You know, it's funny that you titled the Illasera post "Talking Heads". When I was reading your background post on Weirdo, the Talking Heads song "Punk Lolita" popped into my head. Odd coincidence...
Good luck!

The party has completed the battles/quests in the main cavern of the Underdark. Battles of note:
* trapped souls, lich -- tough fight...the lich went invisible a lot, causing our breaches to fizzle out so to speak. Imoen took massive damage from a fireball of somekind (or maybe sunfire) but everyone lived through the experience.
* Defend gnome village from Balor - we took no chances, lots of buffs/summons, the clerics had 5 bolts of glory to throw at the demon. It fell before we could use them all.
* Vithal the mage -- I always feel gipped helping this guy. With our evil party though, we decided to take matters in our own hands. I know he casts time stop and runs away, so I have to kill him quickly. To that end: 1) True Seeing was running 2) 5 summons, including one that holds enemies 3) Breach cast immediately. This was effective! Edwin now knows time stop, not that he is high enough level to cast it quite yet...
* Mass of elementals - just straight melee was more than enough. Only a few heal potions needed to be used.
* First drow war party - Veene scouted ahead, backed up a short ways and cast Firestorm. It did some nice damage but didn't catch all the drow. It killed 3 of them though, so that was enough to charge them successfully.
* Second drow war party - 5 summons and Veene, the summons being hasted. Veene told them to attack and Veene would backstab, run away and stealth, backstab, etc. the whole fight -- the other party members were taking a break. Was fun.
So now that the cavern is clear of enemies, we will take on the Kua-Toa lair next.

Ashoka has completed the first phase of her stronghold quest. The forest spirit thanked her by enhancing her robe, Force of Nature. It's full stats are now:
15% Resistance to Acid, Cold, and Fire
Blessed while Equipped
NW: The elemental resistance are equivalent to those of offered by Aeger's Hide. The new effect (Blessed while Equipped) partially compensates for Ashoka's low natural strength. The over arching purpose of the robe remains facilitating coherence between Ashoka's portrait, stats, and in game avatar appearance.
Ashoka's current character record and inventory.

Since her last post, Ashoka has destroyed the unnatural creatures in the Druid Grove. While in the area, she purchased 5 Oils of Speed and 5 Potions of Stone Form from Adratha. She intends to stop by the Umar Hills before returning to Athkatla.
Edit: Well that sucked... Ashoka swung by the Umar Hills and was locked out of her cabin. What causes that?
Best,
A.
@Corey- It's good to see Veene get his thieving abilities back. You should have a blast with Cleric buff enchanced backstabs. Enjoy!

Ashoka just completed the Mae'Var's Guild Quest. I'll post on the two major encounters: Rayic Gethras and Mae'Var.
Rayic Gethras.
As with most mages, Ashoka took down Gethras by relying on patience and Elemental Arrows.
Ashoka initially took a shot at Stunning Gethras with a Dart. He saved rolling a 2 so it was clear the Darts were a no-go for this fight. She stowed them and watched Gethras's buffs fire. Here's the list for the curious.

Of course, due to Ashoka's Stealth abilities and the Cloak of Non Detection, those buffs could only serve to lengthen the fray, they couldn't tip the scales in favor of Gethras. He took the central position in the room (presumably to limit Shadow access/maximize AOE coverage) and tried in Web and Wilt the invisible Ashoka.

Had he been a modest man -and therefore slept in a less palacial room- Gethras's chances of survival would have been much better. Remeber to sleep in small rooms mages! Your Web->Wilting-> Sphere of Chaos combo will work a lot better when someone decides to drop by and kill you.

Gethras's Abjuration school weapon defenses went ProMW->ProMW->Improved Mantle. Once those were used up, he went with his Sequencer.

It was time for Ashoka to go to work. She faded, equipped Tuigan loaded with Cold Arrows, and then Summoned Mr. Efreeti. Gethras's Improved Invisibility Pro Fire+Fire Shield Red nullified the Efreeti's spellbook, but he aided in Skin removal nonethless. Ashoka's Cold Arrows foiled his spells and ate through his skins. It was just a matter of time really.

