Ormaline UD

stopped due to bug! :?

Posted Image Posted Image

There is a scripting bug in;

~SCSII/SETUP-SCSII.TP2~ #0 #1000 // Initialise mod (all other components require this): v20

At first I assumed that the bug was only in,

~SCSII/SETUP-SCSII.TP2~ #0 #2050 // Make individual versions of Spell Immunity available, so that players can use them in Contingencies etc.: v20

but unfortunatly you only need the basic mod componits to crash your spell... It causes the ‘Chain Contigency’ spell to misreport the targeting info... doesn’t matter if you put ‘Spell Immunity’ in the chain or even if you don’t actually know the spell.

The good news is I'm using GoG so maybe the bug is only in that but as playing without SCS installed (or without ‘Chain Contigency’)  is not an option thats it for BG2 game until they fix it.

@Grond0 thanks, I looked at that but no, I beleave the bug that The Cow King is talking about is a different one... this bug can be reproduced 100% with only vanilla BG2 (GoG) and ~SCSII/SETUP-SCSII.TP2~ #0 #1000 // Initialise mod (all other components require this): v20 installed.

p.s. I'll retire Ormaline here & go back to BG1 Tutu for a little bit and have another look later.

Diary of Rajkumari Azure
The Air Genasi Cavalier
GENASI: Genasi are descended from elemental-related creatures, such as efreet, dao, djinn,
jann, and marids, among others. Most of them have had no direct contact with their elemental forebears, but the signs of their heritage are apparent. Genasi take great pride in their distinctive features and abilities. In this case blue skin, the reason for the name Azure
- ADVANTAGES: Infravision.
- DISADVANTAGES: -10% experience modifier.
Different Genasi also have their own racial advantages and disadvantages:
- AIR GENASI: +1 to Dexterity and Intelligence, -1 to Wisdom and Charisma, Breathless
(Immunity to spells like stinking cloud), and Free Action 1/day.

After leaving the dungeon, Jaheira and Minsc left and I carried on alone. I helped out at the circus and upon leaving was told about Jafir’s lamp. I was also asked to help the bookkeeper who has been burgled. I decided to go to the city gates as soon as possible to make enquiries about the lamp. However before I got there I came across slavers at the copper coronet and was also asked to help Nalia retake her castle.

After retaking most of the D’Arnise castle without too many problems I decided to help Nalia keep control of the castle. We returned to Amn and did some shopping, the most important items being the robe of Vecna and some boots to speed us up somewhat. Now if things get too rough, we can run away if necessary. I also bought some good maces in the hope that I will find a good cleric for my party. After becoming temporarily wealthy, we are now poor again!

On the way to the slums, we came across some thugs who had beaten up a traveller.

We disposed of them and took him to the harpers to be healed.
We then tried to help Xzar, but he ended up dead.

We went to the graveyard where we gave a bear to a child, took a child to a paladin, killed lots of undead, and were rebuked by Bhodi for overspending.

[In my last set-up, there was an additional trader in the Adventurers' Mart who sold mithril weapons. He isn’t there now, so I am wondering if anyone knows where he originated, Bonus disc perhaps?}

Deirdre was only in collector's edition of SoA, but was standard in ToB, so I'm surprised she's not on your install.  Joluv (in Copper Coronet) was only in the pre-order edition of SoA and not ToB, so most people will not see him in vanilla.

There are quite a few mods that add these merchants in - try BG2 Tweaks for example.

Deidre is there. The one I am talking about is a dwarf who stood to the right of and in front of her if I remember correctly. The weapons were not overly powerful, I think that most of then were +4 or thereabouts.

I also have Lucy and Conlan.

Have just found a page or two full of merchant mods. I couldn't believe that there were so many!!

If anyone wants a few more merchants, this page gives info regarding them.

http://iem.rp-addict...show=j&limit=20

We helped Korgan find a book and left him at the Copper Coronet. We then dealt with some of the worst elements in the thieves' guild. Renal asked me to run the one that had been run by Mae Var, but as a paladin, I did not think that I could help further. A Paladin who failed his final duty has asked for help and I think that I am in the right place to help him, though I may be wrong. I am in a disused temple of Amaunator and have been beset by shades. I could really use a cleric with me, but so far have not met one willing to help.

