Any route you go, if one of you hosting doesn't work, have the other try hosting. For us, only he could successfully host.
I wish I had more technical advice to give on it, but I'm not all that router/network savvy. :B

As mentioned, I may not be the best candidate for multiplayer: I'm playing the Windows version of BG on Mac OS X via Cider, my MacBook Air isn't exactly zippy, and my Internet access is limited to hotel lobbies, coffee shops, and such. On top of that I'm 7 hours east of GMT.
I'm more likely to be an avid reader of a multiplayer run than a participant.

Ashoka is currently in the Marching Mountains.
I'll note that in a desperate attempt to get ToB use of her animal charming abilities, Ashoka Charmed a Deer, a Bear, and a Squierrel en route. This was a profoundly unsatisying experience.
The Deer was first.

Yaga-Shura's soldiers had zero interest in the Deer untill it landed a devestating critical. Of course, then they just whacked it and Ashoka felt all guilty for dragging the thing into this mess...

The Bear was a more formidible ally naturally, but his end was even more troubling.
It was nice to have the bear by her side for this one kill, but there was little time to celebrate.
"You're just not going to make that -2 against Chaos huh?"

Shortly thereafter, Yaga's Mage tagged Black Bear with a Power Word: Sleep, and then nixed him with Meteors.

I have never been more furious with a foe then when this punk mage Power Word: Slept my Bear and then Melfed him to death. It was a serious bummer.
Ashoka has, however, come up with a cunning and subtle plan for revenge which she'll deploy in a future playthrough.
Enter the Squierrel.

The Squierrel was interesting because no matter what it did -and no matter where Ashoka was- Yaga's men refused to attack it. Since it can do damage, and since these fellas don't regenerate, it stands to reason that you should be able to get the Squierel to take out the 2 Gients and that division of Yaga's army. That seems like a suitable way to avenge Black Bear's undignified death.
It would take infinite patience no doubt: the squierrel isn't much of a warrior.

And even worse, it has this annoying habt of wandering off in search of acorns or whatever after you've given it an attack command so you have to constantly goad it into combat ("No! No! No nuts for you! Fight! Fight!"). It may be able to get the job done though. Mayhaps Rangers and Hamsters everwhere will rejoice once more...

Ashoka's inventory and character record heading into the Marching Mountains.

Best,
A.

Ashoka has been getting some practice wisdom draining giants to death at the temple.
It's a totally unreasonable thing to do against the temple blokes (though not as unreasonable as revenge killing an army with a squirrel), but it may be the most efficient way for Ashoka to kill Yaga.
The Elite Fire Giants have the same pertinent stats as Yaga (Save v Death 3, Wisdom 9) and she can do them so long as she refrains from buffing her strength. The problem is that Simmy Ashoka is needed and she's vulnerable since there is no way to spawn her with Roranarch's Horn. We'll see how it goes I guess...

After reading this, I laughed so hard that the neighbourhood dogs started barking! Seriously
When Wierdo's party came through this area, Starria used her Charm Animals ability and got a deer on her side. She was incenced when a yaga Shura cleric used Slay Living on the innocent deer. So eeeeeeevil! Still, it distracted the cleric for a little while.

As well as squirrels I think rats and bats are sometimes ignored by opposition and therefore can be handy allies for gently gnawing their way through even quite tough foes.

Nah. Squirrel is a lover not a fighter. He really just wanted to look for acorns. Ashoka was the one holding a grudge in that scenario.
Black Bear: Death
Ashoka: "No! Black Bear, No!"
Mage: Approaches.
Ashoka: "You bastard! You Melfed my Bear!"
Mage: Chuckles.
Ashoka: "Fine! Laugh all you want. But the next time I come back here, I'm going to kill you -and all of your friends- with a fracking squirrel!"

I'm GMT and on Linux so could be a challenge for me too but would like to give it a shot to at least say I've tried. Have MP'd vanilla BG1 over a LAN years ago, from memory it wasn't a great experience as pause/unpause was controlled by the host. It was OK for melee but more challenging for spells and setting hotkeys for spells was important but I never bothered (still don't).Alesia_BH wrote...

I briefly MP'd SOA a couple of years ago. The router port settings are reasonably easy to set up if you have access to it, probably not the case for hotel lobbies etc.

