Scion (human berserker, Grond0) and Cyill (half-elf cleric/ranger, Gate70) Session 6 (Final) 2h 00m (total 14h 10m)

The bulk of the session was clearing out the Windspear Hills (except Firkraag himself).  No real problems there, though needed some tough summons to help get rid of the adamantite golems.  Scion got to level 12 there.

Back in the city decided to continue with the Unseeing Eye.  The first potential hurdle there was the group of beholders across the broken bridge.  However, they were no threat given that Cyill had just bought the shield of Balduran - or at least that should have been the case.  Regrettably, when Scion saw a group of undead enter the combat he thought he would help out with a few slingshots.  I noticed the lead beholder had changed targets to Scion, but before he could retreat he transformed into a skeleton - presumably an anti-magic to get rid of the death ward and a death spell arrived almost simultaneouslyImage IPB.

Shame there - again no real problems in the run to this stage and there's no reason why that should change at least to the end of SoA.  I just need to try and cut out the mistakesImage IPB.

Garon, solo Cavalier. Arrived from BG2 with 7 tomes (2 wisdom), golden pantaloons, Koveras' ring and the Helm of Balduran.

Prologue
"There is much untapped potential in you". Too right, I had 413k xp which was a lot for a level 8 Cavalier. Irenicus soon shadow-keepered that off me.

Imoen, Minsc and Jaheira leave without me. Time to carefully pick off stray goblins, duergar and mephits. My caution works, allowing me to pick up the Sword of Chaos.

Yoshimo also vanishes before my eyes so I glug an oil of speed and shut down four mephit portals. At one point I am blinded - wishing I had rested so Draw Upon Holy Might was available.

A salt mephit stuns me, but I save against polymorph 3 times and recover to kill it (nasty & a lucky escape?)

Ulvaryl escapes before I can kill her, and after zeroing a trio of hasted assassins I escape into daylight. Imoen is waiting and almost gets me arrested. I had better go pay whatever fine is required to release her.

A trip to the circus
I regain some of my lost experience riddling on a bridge, then kill a series of shadows before reaching Kalah. He doesn't last long, allowing me to re-unite Aerie with Quayle and a woman with her son. I treat myself to the Reflection Shield before continuing.

Gaelan Bayle
I require 20,000gp to rescue Imoen. That's a lifetime of washing up but Gaelan has a list of people willing to pay good money to a troubleshooter.

The Copper Coronet
I don't like the look of Amalas (he's spattered across the fighting pit). Lehtinan isn't much better so I decide to nose around. A beastmaster and his pets are killed before I free Hendak and the other slaves. With the new management in place I can afford the Blade of Roses, Azuredge and Stonefire.

I need to find a scroll case and potion container. I expect to "stumble" across them quickly enough.

Garon, solo Cavalier.

Suna Seni
I'm ambushed so hurl Azuredge at the mage and follow up with Roses. Once she is dead the divine caster gets my attention, then Suna Seni, the remaining slavers and then Eldarin. I have to leave a scroll behind.

Watchers Keep
Odren is so nice, refusing to let me help until I insist. They open the entrance, but I'm only after a potion case and tell them to stand guard until I return.

Renfeld
My return to the city involves rescuing a poisoned harper.
Offhand Arbane foils a mad cleric, Prebek, Sanasha and a pirate wizard.
The Reflection Shield foils the goblins and a group of hidden pirates.

Temple Sewers
I try Stonefire out, killing a sea troll.
Keldorn tries to lend me his armour but I have neither the intelligence or wisdom required to put it on. Reluctantly I hand it back.
An Arbane Reflection combination helps against a Rakshasa and kobolds, but my wounds are serious. I identify the sewer cloak and Troll my way back to the surface.
Sir Ryan Trawl refuses to speak to me until I become human again.

The Skinner Murders
Lt Aegisfield is clearly drawing a salary for no purpose. Even I can work it out after speaking to Rampah, Rose and Bel. Rejiek Hidesman runs away and I blunder into various traps and mostly heal.

I buff before following further, offhanding Arbane against a pair of ghasts as Vellin Dahn leaves. A pair of rune assassins are more problematic, forcing potions to be glugged with their backstabs and hasted attacks. I use Arbane haste and manage to glug two more healing potions. One assassin is down and the other almost dead but is too quick for my glugging, so I raise my hand.

Should have healed fully before going downstairs. Oh well, back to Candlekeep.

Gate70: Mayse, female human ranger Bhaalspawn.
Grond0: Khazad, male dwarf berserker.

Jailbreak
Our escape is a bit of a blur. Khazad has borne the brunt of mephit effects, losing his vision and having the occasional sleep. We emerge into daylight to see Imoen fighting Irenicus, and for them both to be arrested.

