Multiplayer: Boor/Gate70 and Perry/Grond0
Session 3 : 2h, 4.40ish total.

Torgal
Trolls and golems are dispatched first. Perry rages to race past umber hulks, feeds them and escapes. Seems crazy, maybe is but it worked. Torgal falls to the FoA +3 wielded by Perry.

Shopping
Lots to sell, affording us an audience with Aran Linvail and a belt of hill giant strength for Boor.

Renfeld
Rescuing him from a gang leads to us clearing Prebek's house and retrieving an assassin for Xzar.

Crooked Crane
It's only a lich. Boor has equipped Azuredge but forgotten to select it and is closing in with the Stonefire axe. Perry discovers she needs a +4 weapon, so breaks into a locked crate as a pit fiend is summoned and time stop is cast together with meteor storm. Boor gets his head in gear and throws Azuredge to one-shot the lich.

Druid Grove
More trolls. We have to retreat from a mound as Perry is wounded and Boor is winded. He glugs a healing potion on the way out having being critically wounded (20 something) at one stage.

Stats
Boor, halfling berserker 10. 419 kills, lich. 51 kills this session.
Perry, dwarf barbarian 10. 429 kills, Torgal. 55 kills this session.
Boor had a good run in the de-Arnise hold but Perry still led the session.

Introduction....

Luna Nightingale, Female, Human, Kensai, Neutral Good, Str 17, Dex 18, Con 18, Int 11, Wis 10, Cha 10, **Longswords, **Scimitars, **Two Weapon Style.

Irenicus Dungeon
-------------------------
Luna and Minsc clean house combining for 98% of the kills, even though Jaheira was the tank throughout the place. Managed to have a full clear without one Identification scroll dropping.

Circus
-----------
I know most like to hold off on this when they attempt a dual class playthrough, but my PC was eager to show the city that she not a trouble maker. So clear the circus once again Minsc and Luna maul everything. This has been the smoothest clearing of both areas I've had in long time zero incidents where anyone took more than 10 - 20 damage.

Slum - CC
----------------
Jumped to chapter 2 then proceeded to the inn. Picked up Anomen and Nalia. We bid Jaheira and Minsc farewell. We gained admission to the backroom area. To Be Continued.

Even though I originally ruled out this playthrough I just couldn't make up my mind so I rolled up this toon. So far she proven to be very effective at killing. Her THAC0 is 4 atm with main hand, meaning she going to hit often against most trash mobs. Surprisingly her stats were rolled on initial load. So this toon might verywell be destin to succeed farther than the previous attempts. My future goal is to dual over to a Thief. Once I rescue Imoen she will be the final party member. So the group will be PC, Imoen, Anomen, and Nalia. So I expect an easier transition from thief to Kensai/thief as Luna will be recieving 25% of the experience gained.

Assuming one of the NPC should be killed permanently I'm most likely not to replace them. So the playthrough could end up being a Solo No Reload later on. Ideally I am aiming to dual at lvl 13, but I'm tempted to do a lvl 9 instead.

Multiplayer: Boor/Gate70 and Perry/Grond0
Session 4 : 45m, approx 5h30 total.

Druid grove
We recruit Cernd. He shapeshifts and attacks Faldorn, slowly wearing her down until she transforms into a panther and kills him. A trip to Trademeet has him on his feet again and reviewing spells (if only we remembered to rest...). With the limited spells available he casts a flame blade and kills her that way.

Trademeet
Time for a quick crypt crawl, kill the Dao djinn and then shop for a cloak of displacement plus Ras the dancing sword.

Our next stop will be the de'Arnise hold to check if anything needs doing.

Stats
Boor, halfling berserker 11. 432 kills, lich. 13 kills this session.
Perry, dwarf barbarian 11. 451 kills, Torgal. 22 kills this session so opening up a gap again.
Boor has Stonefire & Frostreaver axes. Perry had the FoA and replaced a non-proficient hammer with Belm.