As a result of Aidan asking for help regarding a failed duty, I set off to the Umar Hills. In addition to the usual tasks, there were two liches to fight. They were quite tough, but because I was half-expecting them, I was fully buffed and dispatched them. I then fought the dragon whilst Nalia removed his/her protections. It must have been blinded/stunned at some stage as half way through the battle it stopped fighting. It had just stripped Nalia of four levels, so her spell book was dramatically reduced. She therefore used Daystar. It took some time to complete the task, but finish it we did. Posted Image

We then went to deal with the druid problem. Feeling far too self confident I took on the druids without being fully buffed. I was held and Nalia bravely continued the fight. The last druid was down to "Near Death" but with the last attack of his life, he snuffed out mine. Posted Image

I am therefore starting BG1 again with an Air Genasi Staff-wielding berserker.

The combination of Air Genasi Cavalier and Nalia was quite powerful. The immunities plus the freedom of action spell of the cavalier plus the ability of Nalia to breach defences is a deadly combination particularly as the Cavalier had two immunity to level drain spells. No need for Clerics, therefore faster levelling up.

It was only overconfidence that brought the game to an end so suddenly. It is a combination that is well worthwhile repeating.

I'm due for a break, but have got a final attempt graduating from BG1.  I was just reflecting on the lack of activity on the BG2 thread at the moment compared to BG1 and noted that over the past year there have been almost exactly 50% more pages used for BG1 no-reloads than BG2.  That's interesting because the general view on these forums seems to be that BG2 is the better game.  Even allowing for an effect from people wishing to play the full trilogy (and thus starting with BG1) I'm not sure that the no-reload community follow that view.

Fizz is a wizard slayer dualled to thief at level 7 - the stealth ability is required to give a solo wizard slayer a half-decent chance of progression.  The dungeon was less straight-forward than I was looking for.  The aim was to avoid conflict with steam mephits as their non-magical stun attack is highly likely to end with a character death.  Thus the mephits on the elemental plane were bypassed

However, there were not one, but two other encounters with steam mephits.  In the first I wasn't expecting one in this room and attacked without thinking about it; fortunately a 2 was good enough to hit with a backstab.  In the second a steam mephit was gated into the mephit portal room and its attack disrupted Fizz' attempt to hit it with a Bhaal power, but Fizz saved against the stun effect and was able to kill it before it attacked again.

Left the ogre mage and the vampire / battle mage alone, but backstabs dealt with the clone, the duergar mage and the assassin, who all have the potential to be troublesome.  Here's his character record on exit from the dungeon.  He's already gone on to quickly restore the circus to order.

Without the ability to use potions (at least for a long time) Fizz won't be able to steal stuff.  Also as he can't use glasses of identification there will be a significant cost for identifying things.  As a result he'll need to use resources carefully despite the limited selection available to him.  To start with he donated the money from the dungeon and the circus to the temple.  Together with the reputation increase from the circus that has got him up to 18.  The Copper Coronet will be next.

Well that was short and not too sweet! Fizz finished off the slavers and lots of patience successfully saw him beat off the first ambush. I then decided to hunt for an improved longsword for him in the liches tomb.

Under SCS I know this is a death trap because the door gets sealed until the lich is dead, but I thought I had seen other posters say it was possible to go and get daystar under sanctuary (and therefore that the door was only sealed once the lich went hostile). So I decided to use a scroll of undead protection to enable him to nip in and out - watching carefully to run out if the lich started to cast remove magic.

In the event the door was sealed immediately on entry so there was no escape (presumably either I was mis-remembering other posts or perhaps they just had not installed the relevant component of SCS). A backstab would have probably killed the lich immediately, but it moved round to prevent Fizz from attacking from the rear. Regrettably a normal couple of hits did not cause its summon demon spell to fizzle. Fizz was hampered keeping out of the way of the cornugon not only by the cramped space, but also the need to keep attacking the lich to try and prevent any more spells. As a result the cornugon got an attack in that stunned Fizz (not a spell, so must be an attack ability).

In the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger ...

So the moral of this story is that a scroll of ‘undead protection’ is different to ‘sanctuary’… Sorry about Fizz.

That's a bummer there Grond0. In vanilla, you can use sanctuary to get the sword -- SCS locks the door behind you.

