Condolences, Easymask. Lots of ways to die in BG 2, as you are finding out! Still your run was quite entertaining for the rest of us, so thanks for the attempt!

Anatole had a trip to look into a cult in the sewers!

I like this spot for pulling out shadows from the bridge area after the room where an ambush spawn, makes it a more safe event.
Image IPB

I was glad I did it, too.. since the ambush spawn was hell hounds, and they aparently care very little for none detection stealth..
I summoned up a beserk warrior to give room to land backstabs on them regardless,
Image IPB

Protection from unded scroll was used to take out Two vampire mists in a room ahead, a lich and undead spawns close to lich.
Dragonslayer sword with its useful detect invis was used since they tried to hide.
Image IPB
Image IPB

Shade Lich went down to septuple damage backstab.
Image IPB

Cast of clairvoyance is always useful in places such as this.. :)
Image IPB

The spawns down here didn't seem to be scaled to my level... I got mutated gibberlings and then a weak group of yuan-ti.
Image IPB

Well ok maybe I spoke too fast.. the next groups was definitely scaled. Shield of baldurian and daystar was used here.
Image IPB
Image IPB

The undead area before the beholder lair was solved with oil of speed, daystar and another scroll of protection from undead.
Image IPB
In lich spawns it is not really the lich that is a bother (when you are protected from undead that is!) the greater mummies can not even be hit by daystar, needs higher enchanted weapons.
Image IPB

The beholder groups in the lair was cleared out swiftly.
Image IPB

I played a bit with making a simmy from helmet for the cleric group.. had it summon a skeleton and a fire elemental (won the mental battle) and send it in.
It has been a while since I have been here but do these clerics normally go on an absolute summon spree? I bursted out laughing seeing them all stand there waving their arms calling in more and more summons around the fire elemental. :o
Image IPB
Image IPB
So started taking them out to stop them going overboard =P
Image IPB
Image IPB

The experience came in, in droves and I picked up another time stop trap and evasion from level ups!
Just a few screens of her stats, thief skills and weapon proficienties if anyone should be curious.

Vessen the level 16 halfling Priest of Lathander - adventure continues

So with Nalia's help, we avenged Mook's death, and took care of two shadow thief traitors and their contact. She also helped us in the lair. We fought our way to the mace of disruption. Then we left, picked up the illithium in our chest in the Copper Coronet, and had Cromwell make us the improved mace of disruption (love this weapon). Joshua equipped the shield of grace and the IMoD and we headed back to Bodhi's place. I know I could have had Joshua take down Tanova, properly buffed. However, she might try remove magic and I know she has maze in her repertoire. So we just sent summon after summon after her until she died. Fortunately, at this point Vessen was level 15 so his animate deads brought up skeletal warriors, quite handy against Tanova.

As for the big ambush in the lower level, this was our strategy. Almost no buffs, but Uriah stealthed and opened the door and backed off. Paja then sent in a firestorm in the middle of the room and backed off. The grimwarders advanced, BLOCKING the vampires from attacking us -- this meant the firestorm killed almost all the vampires. We just moved up, mopped up the grimwarders, easy as pie. Lassal makes one last challenge.

We go back upstairs, do protection from evil and charge Lassal. He couldn't put up good resistance. We headed to the coffins next. Uriah laid down 3 snares. We had 5 good summons (skeletal warrior, 2 aeriel servants and 2 fire elemtals). We staked the last Vampire, causing Bodhi to show - Lily and Joshua meleed, and everyone else tried to cast their best direct damage. Bodhi conceded so fast, we couldn't even get our first round of spells off.

We are done with Nalia now. So we headed to Copper Coronet and kicked her out and picked up Yoshimo. We then made a brief stop at Watcher's Keep -- Joshua has ** in bastard sword, I thought there was a really nice one here in the statues. On the first level we loot the book for the ritual, causing the first two statues to go hostile. We had laid down lots of snares before triggering this though...the statues were beat cleanly. And the Foe's Bane was one of the loot! Perfect, just what we are wanting. We left the other statues alone for now, and headed to the docks to report to Aran our success. He says the boat is ready and we set sail...

