Enter Reyalp, Half-Elf Blade, Chaotic Neutral, Str 12, Dex 18, Con 16, Int 16, Wis 10, Cha 15, *LongSword *ShortSword **Two-Weapon Style

The plan atm is to role with a smaller group than I normaly do. This group will be a cannon group. Not sure if i will replace anyone should they get permenantly removed. Jaheira, Minsc, Imoen, Yoshimo. Once exit out of Dungeon I will be restricted to a 4 member party except when a quest requires addition of another member.

My goal with this character is to experience the game with a close mind as far as NPC goes. Trust no one but those who gained your trust. So there is a possibility that I may missed out on some quest along the way. Not sure how many actually Roleplayed a No Reload Challenge before.

The city gate merchant sells one but you have only one chance to shop with him... you can view the entire games stores in Near Infinity by clicking the STO tab.

I must have missed him selling a scroll case, he's long gone...thanks for your suggestion, but Near Infinity wasn't helpful at all. I found a DSHOP01.STO with a scroll case, but it's name is simply "Merchant" -- I have no idea where this merchant is nor whether the merchant is even available in chapter 2. Google was no help in this either.

The d stands for docks and I’m pretty shore that’s Ikert & he is normally just north of the harpers place (day time only)... understand that the sto file is a master and you might have already shopped from him in which case any changes will be stored in your actuall save game files.

Ud2;

@Welcome aboard Krazy Solo. I’m not a fan of Minsc for no-reload but if you also take Keldorn then he is easier to control.
p.s. you are aware that if Minsc sees Imoen get hurt he will probably go berserk on you.

Posted Image  Posted Image  Posted Image

I returned to the copper to deal with some upkeep issues; recruit/ kick Anomen, told Nalia that I’ll see her at her house later and confirmed that Amber is indeed waiting in jail for me to rescue her.

On the way out of the city gates;

Some slayers tried their luck but my spells proved too much for them. We stopped to rest at The Crooked Crane and Alyssia double dog dared Do’Dad to try and steal “Daystar” from the Lich downstairs. Fortunately a naked Dwarf under ‘Sanctuary’ is not an everyday sight but it appears that this Lich can target hidden opponents... MEDIC!

Detman the level 12 Undead Hunter continues his adventure...

Lot of things happened this session:

* The party cleared the spiders and undead in the lower crypts, including taking down Panai and her spider pets.
* Detman did a few tasks for the Most Noble of the Radiant Heart. Some hostiles threatened some paladins in Umar Hills, but they were defeated badly by the party -- guess slow, call lightning, and insect plague doesn't help the enemies much. All paladins survived. We also tried to mediate a land dispute, but the noble ended up attacking us and we had to kill him and his guards. We also had to guard a rather belligerent young lady. During a fight while guarding her, a hostile went upstairs, we followed and so did many other hostiles - we did end up killing them all but even though the girl was never targeted by us, she went hostile! Detman wondered if this meant he failed -- someone claiming to be her uncle showed up but detect evil showed him to be an imposter -- he got commanded. Normally one has to talk to the girl but that's impossible. So Detman just reported to the Radiant Heart. Fortunately they considered his action a success.

Last but not least, the Most Noble of the Radiant Heart asked us to deal with Firkraag and get the Holy Avenger from him. This is the part we were waiting. We headed to Windspear Hills and rested at Garren's place -- we did eventually make it to Firkraag's cave, but we had to fight a lot of weak enemies along the way for little gain -- Detman was sure he had defeated all the goblins and orcs, but guess not.

Detman wasn't interested in trading blows with a powerful red dragon So instead, out of sight, Nalia fired 10 cloudkills in a row near Firkraag's position. Firkraag managed to heal twice, but it wasn't enough to save him.
Posted Image

Detman now wields the Holy Avenger. Understandably, he now melees instead of throwing an axe. Detman decided the party needed more AC, so the party's summons battled a Rakshasha and a cloak improved Minsc AC some.

