So far so good. At least Phobos, Andrastos and Shakti are doing a good job :) Still not a fan of the three thieves, though.

I want to adopt you thieves Enuhal. [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/tongue.png[/smilie]
Perhaps we can split the group in half: I'll run the thieves, and you can keep Phobos, Andrastos, and Shakti. :)

@BBMorti- Why do I see 5 identical shots of Anatole popping a Baby Wyvern with a +1 Arrow? Is that what I am suppose to see or did something funky happen?

Anatole update!

She has been working on some troubles in Umar hills.
Posted Image
It was without big problems since she had brought a few scrolls of protection against undead... She did get a surprice however in that bone golems seemed to not really care about her being protected? I met two of them and both definitely seemed quite able to both see and attack her, which called for a bit of creative positioning.., then Tansherons bow did well enough for taking them down.
Posted Image
Posted Image
The others simply died.
Posted Image
I have been boosting my traps skill since I hit 100 in find traps/lockpick/Hide in shadows.. which gave me a cheesy and easy way to take down the dragon on the way, too. Placed 4 traps on my way past it, killed the shade lord, rested, went down and placed 4 traps more, then a trigger and, yeah

When I got back to sell and stock up on items I noticed that Ribald had another ring of air control available? Does he have them in endless supply or what?..
Posted Image
As shown in the video in my last post I also took down the evil party at a certain inn, the cloak of non detection was way overdue to be honest.. and it was getting very needed at this point.
Video: www.youtube.com/watch (The new youtube links look so odd btw..)

In a recent run I remember that the rune assassins does seem to see right through stealth.. I had prepared some traps upstairs and kept a potion of speed running for the basement of the tanner quest, based on that memory. Seems it saved my hide to do just that as even with cloak of none detection they saw me and I rushed upstairs where the traps and a quick invisibility-->backstab from a ring took them down. The bone golem downstairs died in one hit.. with the backstab multiplier reaching x6 the damage have moved above 200 a single time in one hit.
Posted Image
I freed Viconia!
Posted Image
Then took a trip to the sewers.. One of the places I simply felt I needed the cloak of non detection. A slight buffing and coating the weapon in poison.
Posted Image
So I can safely move in despite the quick cast of true seeing and take out the mage.
Posted Image
Restealth from ring of invisibility, then down goes the archer.
Posted Image
move out of sight to the east, put down two traps with fair distance between them and a fireball from necklase of missiles followed by horn of valhalla summon, drawing them towards the traps and spreading them a little bit.
Posted Image
With them spread it is easy cleaning them up one backstab at a time.
Posted Image
I cleared a mages dungeon, too. Used genie summon and acid arrows on the mage with potions and immunity items at hand should he get a spell off. Emptied the genies spells into the room with random spawns and had placed a few traps with long distance between them.. sadly I have not gotten my first HLA yet so had to use a clairity potion (umber hulk spawns) but with oil of speed and that, it was easy pickings to take them down one at a time as soon as they were spread out a bit..
Posted Image
I would really like to be able to use shield of baldurian and other spells and items by now to feel comfortable going places like deeper into the sewers.. Planar sphere and the bard stronghold both have demons that needs to die which doesn't make me feel all the comfortable. I might find firekrag's dungeon + him one of the most comfortable places to go right now, ironically. =P

Hope you all had a great weekend!
Level 19 assassin currently.

Was hoping to get Loken II through Amn before playing further with the item creation thingymajing(The Lavender Shades met their end in a Basilisk accident). Last time I played Loken II, he killed Sarevok(and nearly died himself) in quite the duel. Having cleared the circus, Mencar & pals as well as freeing Hendak - I felt quite sure of myself as I headed onwards to get my Thief Stronghold.

Rayic Gethras is one hellish character to meet at this point, and after he hit me for only a few points of damage using his Finger of Death, I decided "Hah! Why the other guys think Rayic is any trouble, I will never know. His death spells don't even work on me!" so I decided to save my scroll of Magic Protection and rather just use my Berserk. I managed to take down his stoneskin twice, before his death spell hit me and ended Loken II long journey right there.

I was quite suprised as I sat there, looking at my screen - and from now onwards; I will respect Rayic Gethras. Back to Baldurs Gate 1 then, good luck everyone!

Sorry for your loss, Easymask.