In Brynnlaw another ambush, but Joshua was using IMoD and Lily using AoP so no level drains. Thinking about it, could have used hold undead from Vessen, but it didn't matter. We helped Ginia and Jason, took down the local brothel operator (easily), and also Joshua soloed Perth the Adept.

We finally make it to the entrance to Spellhold - we asked Yoshimo, hey wouldn't ya like to wear full plate so you have more protection? He said he sure would, so he dualed to level 1 fighter at this point. We enter spellhold and get captured by Irenicus. A strange dream sequence ensues, Vessen sacrifices intelligence, summon 5 strong summons and dealt with Bhaal -- Bhaal had no chance, but was suprised he lost...

Finally the dream ends and we are re-united with Imoen. She joins up and she is the level 13 version! Awesome, she's not far behind the party at all, this is great news. The party clears up the first level of spellhold pretty easily. Against a large mass of umber hulks, we did web x2, fireballs and cloudkill - they couldn't get a hit in.

The party will continue to find their way out of the spellhold maze...

A short update on Anatole the assassin.

After she cleared the eye cult she went to sell off her junk in the promenade and then bought a bounch of level 1 scrolls, friend and shield. She needed them for a little trip around town trying to provoce a bit of conflict with a certain group of cowled mages.

It felt fitting to first provoce them a bit in the ruins Irenicus made.
Image IPB
Image IPB

Not much to say about them, it is always the same group of 4 mages lead by a wimp of a mage that only can cast stoneskin and hit with his staff.. not a big problem to take them out with a bit of item swapping or using for the occational spell they might get off. I mainly backstapped and fooled around with some of my items in my bag of holding for them.

What is great about them is of course the xp and then their good chance for dropping decent scrolls!
Image IPB

Next a trip to the government district to enjoy the... architecture.
Image IPB
Image IPB

The bridge district is a wonderful place to visit if one finds the time.
Image IPB

Innocently I read a scroll in the temple district and things got heated for no reason.. I drank two potions of genious to cast it and they could remove it with a death spell! :crying: Some golem...
Image IPB

Eventually they will have enough and send in their big firepower, two named mages and a third very powerful unnamed mage (lead by a guy with stoneskin and a stick...
Image IPB

They did not manage to get off a time stop so not sure *how* powerful they are but horrid's they have.. I countered with a paladin sword and a potion when it happened.
Image IPB

The last spawn has a chance for even more great scroll to be dropped.. a screen from one of the mages loot here to end the post.
Image IPB

I had hoped for a mordy sword to drop on this little sight seeing but no luck there, still nice rewards overall :wizard:

Cheers

I've never used Oversight Comets, but back in 2005-2006 when we were doing the old Ascension Solo Challenge, a few players used them. Back then, they did Cold/Crushing Damage IIRC which made them handy-dandy against Demons (and more awkward for the player to defend against). Are they doing Cold/Crushing damage in your install?

With BBMortis Assassin around, my backstabs seem kind of pitiful. I started using the staff of striking a little bit more, though - but didn't get over 80 points of damage.

You'll get some good knocks out of the Staff of Striking. Presumably you just have gotten a Critical Hit yet. Alora was able to get into the low hundreds in BG1 using Aule's Staff. Ashoka routinely got into the 150 range using the Staff of Striking even with her Stalker modifier.

Taking a pip in Two-Handed Weapon style will double your critical chance. And just as a refesher if need be. Strength helps, but it won't be multiplied in. Elemental Bonus damage isn't multiplied in either. Fixed bonuses from say, the Gauntlets of Weapons Expertise will be multiplied in and stack atop your roll. Chant, Luck, etc can help you with the rolled portion of your damage.

It will be difficult for your characters to match the max single hit output of a solo Assasin without Bards around. However, your F/T will be able to get excellent average backstab damage by using Critical Strike.

Anyhoo. Continued good hunting to all!

 Alessandra in the Temple District

Alessandra just complete the Unseeing Eye Quest. This went smoothly.

