Picenon the level 14 fighter/level 17 thief continues his adventure...

Just a quick note...Picenon has destroyed the beholder cult (the long way)...he met a rather scary mass of undead, which included skeletal warriors, greater mummies and a lich, and others...Picenon used a pro-undead scroll to deal with this, and a haste potion, he certainly didn't want to see the reaction once his protection expired...nevertheless, because they WERE so high level, Picenon got his 3,000,000 experience! Whoopee!

UAI was of course the first HLA obtained. This turned out to be great timing, actually as Picenon has a fully charged cloudkill wand in his bag of holding...for those of you who followed Picenon in BG 1, he did Fireballs-from-the-Shadows ™ many times in many battles...now it's Cloudkill-from-the-Shadows!
Posted Image
Note that Picenon has non-detection so the enemies can't even find him if they wanted to...

There was a great mass of beholders and gauths..rather than slowly whittle them down with a one-hand melee weapon, Picenon used cloudkills for much faster kills, which also got his level 14 fighter level.

There is ONE major drawback to solo play...takes forever to sell, as I can only sell a little bit at a time, get in the bag of holding and put some in the backpack, talk to the merchant, repeat. Sometime selling takes more time than the fighting itself...

I wasn't sure at first what the answer was Grond0, but via trial and error looks like I found it - when I wear the haste boots I got from the planar prison, my attacks per round with a long sword is 3, but when I take off the boots it's 5/2, so apparently its the boots that is giving me that extra 1/2 an attack. Never knew that, I thought they were just movement in BG 1, but guess it's different in BG 2 vanilla.

Interesting - they don't do that in my game, so probably nerfed by the fixpack.

Kami has just become the latest in my line of also rans. He did the Harper HQ after saving Renfeld and then went to the De'Arnise Hold. The aim was to use improved invisibility to protect against the spirit trolls greater commands. That worked at first, but for some reason I thought the casting time for that spell was 4 or 5 so that Kami would have time to activate his ring after seeing a spirit troll - wrong again:

Ud7;

@corey_russell, What’s your armour going to be... “Human Flesh +5”, “Jansen AdventureWear”, “Corthala Family Armor” or “The Night's Gift +5”?

Taking back what’s mine;

Posted Image

I decided to kick Amber for Jan and Mazzy then get Amber back first because I wanted the “Abyssal Pipe” before I entered the planner prison...

In the meantime;

Posted Image

I took Anomen to his dad so he could talk about his sister... convinced him that the best course was to have the murderer legally dealt with, accompanied Nalia to her dad’s funeral, let my familiar borrow a ring from Ribald, helped Jaheira get over a nasty curse, payed to have my berserker horn upgraded & survived no less than four different ambushes.

Posted Image  Posted Image  Posted Image

I decided to kill the ranger door guard (nice sword) and used the corridor to funnel guards onto my traps before going demon hunting upstairs... a single ‘Chromatic Orb’ was enough to finish off Ymmyrt.

Scavenger hunt;

Posted Image  Posted Image  Posted Image

I’m taking a personal moment to collect the ore for “Mace of Disruption +2” before busting the BF out of prison... I let the familiar carry the heavy load.

BF reunion;

As I stepped through the portal I noticed that (this time) most the villains were in front of me... excellent.  Do’Dad ran in and dropped a ‘Clouldkill’ from “Abyssal Pipe” & the rest of us whittled them down with range attacks whilst Alyssia dealt with the exception that tried to creep up behind us.

Posted Image  Posted Image

The Master of Thralls gave me some trouble and actually managed to kill Alyssia with his last gasp but the standard ‘Death Fog’ (from scroll) dispatched the Warden without incident.

Stay tuned for the start of chapter three.

Good question. At the moment, it's the Night's Gift +5. However, I am seriously considering skipping the Ust Natha quests, as for once I do not need anything the drow merchants have and killing Adalon for her blood, for the Human Flesh +5. Mainly because that plus Carsomyr and the 2 kangaxx rings would put Picenon's magic resistance to more than 100%! Let's see Johnny boy get through that...