@BBMorti: I'm pretty sure Bone Golems don't count as undead - that's why the scroll doesn't work.
@Alesia_BH: You want to adopt a thief that manages to deal 4 points of damage with a 4x backstab? Well, you can have him ;)
I realize a katana isn't exactly the ideal backstabbing weapon. If I had more experience with thieves and would take my time to properly equip and use them, they would be far more effective. I never even completed a part of the Baldur's Gate Series with a thief as PC.

Though after the things I've seen you do with a bounty hunter, you'd be definetly welcome to play Achilleus :)

Sure. I'll take him. I'm pretty sure I can get him working. :)

When you were gone, I did a solo with a clone of Bioware's Alora. She was abandoned in the Underdark, but she did just fine for herself up to that point. Some of those posts may give you a few ideas for using a low strength unkitted thief.

Though after the things I've seen you do with a bounty hunter, you'd be definetly welcome to play Achilleus :)

Thanks.:)

But a Bounty Hunter, an F/T, and another Thief for simultaneous backstabs. That's a lot of potential fun...

I not really trying to steal your party Enuhal. I'm just suggesting that that half of your crew actually has a really high power ceiling. You may want to explore it. They would need quite a lot of care and attention however- maybe too much in a party of 6.

Best of luck!

A.

@BBMorti- No need to apologize. I was just puzzled really. I was thinking "Huh? That really is the same picture of a Baby Wyvern getting popped wth a +1 Arrow...Is there something important here that I'm missing? Or is BBMorti just dead set on shaming that Baby Wyvern? I'm not sure I get it..."

And by the way: nice work with the Sewers Party. ;)

Sorry to hear about Loken. :(

Rather than leaving with respect for Gethras, I'd suggest remembering that an instakill at -2 is a threat that absolutely needs to be foiled cold.

There are a number of approaches of course. As you may have noticed, my characters typically skip magical armor and import the Claw of the Kazgaroth rather then the Helm of Balduran. Wearing the Claw and a RoP +2 takes 5 off of their Save v. Spells. Ring of Air Control Improved Invisibility takes off another 4. Potions of Stone Form, Potions of Invulnerability, and Potions of Magic Shielding can then be used to lock down any vulnerabilities that might emerge in a battle from say, Malison-> High Penalty Save or Else.

Anyhoo. Best of luck with your next character!

A.

Alessandra has acquired a new sword.

She'll likely swap her Claw for a Ring in her upcoming session.

 Alessandra v. Firkraag

This run was somewhat unique in that Thaxy proved to be more troublesome then Firkraag. That's especially surprising when you consider that Alessandra has innate immunity to Thaxy's breath weapon. But when it comes down to it, Firkraag's sole tactical asset was a limited supply of Acid Arrows and Thaxy's was an unlimited supply of invisiblity. Seen that way, it makes sense that Thaxy took more time.

Firky opened with a Haste + Remove Trigger. That's a fine idea. But Alessandra ran out of the AoE of the Remove and the Haste would not last long.

That's pretty much game over for Firkraag right there...
Posted Image

With an easily foiled breath weapon, no other non-trivial ranged attack, and a movement rate disadvantage, he's basically dead now: he just doesn't know it yet...

You may be wondering what Alessandra is doing here.
Posted Image

Whenever she heard "Manos" she got out of targetting range to protect her buffs.

Then the Axe.
Posted Image

Then Firkraag's Acid Arrows. These were by far his most effective tactical tool. They were countered with Potions of Extra Healing. Shadow Dragon Armor and Pro Acid would have been neater, but pricier.
Posted Image

The Shield Amulet ate his Magic Missles.
Posted Image

Finished him off with Draw on Holy Might-> Dragonslayer just for fun.
Posted Image
Posted Image

Fin!
Posted Image

And now Alessandra has yet another weapons which she can Critical Miss with. Hooray!

@Alesia_BH: You're right, of course - though I am usually not able to use every character at their full potential in a party of 6. I guess my next run will propably be a trio, a duo or a solo game.