I play with BGT but at least on our settings (we gave everybody permission to do everything, because we're all RL friends) and any of us can pause at any time.
Slightly on thread topic, I'd like to say I'm following these no reloads but since I don't really want spoilers, I mostly just scan for character stat screenshots to get build ideas, lol! Once I've played through, though, I'll definitely enjoy reading these, I can tell.

I don't really have time to write much at the moment, but I'd like to cover this one in some detail for future reference. They'll be a lot of shots and some concise commentary.
In the approach, Ashoka tested out the Staff of Fire against the Burning Men. Shinny.

Then, thumped the welcoming committee. Letting Ashoka get mobbed by the giants while wearing a robe seems really sketch but it was perfectly safe: AoF+Hardiness+ Horn/Defender+127% Fire Resistance. Just remember to take down those axe wielders first and refresh Hardiness/AoF as needed.

This was Ashoka's first Wisdom drain kill.

It will be harder to execute with Yaga's army around. He may need poison instead.

Dropped the Golems and Trolls, then triggered the Fire Lich/Efreeti/Fell Cat encounter. This one was fun. It might have been a little dodgy if the Fell Cats had gotten on her quicker.
The Fire Lich took his buffs and Chain, then went Time Stop.

I need to stop being lazy about getting Mana- there is no reason to leave it behind. 75% resistance is nice, 95% is better.

Tried to use the PSpray trap on the Mordies. Missed, and just juked them instead.

Let the Fire Lich play with Ras while taking out his Mislead. Wasn't sure which was the Simmy and which was the Mislead untill the guy on the left started doing the twist. The Mislead always seems to be the one on the right.

Fed the Mislead some Azure, and then paid a visit to the real Fire Lich. The Efreeti's were desperate for some qt though, so had to leave the Lich alone for a while. Did make a little progres on his book though with Gessen.

Let me tell you something about these Efreeti's: they really like their fire spells.

For Ashoka, this was a delightful steam treatment. One got an Azure Whirlwind, the other went Gaseous before he could be finished. Left the second Efreet alone, and visited the Lich.
Should have refreshed MSD before approaching the Lich and checking his ProMW status.

I hate Acid Arrows.

(Personal Note: Holy frack! I'm sitting in the dark right now as I post. I was happily typing away when a feral cat literally came out of nowhere and landed on top of me. I nearly had a heart attack!)
The Lich tried some Flame Arrows. Caught them with The Reflex. One got close when Gesen was equipped. Finished with Azuredge.

Ok. That's enough for now. I can hear the cat again. That thing must have drunk an Oil of Speed or something because he is crazy fast...
I think he's chasing a mouse or something and I don't want to get in the middle of their grief again. I'll finish writing in the morning.
Best,
A.

Ashoka didn't bother with then. If you attack Gromnir, you'll be revealed in their detection radius: that's the first part of the trap as mentioned. However, if you remain inviisble, fade and deal with Eler/Berenna, you'll be outside of their detection radius when you pop out.
If you then view the edge where the two carpets meet as a no-go line, you never have to deal with them.
I felt a little uncomfortable doing that because they really should be in call for help range, but one of Ashoka's objectives in this run is to find safe routes for some of my weaker characters. That's what the move was about. Ashoka definitel could have handled them though -admittedly- the could have been a nuisance if they went True Sight rather than Oracle.

Seriously!
I was sitting on a marble stairway at the time and was so freaked that I could have easily chucked my Macbook Air down the stairs. That would have definitely kept Yaga, Sendai, Abazigal and Mel safe!
And in case you are wondering, I have found refuge from the cat now. I'll resume posting on the Temple shortly.

I'll admit to having struggled against Gromnir (even with a party of 6 and reloads), so thanks for that! Actually this entire thread is really helpful -- your Alanis(?) telefield/buff regime was the only way I could get through Ascension endgame, and your use of potion counters has led to a much easier time in my recent run through SCS II.
So don't feel uncomfortable -- it definitely helps the rest of us!

Ok. Ready to resume after that rude interuption...
Once the Fire Lich was dead, Ashoka nixed the straggler Efreeti. Ashoka figured he'd be stunnable, so she tried Smite. The Efreeti instantly activated Gaseous Form. Nice move. Once he flipped back, Ashoka equipped her Darts of Stunning. He vanished.

Nice move, again. But what's your answer to Dragon Slayer: Detect Invisibility-> Darts of Stunning-> Celestial Fury/Belm?