You're right about the Corthala Family Armor though, that would be pretty decent until then. But I like the help hiding the shadows from the night''s gift for now, so probably will keep that until I can make the human flesh armor.

Of course, for pure AC the shadow dragon armor would be superior...I will be engaging that dragon shortly, just need the AoP...

@Grondo, condolences. I guess your timing has to be absolutely perfect to survive solo with all those difficulty increases.

@Corey, keep up the good work. Good luck if you go up against Thax-a-sysss-a-sousul or whatever her name is.

@USSNorway, good job. You make very exciting screen shots of your battles. Looks like that fight with the warden was a nail-biter. I always get really nervous coming into that one.

Picenon the solo level 15 fighter / level 18 thief adventure continues...

So Picenon has finally obtained and is using the amulet of power -- vampires, now I'm willing to fight you. First though, there's a certain shadow dragon that needs a talking to...

I head to Thaxxlsillyia's lair - that's right still have the shadow dragon wardstone. Okay fine, let's put 4 snares an a single spike trap all around the dragon. Moved a way a bit, an opened fire with my Tuiagan's short bow...the result? A little bit anti-climatic, once hostile, Thaxxsillyia triggered all traps, killing her/it instantly.
Posted Image  So Picenon loots the scales and soon after has shadow dragon armor, which he uses now for the higher AC.

There's that annoying Captain Dennis, perhaps we should talk to too. There isn't enough room to do the cloudkills from the shadows, so Picenon changed his tactic a bit. At point blank range, Picenon fired a cloudkill at Captain Dennis party, went improved invisible via ring, and repeated once more...Picenon just waited just out of range and watched to be sure no enemy escaped...
Posted Image
Captain Dennis was the only survivor of this, so Picenon backstabbed him to put him out of his misery.

Picenon had gotten deep into Firkraag's lair (Picenon obtained two levels too), but then the game crashed -- and as I had no autosave until all the way back to th Rakshasha with the fire resistance ring...have to do the area again, grrrr..I really need to remember to quicksave after every major battle...

@Corey, Dang, I hate those game crashes! I also try to remember to quicksave every battle, but crashes happen so extremely rarely, it gets easy to forget, especially when excited and immersed.

Hopefully you can duplicate the same results.

@Belgarath: Thankfully I was able to duplicate the results. I got massive experience from the vampires in this area...some of the vampires were 14500 experience each! Some even required a +3 weapon to hit! Pretty crazy, but Picenon laid some traps, backstabbed, ran away and hid and backstabbed, etc. Without the AoP hwoever, he'd be in serious trouble against those vamps...

I laid some traps, including two spike traps for Samia and her gang...her gang is actually pretty tough as the traps I don't think killed anyone...however the traps PLUS Picenon firing a cloudkill/improved invisible, repeat once more than just watch the carnage in safety.
Posted Image

Golems were beat either Azuredge or Staff of Rhynn..but with the 1 APR of the Azuredge, sure took a while...

The group of greater wolfweres were skipped...not certain I have the dps to overcome their regen...dont need their experience in any case...

The orogs (including Tazok) in the area were beat by backtabs/run away/hide and repeat. The boots of speed sure help this kind of task a lot.

I laid 3 normal snares in Conster's spawn point...he ddn't survive the traps.

As for Firkraag himself...he managed to heal himself 3 times...took forever to kill him via the Cloudkills-from-the-Shadows ™ strategy about 16 cloudkills at once to be exact. I did have 5 spike traps laid in reserve, just in case he moved out of the cloudkills. PIceon also had 115% fire resistance, so he actually probably could have beaten Firkraag in a fair fight.
Posted Image

Picenon made this red dragon armor...it's great armor if he wants to tank instead of being a thief.

Next target: Illithids in the sewers. Strategy? Cloudkills from the shadows, wear the night's gift +5, as it's important to successfully hide after firing a cloudkill or they will move to his position. If he must melee an illithid, he will use fighter armor. With HoB, Fortress shield and red dragon armor and 2 gaxx rings, his AC is -14. From experience I know that illithids cannot hit him except with criticals. Also their mojo (stuns and such) wont' work as PIcenon's saves are all quite negative.