Gethras's Fire Shield Blue wore Mr. Efreeti down. When he reached Badly Injured, Ashoka dialed up the local elemental plane and called for reinforcement.

The Air Elemental got the kill.

Mae'Var
Ashoka took a generous number of buffs before fighting Mae'Var.
NW: I'm pretty much done with skimping on potions and tactical ammo. It rarely saves resources- it just increases risk and ends up costing more later on in the fight when you factor in both consummed and lost potions. Using the right tools for the job typically pays off even if it seems excessive at outset. That was the case here- Ashoka's buffs helped her score a number of Potions of Extra Healing, Potions of Invisibility, and Oils of Speed.
To be honest, I have never given SCS Mae'Var the oportunity to show what he can do. In other installs (with Rogue Rebalancing's Improved Mae'Var for example) he's shown that he can be pretty dangerous when he stows his armor and uses his spells. Someday I'll see what SCS Mae'Var can do I'm sure. But this is an assasination by design and I'd just assume do it right when possible. Ashoka was able: Backstab-> Potion of Firebreath. It was a shame her opening backstab was a dud- the Potion of FIrebreath would have been nice to have.

Against the Assasins, Ashoka used Ras to draw out their Potions of Invisibility and then nixed them. (As an aside, backstabbers really freak me out in SCS. I find them a lot scarier than the mages.)

Upstairs, Ashoka offed the remaining thieves with Mr. Efreeti by her side. They make a good team.

Fin!
Windspear Hills will be next.
Best,
A.
Btw. I think it's time to give my install a spurce up. I had set this one up for Solo No-Reload play immediately following a 4 year break. The rust is shaking off now though and it's time for more tactical components in SoA. In future runs, I'll definitely add Increased Staying Power for Dragons, Improved Shade Lord, and Improved Torgal. I'm considering Rogue Rebalancing Mae'Var as well assuming there is no conflict with SCS there.

The party has successfully cleared out Kua-Toa lair, Beholders lair, and Illthid City.
* Kua-Toa Lair- won't lie, most of the work here was done by summons. Veene tried to get a few backstabs in but was tough since Kua-Toas see through invisibility. The demon knights were cleanly defeated. I find that buffing to the max against them really helps to insure no losses. No one even got level drained, which I was suprised about. A demon knight's morale even broke, which I don't recall seeing before. Jaheira got the strength belt. No one can use the nice 2H sword. Thinking ahead, Sarevok could make good use of it, but not sure who I would take out. It would probably be Imoen, as Edwin has enough spells for two wizards.
* Beholders Lair - I knew Jaheira with the cloak of mirroring and Korgan with the shield of balduran could duo most of the lair, however, the most difficult fight is actually the first one here, as the entire party must come. We buffed to the max with spells like death ward/protection from petrification on Veene. Fortunately the party destroyed the Elder Orb and his buddy without casualty. The party took down the drow fighting a beholder, then Jaheira and Korgan mopped up the rest of the lair. Edwin's animate dead now can create skeletal warriors, but it's pretty unnecessary as Viconia and Veene can already do that.
* Illithid City - unlike my recent all-paladin run, this party is actually pretty intelligent, so they didn't need to use very many potions of genius here. Edwin got use his new spell sequencer (2x flame arrow, magic missiles). It coudn't quite kill the Ogre Jailer, but another magic missiles plus the party's dps took him down. Man that ogre has a lot of HP...For the initial small groups of Illithids, the party just cast chaotic commands on everyone and charged. This was effective. We charmed an illithid to open that first door. For the next big groups of illithids/umber hulks we used summons/ranged fire/death spell. And for one, Veene somehow laid down 3 snares. I'm totally shocked at that because his set trap % is only 15! Against the Elder Brain enemies we also used the death spell -- the brain itself dies to it, so that made clearing that part pretty easy. We made sure to get that special fire ring. The abiliites are nice but I like it's static ability (+50% fire resistance).
Next up is Ust Natha. By the way, my plan is NOT to return the eggs to Adalon - we want to make that special armor for Viconia so she can be our mage killer. We intend to fight Adalon once we no longer need the drow illusions (plus we want to buy some stuff from the drow merchants), which is why we have 6x cold resistance scrolls. One run I did Imoen soloed Adalon but it took like 900 years (read: like 30 min. real time!), so with a full party hopefully that won't happen.