Douthan the level 8 Kensai entering BG 2 portion of a Trilogy No-Reload Challenge...
Current Party Members: Yoshimo, Minsc, Jaheira

Douthan successfully made it out of Chateau Irenicus without incident. Circus be our next taget, then will recruit the final party.

Want it to be a bit smaller than usual (so Douthan can regain his Kensai abilities faster when it comes time to dual), but not so small as to make it too dangerous for him.

Envisioned Party: Minsc, Anomen, Mazzy, Jan initially, then Imoen adds to party in Spellhold.

This means will be going to Immesvale rather early, so need magical weapons/ammo before then.

Posted Image
** Axes
** Daggers
** Dual wield
at level 9 will max dual wield. After dualing, thinking sling and scimitars, as a +2 scimitar is rather easy to get -- good one in WK too. Also means kicking out Jaheira and Yoshimo soon (my final party picks I mean).

Setup:
Vanilla BG 2
Throne of Bhaal Expansion
Official ToB patch
Core rules at all times, including level ups and spell mememorizations
"Gore" on - party members can be chunked

Astarta & party, last entry:

Failed to pass the Impoved Screaming Statue test. Obviously, it's very hard without an experienced cleric of some sort (best R-C of course).

Saros - if you failed, does that mean your character died?

Well, kinda. Could've retreated safely, and raise all dead characters afterwards. Chose not to.

Update - Final

Almost hilarious tbh. Cleared CC of the slaver group went to the sewers had no problem with the mobs there, took a detour to fight the Mycinons boom instantly confused, Luna charges the Mycinon King then proceeds to die in two hits. I'm extremely confuse how that happen concidering she was hasted and pre-buffed. She had 100 HPs at lvl 8 her AC was 2. I'm just a lost for words not only did mephits poise no threats to me but mushrooms kicked my arse. Really bogus I tell ya.

Myconids are actually a lot more threatening than they look. They don't have a very good THAC0 but they hit hard.

@USSNorway -- I understand your confusion. The axes proficiency was used to survive BG 1. Kensais can't do ranged weapons, unless those ranged weapons also have a melee component. Douthan was very vulnerable for a long time, so he used throwing daggers until about level 6 when he felt strong enough to brave melee contact.

Dual-wielding BG 1 daggers would be rather pointless (or at least it is, if I could dual-wield axes instead). So I used the axes for melee, daggers for ranged.

I will dual to druid, so the axe proficiencies will be wasted. My other alternative was ** in scimitars. I WAS going to do this, but only if I killed Drizzt, which I utterly failed to do.(if I succeeded could have used Rashad's Talon in the other hand) No magical clubs so that was out in BG 1. So basically not a lot of 1-hand proficiencies I can use that the druid dual will find useful. Also, whatever I use in BG 1, I can't use in BG 2 until kensai abilities have been regained.

Therefore used axes, knowing I would lose them after the dual.

Question about dualing:

Douthan had just dualed to druid from kensai level 9 -- I thought when you dualed you lost all advantages and disadvantages, except HP. You can see it says Kensai inactive here:
Posted Image

When I dualed, I wanted a range weapon - didn't want to use daggers, as that would waste my Kensai Profs - so BG 2 let me use sling, which sure made sense to me, as sling is quite valid for a level 1 druid. You can see I did this in the next screenie:
Posted Image

HOWEVER
, when I went to try to equip a sling it was red/unusable! I get the disadvantages of the Kensai? I thought the class was inactive! Also I thought disadvantages of a class were to balance the advantages, which I don't have!
Posted Image

My question:
is this a bug, or there something about dualing I just aren't understanding? And if it's not a bug, why the heck did it let me put a proficiency in something that was illegal for my dual?

Bottom line: I will still continue but sure changes my game plan - I have only one melee weapon I can use without penalty, but can't use armor or ranged weapons (without penalty)...might waste a prof on daggers at level 4, not sure yet depends what you guys say/suggest.