Thought so...
That got Ashoka a level up which is awesome because now she can charm more squirrels.

Btw. Are there squirrels at the siege camp? I bet there are...
Took out the Fell Cats last. Those things scare Ashoka almost as much as feral cats in the dark scare me. Here's why:

Remember Ashoka's soothing steam treatment while facing the Efreetis and Fire Lich? Yeah, well that would have been a barbeque if those fire resistance draining Fell Cats had gotten on her. Seperating the Fell Cats from the others in time and or space is a crucial tactical move for soloists in the Improve Fire Giant Temple.
Popped back to the PPlane, got some Smite replenishing rest, and then triggered the Burning Skull encounter. This was scary since the Fell Cats got on her tis time. Again, seperating those ktties from the others in time or space is key. Alesia went Harp of Pandemonium-> Maze Trap here. Ashoka went Smite.

Not sure what Erinyes was doing there- I expected to see her sooner. Whatever. The Reflex/Charm defense solve her. Ashoks still isn't sure where she is (she bailed before croaking) but she wasn't a threat.
Good timing here. Finished the Fell Cat just before Mr. Personality showed up.

Still, the kitties had gotten a few nips in. A Potion of Fire Resistance got Ashoka back to 75%.

Equipping Ice Star filled in most of the remaining gap.
Once her Fire Resistance came back, Ashoka was free to finish with Gesen.

The vanilla Burning Men/Elemental got Staff of Fire Whirlwinds.

The door is now open. Beren and Brimstones are next.

A.

Smite is a great tactical use ability. You are right though- there are times when it can intefere with damage dealing. Spatial/temporal management of enemies can be more valuable then damage though. And when it is, that's when you use your Smite.
For example, in the case of the Fell Cats, Ashoka had a chance to safely experiement with fighting two at the same the time after the Fire Lich encounter. They were too fast to evade. And even using her damage HLAs, they got her Fire Resistance down before croaking.
Had that happened when the Flaming Skull was around, she could have gotten cooked. Game over.
So, when she encountered the next two in a more dangerous situation (with fire damage casters around) she eschewed damage in favor of tactical management. She sent one of the Fell Cats back to the FAR end of the temple, then she turned and knocked the other one back to a NEAR wall. That kept it close, allowing her to finish it before it recovered from Stun and before the Flaming Skull arrived. The second Fell Cat was then kiled with a range weapon as it raced in and tried to re-engage. Both were dead, and she had conserved a lot of Fire Resistance. She also never had to face the Fell Cats and Fire Casters at the same time which is the only real death trap in that place.
Have fun Smiting your foes Xiz!

A.

Well that was unfun...
I am never letting any of my characters get near the Improved Fire Giant Temple Imix again- not without a 10' pole at least.
Of course, I have a specific 10' pole in mind: the Wave Blade(*). And even with that I might hesitate after what Ashoka just went through.

After never being disabled, and after countering every meaningful stats effect promptly throughout her adventure, I had to watch Ashoka get Panicked, Blinded, Poisoned, and knocked Unconsious all while racing over traps and being pummeled by an Elemental Prince.
It started with the Panic and I still don't know what caused it. Ashoka was basically hanging back and doing some recon on Imix when suddenly -and without any visible spell cast or any entry in the battle log- she freaked. She then raced around though all those traps and had the other status effects layered on her.
She never was in danger of dying really since she was getting massive regen from all the fire and crushing damage, but I have no desire to go through anything remotely like that ever again.
You'd think that when your morning starts with a feral cat flying through the sky and landing on your head, things can only get better. But no, not today...I think I'll wait till tommorrow before sending Ashoka to the Seige Camp. I'll post on the Beren/Brimstone encounter in the eve.
Best,
A.

My fear of the feral cat's curse has subsided and I've decided to move Ashoka along. She just completed the Nyalee battle. Only a couple things worth mentioning here.
First, Ashoka was able to stealth carry a Called Lightning cast on herself into battle.

That makes the spell far more useable. The casting time is way too long for in combat use but it is a perfectly good pre-buff assuming you are willing to sacrifice an MSD.
Second, Ashoka looks pretty disco when she's running Shield and dual-wielding Fury/Belm at night...

As for combat, Nyalee caught a lot of Gessen. Her spells were too slow.

The Ashoka clone equipped the Staff of Striking so Crushing Resistance foiled her.
The Siege Camp awaits...