You usually have no more than 72 hours to go to the cabin after a summons for the next part of the Ranger Stronghold quest. Did you take longer than that to return after Delon asked you to deal with the Orcs?

Ashoka has completed the Windspear Hills Quest. Firkraag yet lives, but his days are numbered: Ashoka got enough recon done to work out her plan of attack. I'll post more on the quest soon. For now, just a couple notes on Firkraag.
I have never "fought" the SCS version of Firkraag (Alesia Endless Mazed him, Alastria ate his brain, neither really count as "fights"). I buffed up Ashoka and sent her in just to get a look at him. Here are some of the things she learned.
1) The "poetic justice kill" (Wisdom draining him to death with Kachiko's) definitely seems possible. Ashoka very nearly killed him in half a round before he had a chance to react during her recon mission. She buffed up, went Doom and then started decking him at 5 APR. She got him to fail his save once before Doom hit him. He made hisMagic Resistance check against Doom and then rolled a 3 against Kachiko's. Had he failed his MR check, or rolled a 2 instead of a 3, he'd be dead now: his Wisdom is 3 and Kachiko's drains 2 points on a failed save.
2) He has Remove in his opening Trigger so Ashoka needs to layer rather than pre-buff her potions. He also said "Manos Potentis" a bunch of times though Ashoka ran out of casting range before he finished- not sure if he was trying to take down MSD or toss Remove again.
3) He is fracking fast with his Haste spell active (though he can't match Oil of Speed + Boots of Speed). His Haste should be dispelled.
4) To be safe, Ashoka should wait untill she has Hardiness and the Defender.
More on the quest soon.
Best,
A.

Ashoka felt pretty bad for who ever implemented Frikraag's tactical defenses at the pleasure palace- the guy was clearly getting fired after the fiascos he orchestrated...
Have a crack squad of Kamikaze Kobolds charge and then let a Rhashasa finish the intruders off in melee!
Sounds good. Until someone stealths in, backstabs the Rhakshasa, and then bemusedly observes while the over-zealous Kamikaze Kobolds finish the job...

Set up tightly locked barriers and then let our best Orcish Archers riddle our foes with arrows!
Sounds good too. Until someone shows up with the Reflection Shield and a Throwing Axe. The Orcs died yelling "Where's the key! Find the key!"

(Speaking of keys)...How should we defend that?... A mob of Ancient and Elder Vampires!
Impressive huh? Untill...you guessed it: Pro Undead and Azuredge...

After all the brilliant tactical ploys standing between intruders and Firkraag's super-secret disco-dance floor, surely no one will make it to the inner reaches. But if they do, they'll meet the mighty Tazok!
Sounds good huh? Actually no- that one really doesn't sound good. Tazok was always a slow footed, slow bladed pushover...

And the grand finale! The fearsome mage Conster as the last barrier!
The fearsome mage failed his save against Ashoka's opening Dart of Stunning. Frozen, he was skinned and chunked.

Yeah. Someone is checking the want adds now...Either that, or burnt to a crisp...
Samia
The Samia fight was the most enjoyable part of the quest.
The Cleric declared: "I am a servant of the gods! You cannot hide!"

To which Ashoka replied: "I'm a force of nature with a rockin' BG1 item. You'll never see me!"

Akae got it next.

Followed by Samia.

Kind of forgot about Feric Ironblade...That was a misstep. Once Ashoka noticed him he was drawn out with Ras and finished with Belm.

Chak fell to Kachiko's + Belm. Ashoka is starting to dual-wield a bit now.

Kaol was taken down by Arrows of Ice while Mr. Efreeti and the Air Elemental looked on.

Fin!
Ashoka is now headed to Athkatla. She intends to do some shopping before taking on Bodhi's Guild.
Best,
A.