Our backpacks are full so we sell a few items and store others before heading into the circus. Aerie and Quayle are re-united, then at the Copper Coronet our battle with the guards sees Mayse dual class into a cleric. Hendak gives us a discount, thus purchasing Stonefire, Azuredge and the Sling of Seeking.

Mayse cleric 6 (ranger 9) has 166 kills, 40 this session. (BG1 126 kills)
Khazad berserker 9 has 303 kills, 151 this session. (BG1 152 kills)

Gate70: Mayse, female human ranger Bhaalspawn.
Grond0: Khazad, male dwarf berserker.

Slavers
A hidden exit leads from the Copper Coronet into the sewers. Khazad is built for this sort of work, his only problem being extreme lag and eventually we call a halt as backpack-lag extended to 30 seconds per item move (saved, shut game down and tried again).

Progress seemed a little better until Haegan used the lag to catch Khazad out at least twice. Mayse was less affected but could see both Haegan and Khazad jumping around the room. With her minimal cleric levels she tried to help but her spells were depleted from an earlier trio of crowd-thinning holy smites. Haegan was doomed but resisted a command.

Once the battle was won the looting went a bit more smoothly, and after a rest Khazad carved some trolls up. With all the children freed Mayse sent three skeletons to play with a pair of yuan-ti. Khazad decided to join in but was spotted by a slaver mage as he dodged a prismatic spray trap, and everybody piled into this area for a big fight. Khazad was the centre of attention and asked Mayse if she had any holy smites left now the skeletons were de-boned. Why yes, but she'd been trying to cast it without success - lesson of the day is to aim at the floor and not a table.

Three smites and a hold person (only a war dog held) softened the room up enough for Khazad to clear the area, and a final juggling of dropped items into backpacks, containers, pouches, pockets and whatnot would add an impressive margin to the sales later on.

Watchers Keep
Hendak rewarded us well, but the bulging backpack experience meant we urgently needed a trip to Watchers Keep. Mayse blagged about her adventuring prowess and Odren fell for it. She immediately bought a potion container and a spare gem bag, then entered the keep under sanctuary. Fortunately her limited turn undead skills found no wraiths but mephits instead - Khazad raged through them. Mayse death-warded him and he gamely added an ammo belt to the party stores.

de'Arnise Hold
Time to warm up the Stonefire axe. Khazad fronted up against all comers, while Mayse demonstrated the weakness of a dual-class character with little contribution (doesn't help that she's non-proficient with a sling until her ranger class re-activates). It wasn't long before the stocky dwarf had cleared the gound floor and courtyard plus re-inforcements arriving after the drawbridge was slammed open (mind your fingers). The final action of the session saw Mayse cook a stew in 10 seconds - those poor umber hulks are going to get a raw deal meal.

Mayse cleric 8 (ranger 9) has 183 kills, 17 this session. (BG1 126 kills, greater basilisk still toughest)
Addictions: Cure light wounds, sling & bullets.

Khazad berserker 9 has 359 kills, 56 this session. (BG1 152 kills, Angelo still toughest)
Addictions: Enrage, battle axe.

That's how adventuring works. Every time something valuable is found something else must be dropped. By merely following us you'd be picking up a trail of increasing reward. Who-ever went before us must have made A FORTUNE.

de-Arnise hold, upstairs
Trolls, yuan-ti and golems. Khazad is racking up the kills while Mayse helps when she can. Obviously she's less help to Khazad than a blunt axe. Particularly when she suggests there is no need to rest before dealing with the turncoat Glaicas. He almost kills them both, Mayse glugging an oil of speed to escape while Khazad blocks. Glaicas uses lag-attack to fell Khazad, and Mayse requires a dozen or so bullets to finish the badly wounded guard. She is agonisingly close to being able to raise Khazad on the spot, but instead has to stash items away and return to the temple district.

Mayse isn't thinking straight, meaning she leads the raised Khazad into an ambush. He has 1HP and no equipment, but manages to rage and grab some equipment while she casts holy smite three times. Mayse has a quiet word with herself....

de-Arnise hold, downstairs
Khazad rages the food bowl into the feeding pen (stew delivered in 30 minutes or your money back). He then attacks from the front (while the stew starts to make it's presence known at the rear) and hacks the umber hulks up into dog food. So the food chain becomes a line of there and back again.

Torgal is a tough troll but Khazad has the upper hand with Stonefire ablaze. The hold is ours. Or Nalia's. Or Isaea Roenall's. You get the idea.

Harper HQ
Renfeld is safe, the same cannot be said for Xzar nor indeed for Montaron.

Guild wars
There is enough money put aside to pay Gaelan Bayle, leading to an encounter with Aran Linvail. Mayse takes the Amulet of Power and Khazad the Ring of Protection +2. Aran has vampire trouble and Mayse may actually be of use again.

