Trendan the level 10 Undead Hunter - Micro-update

So the party headed to the crypts to get that Ioun stone for Edwin, but then Edwin pipes up and says he needs the Nether Scroll. So now we have two tasks while we were here. A single fireball was all the softening up we needed against Pa'nai, melee/ranged fire finished the survivors. Edwin of course got the Ioun Stone and also the spell immunity spell. We did not try to memorize it until we had Edwin gulp a potion of genious - there are so few scrolls of this in vanilla BG 2.

For some reason, we had little trouble against the undead and lich guarding the Nether Scroll - guess having an undead hunter and berserker in the front lines helps more than I thought. Edwin of course did not share the scroll...

After exiting the crypts, we defeated all the various undead in the tombs in the area. No problems at all doing that. We saved a man who was buried alive, shook down some information from a grounds-keeper about who was doing this to the man buried alive, and found a guardian (a paladin) for an orphan girl. We also had to defeat an undead who attacked Nevin.

We ran into a number of ambushes during these travels - in every case, the 4 front-liners attacked, Edwin and Yoshimo got some distance then Edwin would fire a set of magic missiles at the mage. This solved the ambush problem every time. In fact the only person who ever took serious damage during these ambushes was Yoshimo.

Next up was to deal with the problem at D'Arnise Keep. Korgan, Trendan and Minsc all are doing huge damage in melee. Minsc for some reason has 28% of the kills, Trendan 25% and Korgan 22%. The trolls were usually killed with Korgan's Stonefire. The Yuan-ti mage was soloed by Korgan, protected by protection from fire, resist fear and of course berserking. The golems were killed one at at a time by force attacking them. I initially had Minsc try to take down the Iron Golem with his Lilcacor, but he got caught in the poison. So instead Minsc backed off, and then Edwin showed how it was done by putting strength spell on himself and changing to flind form. In this form, Edwin could damage the iron golem without being caught in the poison cloud.

The Flail of Ages gets formed and given to Anomen. The heartseeker went to Minsc. The Frostreaver to Trendan. In fact, now Trendan finally puts away the Sword of Chaos and dons the Frostreaver and a +1 medium shield, putting his AC at -7. The giantkin hammer went to Korgan. Korgan might dual-wield that, once he gets to level 15 (which means ** in dual wield at that point).

For the Umber Hulks, Minsc showed himself only at first (since he was immune to the confusion), then backed off and the party easily slaughtered the one umber hulk. Edwin then fired a cloudkill, which killed 3 umber hulks. Then when that wore off, we slaughtered the surviving umber hulk. We also put some chow in a cell, since we didn't need it ourself.

Time for the main event. Yoshimo laid a few traps (which never got used) then the party moved and fired a cloudkill. Torgal resisted the death effect of cloudkill thanks to his magic resistance. So we ended up battling 3 trolls at once. This wasn't too bad, partly due to a slow cast by Edwin. Everyone's doing great damage, most of the trolls are falling in about 3 rounds each.

So all that's left is kill a few trolls in the main hall then report our sucess to Nalia.

Trying to save the game at this point indicated all the other save games had vanished - not a good sign. We exit to the Bridge district and save, a reload works but after restarting the game this save has gone and the others are back. Eventually found it...not in MPSAVE but in TEMP/MPSAVE with a lot of other files. Could be storing trouble up for us later.

& the bad new is that although the game loaded and looked OK I decided to check a bit further. Moving to the slums saw Gaelan Bayle appear, the Spellhold arrest cutscene and Cohrvale was back for seconds so that save game is completely frapped. Having just over-written the save game with the area transition this means the most recent save is....in the planar prison.

Looks like Khazad will get to play with Kangaxx and the Twisted Rune while Mayse looks on again - what a pair of fights to repeat in a no-reload.

Trendan the level 10 Undead Hunter continues his adventure...
Traveling with Korgan, Minsc, Anomen, Yoshimo, Edwina
Area Battled: Umar Hills Temple Area

The Umar Hills was solved very easily by Trendan's group. Partly due to the awesome output of the 3 front-liners, but also due to we saw nothing stronger than skeletal warriors and also Anomen was able to chunk the shadows outright with his turn undead.

Trendan wanted to solo the shadow dragon, but his party wouldn't be safe. So we scoured Amn for an invisibility 10' but we could not find one. So instead compromised and Edwina memorized 6 level 2 invisibility spells. Trendan also bought the Azuredge while he was out and about.

Trendan's group returned to the shadow dragon's lair. We cast a skeleton (so that Thaxssyllyia would use their death spell), then two ariel servants. Yoshimo laid as many traps as he could right by the party, as a fall back position. Edwina put everyone invisible except Trendan, then Trendan borrowed Minsc's heartseeker, had 240 arrows and got to work.

