Yes, Vessen is still alive -- it's been a few weeks since I played him however. I re-familiarized myself with my party's equipment and spells then proceeded into the planar sphere. The party has done most quests in chapter two, leaving pretty much only the Twisted Rune hide-out, and of course the main quest. Oftentimes, when I come back to a run after a prolonged delay, bad things happen in my first session -- unfortunately this run is no exception.
We talked to the knights of Solomia and opened the door leading to the vicious halflings -- usualy only the melees engage us at first, but for some reason some mages helped - we were basically buffless. The enemy mage opened with mazing Joshua, fearing Hanna, and stunning Paja. Lily meleed the mage, Uriah breached the mage, and Vessen got what few summons he had to distract. Next round both Uriah and Lily get stunned - uh oh. Vessen immediately puts up defensive buffs on himself -- death ward, chaotic commands, protection from fire, while the mage DISINTEGRATES Hanna - this means all her equipment is lost, as well as she can't be resurrected.

This is the stuff permanently lost:
* dragon halberd
* +1 protection ring
* fully charged cloudkill wand
* +4 firetooth crossbow
* 3 AC bracers
* charm helmet
The biggest loss, however was the many 7th-8th level spells she had scribed. She was also easily our most powerful party member, and had the most HP of the party (she had **** in halberds and ** in two hand style in addition to her vast spell repertoire). She will be missed
The battle continued after that, Vessen dispelled the mage's protections and Joshua came out of the maze in time to put the finishing blow on the mage. The damage had been done. We sent summons against the next group of halflings then Vessen used firestorm to finish them off (out of sight).
As for Lavok, Joshua took him down, after being properly protected by buffs from the other party members. The demon turned out to be rather toothless -- I had put massive buffs on Lily - the demon targeted her, managed to hold her, but otherwise couldn't her with all her protections active and it died. We rushed to the engine room -- Tolgerias and his buddy was next. I had Joshua be seen first, then other party members did silence, insect plague, and cloudkill - this proved too much for the cowled wizrads and they were slain. Joshua still had 100 in fire resistance thanks to his fire buff - he took on the fire room, though his fire buff eventually wore off and we had to assist.
Golems were no problem, but 3 of the party members leveled here, so was happy about that. 1/2 way to our HLAs...We reported our success to Lavok, brought him outside and Lily became a level 17 blade. After selling our junk we recruited Nalia to be our arch mage - she is FAR behind the others in levels (she's ony level 9).
Party Status (and line-up):
Joshua - Level 13 human inquisitor, 96 HP
Lily - Level 17 human blade, 78 HP
Paja - Level 14 half-elf druid, 67 HP
Vessen - Level 14 halfling priest of lathander, 76 HP
Nalia - human Level 4 thief > Level 9 mage, 58 HP
Uriah - Elven Level 12 mage / Level 13 thief, 54 HP

Easily a more powerful mage and I doubt your party will be terribly upset when it comes time to kick him for Imoen.

Alessandra just completed the Guard Compound. She was very pleased with how the fight went which means it will be an utterly boring read.
She basically used her standard party fight battle plan here: Illusionary Buffs-> Caromyr Whirlwind (targetting casters and buffs)->Equip Shield, Buff Resistances, Buff AC -> Settle in for the finish. No damage was taken.
Whirlwind 1 took down Sion and Stalman.

Whirlwind 2, Koshi and Olaf.

Settling in for the finish.

Just Ketta now. She's facing a piercing AC in the negative 20s, and 80% Piercing Resistance. Nonetheless, she decided to use her huge stack of invisibility potions and give it a shot. Alessandra indugled Ketta for a while, but it sickened her to see all those perfectly good potions go to waste, so she called in the Deva (and her Invisibility Detection Script) to draw thing to a close.

Fin. But I guess the near death stuff is more exciting isn't it? I suppose I'll have to get Alessandra very nearly killed in a future encounter to compensate for this one...
Best,
A.