The party is no longer known as "The Summoners", for reason which will soon become clear. It was time to do the Ust Natha quests. First, though, we had to talk to Adalon. As we did, Viconia says this won't work (our relationship) and insists on leaving. I thought about it real hard, but from a ROLEPLAYING point of view I would not be pushy - the only people I want helping me are those that want to be with me. So I told her she could go with my blessing, and she did in fact leave. Veene is very soon going to be as good as Viconia was (or better really, since he has 20 Wisdom). This also frees up a slot for Sarevok once we get into ToB.
When trying to rescue Phaere there's that enemy party in the way. Veene scouted and directed the summons to attack. They couldn't quite finish the job so we sent another batch, who were also dispatched. Veene cast a firestorm which killed a few, then the party charged the survivors when that dissipated.
As for rescuing Phaere -- I only had 2 chaotic commands. I put those on Imoen and Edwin, so that they can be pretty sure they will get their death spells off (the entire ambush counts as summoned creatures). Veene got INT drained once, then victory.
We did the good routes for most of the Ust Natha quests. Then at the very end, I got an option to request the demon give me a great magic item for the eggs -- in all my run throughs I have NEVER done that. I decided I wanted to find out and gave him the eggs, knowing I would have to deal with Adalon. He gave me this. Not sure if this was worth it or not (especially with no halberd users in the group)...
We ran to the entrance to Adalon's lair, and then via scroll, put protection from cold on every party member. We then entered. We then summoned our very best summons, did usual buffs, and charged. Edwin opened the fight with a lower magic resist. We threw everything we could at her, but she didn't get damaged for quite a while. Fortunatly the summons stayed alive for a while. Korgan tanked well as well. We did have to RoR heal a few times. Veene got targeted and ran to the entrance using his sling most of the time. At a key moment of the battle THIS happened. Yep, Jaheira got chunked. Drats. I want druid spells, so guess will have to recruit Cernd when we get out of here. We intensify the pressure, Edwin in particular pumping Adalon with magic missiles. She eventually got mad and started to go after him, but then a final set of magic missiles finished her.
We ran out the Underdark, battling many drow and Kua-Toa re-spawns to escape. We talk to Elhan, rest, and ponder our next move. Probaly will do the druid grove to pick up Cernd. Then Copper Coronet to pick up Minsc, who will just stand-in until Sarevok can join us.

It actually might be easier to diagnose if you tell me the sequence of events leading up to poor Ashoka finding the boarded up cabin. Please include game time between events, if you happen to recall. You are running a fairly minimal install, so I'm pretty sure you should be getting vanilla scripting for this sequence.
edit: Just to double check, can you confirm that you did not give the youths at Imnesvale any swords or ale?

The area blindness ability of Blackmist is pretty interesting. It is the second best way to cause mass blindness in BG2 after Nature's Beauty. Greater Malison followed by Blackmist Blindness is a very effective tactic, since few enemies are immune to blindness. Requires G3 fixpack to work properly, as vanilla was bugged to affect only the targetted creature.

Here was the sequence.
1) Complete phase 1 of the quest. Take a nap in the Cabin.
2) Go to the Druid Grove. Kill some trolls, Buy some potions.
3) Come back to the Umar Hills, see Delon "busily" walk past, and find the Cabin boarded up.
That's pretty much the whole sequence.
I'm not sure about game time really. She rested a few times in the grove= not sure how many exactly.
edit: Just to double check, can you confirm that you did not give the youths at Imnesvale any swords or ale?
No. Ashoka did not give the youth of Immesvale swords or ale. She did give them LSD, blindfolds, and hand grenades though. Maybe that has something to do with it...

After Firkraag fired the guy who came up with the Kamikaze Kobold thing and the locked in Orc Archers, he hired a tactical genius. Genius I say.
This guy rigged it so that the game hard crashes to the desktop every time Ashoka steps onto the dance floor. That works...
So, it looks like the Wyrm is going to live. I'm assuming this has something to do with my decision to have Ashoka futz around with him and then leave.
Oh well. I'll no what to do (and not do) next time.

