I feel sorry for Bioware

I liked the old full text style and no VO for the player character.
But now it's going Mass Effect style and putting us in the shoes of one character: Shep-- I mean, Hawke.
(Not bashing Mass Effect I just want Dragon Age to remain Dragon Age)
I should wait for more info before making conclusions, but I suspect this game will dissapoint me.

You do realize that the reason most people are complaining is because Bioware is making decisions that upset the community right?
Upsets part of the community. Not everyone is upset by it. Not even most people. Just a vocal minority. The only reason I even found out people were being babies about this is because I like forums and checked on these ones after the post highlighting the get to know Hawke section of GI. Most people don't post on these forums. Most people who post on these forums will not post if they're content with what's being done.
You can't please everyone. That's a hazard of being a gaming company. I'd be much more displeased with BioWare if they went with the whims of every single whining forumite than if they made a decision that changes a part of the games they make.
The people that aren't upset by it just didn't have as much invested in the game. (atleast the majority, I'm sure theres a few people just more patient than I to hear what Bio has planned)
I've invested quite a bit into it, but I've seen nothing to get upset about.

Maybe this is Bioware's new signature style. I mean changes with a game can equal greatness. Especially with the best elements from Mass Effect.

The best element of Mass Effect should stay with Mass Effect. I am expecting more bad news as more details are revealed, considering what happened to ME2 (Improve = Remove, anyone?)

STOP BEING SO HARSH!!! DA2 was announces less than a week ago and so far all that has been released is half an A4 page of text and 2 screenshots from an alpha build. From this the community seems to have decided the game is going to be terrible! It seems these days that Bioware can't do anything right (in the communities eyes at least) and it's going to reach the point where they're going to ditch there community first approach because it just isn't worth it.
Please just wait until you actually have some info about DA2 before being down on it. I'll offer an example, it's like saying a movie is terrible from looking at 2 pictures from the storyboard and reading the blurb for it in the newspaper.
Your right on one thing here.......they have ditched the community, first, they don't listen to what the community wants and do what they want to do and they think they are so good that everyone will just buy whatever says made from BiOWARE, you think why the community is up in arms is becasue they have already left the people behind for fast and cheap money, it's all about the new age of games, I'am just not going to be the one to buy a ticket just cause it says BiOWARE anymore.

We've heard that there's gonna be a more or less fixed voiced PC, that there will be no real dialogue options but instead the stupid wheel crap from Mass Effect (I like ME1, 2 not so much, but the wheel always bothered me, it's just stupid!!) and that our Warden won't matter... enough for me to be absolutely pissed! I want to play my custom Wardens from DAO, not some fixed character and I don't want that stupid dialogue wheel, that's not RPG like...

So the community means some people but not others? Because there are many happy people too...

And they have a reason to. After Dragon Age, ME 2 came out which completely changed the series, now that page long text had a LOT of damaging information for DA 2 and people are fearing DA 2 will change the series as well. Dont feel sorry for Bioware, feel sorry for Dragon Age, because Biowar may be cr#ping all over the series.

Except that they, well... got rid of that "Origins" bit...
I'm hoping that's the only Improve=Remove bit they've done.

+1
If "invested" is the same thing as "enraged fanboy" I've never been invested in a game my entire life.

That said, people have the right to voice their personal disagreements with what they've seen. It may only be a little taste, but so far what we have been told is of some significance. I'm personally seeing a game that moves in the opposite direction of what I want. But what I want may not be what sells in a real world marketplace. So, I'll just have to accept that this may not be for me and move on.

I truly do not understand what problem people have with the dialogue wheel. You still get to choose what your character says, so what's the issue?
It's a slight change, ergo people on the forums hate it.

less comfortable to control, paraphrases what youre gonna say which may result in saying something you did not wanted to, no numbers to quickly choose answer, incidents with mouse clicking on different part of wheel, sign that it reminds more and more ass effect, sign that consoles are now prefered platform, takes away all the fun from readying all the possible answers, makes dialogue more bounded, since every part got its purpose, so youll always get "sarcastic" "flirty" "friendly" and whatever kind of answers rather then unique options for each dialogue, wheel is also bounded to full VO which degrades highly role-play part of Dragon Age, and simply doesnt feel natural for hardcore rpg players

Really? Ironic then that several of the complains about Dragon Age 2 are that it's straying too far away from origins.RurouniSaiya-jin wrote...
Don't worry TC. Bioware's very used to this. The original Dragon Age Origins forums was pretty much nothing but people complaining until the game released.

Given how console centric the industry has become e.g. Rainbow 6 Vegas, Oblivion, Fallout 3, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, Dues Ex 2/3, Fear 2, Modern Warfare 2, Bioshock, Xcom (now a shoot things in the face twitch game) the scrutiny is understandable. If the game is good, then everyone complaining for legitimate purposes will shut up, probably.
No.....I won't, they can push thier propaganda all day long and say its DA, but it's no DA, its a spin to bring in more dollors from mainstream idots that don't know a RGP from a SHOOTER.

The people that aren't upset by it just didn't have as much invested in the game.
What do you mean by that?
Aside from the very patient/optimistic folks who are reserving judgement, the majority of the people not upset or atleast concerned about the bulk of the changes are mostly people who didn't spend as much time playing DA:O. (This is mostly directed at the casual market who bought it, played it once and never touched it again mind you) The people who only played the game passingly probably don't care as much about the changes in DA2, because the elements they're interested in (Story, Gameplay etc) will still be adequately represented in DA2.
The elements of DA2 that have kept myself and many others playing through it again and again though are mechanical, so seeing those mechanics changed is far more concerning for me than it would be for someone who doesn't care as much about the mechanics and is more interested in the other elements.
I don't see anything wrong with criticizing Bioware at this point. I think people need to realize that we're not criticizing the game and saying it will be bad (atleast, not seriously) more we're criticizing the design choices that they have made. (That we know about of course) People of course exaggerate, especially when they're upset, but I don't think there's that many people even among those of us who are upset that truly think the game is going to be terrible.
EDIT:
I'm not saying that everyone whose optimistic about the game didn't play it a lot either, but certainly there's no one complaining that didn't play it a lot.

That is a ridiculous statement to make and the exact same crap I've been hearing all over the boards today. "The real fans don't like this." "Only the casual(whatever that means) players like this!" Essentially all these sweeping generalizations that serve nothing more than to stroke the ego of the person posting it.
What I have gathered from all the doomsayers (yourself included) is this:
1) You think you're smarter, more creative, and better gamers all around than the people who either aren't bothered by or *gasp* may like the idea of some of or all of the changes.
2) You think that there are definitions in gaming that do not exist. Such as: "traditional RPG" while I think I understand the basic sentiment of the phrase, ultimately what it comes down to is there really is no cut and dry "traditional" way of doing RPGs; and, if there were, Dragon Age: Origins is not one of them anyway.
3) You seem to think DA:O was a hard game that took strategy and skill to complete. (It did not. It was fun being able to use strategy... you did not need it. Not even on Nightmare)
There's more but I think I've gotten my point across. I'm not trying to turn this into a pissing contest. Point is, there are plenty of people (statistically speaking, it'd be the same amount of people) that are just as invested in this IP as you that like the changes put forward. There are likely also an equal amount that are indifferent to them.
There is nothing wrong with thinking the changes may turn out to be bad. There's nothing wrong with voicing that either. The problem is that most of the people (yourself included) have been summarily bashing people for thinking differently from them and strutting around the forums trying to establish dominance amongst a group that shares a common interest. It's funny how people try to set themselves apart even amongst peers.