Mook won't turn up until dusk, so there is time for a rest and to stop the hidden piracy behind the ships bounty. Still light, so Renal Bloodscalp and Maevar are touted for work. By then it is dark outside, and Mook is killed by a vampire called Lassal. Mayse tries to turn undead but Khazad bangs in a massive critical and Lassal vanishes in a puff of smoke.

Mayse cleric 9 (ranger 9) has 196 kills, Glaicas, 13 this session. (BG1 126 kills)
Addictions: Cure light wounds, sling & bullets.

Khazad berserker 10 has 404 kills Torgal. 45 this session. (BG1 152 kills)
Addictions: Enrage, battle axe.

Gate70: Mayse, female human ranger Bhaalspawn.
Grond0: Khazad, male dwarf berserker.

The Bridge district
Two shadow thieves are deserting so we must intercept them. A berserker horn, Del the vampire and the skinner murders are all sorted out before confronting the thieves and their guild contact.

The Graveyard district
Aran Linvail tells us to look around for Lassal and Bodhi, vampires both. Of course, we detour to loot the nearby tombs first and then dispose of Pai'Na and her spiders.

At some point Mayse remembers all about being a ranger again (ranger 9 > cleric 10) and Khazad sighs with relief.

Inside the vampire lair Mayse is held by a greater ghoul which Khazad promptly chunks. A few more vampires are vapourised and we head back to the surface.

Tricking Sir Sarles allows Cromwell to improve the Mace of Disruption, and we head back into the Graveyard district. Mayse turns undead through the southern tunnels while Khazad throws Azuredge - proving to be a highly effective combination.

On to the vampire nest. A fledgling vampire dominates Mayse (who is trying to juggle iron skins, chaotic commands and righteous magic with only two spell slots) but Khazad is unfazed and kills it while avoiding Mayse.

Tanova is next, fighting a series of skeletons, nymphs with the berserk warrior and Kitthix (think Khazad finally got bored and Azuredged her).

Descending deeper into the nest sees turn/Azuredge used against greater ghouls before we buff. An aerial servant and two nymphs stand ready to help Khazad while Mayse readies some holy smites. Khazad is so quick that the smite isn't really required, and Lassal taunts us (well he runs away).

In the spike room Khazad draws Lassal back to Mayse and his doom (think Khazad got him).

Bodhi makes a grand entrance, but we have another aerial servant to hand. It is killed as Khazad concludes the lesson.
Image IPB

Aran Linvail wants us to set sail but there are other things to do first.

Lich hunt
Khazad can't force the Crooked Crane door, and we don't want the glugged potion of strength to go to waste so we open a door in the Bridge district instead. The lich inside is less than impressed, injuring us both. Khazad kills it with Azuredge from a distance and Mayse delivers a fatal holy smite to a pit fiend (grumble grumble no xp but it looked great, should have screen-shotted).

Captain Dennis
Khazad is still on his strength high so we pick another fight. He wastes his effort on a protected mage while Mayse smites, switching to the captain when he realises. Mayse uses the Flail of Ages +3 to finish the caster then helps clear the remaining opponents. At one point Khazad is below his 15 rage hp so is forced to glug a healing potion.

Crooked Crane lich
DUHM/RM finally force the hidden door and we rest before buffing. Khazad is concerned because the lich has also buffed but Mayse swings her mace anyway. It connects despite improved mantle, fireshield, mirror images, etc to destroy undead.

Mayse ranger 9 > cleric 11 has 235 kills, lich, 39 this session. (BG1 126 kills)
Addictions: Holy smite, sling & bullet.

Khazad berserker 12 has 519 kills, elemental lich. 114 this session. (BG1 152 kills)
Addictions: Enrage, battle axe.

Gate70: Mayse, female human ranger Bhaalspawn.
Grond0: Khazad, male dwarf berserker.

Umar Hills
We help Madulf, the mayor, a cowled wizard and obtain a beljuril to upgrade the horn of Valhalla before investigating an abandoned temple.

Mayse santuary turns various undead while Khazad hacks away, example. The sheer volume of turned undead means Khazad will have to work hard to stop her closing the kills gap this session.

The area just north of a fire pit catches Mayse out as her turn ability struggles against a mummy and two skeleton warriors. She runs, into a bone golem so keeps running. Khazad is steadily cutting the enemies down and eventually catches up with the golem.

Mayse refuses to spell Amaunator backwards and turns the hostile spirit, then after buffing we prepare for the shadow dragon. Three nymphs and an aerial servant wait while Kitthix activates the dragon death spell and then we all join in. The summons are soon eliminated as is a berserk warrior and skeleton.

Khazad has taken damage but ironskins are working wonders for Mayse. The Flail of Ages +3 and axes have done their job and Thatsasillynameeh is dead. The Shade Lord, Shadow Patrick and Shadow Altar are next and put up minimal resistance.

Mayse crosses her ranger fingers, holding on to half a journal.