@Alesia -- sorry to hear about your ranger and Firkraag troubles.
So as discussed earlier, the party headed to the druid grove and picked up Cernd. We got his spells memorized, rested and headed to the slums. Cernd met an old friend, who gave an update on his wife. Cernd wanted us to head to Waukeen's Promenade before picking up Minsc, so we did.
This triggered the Githyanki ambush. Korgan tanked great as always. The wild mage kept targeting Veene with magic, but thanks to Veene's cloak of mirroring the wild mage accomplished nothing. As it turned out the new guy (Cernd) was a big help here, he called 2 call lightnings. Edwin and Imoen fired off lots of magic missiles. We summoned a few summons for distraction and success. We have no intention of forging the silver sword, but our gold is really low. The potions can help as well. We need the experience as well, since Cernd is quite a bit behind everyone.
We eventually chat with Fellicia and she tells us that Cernd's wife is dead and where his son is. We got to the guy's place, and the battle took like 3 seconds. Think all the elemental damage gave a lot of the problems to the mage. There was a lich too, but the lich chickened out. Cernd took his kid to the grove, so went there to pick him up - again. Finally we get to the Copper Coronet and pick up Minsc. We give him the skullcrusher and belm -- he gets 4 attacks per round. So does Korgan with stonefire and frostreaver. The front two guys are just devastating.
Now that we got our party we did a few things:
* got the 200k experience for Yoshimo's heart
* Found the guy in red and took down his kidnapper buddies. Edwin said we should post a ransom ourselves, but Edwin our reputation is just average and we still got one big purchase left (robe of vecna) -- getting our reputation lower will cost us even more gold, so no, we let the woman go.
* killed a lich in the bridge district using a protection from undead scroll. We didn't bother looting the kangaxx piece since it's impossible to get the other piece, unable to get the Unseeing Eye quest and all.
* Dealt with the fallen paladins. Edwin was quite excited about slinging spells at the paladins. Cernd's call lightning was again quite useful, especially at his level.
* Forged Gesen's Shorbow for Imoen and Crom Faeyr for Korgan.
* Purchased Robe of Vecna for Edwin
* As it turned out, I realized I forgot to loot the sewer key from Tazok. So we had to travel all the way deep in Firkraag's lair to get it. This wasn't much of a loss, actually because also forgot to loot the area where the horn of blasting is. Remember cash is bad, so all the good loot we can get will help.
After getting the key we headed to the Temple District to use it. The front-liners switched from dual-wield to shields, this way harder for any illithids to hit them as well as they can use their throwing axes. To start, the party sent a batch of summons after the first group. The summons got slaughtered. Veene then crept up and fired a firestorm out of sight (been using this spell a lot this run). This killed a couple then they charged us, but not all of them. This mean the party slaughtered them. Then the party charged, slaughtering the 3 guys left.
Next two groups were dealt with exactly the same. Oh, the whole party is protected by CC by the way. We summoned 5 summons, hasted them sent them forward, the party immediately comes behind them with their ranged weapons AND one of the mages cast a death spell. This cleared all the enemies cleanly.. We picked up the Wand of Wonder, selling this for 15k will help our cash a lot (though it disappeared after getting the robe of vecna).
Our intention is to clear the 3 remaining, new areas, then deal with the Twisted Rune hideout. Then Bodhi and report success to Elhan. I could deal with the first level of Watcher's Keep, I suppose but not anxious to do so with 2 under-stength characters in the party. Doing WK in ToB will be much better as both these party members will get free levels once we enter ToB and be better prepared for it then.
Party Status:
Minsc - level 11 ranger, 100 HP
Korgan - level 19 berserker, 144 HP (he's at 2.844 million experience, he just might get an HLA before Irenicus)
Veene - level 12 thief dualed to level 18 cleric, 80 HP
Imoen - level 7 thief dualed to level 14 mage, 70 HP
Edwin - level 16 conjurer, 61 HP
Cernd - level 12 shapeshifter (I haven't used his shapeshifter abilities at all yet. Might try it once he hits level 13 though, but pretty unnecessary with Minsc and Korgan owning everything)