Well even at 4 APR and haste, it took forever to whittle down the shadow dragon's stoneskins. Trendan was shooting at the dragon from the cubby hole. The dragon a number of times did a spell that limits vision...I had to be quick on the pause finger to keep my guy from charging into melee range when that happened. Fortunately, Thaxxsyllyia eventually ran out of those spells and just had a useless level draining attack at range.

However, even with 240 arrows, 2 haste potions, and fire giant STR, Trendan could only get the dragon to badly injured. He tried Azuredge during this time, and after 30 minute REAL TIME (up to this point, from the start of the fight) Trendan's controller (corey_russell) had enough - almost seems like Azuredge is bugged against this dragon.

So then Korgan enraged, Minsc armor of faith, Edwina group haste, Anomen using sunstones with his sling of seeking, and Yoshimo with +2 arrows charged the dragon. As Trendan expected, Korgan, Minsc and Anomen all got good hits and killed the dragon in a few seconds.

Edwina did try to cast a breach as his first offensive spell against it, but the party killed the dragon before he could get it off.

But at least the fallen paladins have been avenged. Trademeet will be next.

It is. Dragons are immune to "normal missiles" but this immunity is annoying and doesn't display the "weapon ineffective" string - if you don't use the G3 fixpack then thrown magical axes are considered "normal missiles", they share the regular throwing axe projectile.

Trendan the level 11 Undead Hunter continues his adventure...preparing for the journey to Spellhold
Traveling with Korgan, Minsc, Anomen, Yoshimo, Edwin
Party Deaths: 0

The more Trendan thought it, the more he wanted to his hear his 1/2 sister's voice (Imoen). So rather than do all the chapter two quests, he instead paid off Galen Bayle. Since he is in the front-line, the +2 ring went to Trendan. The only person who could even use the AoP was Anomen, so Anomen got that. The reason to head to spellhold early is that everyone but Edwin has a +3 melee weapon, and Edwin will get one in spell hold (+3 cleric staff).

Trendan got framed when he went to Windspear Hills. But after this getting his name cleared and also before heading off to Spellhold,Trendan also battled the initial area in Firkraag's lair to get the fire resistance ring. Minsc ALMOST had our first death, as he got held by a goblin shaman. However, the party managed to kill all the hoggoblins in time, leaving Minsc with just a sliver of life left. The next group of hobgoblins Edwin took out with a cloudkill. For the Rakshashka, his kobold minions, and the ogrillions and vampiric mists, most of those were taken out by Yoshimo and two Ariel Servants.

We had a lot of junk for our "base" in the chest at Waukeen's Promenade, so dropped off that stuff. We also created the shadow dragon armor for Minsc. We run into quite a few mugger ambushes. As usual, the party handles those well, with only Yoshimo taking any major damage. We ran into a few vampire ambushes, including the worst one (4 vampires). However, with 3 people who can get level drain immunity, they weren't too much trouble - the vampires also fell quickly.

We were at the docks at night and defeated Lassal, though not before he murdered Mook. We also dealt with two shadow thief traitors and their contact. We ended our session after reporting our success to Linvail.

The plan is to destroy the vampire coven, then battle Tarnor's gang (to get a magical throwing axe for Korgan, and also a full plate for Anomen. The extra charm helmet could be helpful as well) -- after that, we need to stop by Mekrath's lair to get the resurrection wand, sure will need for the Underdark. Then return to Linvail and set sail to get Imoen. Anomen's next level gives him access to skeletal warriors, so we should be ready for whatever is sent our way. Oh and we also recently acquired the shield of balduran.

A couple of nights of being unable to connect for multiplayer, resulting in using Hamachi tonight. Seemed to work well, I have removed my port forwarding and suspect Grond0 could move out of his DMZ and behind a firewall. Am assuming it was easy for him to set up as he connected quickly - usual Linux story of having to take 4-5 bits of down-version documentation and seeing which bits of each worked for me (as well as a beta Hamachi I needed a separate GUI , granting of access to it and defining it as a service that starts at logon).

Mayse human female ranger>cleric (Gate70) and Khazad male dwarf berserker (Grond0).
Recap (repeat of what happened before we lost the previous save game)

Planar prison
Haer'dalis and co are finally released again. Didn't bother looking for Travin and forgot to do the rogue paladin quest.

Kangaxx
This time two summons refuse to stay away and are subjected to a death spell. Kangaxx takes a massive amount of hits(Grond0 thought the game was bugged at this point) before finally turning into a demi-lich.