Trademeet
The mayor here wants us to investigate a druid grove. Mayse makes a bad start, dropping out of the shadows to drag spiders and trolls towards her. Khazad blends everything into the scenery and Mayse uses summons (nymphs, aerial servant) to clear everything else inside and out. Cernd attacks our aerial servant too, but we move it away and invite him to fight Faldorn for us.

Cernd is no doubt helped by pre-casting ironskins and flame blade plus Mayse adding chaotic commands, PfE 10' and aid. He adds a duo of nymphs which hold Faldorn, then summons a pair of mountain bears and before his next summon can arrive Faldorn is on the floor.

Back in Trademeet Khazad melees a djinn, helped by barkskin, aid and rage to provide a sub-zero spell save (flesh to stone). He steps inside their tent to complete the job but Mayse has a rakshasa head so the djinn hand over a reward and leave.

Rejeik Hidesman and Darsidian Moor are killed while Raissa has her skin re-attached by Mayse. The mayor is given an ancient heirloom to annoy both feuding families. With the shops open we sell a few items and purchase others.

Windspear Hills
Another abandoned ruin. Mayse uses holy smite and turn undead plus fire protection on Khazad. The first area is quickly cleared in this manner. For the next area Khazad uses a ring of invisibility while Mayse has the reflection shield. Eight orc archers start to injure themselves by shooting the shield. There is always time to add a pair of holy smites, a skeleton and aerial servant. Ouch.

Mayse heals Khazad and he attacks an iron golem. Might have been better to rest. Mayse and the servant help out but after the iron golem collapses three more are released. The servant is chunked and Mayse finds her ironskins quickly shred while Khazad has stood back to see how much blood is pouring out of his armour:sick: (lots, unfortunately most of it his)

The clay golem is the main issue and Mayse remains to hit it with the Flail of Ages. Khazad has returned and urges her to retreat, but she believes she has one more hit in her. The clay golem drops first and Khazad has the other two dismantled before anyone can blink.

Mayse casts wondrous recall, re-applies ironskins and chaotic commands before summoning two more nymphs to heal Khazad.

Stopped here, will probably regain some HP when restarting as a Shadowkeeper edit required thanks to two darts +5 embedded in Khazad (we've sold the cloak but sticking them in/out of the ammo belt doesn't seem wise.

Mayse ranger 9 > cleric 13 has 317 kills, Shade Lord, 82 this session. (BG1 126 kills)
Addictions: Holy smite, sling & bullet.

Khazad berserker 14 has 606 kills, Thaxll'ssillyia 87 this session. (BG1 152 kills)
Addictions: Enrage, battle axe.

Khazad teaches a troll cook how dwarf stew is too tough to stomach, then Mayse uses turn undead to herd a flock of vampires into a dead end. Khazad moves in, making it an undead end.

Khazad has a ring of fire protection topped up by a level 3 cleric spell, making him immune to several genies. He finishes with a beholder and a guardian.

Mayse has learnt a level 7 spell. Khazad asks what's so clever about casting Natures Beauty from sanctuary. Ask Samia - her entire party blinded while Kaol also dies of longing.

A greater wolfwere, golems and a water elemental are no real danger.

The next attack sees powerword: silence cast on Grond0 (voice contact lost). After a few seconds Contingency: Pause was used and in-game text invoked. A minute or two passed then Tattoo of power: player dropped.

Grond0 was then able to connect but not show as an active player. I killed the two enemies to end the combat and he could then join, so looks like multiplayer prevents joining mid battle.

Holy smite thins down another group of orogs, then Tazok gets a rematch. Dead again, he really should wise up.

Firkraag sends Conster to do his dirty work. Khazad saves against a death spell and points out that Mayse has forgotten her death wards. She moves away, buffs and turns to see another dead mage at the feet of Khazad.

Mayse ranger 9 > cleric 15 has 339 kills, Shade Lord. 22 this session. (BG1 126 kills)
Addictions: Holy smite, sling & bullet.

Just to give this thread a bit of variety here's a solo entry.  Stile is a randomly generated halfling thief who has just graduated from BG1.

Early on in the dungeon I was concerned that she was not going to be able to make it through.  Her low strength and lack of weapon specialism in a melee weapon made it difficult to take enemies down quickly.  The first hurdle was a radiant mephit that quickly put her to sleep.  Here she has just recovered, only to go down again almost immediately!  Fortunately it was third time lucky as the mephit failed to put her down again.  Stile was also incapacitated twice more in fighting a steam mephit and a salt mephit - both times they were the only creatures around and I was confident that Stile would win out easily enough (which she did).

The next significant hurdle was the group of duergar.  I tried to get Stile to take them out one at a time from range, but the mage was a potential problem.  The plan was to run and hide behind a door until his mirror images expired and then shoot him up.  However, I didn't notice that the mage had run all the way from the library, through 2 lots of tunnels, in order to circle behind Stile.  I woke up to see Stile had already suffered a flame arrow, scorcher and magic missiles.  Luckily a second set of magic missiles did not interrupt her vampiric touch and the mage was no more.

