Li was good too. Such a bastard you can really love to hate, and a great actor to play the role of the firm but distantly kind master for twenty years.
Among the companions, my nod goes to Silk Fox. Sure, she's a bit abrasive -- but what can one expect, she's the heir to the throne and her family is almost worshipped in that culture, so it's in fact a miracle that she's as tolerable as she is. I like her attitude of not sitting around as a court flower while her land goes to hell, but instead getting off her ass and DOING something about it.
Honorable mention to Sagacious Zu, whom I never liked until he subverted the traitor-trope and laid down his life for the protagonist -- and then came back to help us again in spirit.

Mine is the Water Dragon. I'm an atheist, but she's a deity I could get behind.I loved her pain, her grace and determination, the way she outplays the Glorious Strategist himself even though she has lost everything. And the Open Palm ending where she bows to her Spirit Monk, who bows her head in turn? Awesome. Best victory cutscene ever IMO -- the following "obligatory cheering crowd" scene just made me roll my eyes.

I think people don't like Sagacious because he's always trying to convince you to run away and talk cowardly, but until the moment you see the scene when your about to die and he saves you. In the end it really didn't matter because you still ended up dieing.

Silk Fox: Elegant, Determined, Resourceful, Is muchos loyal to her father but once he proves that he is not managing the Empire correctly proceeds to fight back instead of whining.
Sun Li: Glorious Strategist, nuff said...
Lu the Prodigy: My Favorite PC.
Notable Minor Characters:
Crimson Khana: Honourable Fighter who came to the Empire to broaden her skills.
Jing Woo: Good guy, who lasted against Lotus Assasins for a long time.
Jian the Iron Fist: Perhaps the ONLY TRUE CLOSED FIST GOOD GUY in the game!!!
and Finally One who deserves a Special Category all on his own:
Sir Roderick Ponce Von Fontlebottom the Magnificent Bastard

Party Member who isn't a romance interest: Hats off to Black Whirlwind and Henpecked Hou. Wild Flower is unique and interesting, and it was fascinating watching her literal inner struggle. Sagacious Zu was a cool guy, especially when he sacrifices his life to save ours. Never used him though because I disagreed with his philosophy most of the time. That and he didn't really add much to the conversations...or maybe he did but I didn't use him enough to find out.
Romance option: Silk Fox. I like Dawn Star, but not as much as Silk Fox for one good reason. Dawn Star comes to me often and discusses her worries, and wants to know what to do. Silk Fox recognizes that something has to get done, and not only that, gets off her royal butt and does it. And I usually don't play girls so I can't say Sky makes a decent romance option. I'm a guy and I don't like the whole M Spirit Monk/Sky thing. Just yuck.
NPC: Crimson Khana ranks pretty high for her honor and idealism. Aishi the Mournful Blade was cool, and I loved her history and how she developed a conscience, wanting to atone and kill the man who had no remorse or pity for their murder. Just ambition.
Enemies: I know Death's Hand can join the party, but it happens so late in the game that you can only use him for one level, and the only way to keep him is to bind the souls of your followers. Because of this fact, and the fact that he is the face of the enemy up until near the end, that I put him this category.
And Master Li, the Glorious Strategist. The best villain I've ever had to go up against. Although I am quite curious how he would hear if I was going off his plan and kill me if I did, while he is captured by the Emperor. Meh, he likely has agents or something that would pose as an ally and finally kill me. I loved that he took 20 years to form a plan to the last detail, all the while playing the firm but kind master. Who trained me with a flaw.
I also love the fact that there are only two things he did not consider. One-that the Water Dragon would also play his game of chess, using the spirit monk as a pawn, and two-that the pawn grabbed the potential to become the most powerful piece on the board, the queen, and could then choose to be on the Water Dragon's side, on their own side, or even on Master Li's side (third ending.)
And Master Li seems like a genuine follower of the Open Palm. He believes himself to be a hero and not a villain. He outright states that there is no malice in his actions. He is so caught up in trying to make the Empire a better place that he succumbs to tyranny from within. He becomes the oppressor, when all he wants to do is make things right.
