That said, I'd have liked it if the Grey Wardens were as secretive and savage as Duncan was in that scene. After the Joining they become all candy and ponies.

Yes, yes he should. The natural termination point of this should be in Dragon Age 4 where you find him in the town jail and says he locked himself up preemptively.