Well my party won't complain about any NPC choices, since they are are all PC's...I probably will just send Imoen home...or I could just go 5 man party for a little while and fill it with Imoen...I like that idea actually. I just have to do Aran's tasks and will be on my way to Brynnlaw. Thanks for reminding me...I need to remember to take Yoshimo before I head to spellhold though (200k experience is 200k right?)

Moving down towards the troll mound at the Druid Grove Slider noticed a group of spiders. Decided not to bother with the simmy to start with but backstab one and then use divine might to get rid of the little ones. Even though that ability is supposed to be uninterruptable, it's not, and it was no great surprise when it failed. No problem - activating the RoAC can't be interrupted.
Of course it helps if you have correctly identified the spiders - it was a bit of a shock to the system when Slider suddenly got webbed by a phase spider

And that was the end of that
I actually had a warning I was still half-asleep just before that. Travelling to trademeet Slider was ambushed and didn't notice confusion being cast - he would have failed against that on a 1, which I think was the first time he had needed to save against anything. Should have gone to get some breakfast then!

Glad to see Alessandra making progress. From the look of the screenshot that's an old version of SCS - giant spiders now cast web specifically at an individual. Doesn't make much difference to a solo player, but is a bit easier on a party.Alesia_BH wrote...

Sorry to hear about Slider.
You mentioned that you were going to continue you with him even if he fell. Is that still the plan?

Btw. I'm not sure if you have a tweak that effects Bhaalspawn DUHM, but it my install it's eminently disruptable due to it's full round casting time. I generally consider it unsuitable for use under fire.

It's been a bad morning - text above should have referred to divine wrath, not divine might, i.e. the equivalent to a low-strength sun-fire. This has a casting time of 1 so has a reasonable chance of success, although it does get interrupted quite often. Obviously I wouldn't have relied on it working as a defence against a giant spider if I'd recognised it as such

My Bounty Hunter, Alesia, was actually born from all the discussion at the time about how the kit was the "worst" for ToB. Alora's run had a similar origin. I did a web search for my screen name hoping to find an old post, and stumbled on a discussion of my melee sorceress, Alastria on another forum. Near the bottom of the page someone wrote: "Alora is definitely awful though." Turns out she is nothing of the sort.
Anyhoo. If others enjoy honorifics, they are welcome to them. I'll pass though.

I guess it's possible that I just don't remember it: it has been over 6 years now and that was done with a high fire-power party of 4 (Sorceress (Alanis), Imoen, Aerie, Nalia). It may have just been a yawner.
Btw. Are you using the Oversight Comets?
I had too look it up to be sure, but yes - using Oversight Comets. They ignore magic resistance.(which they are meant to, according to spell description).