Aedan entered the Druid Grove, fighting groups of trolls and spiders with Phobos and Andrastos at the front lines. Some buffs helped with troll hill, but even the giant trolls didn't seem threatening. The group watched a group of trolls kill the druids before taking them out. Trying to test Phobos' abilities, I buffed him with a prot from lightning scroll and a potion of absorption, charging the other druid group. All went well, until his enrage wore off without me noticing - a druid charmed him, and since he couldn't drink any healing potions that way, he was killed by insect plague. No problem, though. Andrastos raised him after the group defeated the remaining druids.

Achilleus' traps killed the Rakshasa. Her allies didn't even spawn, so the still buffed group charged at the Myconids. Cernd killed Faldorn, and all was well.

Back at trademeet, Aedan took care of some Skindancers for Tiris and Undead for the mayor. New Shield and lots of reputation, so we bought pretty much every important item from trademeet, including the dwarven throwing hammer, Ras and a Staff of Striking.

Time to go to De'Arnise keep. After clearing the first level, a buffed group quickly defeated the Yuan-Ti Mage. A dart, thrown by Argus, stunned Glacias, some summons helped tanking the clay golem and Ras did the same for the Iron Golem.

Downstairs, Aedan cleared the next room and had Argus lure away the umber hulks. Summoned some skeletons and buffed the group with the usual things. Torgal was defeated in a few rounds.

With the additional money, Aedan bought Baldurans Shield and the Shield of Reflection and upgraded the Horn.

Next will propably be Mae'Vars Guild and the Sewers.

@Enuhal
I must say, you are a hero of no small stature for playing such a randomized party! Well done so far as well! My best character to brave the trilogy recently fell(Loken II) quite early, and he was a beast, at least in BG1! It's a lot of fun following your hearty group, keep it up friend!

@Alesia
You keep surprising me with your tactical and skillful play, it's pure joy following you - as it has been since I started following/playing in these threads. Well done with Firkraag and the Shadow Dragon!

Introducing PUK’ Darkstar  & A’lisia O'dare  as my newest BG2 attempt.

Posted Image Posted Image

A’lisia is a half-elf Avenger with strong commitment issues (her bg1 adventure started here) whilst PUK’ is a Halfling Diviner & staunch solitarian  (his bg1 adventure started here) these two will form the nexus of my party. About the only thing these two unlikely kindred can agree on is their conjoint friendship with Imoen… I haven’t decided which one will take the centre stage but their sibling rivalry being what it is the discussion is likely to get quite heated.

Adjustments;
PUK’ has his trusty Moonblade & pet ferret (the potion bag was lost in the ambush that fetched him to chateau Icky) … A’lisia is stock standard & scoffs at what she calls his need for a crutch.

I'm just waiting on a certain webpage to come back up but my proposed mod list will be;
Gog BG2 (i.e. no patch)
ToBEx v21
Ascension V1.4.24
G3 Fixpack V7? (I’m not a fan of this mod but it’s been a while so maybe this new version is better)... does anyone have a working link?
Unfinished Business V1.9
SCSii v19 (a fairly lite install with no cheating & nothing with ‘improved’ in its name)
G3 Tweak Pack V9 (only considering this but it will go here if I can find it).
Amber V2.6 (mostly as a romance option for PUK’)

Go here for any G3 downloads. (I'm not sure they have everything, but I think most of it's there.)

Do note that the fixpack is at v9 (which I'd recommend, IIRC there were problems with Azuredge/IMoD in v7). I have played with v9 for a long time and haven't discovered any obvious/serious problems.

@Enuhal- You're right as well of course: it's hard to realize a thief's potential in a party of six. And to be clear, my comments weren't a critique in anyway. I was merely suggesting that your party's "lesser half" may be fun to play around with. :)

Anyhoo. Good luck!

@ Easymask- Thanks for your comments. It's been a fun run to be sure. I'm glad that others are enjoying it as well.

Quick Note on Alessandra's Game:

Alessandra just swung by the Umar Hills to remedy the Temple's lingering Lich infestation. The Liches did a few cute things, Horrid Wilting (Carsomy + Belt of Inertial Barrier + Negative Saves), Stone to Flesh Trigger (Negative Saves), Flame Arrow Sequencer (Reflection Shield) but hey were never a threat

Some may find it interesting that Alessandra found little use for Carsomyr against the Liches. Using its dispel on hit would have meant shrinking the counter window and getting within or very near touch spell casting range. She felt more comfortable hanging back and letting the Deva handle dispel duties. In essence, the attacks went: Deva- Dispel; Alessandra- apply Poison; Deva- MoD, Alessandra- Azuredge. The Liches didn't last long as you might imagine.