She started off by getting a little practice on the Sewers Beholders. She went with Foebane + Dragon Shield + Helm of Defense + Belt of Inertial Barrier + Boots of Grounding here. That cushioned the damage from the lightning and cause wounds stalks. RoAC, Helm of Defense, Cloak of Displacement, Ring of Gaxx, Claw of the Kazgaroth covered her saves. No Shield of Balduran for Alessandra because Beholders steal it in my install.
Image IPB

Ran into a Yuan-Ti Mage and said: "Congratulations! You've just won yourself a Carsomyr Whirlwind!"
Image IPB

The next batch of Beholders was taken down with Carsomyr rather then the Foebane + Dragon Shield setup. The rest of the items were arranged as before. She liked this better.
Image IPB

Then it was a glorious explosion of undead.
Image IPB

Followed by some deja-vu.

"Wait. Didn't I leave this party in Beregost? Arm the unenchanted Darts! Equip the Girdle of Piercing! Run!"
Image IPB

More undead explosions in Studio 54. Alessandra is starving for chances to put her +4 to damage against Undead to use...
Image IPB

Then it was the Unseeing Eye himself...
Image IPB

If you're thinking: "Wait...Isn't that Ashoka?? Yeah. It is Ashoka. But I didn't take any screenshots of Alessandra kill and she did it exactly the same way. Just imagine a Deva where the Elementals are a Paladin where the Stalker is and that was it...

Vessen the level 17 halfling Priest of Lathander adventure continues...

The party clawed their way out of the spellhold maze. We battled Lonk, mainly to save money -- this was unnecessary (also got Lily killed), as you will see later. We get the crazy mages to join us and we commence the battle vs. Irenicus. We used the arrows of dispelling we found, Joshua was doing true seeing, and everyone that could do magic missiles was in fact doing so. Irenicus fell quickly.

We met up with Saemon Havarien and went with him on his "ship". A few meaningless battles with Desharik's men and some Githyanki, and we found ourselves in the City of Caverns. The battles here were very clean no problems at all (we sided with the King). But I did find out something new - an infinite money trick! Takes advantage of the shark merchant's poor business sense...see below

The shark merchant will buy Carsomyr for 16000 gold...
Image IPB

BUT, he will let me buy it back for 12000 gold!
Image IPB

Which means I can gain 4000 gold repeatedly. This is somewhat in character, as the Sahuagin Royal Court clearly showed themselves to be of limited intelligence, so wouldn't be surprising their merchant is as well. Just curious, but does any one know if fixpack makes the merchant a bit more savvy in his pricing?

In any case, we defeat the prince easily (used a death spell, poor sahuagins didn't have a chance) and made our way to the entrance of the Underdark....

Good luck to the other runs still going...

@ Corey- There are some mods which lock down the Sahuagin infinite gold avenue. I'm not sure whether G3 addressed it. Someone else may be able to comment.

That's one of the things I just have my characters "overlook" in the interest of maintaining balance- though I had, in the past, occasionally let them game him once (but not repeatedly).

Good Hunting!

A.

Btw. Here's a list of the Corefixes in G3. They are intended to realize rather than distrort developer intent. The team often gets confirmation from Gaider before implementing new fixes.

Yeah. I didn't see it on there either. It has almost certainly been raised at one point or another. If they left it alone, they likely concluded it was intentional.

Of course, it's also possible it was addressed but doesn't appear in that list. I'll have Alessandra check if you are curious.

Best,

FYI Alesia: I went to this web site http://gibberli.ipow...k/docs_core.php and I was able to search it and find the infinite gold exploit they call it and apparently it only happens if you have a high charisma character talking to the merchant and the fixpack DOES prevent the player making a profit selling/buying back the same item repeatedly. Apparently the merchant in Suldanessar works the same way in Vanilla.

I must say that I love all the posts that keep filling this thread, they are all so interesting to follow - and I would like to comment them all, but that would just result in me spamming the forums! And we cant have that now can we! ;)

I am entering this challenge yet again(again!) - with three characters that recently slew Sarevok in a battle of epic preportions!