The place I thought was likely to be her doom was the mephit portal room.  However, on thinking about possible tactics I realised I was approaching it as if playing with SCS/atweaks.  In basic BGT enemies will not normally support each other if out of sight and the mephits won't gate in loads of reinforcements.  Thus, rather than trying to take out the radiant mephit portal first, it could be safely left to last - by which time Stile would probably survive even if slept.  In the event she worked her way up gradually and this time had no trouble with the radiant mephit (she now had helm of Balduran, Koveras' ring and was 9th level so saving throws were much improved from the start).

Here is her character record on exit - HPs includes the 5 bonus from the helm.

Further adventures of Stile, halfing fighter L10.

She invested most of the funds from the dungeon into reputation building - up from 6 carried forward from BG1 to 13.  Then did the circus and purchased the glasses of identification at Gaelan Bayle's.

With no protection from disabling spells Stile needed the ring of air control before risking any ambushes so the next stop was to clear the Copper Coronet.  After chasing being chased round an arena for a while she investigated some back rooms and was attacked by guards.  Normally I would deal with them there, but with no protection against hold or charm I tried an instant kill with vampiric touch, only to be foiled by mirror images, so she ran away to try and deal with the guards singly.  That turned most of the inn hostile, though fortunately not the most important people.  After killing the chasing guards (and evading the chasing Tiana and Salvanas) Stile returned to the back room and successfully disrupted the spellcasters' attempts with her bow.

After dealing with various animals Stile comfortably won a missile duel with the beastmaster and inherited a bow upgrade. Releasing Hendak and helping him kill Lehtinan got her another level.  The proceeds also allowed her to donate for a couple more points of reputation (talking to the circus guard added one more to get up to 16) and still have enough to buy the ring of air control.

That made venturing down into the sewers relatively safe.  I was a bit surprised that the myconids were still able to target Stile with confusion - obviously still treated as an area spell even though it's targeted as individuals.  However, her saving throws were reduced to 1 with improved invisibility operating, so it wasn't a problem (she wasn't strong enough to equip Lilarcor).  The slavers were relatively straightforward - used a charge from the ring for the cleric, Haegan and each mage.  The trolls were shot up through the wall and finished off with fire arrows looted from some of the many kobold commandos that disliked me trying to rest in the sewers.

After eventually clearing everything and returning to the Promenade Stile found she had just enough cash to afford the belt of hill giant strength.  As managing such a low carrying capacity has been rather a pain so far she has now invested in this.

I'm quite pleased to have got her this far.  From now on I think it should probably only be a mistake that will kill her - so no problems there thenImage IPB.

Mayse human female ranger>cleric (Gate70) and Khazad male dwarf berserker (Grond0).

Mayse is bored waiting for rangerdom so returns to Umar Hills where the mayor and a dryad immediately request her help - you only had to ask! Back to the abandoned temple area where an illithium necklace is found for a descendant of the original owner.

While at Umar Hills a ranger called Valygar inspects our weapons too closely. Khazad tries in vain to help him by returning his body to a planar sphere but when that fails we leave him to rest in peace. Meanwhile Mayse has taken his armour as it is more beneficial than the Aegers Hide armour she'd had.

Cult of the Unseeing Eye - sewer entrance
Mayse spots a spell coming and steps back before trying to cast chaotic commands. A timely reminder not to be caught unprepared (and also to have a sturdy dwarf between yourself and danger).

Dear cult of the Unseeing Eye, please pay a finders fee for our recruiting effort.

With Tarnor the Hatchetman, rakshasa and a sea troll dead Mayse clears some undead beyond Keldorn (we check his armour but no luck). Vampiric mists attack Mayse despite sanctuary. but her turn undead is still active and they explode as one. A shade lich refuses to be turned so the mace of disruption is used to ignore defences and destroy it.

Cult of the Unseeing Eye - exterior
Gauth & a beholder hurt Khazad so bless, aid, death ward on skeleton warriors is used instead.

Mayse is sanctuary turning various undead until a lich removes magic and casts a death spell. The sanctuary somehow voids the death spell and Mayse runs for safety. She reaches a safe distance just as the lich stuns her, but once again the dwarf is between her and the enemy. He and an efreeti work wonders to clear at least a dozen undead.

Cult of the Unseeing Eye - interior
Four skeleton warriors and an aerial servant are on a dungeon crawl, sighted by Khazad as Mayse remains rooted in the shadows. The Unseeing Eye didn't see that coming (neither did Khazad who took all the risks only for Mayse to chuck a lone bullet into the fray). Gaal is easily meleed, with hold person and insect plague added (just because we can).

Illithid lair
Alhoon and his fellow plotters are focusing on a skeleton warrior gang, giving Khazad all the opportunity he needs to kill them without any trouble.