Dermin said that there is an execution order for Jaheira, so Jaheira left us to go to the Harper's Hold. Detman followed and battled 3 Harpers, who were easily defeated. Before going upstairs, Yoshimo laid quite a few traps, and Viconia 5 summons. Sure enough Jaheira was upstairs and re-joined the party. When the party went back downstairs, enemies appeared, but were quickly overwhelmed by the party, traps and summons.

One more thing needed to be done before going after Imoen -- Detman did a quest for the Temple of Helm and obtained some illithium. Some potions of genius were purchased as well.

Then Detman's party finally met up with Mook. Mook didn't survive the night, but her killer was killed -- though we fear not permanently. The party also had to take out some shadow thief traitors and their contact, which allowed Detman to get crucial information about the rival guild - they are based in the graveyard district.

It was time to deal wtih Bodhi's guild directly. Detman and Minsc were in front. The first major challenge was Tanova. The party's strategy was the same as against Mekrath -- send a single summon at a time until she ran out of spells -- then when she was out of caps, Detman dealt with her since he can't be level drained. It took quite a few summons but the plan worked perfectly.

Then the party battled a clay golem, a ghast and a few vampires. We obtained a magical mace. Detman ordered a temporary retreat out of the lair. The party picked up their illithium and had Cromwell made the Improved Mace of Disruption. Now both frontliners are immune to level drain and even the 3rd tier (Jaheira). The party returned to Bodhi's lair and resumed their battles. The big ambush at the lower level was significantly reduced in threat by sunray from Minsc's daystar.

As for Bodhi herself, she didn't even make it a single round - the party was hasted, Yoshimo laid down 6 traps and we had 3 powerful summons, she had no chance.
Posted Image

There are still many chapter 2 quests/battles left, but that's so Imoen can get some experience. Detman is glad to finally go after Imoen directly.

Nice going Corey, level 12 and two dragons is impressive (both are often end-gamers for me in SOA).

Fovin, LG male elf beast master. Fresh from BG1.

I sneak past Tarnesh and into the FAI to grab the golden pantaloons. I'm careful to sneak out too. Belt has a job for me and the next thing I know I'm waking up in a cage with Imoen shouting at me.

We grab our loot, thankfully my familiar is tucked up with the golden pantaloons and is safely transferred to my backpack. I equip Imoen, Minsc and Jaheira who are all keen to travel with me. I'm not sure I want their company really but perhaps we should stick together, at least until we escape. Their backpacks look quite accomodating and I intend to recover my fortunes rapidly, or die trying.

Ud3;

Preliminary tasks;

Posted Image  Posted Image  Posted Image

After raising Do’Dad we left Athkatla behind for the sunny fields of Umr Hills so as to negotiate a profitable peace treaty & terrorise some chickens before realising I’d buggered up Alyssia (only 16 wisdom, **urge**) so she had to settle for Fighter as her second career... I gave her points in axe & scimitar.

Posted Image  Posted Image  Posted Image

Next, I set off to Temple Ruins in order to free Mazzy but my dance card is full up this run so I kicked her (unlocks Trademeet). Then I travelled to Trademeet where Jan picked a Djinn’s pocket & blackmailed Wilfred the Red... stay tuned.

Tough break there ussnorway, assume you were aiming at cleric instead.

Fovin, LG male elf beast master.

Escorting Imoen, Jaheira and Minsc to freedom.
Minsc and I grab composite longbows from slain goblins. Jaheira leads until we have found a sling and shortbow.

Ilyich is overwhelmed thanks to a hasted party including a nymph, ogrillion and wolf. Our buffs and summons also help defeat a cambion.

Somewhat later more hasted summons distract mephits, allowing us to free a djinn and retrieve the Sword of Chaos for Minsc.

Escorting Imoen, Jaheira, Minsc and Yoshimo to freedom.
We carefully work our way through enemies and traps, until Imoen forgets to check a unit near Frennedan and gets hit by lightning. She panics and leaves oops, just forgot to search the other side of the door. Knew there was a trap.

Escorting Jaheira, Minsc and Yoshimo to freedom.
Only Frennedan and three assassins remain, soon they are dead. I'm struggling to hold all the spare composite bows. Worry not, says Yoshimo, I shall hold your pantaloons and pommel jewel. No wonder he is feared by all.