Mods and addons will be the same as the previous failed runs, and I have added a Bag of Holding to ease my inventory problems should they arise!

Allow me to introduce the characters at their current state:

Inarius - The leader of the party, and now a quite decent Conjurer.

Kessler - A steadfast companion and potent Paladin.

Desh - Fighter/Thief of decent skill with both the Short Bow and Long Sword.

Kazim Hazil - And introducing(!): Kazim Hazil, a Dwarven Fighter/Cleric found trapped within Irenicus dungeon!

Absolutley terrified of going anywhere without being fully buffed, the party has made a slow but steady progress after reaching Amn. They cleared the Circus, freed Hendak and actually dared brave the Slaver's Den!

The first fight went quite well, as the party was properly buffed and ready for action. They did not expect the number of enemies present, but quickly adapted and won their first major victory!

Image IPB

The second battle was bound to be more difficult, but Inarius has learned much in his journey - taking advantage of the spell Chaos to achieve victory yet again!

Image IPB

The party is staying at the Copper Coronet for the moment, trying to establish a battle plan for what they will do next. Many a quest can be found in Amn, but also many a villain or even monster!

Good luck everyone, and allow me to buy you a drink should you pass by the Coronet anytime soon!

(I am so terrified of walking around unbuffed, I slip inside buildings just to rebuff if they should fall off. In the Circus, Inarius was hit once by a werewolf through his Mirror Image - wich almost killed him outright! This game is scary!)

According to the Oversight v13 readme, "Comet is now unaffected by magic resistance and the damage it inflicts is crushing, making it no longer a weaker choice than Dragon's Breath for every situation."

I have found that Comet is quite effective in my install, especially the buffet/stun elements (nice chunky damage helps too). Very effective way of upsetting enemies with high magic resistance. The members of Wierdo's band generally use Comet before resorting to Dragon's Breath, but I do rather like the disembodied dragon head that is summoned with the latter spell.

Worth noting here that I also have SCSII v19 installed, and have chosen to "Treat mages' and priests' High-Level Abilities as innate abilities rather than memorisable spells (each may be taken only once)".

This means that each character can only cast Comet or Dragon's Breath or whatever once per day (can't memorise more) and they must still be cast as spells (i.e. not cast instantly like other innate abilities).

 Alessandra, Undead Hunter Update

I'm pleased to report that Alessandra has destroyed Bodhi's Guild and is now ready to leave for Spellhold. I've composed a video compilation of her Chapter 2, 3 adventures. I would have done videos of each of the Chapter 2, 3 quest, however, I couldn't find L7 songs that matched for most of them. I did find one that seems to suit my her 2,3 adventures as a whole though: Pretend We're Dead by L7.

Unfortunately, the song and video are seperate this time which is a pity since events where timed to go along with the song. The saong and video can be played together of course though.

The song is here:
The video is here:

Alessandra will likely have videos covering the remainder of her SoA adventure- I've already picked out songs that suit the main areas and encounters. I'm less certain about ToB, but perhaps it's best not to think that far ahead.

Anyhoo, enjoy. I'll post again when Alessandra reaches Spellhold.

Continued good hunting to all.

A.

@Wierdo- The Oversight Comets make a lot of sense. And I'd likely prefer them to Dragon's Breaths in a wide range of circumstances as well.

I'm wondering if they ever did really do Cold Damage now. During the Ascension Solo challenge, an OMonk showed up to the Final Ascension fights wearing the Boots of the North, When asked why, he said that the Oversight Comets did both Crushing and Cold Damage. I'm wondering if they've changed or he was just off on that. From the screenshots, they're orange in your install though right? They used to be blue.

@Easymask- Good luck!

Screenshots are also good because they can capture a moment, a still or snap that has some artistic, dramatic or informative image. Videos require the viewer to open a link, taking their focus away from the thread and your narrative. But videos can be more informative or instructional. It's all good - and all a kind of art, telling a story.