The Bretheren (levels approx):
Wierdo Gnome Illusionist(18)/Thief(24)
Annakin Human Berserker/Mage (12/24)
Bruce Human Monk(35)
Starria Half-Elf Ranger/Cleric (18/21)
Mazzy Halfling Paladin(29)
Jaheira Half-Elf Fighter/Druid (19/21)
Gromnir's Throne
Wierdo's party didn't rest. She cast Invisibility 10' Radius on the group and they stormed up the stairs like a juggernaught to where Gromnir sat on his throne, arguing with Melissan about Wierdo herself. Then he saw the party and it was all on.
Because they had stormed the tower itself within only a few rounds, the party's buffs were all basically in place. Of note, Wierdo had cast a Wish spell once they had gotten to the lower stairs, and had taken the best option at the time: Hardiness for all party members. It was still active now, at the top and facing Gromnir. However, I needn't have worried as noone in the party was going to take significant damage in this battle.

After a short rant from Gromnir and then things turned violent. The first thing that Wierdo did was to use a Spell Trigger on the Battle Mage: Pierce Magic, Chain Lightning, Breach. Annakin charged in towards Gromnir!

Mazzy used Vailor's Helm to duplicate herself (including Carosymr).
Jaheira and Mazzy's double whipped up a apair of devas, while Starria
cast a quick Doom and joined the fray with Bruce against the three
fighter types coming up the stairs.
Wierdo's spell trigger worked wonderfully, stripping the battle mage of spell and combat protections while zapping him and his mates with the Chain Lightning. Without waiting to watch the impacts of her spells, Wierdo ran back, turned and sizzled Berena Elkan with Acid Arrows. You can see her blurred form hiding at the bottom (below).
Just to be bold and aggravating, Annakin started casting an attack spell right next to Gromnir - who
reacted suitably by trying to thump Anni. Not that this was going to do
any damage to him - what with Mirror Images, Stoneskins etc.
Gromnir's hit on Annakin triggered his Chain Contingency: PfMW, Simulacrum, ADHW. This ADHW finished the battle mage off completely.

Annakin finally got off his 'joker' spell: Time Stop. Some Improved Alacrity, summoning, spells and thumping on Karun the Black eroded his defences. Several of Gromnir's goons lay dead and soon there would be more. Gromnir himself died somewhere amongst all of this, but noone seemed to notice at the time.

Anni finally used Power Word Stun to disable Karun completely. And that was that for Gromnir ands his followers.

Next: Hall of the Fire Giant King

Well, it's time to tie up some loose ends and finish Bodhi once and for all.
After uprising from the Underdark Band cleared some new areas and fought Kruin with some more Gith. Not that we have all that need of Silver Sword, but *you souldn't be so mean, Kruin. it's time to teach you some manners...*:

Then we made it through the Twisted Rune:

and Mind Flayer's Hideout:

For the final confrontation vs Bodhi we decide to book an aid of Drizzt and Shadow Thiefs. Alas Viconia's Fire Storm catch both Drizzt and Arkanis during the fight so they went off in a huff. Aside from that Viconia shined there:

Then we headed to the Temple Ruins to restore Jaheira from vampirism embrace and tied up the one last *loose end* - the Shadow Dragon:

And now, after some *final* shopping/crafting routine, the Band is on a road to the Suldanessellar.
to be continued...

It's a TuTuGUI for EasyTuTu (just GUI)+ restored BG1 Character Animations (ingame avatars animations) from Infinity Animations mod. I use them cos I like'em a lot more then BG2 ones... It's a problem with a dualwield weapons in this case but I rarely use this style as of late - I prefer some nice shield bonuses available and/or quick switch melee<>ranged when needed without digging through inventory every now and then.

Weirdo's run is getting exciting!
You know, it's funny that you titled the Illasera post "Talking Heads". When I was reading your background post on Weirdo, the Talking Heads song "Punk Lolita" popped into my head. Odd coincidence...
Heh, I wonder what music would make good background for thumping fire giants?
Personally, I love the music that plays when you first enter Yaga-Shura's Temple, makes the fight with all the giants feel truly epic...