Re-united with Imoen.
No sooner do we track her down than we are attacked by Irenicus. He and Imoen are teleported away by cowled wizards.

Jaheira and I find this quite the experience still a bit low level, just cleared 150k xp to reach 180k.

There are more composite longbows to pick up. I can't manage it, until Jaheira decides to hold my magic acorns and release my familiar. Please, no.

The bows sell for diddly at the Adventurers Mart, meaning we can only afford a gem bag to prepare for what lies ahead. I need to have a think about my travelling companions too.

Nice job, Corey, UssNorway, Gate.

@Corey, I'm interested in your relatively safe way of dealing with Firkraag. Was Nalia using any stealth or invisibility, or did you just know exactly where to have her stand to cast without alerting Firkraag? Does Cloudkill bypass his magic resistance, or did you have her cast Lower Resistance spells first?

If the trick is to stand in exactly the right place, do you know any landmarks in the chamber that could help me and others find the sweet spot? I assume you have to stop and cast before you can actually see Firkraag on the screen. (If you can see him, he can see you, right?)

Fovin, LG male elf beast master.

Re-jigging the party.
Yoshimo is the first to leave, I sense his heart is not in it to the end. Minsc is next, taking the helm of infravision in exchange for the Sword of Chaos. They both decide to wait at the Copper Coronet in case I have need of them later.

I ask Jaheira if she is prepared to be my front-man for the time being. She accepts and we purchase a scroll case from Lady Yuth.

Rescuing Imoen.
It appears we need 20,000gp to rescue Imoen. We don't have that sort of money so it looks like we are for hire once more. A second gem bag is obtained in case we need it.

Re-assembling the party.
An illusionist/thief called Jan looks to be just what we need. His spells are less than ideal but we've stored scrolls near the Adventurers Mart which will sort that issue out. His thieving skills are good, his equipment will save a lot of money and his stunning bruiser mates look interesting. We turn to head towards the promenade but are ambushed.

Sold into slavery.
Only kidding; Suna Seni has a fight on her hands. I chunk a mage so Jaheira is summoning insects at a wasted target. Jan has had to run in a semi-circle to shake off two slavers, then aims his crossbow.
Posted Image

Jaheira dooms Eldarin and Jan stuns two slavers as they cast strength of one. I smash a second slaver to the ground and start on Suna Seni as Jaheira dooms her too. Jan aims at Eldarin, but he refuses to be stunned. I've killed Suna Seni so close in on Eldarin and kill him. Jaheira kills the last active slaver so Jan switches to normal bolts but I claim another kill. Jan identifies Arbane's sword and adds it as his melee/counter weapon.

The circus.
DUHM, bless and haste are an interesting combination of spells. My staff sweeps the shadows aside, Jaheira and Jan joining in when they can. It has taken us less than five minutes to deal with the problem.

Night-time misdemeanours.
Hareishan is attacking two thieves at the docks. I attack her as Jaheira casts NPP. My weapon (+1) proves to be useless so we have to run for our lives. We rest in the Copper Coronet and Jaheira discovers it is a den of iniquity. Jan and I ask and she advises it is a place of wickedness. Why didn't she just say so, we'd have happily sorted it out. Jan purchases a second scroll case first though.

Battle of the Beast Masters; Freeing Hendak.
Stoneskin, ironskins and DUHM take us through the first set of guards, while Jan removes magic for one mage. I charm a winter wolf while Jaheira summons a woodland nymph. Then we move in.

The other Beast Master kills the winter wolf, but Jan stuns him and Tabitha with a bruiser mate. I have charmed another panther, while the nymph has held two mutated gibberlings.
Posted Image

Tabitha is down but a grizzly bear kills the panther and attacks Jan. I step in as the other Beast Master recovers. I move towards him as the nymph dominates the grizzly bear. I've killed the Beast Master, a minotaur finishes the grizzly bear but is killed by one arrow. We finish a final leopard and the nymph casts a healing group hug on us.

I free two children and then Hendak before healing most of my wounds. DUHM, bless and haste are used to keep up with Hendak. Once Lehtinan is dead we purchase a Sling of Seeking for Jaheira and some more bolts for Jan.