Maybe the Monk's player was wrong, but can't be sure.

Boots of the North or the other boots that give electrical resistance both make solid and sensilbe choices for a Monk to enhance elemental damage resistance, as they are immune to haste/slow and therefore can't benefit from Boots of Speed.

Just a quick update on Anatole..

I find myself postponing moving into act 3 because of the huge usefulness of DUHM which brings Anatole up to an amazing 25 str.. it is something I will sorely miss when I lose it in exchange for slayer form, which is strong in its own right but does not seem as useful for the play style of her,
Image IPB

Anatole has been around the city of coin doing minor questing, she took down kangaxx, too.
Image IPB

Fought a crew in the bridge district.
Image IPB

And had her simmy wish for a quest via scroll which was completed, too.
Image IPB

Next stop was Plaenar sphere, I am currently halfway through.. will update :)

It is interesting to read your comment about boots of speed, weirdo since I have found myself postponing picking those up for a very long time, it is an item that is wonderful for a backstabber but with all the item swapping I do, often with freedom effects I found I missed them less than I thought I would.

Wierdo's Bhaalspawn Bretheren

Talking Heads Pt2

Having recruited Balthazar to the cause, defeating Melissan's Monkish 'Bhaal-touched', and slaying the remainder of the five, Wierdo returns to the Talking Heads in the Forest of Tethyr to get resolution.

Appears that something is stopping the heads from talking. Better check it out.

Not knowing what is coming but figuring that trouble is likely, the party pre-buffs, summons a few familiar friends and goes haste/invisible etc. Initially, they gather in the circle of obelisks where it all got nasty last time with Illasera.

Image IPB

Meanwhile, as Bruce moves so darn fast now and is already invisible, Wierdo asks him to scout around a bit to see if there is anything going on. He finds a cadre of topless demons! Unfortunately, their friend the fallen solar can see Bruce. Oh no, is it casting a spell? Looks like the jig is going to be up in a moment! Bruce decides to go Solar on this Solar.

Image IPB

The fallen Solar's Dispel Magic happened just before Bruce's Solar Stance went off. The dispel affected the demons as well, for whatever that was worth. The Solar Stance didn't actually hurt any of the demons as they are pretty much immune to fire anyway, but the buffet effect pushed all the lesser/smaller demons away.

Image IPB

This made the fight more manageable, less opponents for Bruce and
actually throwing some of the demons closer to where the rest of the
party was. The other characters could then take care of demons like Mariliths individually.

Image IPB

A few friends (Deva, Mazzy, Mazzy's Vailor Helm-Sim) joined Bruce fairly quickly to help take out the baddies not thrown out by Bruce's Solar Stance - two baalor demons (too large) and the Fallen Solar (kinda makes sense).

Image IPB

After cleaning the demons up, Wierdo talked to the Heads and was transported to the Pocket Plane for a private update from our friendly Solar. She summoned Melissan who finally succumbed to an evil rant and provided an exposition.

Image IPB

Wierdo's group felt like they had a bit more work to do before rest (ie, their buffs had not yet run out), so they topped up a few buffs like Prot.fEvil 10' radius, some fire protection for Bruce (who had suffered a Dispel Magic in the last battle) and Improved Haste for Mazzy and Starria (from items).

Then they went onto challenge no. five and took on the Ravager, with Starria & Mazzy focused on the Ravager (using Crticial Strike and Whirlwind a lot) and the rest of the party mostly focused on trying to use magic on the Ravager, summoning Mordy swords and fighting Bone Blades. +3 weapons were not sufficient to harm this Ravager. Attempts to cause magic-related damage were fruitless, but Ravager was eventually brought down mostly due to Mazzy and Starria's efforts.

Then Jaheira stated the bleedingly obvious:

Next: Finale

Oh, thought that I would mention that I am slightly freaking out about Wierdo's final Amelissan battle.

So will take a break before doing that. Any suggestions regarding stuff like what Spell Triggers and Contingencies to set would be welcome. Already got a bunch of scrolls, will pre-buff with all the usual stuff.