With BBMortis Assassin around, my backstabs seem kind of pitiful. I started using the staff of striking a little bit more, though - but didn't get over 80 points of damage.
Aedan, level 16 thief.
Aran's Quests:
The group met Mook and drove away Lassal, and the thieves backstabbed the traitors. Equipped with a protection from undead scroll, Phobos cleared Bodhis crypt, killing all the vampires. He used the reflection shield for grim warder archers. With activated Mirror Image, Lassal was quickly slain, and Bodhi was instantly defeated by traps.
Aedan returned to the docks to report to Aran and upgrade the mace of disruption. Also bought some spellscrolls like improved haste and greater malison.
Windspear Hills:
Outside of the dungeon, Phobos, assisted by ranged weapons, took out some werewolves. He drank a potion and used a green scroll against fire to defeat the Rukh Transmuter and took Shakti and Argus with him to deal with the vampiric mists.
The orc ambush was countered by reflection shield, and the group defeated a couple of golems and hobgoblins before waiting for Phobos to destroy (with another protection from undead scroll) the vampires and other undead with daystar. For Samias labyrinth, Aedan disarmed some traps, and the group took out a beholder, before buffing Phobos again so he'd be immune to fire damage. Taking out the guardians, including the final one was no problem that way.
Samias group was trapped and killed by Achilleus and Argus. The fighter/thief also proved to be useful when instantly killing the greater wolfwere with staff of striking and a 75 damage backstab. For the next one, all thieves had to backstab consecutively, with Aedan being the last.
Aedan and Achilleus also started killing the adamantite golem with firetooth and tansherons while the other ones cleaned up the remaining parts of the area. The group initiated the Tazok-battle with backstabs and a Holy Word, quickly causing the enemy to panic. Set up some traps for Conster, but ended up otiluking him (shouldn't have used special traps), so I had to fight him. He was stunned by celestial rage pretty much instantly, which proved to be his downfall.
Before leaving Athkatla, Shakti learned some more new spells and Aedan bought another Staff of Striking for himself. Then, the group left for Brynnlaw.
The vampires were hunted down by Phobos, once again well protected. Aedan tricked Galvenas guards into drinking the sleeping potion, and the mistress and her mage were quickly defeated. Aedan used his new staff of striking to backstab Perth, being the most successful of the thieves with 80 damage right now.
At the Asylum, Aedan managed to set a trap inside Candlekeep to kill Bhaal. He lost a point of Wisdom. Phobos and Ras tanked some Umber Hulks at the first level, and the barbarian solved some riddles while Aedan picked up some more items. The group fought another greater werewolf and a pitfiend to get new armor for Andrastos, and they entered the next level.
That's it for now. A random fact: Phobos has 45% of the party kills right now, and 48% of the party experience. It's to be expected, though, with him doing some of the fights solo and being generally by far the strongest fighter, since I only use backstab when it's neccessary and not for every hobgoblin I see.

My deepest condolances to Grond0 for his loss - Slider fell to a spider.
Time to focus on ToB myself while I am fairly alert and awake. Every battle in ToB is a tough one so I need to make sure I stay alert and not play tired - when you are tired you make mistakes, and characters die - as I am sure we all know very well.

I am entering Amn yet again, having fought and slain Sarevok in glorious combat!
Introducing(some of you already know him by now!):
Arvan the Wizard Slayer!

And his trusted companion:
Miyuki II the Kensai!

We will of course bring along Minsc on our journey, as he proved himself in many a battle! The last spot in our merry group has not yet been decided - but I do believe Minsc mentioned something about a certain winged elf..?
Onwards then, to fame and glory!

Having saved Hendak and reclaimed the Copper Coronet to the forces of good - the party decided to help a paladin in the Graveyard district with his woes. Shortly thereafter, they decided to go back to the coronet to find one particularly evil murderer suposedly located there.
As they where about to reach their destination, a group of slavers attacked them in an alley! Having gotten word about how easily Verenor II had disposed of a similar group - they felt quite capable in defending themselves. Well, they where quite wrong.

The battle was nothing short of a disaster, and I felt like I was fighting Sarevok and his foul companions all over again. "This is where it ends." Arvan thought to himself at this point, when Minsc fell after Aerie and Miyuki II.

Scavenging the potions from both fallen comrades and enemies, Arvan tried his very best to stay alive. Leaving the loot behind was not an option, as he had no gold left in his bag to replace it. He would need the coin from some of the items his companions where carrying anyways, to be able to purchase help from one of the local clerics.
There would be no surrender this day, and yet again Arvan managed to turn the tables - at the cost of all the healing potions the party had left.

Taking a wrong turn after the battle, Arvan soon found himself doing battle with four very deadly Thugs in the Slums district, almost dying yet again - but was able to hold his ground by fleeing into the church he originally was heading towards, and purchased a heal. The thugs where slain and Minsc was raised from the dead. Back at the coronet, they sold some more of their items - then proceeded to ress Miyuki II and Aerie.
The party now has very few magical items left in their possession, and a mere 200 coins in their bags. Let's hope things get better eventually.