Picenon the level 17 fighter/level 20 thief continues his adventure solo...Illithids in Sewers and Rune Hideout in Bridge District...

@Gate70: Thanks for the tip about opening the bag while talking to the merchant, should make it a less frustrating experience to sell now...

As mentioned in my previous post, Picenon did use the Cloudkills-from-the-Shadows ™ against the Illithids. And also as anticipated, if he failed his hide, then enemies would approach his postion. However, as he went along Picenon laid traps as a fall-back position, which only tripped twice.

Someone may think not giving the enemies a chance is cheap, but the illithids firing their illithid psionic blasts at Picenon, WHILE hidden AND through solid walls and doors is pretty cheap too! Fair is fair...Picenon got a level here, and now that he has 6 spike traps he went for whirlwind.

After destroying the Illithids base in the sewers, PIcenon then decided to pay a visit to the Twisted Rune hideout in the Bridge District. Fun fight here.

First, I laid 4 spike traps in the opening area. May be overkill, but I need the area clear to hide in the shadows again and I can't do that if Shandalar survives his spawn into here -- fortunately he did not survive the traps.
Posted Image

Picenon then fired two more cloudkills from this cubby hole and also did death spell (via spell). I never did see the pit fiend...This caused thief to approach and he was taken down with simple melee.

More cloudkills, but the beholder Vaxall saw Picenon. Picenon went invisible then meleed. Picenon didn't even bother with the shield of balduran. He did take some damaqe from cause serious wounds, but no biggie.
Posted Image

Picneon tried to backstab Shyressa, but missed (or so I thought initially). He then ran to his cubby hole and tried to backstab the vampire again, then says weapon ineffective. That's a poewrful vampire that needs +3 to hit. So used the blade of roses and slaughtered it.

Posted Image

Only the mage Layene lett. As she's humanoid, Picenon tried to cloudkill her a few times but she saw him. He booked it to the cubby hole and hid in the shadows. Layene then Time Stopped and did...nothing. Nice. Picenon did more cloudkills, She chased him but he ran way and hid again, this time to the right. Few more cloudkills and then she was done for.
Posted Image
Staff of Magi is now Picenon's. In vanilla the SoM can't backstab. Nevertheless, it's invisibility combined with Picenon's cloak of non-detection easily could prove invaluable -- Picenon could use it go invisible and then move to an area where he CAN hide in the shadows then equip a backstabbable weapon and repeat. Can also save Picenon if he gets in a jam, though so far he's taken care of himself well.

After leaving the hide-out, PIcenon got a scroll of cold resistance...he intends to slay Adalon later, so this will help Picenon. I'm uncertain if she can be slain via Cloudkills-via-the-shadows ™, but it's worth a try. I know Imoen soloed her one time for me, if a single character gets as close to the entrance as possible, Adalon cant' reach. You need to use a weapon with good range though, like a bow.

Picenon agaes ago bought potions of fire resistance and potions of explosions to deal wtih Panai and get Kithix. He finally did that. Ironically, PIcenon can get 100% fire resistance via equipment now, as well as has poison immunity. Picenon also cleared out the spiders in the general area and detrapped the place. He didn't bother with the mass of undead in the crypts used in Korgan's quest..he certainly doesnt need the experience.

Picenon will do the planar sphere next.

Good luck.

Tunner, LG male elf stalker. With Minsc, Jaheira and "The Yoshimo?"

An insect plague allows me to deal with Prebek and co while Minsc, Jaheira and Yoshimo fight amongst themselves. We head to the nearest inn to celebrate, only for Jaheira to be poisoned by Baron Ployer and his teleporting mages.

Yoshimo hurls a special snare as soon as we find Ployer. Jaheira adds an insect plague and Jaheira has her cure. Xzar is assassinated shortly afterwards, as Jaheira leaves with Meriona. On her return I am informed we must again visit the Harper headquarters. Somehow I doubt things will turn out well, a sentiment lost on Minsc but not on the rest of us.