Mae'Var
Ambush us would you? Not even Rayic Gethras can stand in our way, and another natures beauty helps Khazad clear the area.

Firkraag
Khazad really goes to town. Mayse tried to help but instead wheels out a long list of excuses.
a) She's done a lot today and was worn out.
B) She tried to call the summons and ended up moving out of place.
c) She wasted time preparing insect plague then switched to doom.
d) What do you mean he's dead just as I cast it?
News just in - footage of the fight has been reported. Just need to work out how to edit & share it. Maybe more later.
Here it is - hope it works (OK on Vista/Chrome but not at moment on Ubuntu/Firefox...)

Up Yours Umar Hills
Still very quiet so we visit the mayor. He berates Mayse for spending so long away (fighting dragons and all that) then tells us to leave - ungrateful politician. Mayse is sulking until Khazad suggests she tries the cleric vacancy instead.

Planar sphere
Solamnic knights guard our loot table. Tolgerias wilts Khazad, our first real injury for some time. Khazad moves away to leave skeleton warriors and fire elementals playing with the hapless mage, then returns to finish the job. We warm ourselves in a fire room, then cool down in an ice room before battling golems in the engine room. Lavok falls for natures beauty and low-reaching axes. Mayse is exhausted and calls for a break.

Mayse ranger 9 > cleric 19 has 412 kills, Unseeing Eye. 73 this session. (BG1 126 kills)
Addictions: Holy smite, sling & bullet.

Khazad berserker 18 has 796 kills, Firkraag. 170 this session. (BG1 152 kills)
Addictions: Enrage, battle axe.

A long session - 170 kills by Khazad in one sitting

Further adventures of Stile, halfling fighter L11.

With the ring of air control now available the next order of business was to trigger the initial ambushes.  I wanted to do this in the city in order to be able to use improved invisibility during the zero travel time.  No one hassled her on the way to the docks so she circled round through the thieves guild behind the mad cleric and used the entrance to dodge her spells while shooting her up.

While in the docks she started investigating Mae'Var, so her next destination was the temple area to get the amulet.  This time she was ambushed.  Her vampiric touch was too slow and was disrupted by an arrow and her invisibility was also dispelled meaning she had to prepare to run.  However, her trusty bow pumped out arrows quick enough to kill the mage before he could get a spell off and the rest of the bad guys soon followed - leaving her the prize of Arbane.

After selling unwanted items she travelled again, this time arriving at the temple.  She picked up the necklace of Talos there and started the Sir Sarles quest before heading back to the docks to report to Mae'Var.  She also invaded Rayic's house.  The mephits were led outside and killed in batches.  Arbane proved just good enough to kill the golems (despite no proficiency in short swords), though Stile was about to retreat when the second one went down.  Stile dodged down the stairs to avoid Rayic's detect invisible and, once protection from magic weapons expired, shot him up.

Obtaining some documents got Stile to level 11 and she had shortly afterwards looted the thieves guild as far as possible and uncovered evidence of Mae'Var's betrayal of the thieves guild - but she hasn't exposed him yet.  She has just bought the nymph cloak from Gorch in order to have charisma 20 available for further shopping.

Mayse human female ranger>cleric (Gate70) and Khazad male dwarf berserker (Grond0).

Planar Sphere - another plane
Two skeleton warriors, an aerial servant and a fire elemental help kill three demons. With the first demon Mayse once more plays the damsel in distress after being held. The demon weaves through the summons and Khazad to attack her, but Khazad can apply damage faster than the demon so Mayse lives to breathe once more.

This was a close call and no such mistake is made with the other two - iron skins, chaotic commands and death ward being applied. Lavok is allowed a final sunrise before dying of his wounds, age and fresh air.

Planar Prison
After picking up the portal gem we head to the Five Flagons and from there enter a planar prison. Khazad grabs the attention of too many enemies and takes damage as his rage wears off. He's a tough fellow though and what looks like trouble usually means he's down to his last 80hp! A natures beauty, berserk warrior and efreeti are all that are needed for him to get back into his stride.

A quartet of summons (skeleton, servant, fire elemental, nymph) help us through the top half of the prison and defeat the warden. We could continue but Haer'dalis and his gang deserve a night in the slammer. We'll release them next time.

Mayse ranger 9 > cleric 20 has 424 kills, Unseeing Eye. 12 this session. (BG1 126 kills)
Addictions: Holy smite, sling & bullet.

Khazad berserker 19 has 835 kills, Firkraag. 39 this session. (BG1 152 kills)
Addictions: Enrage, battle axe.

Trendan the level 9 Undead Hunter continues his adventure...
Traveling with Korgan, Minsc, Anomen, Yoshimo, Edwin

Somewhat unusual for me, I am using a full 6 man party with no females - though that will change once we swap out Yoshimo for Imoen.