Fovin has reached level 8, Jaheira 7/9 and Jan 8/8.

@Gate70: Thanks for the kudos -- having the PC immune to level drains made the shadow dragon encounter much safer. And I' am not certain my party would have won against Firkraag in a fair fight...

@Belgarath:
Sure I can explain in more detail. For one I am vanilla BG 2 not SCS. Second, when we rescued Garren Windspear's daughter, we chose a non-confrontational dialogue, so Firkraag stayed neutral, and so we can deal with his pet mage separately. Note that being invisible is meaningless when talking about Firkraag, as he sees through all invisibility. I had Nalia moved up until she can see Firkraag, then she moved a couple of steps back so she couldn't see him (as well as Firkraag couldn't see her). Second I aim the cloudkill wand toward Firkraag but at the ground. It is actually unnecessary to target Firkraag with any spells, as cloudkill BYPASSES magic resistance (which is why you can use on mindlflayers too, despite their magic resistance). Cloudkills also stack. So what I do is as soon as I see the cloudkill leave the wand I pause and order Nalia to send another cloudkill in the same spot, so that the cloudkills get set as soon as possible. Firkraag will heal himself, so it can take 10-16 cloudkills at once possibly until he falls. A fully charged wand is the safest bet, but in this case I had two wands and also 2 cloudkills memorized so I was sure I had enough.

So in a nutshell, the key is to do this far enough away so he doesn't see you, but close enough so the cloudkills kill him. And he has to start neutral too.

Also Update on Detman:
Detman has escaped spellhold and is in the City of Caverns. Viconia can summon skeletal warriors now, and Nalia can do 7th level spells now. Imoen has joined our group, we got the level 11 version. She memorized a massive # of spells...

Fovin, LG male elf beast master. Travelling with Jaheira and Jan.

The sewers.
These are infested with hobgoblins, an otyugh, a slime and mustard jellies. I sneak into them so we are prepared each time. A breakout area has myconids which confuse myself and Jaheira though. Jan helps me kill them then blocks Jaheira off from me.

He removes a trap, then we remove some kobolds. A fireball sears a final group of hobgoblins then we rescue Quallo and obtain a talking sword, Lilacor.

The Slaver Compound.
DUHM, bless and haste are added to stoneskin and ironskin, then invisibility 10' allows us to position ourselves favourably.

I am next to Captain Haegan, killing his companion first. Jaheira summons a nymph and dooms Haegan while Jan has cast greater malison then stunned two slavers. I'm injured and Haegan appears to be getting the better of me.

I have to run, Jan steps in with his stoneskins. They soon disappear and he struggles to survive. It is a close call but we make it, only for a troll to appear.
Posted Image

We return to the sewers and rest before opening the door. We hit the trolls so fast that they refuse to keel over until we stop fighting game bug I guess, then Jan casts Melfs Acid Arrow to kill them. Three children are freed.

The final group of slavers has two wizards. Jan removes magic but one re-buffs. Jaheira sends insects to one and we kill the other before clearing up the remaining slavers. Two yuan-ti are shot down, then we return to Hendak.

Only Cohrvale and Bregg need sorting out first. Jan and I shoot while Jaheira casts two dooms and swings her scimitar. Then we rest at the Copper Coronet, store some items outside the promenade and purchase the Staff of Rynn.

Baron Ployer.
Stopping for a drink proves to be a mistake, with Jaheira being cursed. We track him down to a derelict house where Jaheira demonstrates her new insect plague spell, resulting in four hapless victims.

Xzar.
Helping Renfeld puts us in the clutches of Xzar, who I haven't seen since the day I left Candlekeep. Once Prekeb and Sanaska (?) are dead we retrieve a bird that subsequently assassinates Xzar.

The Pirate cave.
A brief foray ends in battle. We kill four pirates then a mage holds Jan. Jaheira and I finish him off and dispel the hold.