You know when you've been Yoshimo'd premonition eh
Posted Image

Jaheira summons an insect plague. The mage is out of reach meaning a lesser earth elemental is summoned. Minsc is the first to fall. Kail is badly wounded so Jaheira and Yoshimo will manage there. Wrong. Jaheira is killed and Yoshimo has to run. Kail hits him for 54 and chunks him.

This leaves me fighting alone. I hit Kail twice but Galvarey has switched to melee and is hasted. Time to depart, only for a backstab to stop me in my tracks. I raise my hand in defeat.

@Gate70: Sorry to hear about your debacle at the Harper Hold. That fight especially, I think Yoshimo is moreffective if he starts the fight with a backstab. True Seeing/True Sight extremely helpful there too.

Summons are helpful too for distractions -- Fire Elementals by Jaheira are effective, but even one like the berserker via horn would give you time.

Quick Update on Picenon:

Picenon has destroyed the enemies in the planar sphere. The two groups of halfling mages and Tolgerias were defeated by cloudkills-from-the-shadows, everything else melee. Carsomyr used extensively here, with all the magic opponents.

New weapon config, I am using the Staff of Rhynn as my main weapon now. The reason why is this way can equip the staff of magi at the same time. Now I can invis simply clicking the SoM, hide the shadows and backstab. This also allows quick switch with the staff of air or fire when I need some summons. His AC is -8 with the shadow dragon armor, and I think that's good enough for most situations.

Picenon the level 19 fighter/level 23 thief continues his adventure...

Not a lot to do, before I have to do the main story line. I did the Sir Sarles quest, though I kept the illithium for the IMoD.

Next up was the Guarded Compound in the Temple District. The summons were little trouble...as for the party, Picenon laid assortment of snares downstairs, staggered as well so PIcenon can lure the enemies to them if needed. He went upstairs while invisible, and detrapped the two traps by the stair entrance.

Next he fired a cloudkill and went downstairs. Unfortunately only one enemy ate the spike traps. So Picenon ran away, hid, then backstabbed and run away again. The enemies tripped more snares, then Picenon's last attack finally finished all the melees. Only 2 casters left, upstairs.

Thanks to the cloak of non-detection, PIcenon's play was simple -- move away from the casters and do his patented cloudkill-from-the-shadows strategy. No problem looting the place being a very competent thief himself.

Before dealing with the vampires, Picenon purchased a fireball wand (the one from Chateau Irenicus) -- PIcenon remembered which vendor had it. Cloudkill from the shadows doesn't work on undead, but fireballs do, hence the purchase.

After doing tasks for Linvail, was time to deal with the vampires directly. With his -12 AC and AoP, the vampires were no problem. The large ambush downstairs and Tanova were both finished via fireballs from the shadows. You can see Picenon at work below:
Posted Image

As for Bodhi, 4 spike traps were laid -- PIcenon did a few buffs, but it was unnecessary, as the spike traps ended the fight as soon as it began.

Posted Image

Picenon reported his success to Linvail and then was on the ship to Brynnlaw. Picenon purchased a few more genius potions, just in case. He got rid of a local prostitute ring. And a cowled wizard adept had the the misfortunte of impeding Picenon's progress, and was backstabbed into oblivion...

PIcenon will be in Spellhold next update...

@corey_russell, consider grabbing an exploding trap as insurance for your spike traps, for example; let’s say you are facing a dragon plus two smaller minions.

By setting the spike exploding traps closer (to go off first) you can blast the minions away but the dragon is a large target and will run through it onto your waiting spike traps… probably won’t need it until you get to the harder bosses in Tob but I just thought I’d mention it.

@BelgarathMTH, the Warden himself is a very simple boss.

I just sneak forward until I can see one of the minions then step back and cast ‘Death Fog’ (from scroll) onto the ground by his feet. Now take a couple more steps back so no one can target you and just count slowly to 20.

