also other things lacking, like the ability to have multiple sigs, which isn't a big deal, but it was nice. Also, is there any My Topics or equivalent over here? It's going to be a pain to navigate to every topic I've posted in all the time just to see if someone's posted a reply, which they might not have done.

That's really not as good as My Topics from the older forums, though. IN a My Topics section, I kept what I felt were valuable topics that contained information that I could post/link to for others asking for help and information on many different subjects. Sometimes, these threads would 'die' off, though still contain that information. This subscribed thing is only going to notify you when you get a post in the threads you're subscribed to. Not useless, but not the same, either.

Oh well, we're all going to have to adjust. I'm sure we'll figure something out.

OK well not as good, imo, but better than nothing. This new site also seems to keep unlogging me. If I log in on a forum and then try to reply, I have to log in again, and stuff.

This is my fear, too. It'd just be a kick in the teeth to a languishing community. I mean, it looks like there are some cool things you can do here, too, which have the potential to help revitalise the community at a time when a little new energy would do wonders for it (a lot of big projects have just been finished or are likely to be finished soon) but I fear people might see the annoyingly different fora and just get truned right off.

Also it keeps taking the colours off my sig! It's hard enough to put them on in the first place!

Which brings me to another point, everyone is using their own choice of colours. I think we need a "games owned" bit, or we'll have to have an enforced standardization of sig game colours, punishable by feeding to the dire turkeys.

Another thing I don't like is the big space between lines.
Maybe we should look on the bright side, though. There're things like polls and projects here, which I'm interested in trying out.

The My Topics replacement is not an adequate replacement for BioBoards' implementation but I actually find it does precisely what dunniteowl requests (and little else).

Users leaving is not just a concern but a reality, but frankly it would have been a reality regardless of the state of this site. Some people just don't like change. One good thing about this change is the increased exposure which can only help the NWN and NWN2 communities. Here's to hoping we will have a good project section eventually, that will do wonders for the site.

Most BBCode is stripped when switching from the WYSIWYG editor to code input (but is converted more or less right the other way around). For complex BBCode that may need to be applied several times I suggest keeping the whole code+text in a local text file. Additionally, the WYSIWYG editor isn't actually true to the final output so don't rely too much on it.

The spacing is a bug. The quick reply box incorrectly duplicates linebreaks. The standard editor treats linebreaks correctly. It used to be the other way around.

I like the sig games list you have, I just CP'd it off one of Khamals posts. I don't know about colour though I've not worked that out yet.

As to the functionality of the forum I'm getting used to it and I think others will. The way I see it, this is happening, I'm not happy about it but it could do the community some good. Already I see names I have not seen before taking a look and posting. People will leave inevitably but perhaps some new ones will join.

I do want my picture back though Posted Image

Just for the record, I made no requests about linking and My Topics. That was some other smart person. I merely commented on the fact that Subscribed Threads are definitely not the same, nor as useful to someone like me, who has to review a crap load of content posted to glean the 'pearls' of wisdom that, sooner or later, someone else is going to ask about and won't be able to find on their own easily.

If I were to make a request, I would request we have the ability to build a List of My Topics with something more akin to a series of Personal Topics of Interest, where subscribed threads are in one section and Long Term Interest Topics are in another, irrespective of if they get posted to or not over time.

And heck, while I'm fantasizing, I really am going to be lost without the several dozen mostly smart aleck and personally created quotes I have for my siggys. I'm definitely going to have to start keeping a Notepad File open so I can post my snarky quotes as the occasion demands.

Shoot. More work. Maaaaaann!

If you switch the reply view to the code one, you should be able to post coded stuff in.

Another upside, we can also add projects (though not yet under NWN2), polls (somebody vote on my poll!) and change the language to "Buccaneer", me hearties!

Yarr! T'day aren't talk like a pyrate day, be it?
I tried posting with the full reply form and using bbcode (which I am not sure made any real sense at that moment) and with the use of:

and
only got the tags to appear and nothing more.  *(edit: the "and" displayed was wrapped wtih the bbcode tags for 'code', the following is what it looks like if I use "script" tags:)
[nwscript] this is nwscript code tags[/nwscript]
[script]this is script code tags[/script]
[box]this is box code tags[/box] (a WAG experiment)
(end edit)
On the plus side the tags for centering, though not displayed as an option, do work. The tags for setting font size, didn't display as useless code tags, but the size of the font didn't change, either. That could be due to the fact that size="4" could be the default size.

Your results may vary. The NWN/2 Community are probably going to be making some waves around here for years to come. Let's do our best to get the changes we wish, while still being mindful that as long as we're Adding functionality to the site, who's really to complain, right?

The sorting of topics on these forums is rather confusing. On the old forums, a new post on a topic would move that topic to the top of the list. Not so here on these forums. They just appear to be all over the place. Maybe sorted by date created rather than date modified...

Anybody know if there's a setting that controls this sorting behavior? Can I do something about it on my end?

Thanks.