The scroll worked OK and let me obtain the sword without interference from the lich.  I've tried using a scroll there before and had a nasty shock when the lich cast remove magic, but I was watching out for that this time and would have been ready to run if it started casting.  It was simply that Fizz was locked in there by SCS2 until the lich was dead so had no alternative but to attack.  Next time I think I'll bring a party to the lich's partyPosted Image.

No - I would have liked to, but had no way to identify the sword first (wizard slayer heritage ruling out glasses of identification).

While Grond0 can't use its activated ability, if wielded it still should have done it's bonus damage to undead targets...

No doubt it would have done if the lich had not got protection from magic weapons up as part of its pre-buff routine :). I don't think that protected it from the wizard slayer suppress magic ability, but did keep the lich alive until the cornugon could do his business.

You know, I don't think I know what a "cornugon" is -- when deal with that lich, he usually summons a pit fiend, is it a different creature in SCS?

It's a different sort of demon, though I think roughly the same toughness. I remember that it has quite a nasty bleeding attack, i.e. you keep losing HPs for some while after being hit (making spell casting pretty impossible)

Core the level 3 berserker duealed to level 10 mage entering the no-reload challenge (Trilogy)...

Core and gang made it out of Chateau Irenicus, so he is entering the challenge.
Posted Image

They dealt with the circus problem fairly well. Next was to recruit Viconia - we killed two fanatics, but couldn't find the 3rd -- I suspected he was in the jail, but we couldn't get in, so had to go to Waukeen's Promenade to rest and come back. Sure enough he was in the jail, we took him down then Viconia would join us.

The intention is to get Mazzy as our last party member, but we need +2 weapons against the stone golem, which only Minsc has at the moment. So we took a stop at Trademeet to deal with the Dao Djinns. We buffed to the max, which did protect Core, BUT tragedy strikes -- Minsc is petrified (which we were able to undo), BUT Yoshimo was permanently killed. We will have to recruit Jan now. The only valuable unique item that was lost when Yoshimo died was the Arbane.
Posted Image
We also failed to kill the Djinn with the genie lamp before he escaped. We reported our success to the guildmistress, Jaheira will use the +2 scimitar. Decided would use MMM for Core vs. the stone golem. Viconia will use a magical hammer summoned via spell. We got the cloak of displacement for Minsc, as well as +2 small shield for Viconia.

We will pick up Jan next, then head to Immesvale.

Core the level 3 berserker dualed to level 10 mage - FINAL Update

Core met tragedy in Umar Hills of all places. We had just got our reward from Mcduff and his ogres. We were on our way to Merella's cabin when we encountered about 8 shadows. The party gave it everything they had, but then Minsc got held and was dieing. Core ran out of MMM and didn't have magical ammo (money), so he tried use his vapiric touch bhaal ability -- however, he not only got interrupted but held!
Posted Image
The party did everything they could to save him - Viconia switched to the enemies attacking Core, Jaheira tried call lightning (but got interrupted), then she tried firebreath potion. Jan cast some magic missiles and acide arrow. One of the shadows was killed and other was near death, but Jaheira's firebreath potion came a 1/2 second too late.

Unlucky Corey. I see you had Jan, not sure if his stunning skulls work on shadows but they've saved me in several desperate situations.

My understanding is they blind not stun. And they were already blinded, as Core did glitterdust very early in the battle.

I'm fairly sure they stun, only affect hostiles and possibly have a blast radius. All very handy in a disaster.

Just checked it (handy having Merro and Savvy near enemies with the pocket plane accessible).

Although the Jester playthrough been fairly easy, I'm not exactly enjoying the game being passive. Meaning I am not gonna enjoy the character very much. My only choice at this point is just start new with a more hands on character.

This new character needs to be the focus of my playthrough. I also want to limit the number of party members by 2. So I am only able to have 3 party members besides my character. So a max party size of 4. This allows me to specialize a bit more in how i want to play while maximizing the exp gain. So far at this point I want to have at least 1 Thief, 1 Fighter, 1 Arcane, 1 Diviner. So my new character will fall into one of the 4 required classes.

As you can see I have some thinking to do atm.

Sylo the Jester will be removed from the active no reload challenge. In the following days I'll enter a new entry as I make the attempt to start one.