@Corey: Honestly not a bug, but poor coding tbh. The way BG2 handles dual class if the class you dualing from has restrictions or disadvantages then the class your dualing into will retain those disadvantages even though the previous class is inactive. Example would have been a Kensai Mage or Thief both retain the no armor, no bracer restriction even though the kit is inactive. This is why a Kensage is such a cheesy combination since the down time is not a hassle as Mage Robes don't count as Armor.

It's not a bug... sling is a weapon and all weapon restrictions still apply so eg: a Cleric that becomes a Fighter still can't use swords. I test all my dual characters by making a new ToB character and dualing him/ her... gives me a good look at what a high level could look like.
p.s.
IMO staff would have been a better pick than axe but I can see your point.

I used to test a character, console them up a few levels then dual them which often caught out mistakes or oversights (e.g. check weapon proficiencies for beastmaster > cleric). Don't bother so much now as I tend not do dual-class or live with the consequences.

Good point about quarterstaff, some good general staffs in both games (Rynn, 1 handed staff mace) and even decent ones for druid towards the end of SOA (e.g. woodlands).

Anyway, well done on getting through BG1.

Thanks for your input about Douthan guys! I will indeed press on...live and learn as they say.

Goodguy (level 10 cleric/level 11 illusionist controlled by Corey_Russell) and Badgirl (level 10 fighter/level 11 thief controlled by Dogdancing) continue their adventure...

The duo buffed then battled the thieves in Maevar's guild -- they were QUITE a few in the entrance area -- Goodguy helped with hold persons and many skeletons summoned -- Badgirl whittled them down with her considerable melee power.

As for Maevar and his buddies, Goodguy assisted with 2x cloudkill and MMM and silence - this, combined with Badgirl's melee, won the day.

The 2nd floor, though, was nearly a disaster. Goodguy knew to let Badgirl go first and get the enemies attention. Goodguy then assisted with spider spawn. However, two massive backstabs in a row on Badgirl left her a sliver of life -- the duo retreated to downstairs and healed up (oddly, no one followed them downstairs). If anyone did follow, though they would have hit some snares waiting for them. Badgirl went upstairs and battled once more. Goodguy went up and charmed an enemy. This was enough to turn the tide of battle, and victory for the duo.

After selling everything and reporting to Renal the duo's success, the party coffers is standing at 40,000 gold! However, we are going to have a tough time spending it, since we can no longer buy anything at the adventure mart, with Ribald being hostile and all...

The duo then headed to Immesvale. They brought a message to the mayor from the ogres in the area, which netted Goodguy a small upgrade in a shield from Macduff. Surprisingly, a True Sight scroll was just lying on the ground, that was helpful...

We also got mephit for a mage, killed his stone golem that turned on him, and looted his place clean. Badgirl was pretty tired, so the session was ended here.

Douthan the level 9 Kensai/level 10 druid continues his adventure...
Traveling with Minsc, Mazzy, Anomen, Jan

Somewhat suprisingly, doing the Immesvale quests and defeating the Shade Lord was enough to regain Douthan's Kensai abilities! So he was not without his Kensai abilities for very long...Since he just had non-magical throwing daggers, he used a quarterstaff +1 even though not proficient so tha he wouldn't be in the front lines. Anomen and Minsc were in the front lines until Mazzy joined, then Minsc and Mazzy were in front.

Mazzy had * in short swords and ***** in short bow...I think Douthan regained his abilities so fast partly due to the small group (4 man team until Mazzy). I like the party so far.

Key spells for Douthan will be barkskin, armor of faith and ironskin so that he can be in the front lines and not need so much healing. He had to potion a lot with the early ambushes until he could regain his Kensai abilities...was nice too, while trying to take out the shade lord, we got an Ioun stone for Douthan.

Now that he has Kensai skills, Douthan's Thac0 has improved greatly (his Thac0 with a non-magical throwing dagger is 5, for example), so should be a much bigger contributor from now on.

1. There are very few absolute rules in bg2 and you could concededly want to spend pips in those weapon classes. Eg: a Cleric duals to Thief and puts 1 pip into longswords... at level 24 he takes UAI and then legally wields said longsword (with pips). You have the right to spend your pips in unusual ways... you already made a tactical/ RPG decision to put pips into axes which is now locked out to you but (at the time) the pips gave you some value for money.