Alessandra is now in the Planar Sphere. Her route will likely be Planar Sphere, Athkatla Clean-Up, Unseeing Eye, and then Bodhi. Her (my) plans do tend to change however. We'll just have to see.

Best,

A.

UD1;
Ever since he had that troubling dream 12 weeks ago PUK’ had pictured this place in his minds’ eye, of course then Imoen had always been the one suffering countless torments & PUK’ would get to sweep in at the last second and rescue the damsels in distress… obviously they’d be very grateful to their cuddly hero but the reality of this visitation is turning out to be considerably more distressing. He was starting to think he would die in this nadir or even worse that his visions could somehow be wrong, so when Imoen showed up to release them from their cells he was so overcome that he resolved to show her his true feelings & Kissed her like the hero always does in the bards stories!
As PUK’ sat dazed against the floor of his cell he had the distinct impression that A’lisia was enjoying herself far more than was appropriate for a girl ensnared in the cell of some sicko & was trying to come up with a suitably cutting gibe when Imoen cut through the fog with her usual feminine charm, “You coming or not lover boy?”… not exactly according to plot but PUK’ decided to take what he could get for now & sulk about it later!

I’m up and running…

A special thanks to;
@AnonymousHero; for finding the last link I needed.
@The Cow King; for his terrific installs Guide.

Good luck to you as well ussnorway!

UD2;

@Easymask thanks I’ll probably need some luck… it’s been a while. Hope you have an enjoyable ran yourself m8.

I forgot to declare that PUK’ had his experience cut back from 270116 to a piddling 96393 in order to bring him back into line with Imoen and A’lisia.

We encountered no surprises climbing out of chateau Icky towards the daylight but our joy was cut short as we’ve managed to lose Imoen yet again… it’s almost like fate has something special brewing. Not to worry because PUK’ is a Halfling man of Proud standing & has vowed to once again play the hero for his sister (Imoen had a quit chat with PUK’ in the chateau & has set him straight on the whole GF fantasy) as soon as he gets a decent party. Yoshimo can stay for a while but unfortunately Minsc and Jaheira just don’t fit in.

@BBMorti. I just thought I'd respond to your comment on the Rings of Air Control. In the original game, there was an infinite stack. And while that could feel odd, it could be reconciled with the description that talked of an "army" equipped with the rings.

In subsequent years, G3 decided the infinite stack was an over-sight and made the Ring of Air Control a unique item. I'm personally not sure whether that was neccessary from a strick "fix" point of view. However, the infinite stack at Ribald's was arguably unbalancing. I personally prefer having just one at Ribald's.

If you are inclined to avail yourself of the extra rings, enjoy: they can be a huge boon for a solo Assassin no doubt.

Best,

A.

@Easymask: Why, thank you! Somewhere earlier in this thread, there should be a chapter about my previous run with a randomized party, consisting of a halfling barbarian called Isis with a halfling fighter (Woden), a half-orc bounty hunter (Xochiquetzal), a half-elven totemic druid (Alvis), a half-orc priest of lathander (Padamavati) and a human priest of talos (Priya). They were eventually defeated by Draconis, though.

Aedan and his randomized party survived Mae'Var, the Sewers and the Planar Prison. Detaills later this evening - some of the fights were more interesting, and I made a couple of stupid mistakes (that could have been solved by having my priests learn chaotic commands and being more careful).

Good luck to Easymask and ussnorway!

Well that ended sooner than I had anticipated. The SCS mod surely changes things around, now doesn't it. I missed my last attack(that I thought would kill the slaver wizard, his stoneskin being down and all), and then got struck with a Hold spell. Shortly thereafter this happened:

One thing is certain, I'm going to need some practice if I'm going to get through this challenge with SCS enabled. Sheesh! Back to the old drawing board then, good luck to the rest of you!

Mesden the Elven Fighter/Thief entering the BG 2 no-reload challenge...