If I’m in a group I send someone to release the thrulls to be fair to them (so they can die free) & plant traps/ summon adds just in case I slip up and the boss sends his solders after me but I play no-reload and it’s rare that I make that big a mistake.
Edit; I was so sure that I said exploding that my mind keep seeing the word... fixed now. Posted Image

@USSNorway -- I do have an exploding trap, thanks. Also a time trap. And actually with 6 spike traps, exploding trap, assassination, time trap, and UAI, I've been putting HLAs into some fighter HLAs like GWW and Hardiness. He's well prepared for enemies...he's not really expecting a challenge really until ToB.

Picenon the level 21 fighter/level 25 thief continues his solo adeventure...Craziness.

@USSNorway: I do have Greater Evasion now, but didn't in my post you were referring to.

As Picenon was working his way out of Spell hold, he realized he didn't even need to kill everything...he's at 6,000,000 experience so far, he really just needs to get Adalon's blood and continue the main story line...

So Picenon passed up Saemon's offer of "help" and went straight to the Underdark. The 3 illithids north of him were killed via cloudkills via the shadows...

Picenon's intent? Fight the demon to get the light gem, fight Adalon and get the heck out! Strange stuff happened while trying to do this though...for one, an air elemental followed Picenon, though he was invisible and in non-detection...Picenon ran all the way to the gnome village and only stopped to kill Kua-Toa leader who I can't hide from...as I was talking to the Mayor, I saw text saying the Myconids and the air elemental were battling it out...that was interesting.

The demon didn't get chance to do anything, 7 traps were laid. I rested and ran toward's Adalon's lair, I saw this:
Posted Image
I found out later the gnomes don't have magical weapons, just a few darts of stunning...poor guys they never had a chance against that air elemental...

As it turned out I had to fight one more Kua-Toa in the south area of cavern...well, cloudkill from the shadows is not effective with Kua-Toas that's for sure. So ended up meleeing him...right after that guy died, who showed up the same air elemental! It was near death so easy 7000 experience, not that I was really looking for any...

Time to run to Adalon's lair. I laid 6 spike traps and an exploding trap. I put up cold resistance (via scroll). I was forced to turn into a drow and talk to her, despite being as confrontational in the dialogue as I could. This was all for naught, though, as it turned out you CAN kill Adalon via cloudkills from the shadows! Took a ton though 16 I think, as she healed herself a few times.
Posted Image

I got the blood, recharged my cloudkill wand and rested. Time to go through the Kua-Toa lair...ewww...they see invis, I have to fight them all. What a pain especially their mages...here I got this "brilliant" idea, what if I put on a haste potion to make me run even faster and hit the chapter change exit? I don't think they can follow when the chapters change...this might be true but I hit a huge snag when trying it...the kua-toa boxed me in right after I went through the warded temple door...I coudln't move through it fast as I was blocked and had to kill something to move through, but now that I was through it didn't help as I couldn't move! Yikes! Now I have something like 16 Kua-toa beating on me, and both drow war parties on both sides of the entrance to the Temple! I run back to the Kua-Toa lair, but I'm boxed in, I can't move.

There were at least 20 enemies, maybe more whaling on me. I started with hardiness and tried to do a few cloudkills, but was taking a lot of damage, kept trying to heal (via potion). I got real low in health, like 1/7 health. When I had the chance, I tried to do GWW and WW to whitttle down the enemies. I thought for sure I was finished...as it turned out, I was saved...by the 3 superior healing potions you get at Watcher's Keep 1st level. I don't have RoR yet.

After the last drow summon was dead, I breathed a sigh of relief and got out of my own cloudkill, only to be attacked by a gauth! How did he get way up here? I put up my shield of balduran and got rid of it. I potioned to full health, put up a magic protection potion, and decided that I had to melee the enemies on the other side of this temple gate...I did kill them all. I then ignored all the drow and elves fighting each other triggering the chapter change...

That was a close call, thought for sure I was finished, though without HLAs I am sure I would have been done for.

All right all this work, time to get my human flesh +5. In order to get it, had to fight a few powerful mages..I had laid spike traps, but I didnt know where they spawned and wasted most of them, and they wouldn't move into them either...so had to whittle them down. However, I was using Carsomyr and potion of magic protection, their fall was certain.