Sansuki, Del and the vampire hunt.
We hear the screams of Sansuki, and pick out the word vampire. Jaheira casts NPP on me as I cast DUHM. Three vampires arrive, I lay into one while the others chase Jan and Jaheira. Jaheira manages to sweep hers into me, then casts insect plague. Jan takes longer to sweep Del into me, and my NPP is wearing off. I have to run, as only DUHM has kept me alive. Jaheira summons insects but Jan saves the day portrait doesn't reflect only 8hp left as total decreased to something like 35 too.
Posted Image

A temple visit is required. After a restoration I discover restoration scrolls are cheaper, so purchase three of them as a precaution.

Aran Linvail requires a vampire hunter.
Only 328gp left, but we have an audience with Aran. Jan and Jaheira both covet the AoP but my need is greatest. We head to meet Mook, but speak to a merchant called Fovem first. Interesting name.

Lassal kills Mook, ignores me and drains Jaheira. I manage to block and kill him, then Jan casts restoration on her. On our way back I am attacked by Parisa, and kill her too.

Next Aran wants me to deal with a pair of traitors. I add a guild contact called Gracen too before being asked to investigate the graveyard district. The three of us have fought enough vampires to know we will be torn apart in their lair so we need to think of some options.

Detman the level 15 Undead Hunter -- FINAL Update

Detman's party was doing really well in the Underdark, trashing Kua-Toas, Beholders, elementals and drow. I did a lot of special prep for Illithid City, but it was to no avail. Despite being in the back and 5 summons in front of Detman, I told the party to attack an umber hulk and Detman for some reason ran past summons, and past party members, being exposed to several mind flayers. His 4 INT ended up being his end.

Ud4;

@corey_russell; I suppose that’s what you get from trying to use advanced tactics with an Intel of 4... Good luck with PIcenon.

de'Arnise Keep;

After thinking it over I decided to collect some weapons next but if the spoiled little so-&-so isn’t in the group then I won’t get payed... kick Jaheira, hello Nalia.

Posted Image  Posted Image  Posted Image

I like to play around with multiple layers of ambush... Yoshimo sets his traps, I add some ‘Skull Trap’ then drop ‘Teleport Field’ to draw & help bottleneck them... Nalia casts ‘Cloudkill’ into the hall behind them for the Pièce de résistance.

Boss fight;

Posted Image  Posted Image  Posted Image

Posted Image  Posted Image  Posted Image

I was advised that SCS has been upgraded so maybe I went a little overboard with my prep, again traps/ ‘Skull Trap’ then ‘Teleport Field’. Torgal shrugged off everything and charged into the room to try & get his claws on me, Jan shuts the door behind him & once again proves that it’s better to be smart than tough... I love a good gang bang!
p.s. I picked ‘Protection From Acid’ as my level ten spell pick.

Fovin, LG male elf beast master. Travelling with Jaheira and Jan.

Know your limits & push them somewhat.
What kind of adventurer refuses to investigate a vampire lair? Me. Instead, we are ambushed as we try to leave the city. I almost die, but two insect plagues and stunning bruiser mates do the job.

Once out of the city we head to Umar Hills. My chat with Jeb is interrupted by kids wanting weapons and drink, I tell them to clear off but then Jeb does the same to me seems a bit broken, I had no chance to respond to him originally.

Inside a cave we are attacked by a killer mimic, but a nymph soon holds it. Two umber hulks almost kill me again, but more stunning bruiser mates, hold monster, insect plague and doom keep me alive again.

The mimic blood bites again, forcing us to protect a mage and kill a golem. With Madulf protecting the settlement I am free to purchase a third gem bag before heading to the rangers cabin. Clues there lead elsewhere.

Anath and a mirrored gem.
Anath needs our help, as a ranger I am duty-bound to assist and also to obtain any reward that may be offered. My armour is more suited to stealth than combat, and so I remove a few shadowy foes before finding a horde of them. Anath dies as I watch, leaving me alone to turn a glassy mirror and face the enemy. Even with DUHM I am struggling to kill them, so it is a good job I am next to a huge gem that burns them away. Jan and Jaheira join me and we rest before exploring further.

The abandoned temple.
More shades. I curse as Jan should keep his distance and Jaheira has no suitable weapon. Then I realise Jaheira is beside me, smashing a shillelagh cudgel into anything and everything. I cast AoF then DUHM as she summons a nymph and blesses us. Jan has hasted us and switched to Arbane's sword.