I know some of you may be wondering (ok maybe just Grond0) where Vessen is -- well you see, even though Vessen could defeat the BG 2 enemies to date, he could not defeat the laptop overheating. So my laptop (which has his saved game) is in the shop being worked on. The place will likely have to order the fan(s) to fix it, and there's a holiday coming up, so won't have access to it for possibly up to a week. Now you may say but what about the 3 weeks before this happened? Well, uh, I was playing Dragon Age because I saw my wife having fun doing that -- finally beat it on normal (yay).

In any case, on to Mesden. His saved game is on my wife's computer, so we will see how often I get access to that (meaning updates will likely be slow). He is a SOLO Elven Fighter/Thief, Chaotic Good. His Bhaal powers are DUHM (2), Cure Light Wounds, Slow Poison, LMD and Horror (this could come in handy). His stats is STR 18/73 DEX 19 CON 17 INT 11 WIS 10 CHA 8.  This is only 83, but still was happy with the roll, especially that it didn't take long to get this roll - I was anxious to play as it took about 1/2 hour to install everything I needed (BG 2, ToB, official ToB patch and Shadowkeeper so I can have a bag of holding).

Proficiencies:
** long sword
** axes (this is primarily for Azuredge -- I wanted a +3 range weapon I could use with a shield)
** two weapons style

Mods: None
Core Rules
"Gore" on -- NPCs can be chunked, so might lose loot. Party members too, but not planning on having any party members

Adventure to date:
For Chateau Irenicus, I did a lot of hiding in shadows, backstabbing, and if possible, run around corner and hide, and repeat. Otherwise he used his 3 attacks per round to burn down those goblins. I intended to bypass the mephits that guard the genie lamp by being in shadows, but my hiding failed and they saw me. I got promptly stunned, and almost died (thank goodness for my fighter HP) but heal potioned ran outside the "plane" and hid in shadows again. I then went back in, freed the genie, and walked past the mephits, hidden - no need to tempt fate.

For the mephit portals, nearly died again (went unconscious), but woke up with a sliver of life left -- I potioned, ran away potioned again ran back and burned down the portals. I thought it was important not to take these threats lightly so had a haste potion and DUHM active. Eventually all the portals were destroyed.

My find traps is 95, stealth 100 and walk silently 100. Snares at the moment is also 75. Lockpicking is only 25, but I figure being able to pick locks is pretty low priority solo - surviving a bigger priority not being rich. The rest of the place went without incident, though I found it amusing one lock I couldn't pick but I could bash in with DUHM. Oh, and I started with a measly 89,000 experience, since I didn't go through BG 1 in this case.

Selling all the junk in the bag of holding took like 1/2 hour...I then attempted the circus...this went well, mainly to backstabbing the shadows (though the werewolves got quite a few good licks in). As for Kalah himself, that was pretty funny - a single backstab one-shotted him.

Mesen is headed to the slums next...how far will he get on his own? Only time will tell...

Wierdo's Bhaalspawn Bretheren

Sendai's Lair

Having finally defeated Abazigal and her dragon minions, Sendai is probably going to be a pushover.

So the party got themselves ready and proceeded to where Sendai's lair was meant to be (some woods) and check things out Starria tried out her Tracking skill (yes, she wasted a HLA on this!) to find out that some drow have been in the area. Isn't Sendai a drow?

Posted Image

Anyway, Starria decided to use her charms on the local wildlife, but they didn't seem to respond to her. Gee, it is almost as if the animals are not really animals. Weird hey? So Mazzy had a go at Detecting Evil in the area. Surprisingly, the local wildlife seemed to have high magic resistance - which is not a crime but ... weird. Wierdo set a few traps in the hope of catching dinner.

Posted Image

Now, this moose is definitely giving Mazzy the evil eye. Seems like a bit of blood on its chin and a definite growl seems to be coming from the moose.Keep an eye on that one!

Posted Image

Then Bruce noticed something disgusting - evidence of a slaughter that had occured recently. Looks like the woodcutter! But that means the woodcutter we saw is not real! Oh no, it is a trap! Good thing Wierdo was ready. Also a good thing that Bruce is nearly 100% immune to magic, which makes him the perfect foil for beholder-type monsters.

Wierdo and their friends had a great party in the woods, and certainly taught that moose a few things (before it died!).  Starria and Jaheira did the lighting with two Call Lightnings, and a short but tense battle ensued (which Wierdo's party won fairly easily, despite the local wildlife turning into drow and attacking).

Next: More Sendai lair