With Carsomyr, the human flesh +5, 2 rings of gaxx, and AoP Picenon's magic resistance is 95%...once he gets the amulet of the seldarine it will be 100%.

I believe I can take out Irenicus in the final two fights with him with spike traps alone. Saves are excellent too, all -5 or lower.

Definitely the main story line from here on in. I would be shocked if I don't beat SoA now, but ToB another matter entirely, just so many enemies...

Sell the wand to the vendor, then buy it back. The fireball wand I mentioned in one of my posts, for example, had just one charge. When I bought it back from the vendor, it had 50 charges. Costs some dough, but for a solo player like myself, well worth it.

Picenon the level 23 fighter/level 27 thief continues his adventure...

Picenon bought a few items from Ribald's then dealt with Bodhi's guild once more. His AC was -11, more than enough for the trash vampires. He didn't bother to be a thief, he just used the IMoD on them all.

As for Bodhi herself, Picenon did hardiness, Ilbratha, and GWW. She could not survive this assasult...

PIcenon then dealt with the statues on the first level of Watcher's Keep...they were much easier than I remembered...though that might just be the spike traps talking...too bad I didn't put any points in scimitars, as I found a great thief usuable scimitar here...

I reported my success to Elhan, or should say was about to, when I saw this:
Posted Image
Yikes! If these drow kill Elhan, my game is finished! I of course finished these all off....I don't remember fighting here before...could these be the drow that followed my chapter transition? As if I needed more evidence my plan in the Kua-Toa lair was bad...the elves helped me fortunately.

After reporting to Elhan went to Suldanessar. Here I changed armor many times, depending if I was fighting magic or melee opponents. Despite -16 AC to blunt damage, PIcenon took HUGE damage to the various golems here. He did survive, the tanking the adamanite golems in particular was a pretty scary process, as they were hititng for 45 damage...woe to you a low CON character!

Despite the 95 MR, the powerful mage by Denim's place did tons of damage, had to RoR heal in fact.

Finally time for Nizi. I laid some traps as s backup plan and tried to take Nizi in a fair fight. Despite -13 AC, PIcenon was getting hammered and had to lead Nizi to the traps and finished it.
Posted Image

Picenon is still working his way through Suldanessr, he is only about 600,000 experience from the level cap.

Great job, Corey! Very thrilling. It's like reading a good superhero comic book.

Picenon the solo level 24 fighter / level 28 thief continues his adventure - FINAL SoA Update

When we last heard from Picenon, he was in Suldanessar. He was on his way to the temple but met a bunch of rakshashas. He opened with a backstab, which did not one shot the enemy, and ran away. Two Rakshashas followed, and then Picenon backstabbed again then finished these two via melee.

By the way, should comment that at this point he was using the human flesh +5, sword of balduran, shield of the lost, AoP and the two rings of gaxx which put his 60% magic resist. I prefer this setup than using Carsomyr, one because I can backstab, and two can use a shield. This still puts his saves very negative (even after a malison!), 60% magic resistance, the inertial barrier belt and lots of HP. Therefore, he did one more backstab to finish off the rakshasha who took the first hit and finished the rest off in straight melee -- Picenon was not afraid of them.

As for the temple enemies, there's no point fighting them as PIcenon is VERY close to the ToB level cap. So he put the 3 items in the center object, whatever it is -- interesting you CANNOT put the items in while invisible! I had to show myself before the game would let me do it. Guess it's to force the dialog that happens. The resulting reward of the druid staff is actually helpful, another item with a summon -- fairly weak, but could help in some situations.

I headed to the palace and destroyed Irenicus parasites, very easily though he did use his gaxx haste just to speed things up. Ellesime told Picenon that Irenicus that he is currently untouchable. Really? But are his wizardry skills better than thief skills? Picenon thinks not.

Picenon was right, Irenicus was instantly killed -- this is it right? But no, somehow Irenicus dragged Picenon to hell...