I kill a greater shade wolf whle Jan and Jaheira kill a shade wolf. I'm badly wounded but have killed a skeleton warrior. Jaheira kills a second shade wolf as I kill the second skeleton warrior. The final shade wolf is soon dead and we rest as I'm in a bad way 25/125hp.

When three became four.
We kill a shadow jailor and release Mazzy Fentan. I'm dismissive of her, saying she can help by carrying the heavy loot we are finding. Within moments I realise she is of geater value, after she uses a strength spell to fight our way out of the gem room.

Beyond a fiery pool we find wraith shades and skeleton warriors. I have to step back so Jaheira lets her iron skins take the remaining blows, then a bone golem joins in. We emerge victorious, but have to rest again.

With that name you must be a Welsh dragon?
We review our buffs and spells. Then we review them again. We must be mad.

Jan sets three snares, creates more bruiser mates, casts protection from fear, strength on Jaheira, haste and mirror images. I cast bark skin, AoF and DUHM. Jaheira summons three nymphs and a fire elemental then bless while Mazzy casts strength then uses Ilbratha to cast mirror images.

Our summons don't last long, then Jaheira is chased. Doom and malison are repeatedly resisted so Jan casts magic missiles. Mazzy and I realise our weapons are ineffective so call for Jan to cast remove magic. He obliges and I hit, then land a second critical hit before glugging a healing potion. Mazzy lands another critical hit and we can't believe our eyes. The huge dragon must have landed on me though as I take a final blow.
Posted Image

Key observation was the remove magic, the battle went from being in serious trouble to over in moments.

We're still buffed so decide to carry the fight outside. Everybody lets loose.
Posted Image

I destroy the Shadow Altar as Jan destroys Shadow Patrick.
Posted Image

The Shade Lord is next, leaving a lone shadow for us to tackle.

Fovin, LG male elf beast master. Travelling with Jaheira, Jan and Mazzy.

On the way back to Umar Hills Jan regales a tale of potatoes to Mazzy would need six or seven screenshots to show it but a sample from Jan is "That was a bit rude. I take my potato comment back, missy!" Our reward for killing the Shade Lord is some leather armour.

Mazzy edit in Shadowkeeper: I transfer 4 of 5 shortbow proficiencies, 2 to axe and 2 to mace.

Party woes.
When we return Jan has a family crisis, but we are ambushed on the way to the slums. Then Mazzy threatens Gorf the Squisher, using haste and strength to carve him up. We have to leave Jan at home, finding a cure for his friend in the sewers. We've found the time and money to get the shadow dragon scales forged into a fine suit of armour too.

Poison, domination and hold under the Graveyard.
Mazzy doesn't like spiders and we have to rest a few times to ensure I can remove poison. Jaheira only has to cure me once.

I am dominated by the first vampire we see, forcing Jaheira to dispel all our buffs. Jan bruiser mate stuns a hasted clay golem and we stake the first undead bloodsucker.

Jaheira swaps the helm of charm protection for the helm of Balduran and we continue. A greater ghoul stuns me though, forcing a quick rescue. Mazzy fishes out a mace and we call it a day before one of us dies.

More family hassle.
Now Mazzy has a sister in trouble. There is barely time to rescue a man buried alive before leaving for Trademeet. Once we arrive we are attacked by wild animals. One problem at a time please, they are queueing up.

Mazzy returns once her sister is cured and we set off again. A druid called Cernd is waiting for us at a druid grove so plenty of work. Two more tasks are added at the temple of Helm.

Illithium.
Helm like the tarnished alloy better than the real thing, and Cromwell upgrades the mace of disruption with the real stuff. Neb's head has been handed in and a ring returned to Dawnbringer Sain.

Vampire lair.
We buff, kill one vampire and move in on Tanova. Jan tries to remove magic but it doesn't appear to work. Mazzy, Jaheira and I all get stunned then held and Mazzy gets mazed. Jan summons a berserk warrior and some wand hobgoblins but Tanova launches a fireball.

I put my hand in the air, I've had enough Tanova. She laughs and I start to crumble away.