I am really enjoying this melee heavy group. As Trendan has level drain immunity and hold immunity, he's been in the front lines. He only has -4 AC, but he rarely takes damage. But he, Minsc and Korgan are all hitting hard, so that may be part of it. Trendan is using Sword of Chaos and Minsc is using Lilacor, so it' not unusual the two of them get strong hits. And of course, Korgan is getting big hits with his 1-hand axe thanks to his ***** in axes.

Some achievements to date:

1) Circus problem solved. We bought a two-hand sword +1 so Minsc wouldn't be flailing uselessly against the shadows, though he soon upgraded to the Lilacor.

2) Suna Sune ambush not a problem for the party, just had to gulp a few heal potions. Same thing rescuing the sick harper.

3) Since Korgan's DEX stinks, upgrading his armor was a high priority. Some steps taken: 1) get a protection ring for him 2) Bought a medium shield +1 from Ribald's (all we could afford at the time). However, we quickly went to Umar Hills to negotiate an agreement and the Mayor, which got Korgan a 3 AC shield with some minor magic resistance. We wanted to get the Bejuril while we were here, but in mid-conversation with the Bejuril civilian, those dang kids interrupted us. We told them to get lost, but we lost our conversation with the Bejuril civilian and couldn't get the quest (the guy would just tell us he had enough of us).

4) We did Korgan's quest early. We reached the graveyard district, opened a tomb with a +2 axe (how handy for Korgan) and entered the spiders area. We made it to Korgan's crypt OK. I happened to remember the exact path for his quest and ignored the large groups of undead in the other corridor - much safer, though we probably could have done it anyways, the way Trendan, Korgan and Minsc were churning through the undead.

5) We completed Maevar's tasks without much difficulty. Rayic Gethras was soloed by a much buffed Korgan - critical buffs being berserk and death ward and fire resistance. Maevar himself was dealt with out of sight via summons. The party took a big beating on the ground floor...Yoshimo in particular almost bit it, but an invisibility potion got him out of the danger zone. We decided to pass on the thieves upstairs. Taking number of backstabs for little gain just doesn't sound very promising.

6) Prebek's house - concentrated fire on the mages, plus a fireball to get rid of the goblin riff-raff worked well. Yoshimo and Trendan got confused. The party left the room, but Yoshimo and Trendan had no interest in attacking each other - works for me.

7) Throughout the whole game, I have been saving every single spell. Why? Because we had Edwin get to 25 INT and memorize them all. The INT boost was still active at Prebek's house (lot of spells there) so that was handy. Edwin is really worth two mages...

8) Edwin is so potent, in fact, that we decided we were ready to get some full plate for Korgan - we are sure Mencar could be persuaded to part with his. Edwin pretty much soloed the entire fight web, stinking cloud, cloudkill, greater malison, cloudkill and fireball got everyone but Risling, who amazing survived, ran past the party setting off some snares and eating magic missiles from Edwin but still escaped. Korgan's armor class now -5. Note that Trendan got his full plate long time ago from Droth (that slaver in the Sea's Bounty).

9) We finally dealt with the slavers at the Copper Coronet and the moored ship. Ridiculously easy for this party. The poor beastmaster got slain quickly by two ariel servants -- the beastmaster never saw us, as Yoshimo was directing servant's attack from the shadows, which means the doors of the creatures were never opened. One at time, piece of cake.

I know what Edwin and Minsc might come to blows, but I'm not worried about it - as long as they settle their differences before chapter two finishes, that's fine with me. If Edwin gets chunked replace with Nalia, and if Minsc gets chunked, will replace with Mazzy probably.

D'Arnise Keep our next major project, though thinking of paying Pa'nai a visit to get a ioun stone for Edwin.

Further adventures of Stile, halfling fighter level 13.

Off on her travels to the bridge Stile came across Renfeld under assault.  A few fire arrows sorted out the mage and the rest of the crew didn't last long.  Back at the docks she was tasked with finding Montaron; a first stab was clearing Prebek's house.  As usual he got mirror image up before her vampiric touch struck, but this time it picked out the right image!  Sanasha appeared to have no answer to the improved invisibility and a spot of Arbane haste soon drilled through her stoneskins.

After a sad end to the search for Montaron (at least sad for Xzar), Stile decided she was ready to venture further afield and set out for Watcher's Keep.  Arriving safely there she bought a potion bag and found inside a quiver of +1 arrows and an ammo belt to make inventory management a bit easier.

She then headed to De'Arnise Hold with a view to acquiring the flail of ages to use in melee.  On the way she met another ambush - this time the ring of air control was not available and she was forced to run, but no great loss with the first ambushes already dealt with.

The trolls were nearly all tackled one at a time, which was easy enough - fire arrows were used to finish them off until the flail was available.  The mage was shut down by elemental arrows firing at 4 APR (5 initially using Arbane haste) and never got a spell off.

