Picenon the solo level 24 fighter / level 28 thief continues his adventure - FINAL SoA Update
When we last heard from Picenon, he was in Suldanessar. He was on his way to the temple but met a bunch of rakshashas. He opened with a backstab, which did not one shot the enemy, and ran away. Two Rakshashas followed, and then Picenon backstabbed again then finished these two via melee.
By the way, should comment that at this point he was using the human flesh +5, sword of balduran, shield of the lost, AoP and the two rings of gaxx which put his 60% magic resist. I prefer this setup than using Carsomyr, one because I can backstab, and two can use a shield. This still puts his saves very negative (even after a malison!), 60% magic resistance, the inertial barrier belt and lots of HP. Therefore, he did one more backstab to finish off the rakshasha who took the first hit and finished the rest off in straight melee -- Picenon was not afraid of them.
As for the temple enemies, there's no point fighting them as PIcenon is VERY close to the ToB level cap. So he put the 3 items in the center object, whatever it is -- interesting you CANNOT put the items in while invisible! I had to show myself before the game would let me do it. Guess it's to force the dialog that happens. The resulting reward of the druid staff is actually helpful, another item with a summon -- fairly weak, but could help in some situations.
I headed to the palace and destroyed Irenicus parasites, very easily though he did use his gaxx haste just to speed things up. Ellesime told Picenon that Irenicus that he is currently untouchable. Really? But are his wizardry skills better than thief skills? Picenon thinks not.

Picenon was right, Irenicus was instantly killed --
this is it right? But no, somehow Irenicus dragged Picenon to hell...
Picenon was tasked with getting 5 tears of bhaal. Picenon started from the right side, going clock-wise. He did all the good routes except one, which I should explain in more detail. For the tear where you are given the blackrazor, Picenon looked closely at it. The reason why is Picenon's highest enchantment 1 hand weapon that also can backstab AND also is specialized (long swords only) is just the blade of roses -- even though blackrazor same enchantment, would say it's much more effective. Secondly, the alignment change doesn't hurt PIcenon as he is not a paladin or ranger, and also has UAI.
So he ended up battling the genie, which I can't remember doing before. Before the fight PIcenon laid three spike traps somewhat back, mainly because he wasn't sure if dialog would happen without interaction if he got too close (which it did). The genie opened with impressive buffs and a meteor storm I think. Picenon backed off and hid, but still got hit with a meteor storm again. Picenon moved back to the genie and dispelled illusions. Genie summoned a pit fiend. Once the genie's illusions were dispelled, PIcenon backed off and hid again. Genie did a poorly timed sunfire and caused his own pit fiend to attack him. While the two were battling, wait, is this cloudkills-from-the-shadows time again? Yes, it was! The cloudkills killed the genie, whoopee. The pit fiend fired a fireball or something like that at Picenon and chased him. Picenon figured the fiend wasnt too bright so ran past his traps.
Sure enough, the pit fiend triggered them and was slain - this tear is Picenon's (as is the black razor).
Before getting the last tear (Sarevok), Picenon used the tears he had, which gave him immunity to +1 weapons. He noticed he got 15 HP too, that doesn't look familiar, suspect it's from killing the genie. In any case, Sarevok was no threat with his "excellent" two hand sword, though Picenon did use some ring of gaxx haste just to speed things along.
Picenon rested and prepared to deal with Irenicus. He didn't bother with his short-lasting summons, so instead just uses the summons from the staff of air, staff of fire and the +4 druid staff. He also laid down an exploding trap at the initial spawn place of Irenicus (which wasn't effective), and 6 more traps to the right. Sometimes Ireincus jumps to that area, though he didn't this time. Buffs are ilbratha and hardiness. See prep below.

I wanted to use a shield so used blackrazor. I know the demons have a number of bad effects, so used the human flesh +5 for armor for its saves (though of course it's magic resistance sure helps). Picenon's opening play? Greater Whirlwind (GWW here on in) on a Glabrezu.

He has auto-pause on target gone, so switched to the other one, the GWW was still active and it burned that one down quickly as well:

Okay, Irenicus was doing things too, like killing some of my summons. I ignored him, did GWW again, and just like before
managed to kill both balors on the same GWW (guess it helps to be the only target which keeps them close so the GWW isn't wasted). Once they were down, Picenon used his detect illusions to get rid of Irenicus simulcrum, or at least I assume that's what it is.
All right time to scout, okay Irenicus is in the south portion of the area..fire elemental running around in fear. Irenicus tries a true sight but it's useless, still using cloak of non-detection. Picenon thought, okay Irenicus has ton of melee protections like improved mantle, stoneskins, not to mention contigencies like protection from magic weapons, how about fight fire with fire (e.g. magic). You guessed it, it's cloudkills from the shadows time! This worked for a while, but Irenicus eventually saw him - tried to cast maze, but thanks to his haste boots Picenon got out of range in time...Picenon scouted around and saw his cloudkills were only hurting Irenicus simulcrum again (or maybe a mislead, not sure). Picenon tried to detect illusions but it did nothiing...hmmm..meanwhile the invisible Irenicus was apporaching Picenon....
Picenon, thought, wait you WANT to chase me and not cast spells? Okay, Irenicus, how about chasing me here? Are you foolish enough?

The answer was, YES, Irenicus was indeed foolish enough and paid the price, Picenon has regained his soul. Interestingly enough this fight gave Picenon TWO levels. It also put him at the ToB experience cap. And gave him his last proficiency -- yes can use Hindo's doom with better than 1 APR.
PIcenon was sent by the Queen of Suldanessar to a grove to talk to some statues...that's where he will rest and consider his next plans...