@Gate, condolences. Maybe carry a priest and use Chaotic Commands next time? My hat is off to anyone who can survive for any length of time without it. I usually sacrifice in other areas and carry an extra cleric just to make sure I can keep my parties covered with CC. I'm not sure what your setup is, but I know I have a "Chaotic Commands protects against stun" feature turned on - I think it's in either Tweaks or SCS.

@Corey, condolences.

I think I know what might have happened - there is a bug in the controls I've noticed, where, if you order the party to concentrate their attacks on a creature, and that creature dies before everyone has attacked, and you then start trying to issue new orders, the party members who didn't get to attack the now-dead creature will begin running towards it, and the only way to stop them is to pause the game and give each runner a new location point manually.

What a shame to lose a no-reload that was going so well to a control glitch! That's why I myself prefer to just stay in the minimal reload threads. There's so much pressure in no-reload! But I guess that's the satisfacton of it, too, if you make it all the way to Mel. It's the trying to create a perfect game, like a flawless diamond. You can still sell the flawed diamond for a lot of money, but it's just not the same, I guess.

Good luck with your next runs.

P.S. - This would also be a good time to remind all paladin players that they need to have their bags filled with Potions of Genius, and to keep one active at all times while fighting illithids. Merely trying to stay away and let the party fight them for you is too risky, because there are too many ways one of them can still get to you.

Jaheira had chaotic commands but 2 spell slots with iron skins and insect plague selected. I don't have any stun mods though.

Corey, just re-read your approach. I'd just assumed the improved mace of disruption would sort her out, and the only person to wield it (Mazzy) had no dual-wielding pips so I'd equipped a shield instead of her sword that protects from stun. It's been so long since I got this far that I forget how deadly she can be.

Indeed, Tanova is deadly even in vanilla. She's especially deadly to solo players - besides stun, she also has maze in her arsenal! She mazed a level 15 fighter of mine once that way which ended his run...

@Begrarath -- I agree with you to avoid this I should have used potions of genius. I had them in the potion bag, I should have had 3 potions of genius active on Detman to be safe. It seemed a waste for a guy who is supposed to stay in the back....

Asati the wild mage continues her adventure in Shadows of Amn.

No mods apart from True Grandmastery Tweak. I'm going to play a party of 6 mages (5 until I get to Imoen). I also intend to have Nahal's Reckless Dweomer as Asati's favourite spell.

Asati and Imoen escped Irenicus' dungeon without any troubles, using mostly Agannazar's, Fireballs, Lightnings an Minor Globes of Invulnerabillity (and a hasted ogre berserker to deal with mephit portals). For a second time she had a vanishing gold wild surge, but this time she didn't have much to loose. After Imoen was taken by the Cowled, Asati stashed some items, rested, and went to entertain herself in the circus, and ended up with a new companion. Together with Aerie, she visited Gaelan Bayle and went to goverment district, were she recruited Jan Jansen. Back in the slums she agreed to Nalia's offer. Before going to her castle, though, newly formed party freed the gladiators. While on their way to Nalia's home, they encountered a dying man and somehow managed not to kill him during the fight with his assailants. They took him to his harper friends and did Xzar's quest. Then they stashed the loot in the graveyard (with Asati's wild surges it's not wise to carry large amounts of money around).

Finally, party reached D'Arnise stronghold and get to killing trolls. With 4 mages I found it somewhat less irritating then it usually was. While looting the castle, party found a scroll of Mordenkainen Sword (Asati is going to learn it as soon as she gets drunk enough, so that she can cast it with Nahal's). Items from the hall of golems were retrieved by sanctuaried Aerie. Glaicas killed Jan, before he was dominated. Asati couldn't get him to talk, so she finally killed him. Jan was resurrected by Aerie. Umber hulks were lured away. Torgal was easily separated from his fellows as he can see through invisibillity, while they don't. It took quite a lot of Fireballs and Lightnings to take him down (whole party was protected by Globes), as he had some magic resistance, and party has no means of taking it down yet. Fight with the other trolls was harder, as there weren't many spells left. Asati managed to summon a fire elemental using Nahal's, but soon learned to regret it – mental fight had immobilized her for some time, and trolls were already dead when it was finished. Moments later the elemental turned against the party, and they had no more spells to kill him. Aerie used wand of frost, and then Asati got lucky with Nahal's – she managed to cast doubled Vampiric Touch, which killed the elemental.