Before facing Glaicas Stile went back to the city to sell spare items.  While there she purchased Vhailor's Helm and the simmy got a first outing against Glaicas - he missed twice early on and suffered 2 lots of vampiric touch as a result meaning he soon tried to run (unsuccessfully).  He left Stile a nice armour upgrade as well as an extra flail head.

Force attacking the golems one by one finished all but the iron one at which point the containers were rifled and the flail fully upgraded (level 12).  Using this Stile and his simmy attacked the last golem (using ring of air control and Arbane haste as buffs).  The real Stile was left alone with it badly injured and had to use a couple of healing potions before it fell.

Ring was used again to place the feeding bowl for the umber hulks and then a couple more uses (resting in between) to finish them off (improved invisibility bringing saving throw down to 0 to protect against confusion).  The simmy helped out with Torgal , who didn't last long, before reporting back to Nalia and accepting the stronghold.

Next on the list was Trademeet.  I was surprised there to get a conversation with Lord Khellon Menold which appeared to be heading towards slaughtering all the druids.  I don't remember that before - probably it's only available to evil characters (which I very rarely play).  Stile's first act was disposing of the genies - the simmy taking the risk of petrification.  Then it was off to the grove to work his way through the inhabitants there (getting level 13 in the troll mound).  The simmy and efreeti helped out where necessary making everything straightforward (here they are making short work of the rakshasas - after buying all the potions of power).  The only slight concern was where I didn't notice a druid casting call lightning, but only the efreeti was targeted.

As I'm not allowing NPCs to join Cernd attacked from outside the party (which means no XP obtained).  In this form he's really frightening - I missed a screenshot of Faldorn's death, but the entire battle took about 3 seconds!

Getting rewarded for dealing with the druids and then clearing the tomb got Stile to reputation 20 and she celebrated by spending all her money on Ras, cloak of displacement, necklace of missiles and belt of inertial barrier (realising too late she didn't have the ring of human influence on!)

Final update for Stile.

She came to a sticky end trying to solve the skinner murders. The plan was to go down to the basement area invisible and buff there. I did not expect that DUHM would interrupt invisibility, but it did and Stile was backstabbed as a result by the nearby assassin. When she ran up the stairs the assassin came with her, although that didn't initially appear to be a problem.

Stile ran across the room and then brought the efreeti out to play, but was surprised to receive another backstab at this point. The other rune assassin, who had been across the basement, had obviously cheated to come up invisibly at the same time as the first one. Stile was now at critical HP levels and with a clouded aura. She tried to run up the stairs next to her, but the first assassin stabbed her in the back before she could get away.

That really should have been a routine encounter at the stage Stile was at - oh well, back to the drawing board.

So our single player runs both die to rune assassins Grond0.

Mayse human female ranger>cleric (Gate70) and Khazad male dwarf berserker (Grond0).

Planar prison
Haer'dalis and co are finally released.

Cleric stronghold
No sign of Travin. These strongholders don't like Mayse.

Rogue Paladins
Reynard de'Chatillon (approximation) leaves in disgust, leaving Anarg and the other paladins to die at our hands.

Kangaxx
Segment 1. Kangaxx manages a timestop and attempts a de-buff.
Segment 2. Mayse steps back before Khazad offhands the lich into oblivion.
Segment 3. Khazad lays into the demi-lich and forgets to enrage. Mayse uses spacebartime to suggest it; he obliges then immediately makes it a moot point.

Twisted Rune
Khazad has killed Vaxall the beholder and the vampire as well as injuring Revanek. Mayse suggests he deal with Layene instead since Revanek is a great spell target. Off goes Khazad, taking injury as he goes and having to run when a pit fiend arrives. Meanwhile Mayse has cast true sight to aim the mace of disruption into Shangalar.

Two sets of insect summons hit Revanek while Khazad has glugged and re-buffed to the chagrin of Layene.  Not a lot left to tidy up.

Trying to save the game at this point indicated all the other save games had vanished - not a good sign. We exit to the Bridge district and save, a reload works but after restarting the game this save has gone and the others are back. Eventually found it...not in MPSAVE but in TEMP/MPSAVE with a lot of other files. Could be storing trouble up for us later.

Mayse ranger 9 > cleric 20 has 430 kills, Shangalar. 6 this session. (BG1 126 kills)
Addictions: Holy smite, sling & bullet.

Khazad berserker 19 has 851 kills, Firkraag. 16 this session. (BG1 152 kills)
Addictions: Enrage, battle axe.

Lots of solo runs have ended at that encounter, Grond0, so you are in good company. Any particular reason you couldn't have buffed at the entrance to the basement, rather than the basement itself? Consolations, in any case.

The only normal buff she had was DUHM. This could have been used upstairs, but I was wanting to give it as long a duration as possible. The main reason for going down invisibly was to allow her to bring out a simmy without interruption (which would then form the initial target for the bad guys).
