How well will BGR handle multiplayer? my brother and i will be playing. If its like the OC, that's fine with us. One PC carries the story. I realize it was meant for single player.

Piratebay? The download will be quick with a torrent.

...you should read about P2P networks. there's no server where you upload the files, you distribute them directly to other clients. therefore there's no initial gain in speed for the first time you upload the files "to the internet". it's only afterwards when dozens of others upload and distribute those files that p2p networks show their strenghts.

in the case of nwn2 with a relatively small community i doubt that there are enough clients with decent upload speed to justify a torrent to bypass servers.

From what I remember about Shallinas answer to this (my ) question it will be more or less identical to the OC, except more buggy because it's so heavily scripted towards the main char.

This is correct. Most variables are stored not as global vars, but as local vars stored on the PC, so it's definitely very SP-oriented. However, basic MP should work, but it's never been tested. Unfortunately, with a project this size, we could only really focus on the SP component. It's good though, I promise! :P

Status update: Parts 1-3 of 6 have been uploaded to the Nexus! I'm hoping, if everything goes well (which, why would it because it hasn't happened so far! :)), I'm hoping BGR will go live around 6pm CST today!

Semper: One major advantage of using a P2P system such as a torrent for a large file is that it hashes the entire file (or set of files) so that there is no possibility of a failure that requires starting everything over again. It breaks the file up into dozens (or hundreds, or thousands depending on the size of the file) of pieces, and each of those pieces is individually requestable by the clients, and able to be retried in case of failure.

This also means that the speed increase you're talking about isn't delayed until people have the full file. Each piece becomes more and more available as people download them (and upload them at the same time).

Well, in that case here's my promise: my wife and me (we share the love for BG, infact we still played the giant Baldur's Gate Trilogy mod in countless versions and variations until very recently) will test this for you. And you'll receive feedback, should you want it. ;)

Sweet! Is there a link so I can mash F5, or will it only be available once its all finished?

LOL. It will be available once it's finished. I have a launch trailer too that will go live, so be on the lookout for that!

until you reached the point of the maximum percentage of distributed files. if there's only a single client sharing a torrent there is no gain in speed until the whole package is shared by multiple clients.

ps: i know that you mean that the clients can download the torrent files parallel to the upload so that the time it takes to upload everything can be used to download alongside. but this was not the intention of the post i referred to. in this post there was the false assumption that a torrent will be fast always.

So? I'm not an expert in the matter (other than having successfully downloaded torrents with few seeds), but all torrents have to start somewhere, no?

Hopefully there's no need for that and the Nexus works, but still.

Edit - This was added after I wrote my post:

OK, no argument from me there, though in my experience, even torrents with few users sharing them often go fast.

Right, I don't mean to say that they're always fast -- my main concern here was in addressing the problem of large uploads having to start over from the beginning in the case of some error during the long upload time.

Anyway, since he's already dealt with the problem, I guess it's fine. :)

Congratulations to all who helped make this possible, a grand task worth sitting back and relaxing from now that it's done.

I've downloaded bg2-794-1.rar twice now & both times I get
"CRC failed in hak\\BgSound.HAK. The file is corrupt"
Has anyone downloaded from Nexus & got it installed yet?

Edit:  Sorry, I never read the bit about renaming the rar's. Image IPB
I could have been playing 2 hours ago.

I'm really sorry about that :(

I'm uploading new files now that don't require the archives to be merged again! Thank you so much for your patience :)

Congratulations, BG:R team! :)

DLing now, hopefully it will be finished when I'm home from work. :)

Sooo looking forward to the first time I see the logo and loading screen on my own computer instead of youtube. :o

Again: great work, thanks for all your hard work over the last years. MUCH appreciated! :)

I've now uploaded brand new installation files that should fix the issue of the file naming (the files are basically completely separate archives).

Thanks for your patience, everyone!

Congrats guys! :D Going to be playing in a bit.

Edit: Later actually. The files, even when renamed, gave me an error. Downloading the new files now. Oh well.

Is this compatible with Tony K's AI mod?

Also, what are the best/preferred UI mods for a 23" 1920x1080 widescreen monitor?

Thanks!

Wrongly named unfortunately. The new files are named Do not download, while the old ones have the do not download label under the link.