Party status:
Asati – wild mage 11, 63 HP,  fav. spell: Cure Light Wounds, damn it. It was Agannazar's for a time, then Magic Missle or Cure
Nalia – thief 4/mage 11, 64 HP, fav. spell: Magic Missle
Aerie – cleric 10/mage 11, 46 HP (with Helm of Balduran), fav. spell: Stoneskin
Jan Jansen – illusionist 10/thief 11, 48 HP, fav. spell: Magic Missle

Final update on Asati:

Outside of the castle Asati managed to cast a Contingency (Invisibillity if helpless) using Nahal’s. She was very happy with it, even though Jan and Aerie were complaining about the burns (they were standing to close). Back in Athkathla she bought some potions and learned Mordenkainen’s Sword. She also bought the Robe of Vecna.

During Renal’s quest (the part with killing wizard for Edwin), party was attacked by dominated thieves. Aerie confused cleric’s Mental Domination with mage’s Domination and party had to run from the Cowled. While resting at the Seas’ Bounty Tavern party attacked some pirates in their hideout. Few fireballs killed everyone but the mage. While trying to finish him with Magic Missles (using Nahal’s, of course) Asati summoned a demon – great fun. But the smile had died on her lips when the demon ignored the enemy mage and charged at the party. He paralyzed Nalia and started beating her. Dispells didn’t work and enemy summoned some creatures. Fortunately, demon didn’t like them and turned against them. Then Asati tried to summon a Mordenkainen Sword. A she did – two of them, in fact, thanks to area effect wild surge. They quickly hacked and slashed all the opposition.

When party finally reached their destination (the wizard’s home) they quickly cleared the first floor, using Globes of Invulnerabillity, Web and Fireballs. As for the stone golems on the second floor, Asati decided to summon some swords on the first level and lure the golems downstairs. When part left the building, she got to work. With first Nahal’s she created a fireball, so she cast Protection from Fire and continued. Second time she got a fake explosion. Third time she turned herself to stone.

You won’t see Asati on the screenshot as she was invisible during the whole event.

@Blackmalkin, condolences. That Flesh to Stone on self seems to be a real show-stopper for wild mages.

You're welcome to continue in minimal reload - it might be fun to see what happens with even higher levels and into ToB.

Picenon the level 7 fighter/level 8 thief entering Trilogy No-Reload Challenge.

Here is Picenon's starting BG 2 stats:
HP=72
Posted Image
** Quarterstaff
** shortbow
** longsword

While the quarterstaff and shortbow were easy choices, the next 2 pips were hard to decide. Eventually I decided on long sword -- Namura is excellent damage ratio for a +2 one-hand weapon. In addition, this will allow use of the long sword of flame, both to kill trolls as well as disrupt mages when their PfMW wears off. Will also facilitate use of the daystar, though the IMoD will be my preferred choice when facing level-draining enemies. Speaking of which, the next two pips will be for maces. Finally, as a fighter, I won't take a very bad Thac0 hit when using Azuredge against golems.

So far I've rescued Minsc and Jaheira and kicked them and Imoen out, it's solo all the way. The intent is to take Picenon as far as I can solo. Of course, when I die, will post about him in either minimal reload thread if they accept me, else start a campfire thread. The reasoning is I want Picenon to be a sort of "scout". If I can take him all the way to Melissan, for example, then I will know what to do in an actual no-reload solo of a fighter/thief. Of course, that isn't stopping me from entering the no-reload until Picenon dies.

Picenon has taken out the jailer, the first wave of goblins, the goblins guarding the 2nd entrance to the "sewers", and 3 different mephits. His preference is backstabbing, but sometimes he has trouble hiding, in which case he switches to fighter mode. While he will do most of the dungeon, he will pass on the plane with the genie -- those mephits have destroyed a previous incarnation of Picenon, his HIS always seems to fail when he tries to run past them. He doesn't need a 2-hand sword, and of course experience is hardly a problem when solo.