Typically Wierdo (1st mage) uses a Chain Contingency of PfMW, Simulacrum, Mass Invisibility.

Typically, Annakin (2nd Mage) uses a Chain Contingency of PfMW, Simulacrum, ADHW.

As mentioned before, standard buffs will include:

Basic pre-buffing and re-setting contingencies typically include:

- Stone/ironskins for Wierdo, Anni, Starria & Jaheira (cast night before)
- Meifs MM for Annakin (cast night before)
- Death Ward and Chaotic Commands for all (Jah. & Starria casting)
- Prot. Fire for all (Wierdo/Anni casting themselves, Bruce & Mazzy), Jaheira/Starria use items.
- Prot Magic Energy for Wierdo (casting), Anni (casting), Starria, Bruce
- Prot Acid for Wierdo, Anni
- Prot Lightning for all Anni (casting), Starria (casting) Bruce, Mazzy, Jaheira (casting) Wierdo (Harper Pin)
- Spirit Armor for Wierdo, Anni (casting)
- Remove Fear (anyone casting)
- Prot Petrification, Blur for Wierdo, Anni

Plus probably SI:Abjuration for Wierdo & Annakin, Armor of Faith plus bless/chant for Starria/Jaheira etc if they know that they are going directly into a fight.

Forget all that - Just wish me luck :)

Anatole has finished the planar sphere! :)

The halflings was taken down with a series of backstabs, they only got one spell off which was a hold spell.. countered with shield of harmony.
Image IPB
Image IPB

I made a recording of the other group of halflings to give an impression of the flow. The priority list goes mage over cleric over archer/thieves over fighters but each situation is of course unique.. I seem to remember the mage here can get quite nasty if it gets some room.

Halfling battle:
www.youtube.com/watch

Lavok did not get any spells off on her because of improved invisibility.. I send in the beserk warrior to tank his initial spells them shot through his stoneskins with acid arrows and finished off with a backstab.

Image IPB
Image IPB

Then I made a recording of theTolgerias battle if anyone is curious, not a long battle again..

Tolgerias: www.youtube.com/watch

Frost room was taken down by me and simmy hasted and buffed up a bit.
Image IPB

Fire room was a series of backstabs and a summon tank.. I scouted the room in stealth first and was spotted by hell hounds that followed meo ut, they was taken down first then cleanup.
Image IPB

The main reason I postponed the planar sphere and the planar prison was the demons each place.. I was unsure of how to handle them comfortly in the early game with a solo thief class.. A recording of the aquiring of a deman heart here.

Demon: www.youtube.com/watch

Not much else to mention, the golems were not a big deal besides a bit time consuming to take down at safe range.
Image IPB

Smooth session overal

Vessen the level 18 halfling Priest of Lathander continues his adventures...

The party did all the quests/battles in the Underdark main cavern. No one died so thought that is a good sign. Battles of note:
* Battled a trapped soul lich. Breaches were useless - I know liches are invulnerable to level 5 spells and under except dispel magic, but wasn't sure it applied to breach -- well it does. However, once is protection wore off he was clobbered. He only managed to stun Lily that wasn't going to save him.
* Endless elementals gave us 3 levels so that was nice. No problems at all, Lily and Joshua tanked well.
* Used farsight on the first drow war party. Sent lots of summons after them, the summons did the job.
* 2nd drow war party by the bridge, Uriah was stealthed and had 5 summons - Uriah cast a slow then backed off and let the summons defeat the war party, which they did in fact.
* Helped the mage. We thought he was going to gyp us, so we laid down 3 snares had 5 summons, hasted and Joshua had true seeing going. We trashed the mage, as he did in fact proved too stingy. However despite 21 INT Imoen managed to bumble scribing Time Stop and another 8th level spell, forget what it was now. She did though Inscendiary cloud and also wrote down ADHW, though of course she can't cast that yet.

We will explore Kuao-Toa lair next.

@Weirdo: good luck in your final confrontations. Take your time, be sad for you to make all this progress just to be stopped at the end.