Picenon was tasked with getting 5 tears of bhaal. Picenon started from the right side, going clock-wise. He did all the good routes except one, which I should explain in more detail. For the tear where you are given the blackrazor, Picenon looked closely at it. The reason why is Picenon's highest enchantment 1 hand weapon that also can backstab AND also is specialized (long swords only) is just the blade of roses -- even though blackrazor same enchantment, would say it's much more effective. Secondly, the alignment change doesn't hurt PIcenon as he is not a paladin or ranger, and also has UAI.

So he ended up battling the genie, which I can't remember doing before. Before the fight PIcenon laid three spike traps somewhat back, mainly because he wasn't sure if dialog would happen without interaction if he got too close (which it did). The genie opened with impressive buffs and a meteor storm I think. Picenon backed off and hid, but still got hit with a meteor storm again. Picenon moved back to the genie and dispelled illusions. Genie summoned a pit fiend. Once the genie's illusions were dispelled, PIcenon backed off and hid again. Genie did a poorly timed sunfire and caused his own pit fiend to attack him. While the two were battling, wait, is this cloudkills-from-the-shadows ™ time again? Yes, it was! The cloudkills killed the genie, whoopee. The pit fiend fired a fireball or something like that at Picenon and chased him. Picenon figured the fiend wasnt too bright so ran past his traps. Sure enough, the pit fiend triggered them and was slain - this tear is Picenon's (as is the black razor).

Before getting the last tear (Sarevok), Picenon used the tears he had, which gave him immunity to +1 weapons. He noticed he got 15 HP too, that doesn't look familiar, suspect it's from killing the genie. In any case, Sarevok was no threat with his "excellent" two hand sword, though Picenon did use some ring of gaxx haste just to speed things along.

Picenon rested and prepared to deal with Irenicus. He didn't bother with his short-lasting summons, so instead just uses the summons from the staff of air, staff of fire and the +4 druid staff. He also laid down an exploding trap at the initial spawn place of Irenicus (which wasn't effective), and 6 more traps to the right. Sometimes Ireincus jumps to that area, though he didn't this time. Buffs are ilbratha and hardiness. See prep below.

I wanted to use a shield so used blackrazor. I know the demons have a number of bad effects, so used the human flesh +5 for armor for its saves (though of course it's magic resistance sure helps). Picenon's opening play? Greater Whirlwind (GWW here on in) on a Glabrezu.

He has auto-pause on target gone, so switched to the other one, the GWW was still active and it burned that one down quickly as well:

Okay, Irenicus was doing things too, like killing some of my summons. I ignored him, did GWW again, and just like before managed to kill both balors on the same GWW (guess it helps to be the only target which keeps them close so the GWW isn't wasted). Once they were down, Picenon used his detect illusions to get rid of Irenicus simulcrum, or at least I assume that's what it is.

All right time to scout, okay Irenicus is in the south portion of the area..fire elemental running around in fear. Irenicus tries a true sight but it's useless, still using cloak of non-detection. Picenon thought, okay Irenicus has ton of melee protections like improved mantle, stoneskins, not to mention contigencies like protection from magic weapons, how about fight fire with fire (e.g. magic). You guessed it, it's cloudkills from the shadows time! This worked for a while, but Irenicus eventually saw him - tried to cast maze, but thanks to his haste boots Picenon got out of range in time...Picenon scouted around and saw his cloudkills were only hurting Irenicus simulcrum again (or maybe a mislead, not sure). Picenon tried to detect illusions but it did nothiing...hmmm..meanwhile the invisible Irenicus was apporaching Picenon....

Picenon, thought, wait you WANT to chase me and not cast spells? Okay, Irenicus, how about chasing me here? Are you foolish enough?

The answer was, YES, Irenicus was indeed foolish enough and paid the price, Picenon has regained his soul. Interestingly enough this fight gave Picenon TWO levels. It also put him at the ToB experience cap. And gave him his last proficiency -- yes can use Hindo's doom with better than 1 APR.

PIcenon was sent by the Queen of Suldanessar to a grove to talk to some statues...that's where he will rest and consider his next plans...