2. As I understand it you already have 2 pips in daggers from the fighter class that you will get back later... understand that spending pips in daggers before you re-act your Fighter class will be lost, so I'd wait.

Multiplayer: Boor/Gate70 and Perry/Grond0
Session 5 : 4h, approx 9h30 total.

Checking on the de'Arnise hold finds us paying off a loan shark. Once this is done we try to help Mook, kill two thief deserters and their recruiter then head into the graveyard district in search of Lassal.

This is interrupted by having to help Sir Sarles, retreive a stolen ring, grabbing the silver pantaloons, sorting out Anarg and bringing Neb/Reijik to justice. Cromwell improves the Mace of Disruption and we return to deal with the remaining vampires. Tanova and Lassal are soon truly dead, and Bodhi scared off.

Umar Hills have a job for us. Lots actually. We soon move on to an abandoned temple and quickly clear it. Only a shadow dragon remains. Our progress so far has filled us with confidence, but our illusions are soon shattered. We have the dragon injured before Perry is caught with her rage down, level drained and chunked.

Boor will have to retire but the dragon should be dealt with first. His rage expires twice and each time he too is level drained. He tries to put his hand up but explodes into chunks.

Stats
Boor, halfling berserker 13.523 kills, lich. 89 kills this session.
Perry, dwarf barbarian 13. 563 kills, bone golem. 112 kills this session.
Back to Candlekeep

Hmm, first the Shadow Dragon claims the lives of a group of fallen paladins, now it claims Grond0 and Gate70...by any chance did you guys have dispelling arrows so you could dispel the dragon's protections? Good luck in your next run...

That was my fault unfortunately. I was thinking Perry was safe under the pillars, but forgot that I didn't have the ImoD equipped to protect against level drain (had bow equipped instead).

Hmm, too bad you weren't an undead hunter, as then shooting the dragon with your bow would have worked with you immune to his level draining and all...

A bad day for me single player as well as multi-player as Ash fails to get through Irenicus' dungeon. I don't think there was anything I could have done about it as a kensai. He was stunned by a colour spray in the mephit room and never regained consciousness, but that was a risk he had to take (at least sticking to my normal rules of not employing any other party members).

Ouch! 3 failed runs in so quick a succession...that has happened to me before too...think once I had 3 failed runs in the same day...

For a Kensai, I can think of only one idea to survive, but not sure how easy to implement. If you had ***** in Axes, and there are some throwing axes in the dungeon, what if you targeted the color spray mephit from range, and then as soon as it was dead, target its respective portal? The idea of using the throwing axes is you can try to run out of its effect, which is next to impossible if you're in melee range.

In any case, I feel for ya - treat yourself to a soda or something "as consolation".

Goodguy the cleric/illusionist, controlled by Corey_Russell and Badgirl the Fighter/Thief - FINAL Update

Apparently it really is a bad week for multi-player games, as Goodguy also comes to an end. We were doing the Umar Hills quests...outside with the huge mass of enemies we did it fine, partly as Goodguy cast free action on himself. We did the inside pretty good too.

However, Corey_Russell made a careless mistake - namely, when 3 undead came out of the room just above the lava, Goodguy did not pause to see what kind shadows they were. If he had done so, he would have seen they were shadow fiends. He could then go invisible and just let Badgirl solo these undead, as she is immune with the SoH. Instead, the shadow fiends went for Goodguy and held him.
Posted Image

They killed him quickly with his low HP.
Posted Image

Badgirl was relieved that end of the end of this run wasn't her fault, which it wasn't - Goodguy had a ton of defenses if he wasn't being careless - he had invisibility, invisibility 10', sanctuary AND invisibility potion! Risk was unnecessary as Badgirl could have easily soloed the group, if Goodguy had recognized the danger....his gnome saves weren't enough to keep him in one piece...