@Easymask - good luck in Amn - casting spirit armor on Kensais help them, but suppose you already knew that. And Yikes about the ambush! Good work making it through...keep at it, you CAN come back. Don't know if you were around when my party of paladins was DEVASTATED by Firkraag - I fled with a sliver of life, no heal potions, rest of the party dead and ALL of my party's valuable equipment (other than what the PC was wearing) I had to leave behind. We recovered in time however, and made it to Melissan, though she took us down.

I would first like to thank both Corey and Enuhal for aiding me greatly in this journey, and their kind words are aiding me greatly in Arvan's endavours!
Alas, we have lost two companions this day - way ahead of their time. They have proven to be quite the warriors both, and have been an asset to Arvan's party that he can never replace. For as the brave companions braved the Umar Hills and eventually faced off against the Shadow Lord himself - Miyuki II the excellent Kensai/Mage perished in battle. Aerie had cast an invisibility spell on Arvan straight after the stun hit, thus sparing him eternity as a Shade.

Shortly thereafter, Minsc would follow her to the great Ice Dragon Berserker Lodge in the heavens.

The fight started out so well, though Arvan and Minsc where stunned, so was the Shade Lord. It would seem that the Shade of Patrick was the one casting the spell - and thus allow Miyuki II and Aerie enough time to slay the Shade Lord. But alas, even though the battle is won - it does not feel like it to neither Arvan nor Aerie.
Minsc and Miyuki II, you will be missed.

On the route to the His Highness Band ran into a horde of bureaucracy clerks - vice-presidents, top managers, simple clerks... Lum Machine level was quite straightforward. The only issue was when Mazzy, after the fight with Demi Lich under Prot from Magic scroll defence, was dominated by Illithid still under Protection effect and began to chase party members so Band were squeezed to fight Illithids whilst trying to outrun Mazzy' exactions. Final level also was pretty uneventful and Aurumach Rilmani gave more troubles than the Final Guardians with his endless Cones of Cold, Prismatic Rays, Death Spells, undispellable shield and other sfuff. The Final Guardians sucked lots of summons but fell in the end pretty quick (we spent much more time to prepare ourselfs both morally and physically...).
His Highness tried to to talk us out of using the Scroll we were given by Orden but we choose to read the Scroll and then fight our way out of that Prison. This fight was even more quick tho He managed to entice a half of our summons on His side. Long story short - here are some shots of those events:

Now grateful Orden and his followers went onto Pilgrimage and Band think to pay visit to Sendai
to be continued...
P.S. Sorry to hear of thy losses, Easymask...

I am sorry to see Slider go down Grond0 I have bad memories of spiders and always tend to fear them maybe a bit too much myself (if that is possible).. In my current run I have not even cleared the spiders nest in the graveyard district, bad memories indeed about those things hehe.
I hope Arvan the wizard slayer will be the one to carve his way deep into the expansion Easymask! Hold in there.. I hope you find clever ways to handle your unfortunate losses
I also look forward to your updates ussnorway
I have just sat down to play a little session with Anatole, the plan is to look into the unseeing eye business.. I picket up a few items and the baldurian shield and it seems on my way there Renal bloodscalp desided I was to lose my guild master position, such impatience.

Alas, after fighting against a most vile rakshasha; Arvan, Anomen, Jan Jansen and Aerie soon followed Minsc and Miyuki II.
The fight did not go well, but hope was still there when Arvan faced off against the foul Mageling creature. Using a sequencer - he hit Arvan with both Web and some other green mist, just as Arvan was about to finish his DUHM and equip Arbane's Sword.

Baldurs Gate 2 is proving to be quite the challenge. Baldurs Gate 1 goes well, with not too many errors - but once I get to amn, it ends all too soon. More practice then, see you back at Candlekeep!
(I was hoping to pick up Keldorn instead of Jan Jansen, as I was about ready to dual class Arvan to thief, just reaching level 10. I was also hoping to brave the way to the Ghoul Lord and get the gauntlets of dexterity for Anomen, as he was to take up Minsc's mantle as tank).