Party Status:
Joshua - level 15 inquisitor, 102 HP
Lily - level 20 blade, 84 HP
Paja - level 14 druid
Vessen - level 18 priest of lathander, 84 HP
Imoen - level 7 thief > level 14 mage, 70 HP
Uriah - level 13 mage/level 15 mage, 57 HP

@Wierdo- Good luck!

It's been many, many years since I've done Ascension with a party and I've never done Ascension+SCS scripts that way so I'm reluctant to offer advise on pre-buffs. As an aside, I'll note that my Sorceress, Alanis, who completed an Ascension + Tactics (Parts)Trilogy No Reload and also soloed the battle on Insane (2 Reloads, one due to a crash) used the following pre-buffs: Protection Scroll Suite, Spell Trap, Pro Evil, Resist Fear, Stoneskins, Blur, Mirror Image, Improved Invisibility, Spell Immunity: Divination, Spell Immunity: Abjuration, Spell Immunity: Conjuration, Protection from Energy, Spell Shield. Her Sequencer was 3 Teleport Fields. Her Trigger was ProMW, Stoneskins, Spell Shield and her Contingencies included ProMW, PI, Simmulacrum, and Limited Wish. In an SCS install, I'd be inclined to add GoI in. I'd likely contemplate other adjustments as well. Her book was continuously refreshed through Wishing and Spell Trap Looping.

Mel and pals do do a lot of Breaching. In the original Ascension, Spell Shield was key for my characters. In the SCS version, it would be wise to keep Spell Protections between in coming Breaches. Also, there are a few things I observed in Alesia's run that you may want to watch out for.

If you have the SCS Scripts installed over the Ascension one and Time Stop melee is active as well, then do watch out for Mel's Time Stop-> Teleport Without Error-> Greater Whirlwind (She has a casting speed bonus and will cast Time Stop at 3. In my install,  she'd stop time, land on your head, and Whirlwind. It was pretty nasty.). Be sure that you fully understand the mechanics of the Focus ability.

As you may know, my solo Bounty Hunter made it to that fight and then fell to Mel's Time Stop-> Teleport Without Error-> Greater Whirlwind combo. She completed the battle successfully later but she had to hit dozens of Focuses within a 2-3 round segment window to make it. The post on that fight can be found here:

Wierdo's friends (notable Bruce) and ProMW will likely make Focus less crucial, but nonetheless, it may be important in the fight. Back when we were doing the Ascension solo challenge, the clearest difference between the successes and failures was that the successful players hit their focuses and the unsuccessful ones didn't and that was without the SCS script that makes more frequent and better use of Time Stop.

I'd definitely recommend having Wierdo either Focused or under ProMW before each of Mel's Time Stops. Solo, it's advisable to stay within view of Mel so you can hear her incant. The same is likely true in party play.

Also, remember that Mel's Spear will drain your saves on hit. And on Core with a party, she'll likely summon loads of demons. If those Demons have SCS abilities in your install, I can imagine that getting iffy. I'm sure you know how to handle the Demons by now though. Watch out for PW:K from Mel. And if Greater Restoration still effects the whole party in your install, watch out for Sendai casting that on you.

Anyhoo. Once again: good luck! I'm looking forward to the finale! I'm confident Wierdo and crew are capable.

Best,

A.

Screenshots are also good because they can capture a moment, a still or snap that has some artistic, dramatic or informative image. Videos require the viewer to open a link, taking their focus away from the thread and your narrative. But videos can be more informative or instructional. It's all good - and all a kind of art, telling a story.

Agreed. I prefer if the videos supplement rather than replace "standard" coverage which is what they'll do from here on in (The only thing left to cover at the time of the last video was Bodhi's Lair and that was pretty dull).

Maybe the Monk's player was wrong, but can't be sure.

It's possible. It's also possible that Oversight decided the Cold portion was overpowered in Ascension due to Yaga-Shura's vulnerbility. Given the color change, that's my suspicion. And I do agree that the elemental boots make sense for Monks- O or otherwise.