Mayse had moved away but so had Khazad, meaning Kangaxx cast imprisonment at her. All her buffs were active and one of them (Archons or death ward?) meant she was able to summon three or four more things to be imprisoned while Khazad raged and attacked. Azuredge was being saved against so he grabbed the mace of disruption fom Mayse and despatched Kangaxx for good.

Twisted Rune
Once more Mayse accounts for Shangalar while Khazad has dealt with the beholder and vampire. Layenne and her pit fiend are the last to fall.

Guarded Compound
We complete both these battles with the Twisted Rune buffs active.

Brynnlaw
We skip the inn, instead focusing on the wardstone. Mayse turns undead and we stand outside Spellhold. We could bore you with the details of being captured by Irenicus again, finding a bag of holding and starting to investigate a maze but won't (as we again lost the save games - possibly because an arial servant and fire elemental were fighting each other in confusion around the corner). So we'll have to re-do the Spellhold entrance again too and pay more attention to when we save games.

Mayse ranger 9 > cleric 21 has 441 kills, Shangalar. 17 this session. (BG1 126 kills)
Addictions: Holy smite, sling & bullet.

Khazad berserker 20 has 861 kills, Firkraag. 26 this session. (BG1 152 kills)
Addictions: Enrage, battle axe.

Mayse human female ranger>cleric (Gate70) and Khazad male dwarf berserker (Grond0).

Spellhold
Nothing much to report. Khazad told Mayse about a pair of dwarven ancestors rumoured to have ended their days here - a lich, mummies and skeletons chunking Kaxir the kensai. A sad tale, bringing a lump to the throat of Mayse, and various other chunks around her.
Image IPB

Irenicus escapes, as do we. Electing to leave with Saemon Havarian results in us stealing a horn from a pirate lord. Only the horn is taken, with faint memories of another dwarven death here (Boor? Nawgrim). Choosing to travel with Saemon proves to be a mistake, resulting in us visiting a sahuagin city of caverns. After killing an ettin we decide to rest for the night.

Mayse ranger 9 > cleric 23 has 466 kills, Shangalar. 25 this session. (BG1 126 kills)
HLA's: Summon deva, maybe some others. Will check next time.
Addictions: Holy smite, sling & bullet.

Khazad berserker 22 has 960 kills, Firkraag. 99 this session. (BG1 152 kills)
HLA's: Hardiness, Whirlwind.
Addictions: Enrage, battle axe.

After 2 runs failing in Spellhold/Brynnlaw I think we're now further than we've managed in a multiplayer no reload although I could be mistaken. Last few sessions have felt good, might turn a bit now as we've not been here for a while

City of caverns
Again not much of a challenge here, Khazad went through the area like a dose of salts and Mayse only had one real contibution, below.

Into the Underdark then, and starting with the illithid gladiator enclave. The area was almost complete when Mayse wandered in behind Khazad and summons but got stunned (had cast chaotic commands on Khazad, thought Mayse had it too but not according to the evidence. Both remaining flayers quickly sucked her brains out despite Khazad and summons trying to stop them.

Bubble, gnome fighter / illusionist (Grond0) & Fomin, dwarf fighter / cleric (Gate70)

Back for our 7th attempt at a multi-player play through after seeing off Sarevok.

The first session just saw the duo through to the end of the dungeon.  Everything was cleared, though the vampire managed to run away before dying.  No serious problems although Fomin went pretty low on hits when attacking the demon with his sling in melee (normally one of my trademarks!).

Here are their current character records.

Bubble, gnome fighter / illusionist (Grond0) & Fomin, dwarf fighter / cleric (Gate70)

Emerging from the gloom of Irenicus' dungeon the duo had a brief 40 min session.  It felt as though approximately half of that was spent watching cut-scenes - I've nothing against them at all, but please BGEE give us the option to click out of them if desired.

After selling a few things the first port of call was the circus.  All of the magic weapons collected in the dungeon were among things sold so Fomin was making use of a summoned Shillelagh and Bubble MMM to deal with the shadows.

On to the slums and a mission to remove the corrupt owners of the Copper Coronet.  A few skeletons helped against the beastmaster and Hendak was soon standing over Lehtinan's body.

Bubble fighter 8 / illusionist 9, 265 kills (15 this session)
Fomin fighter 8 / cleric 8, 271 kills (10 this session)

Bubble, gnome fighter / illusionist (Grond0) & Fomin, dwarf fighter / cleric (Gate70)

In contrast to yesterday the duo enjoyed a lengthy session and made some solid progress.

Starting off beneath the Copper Coronet there were a couple of problems early on due to the lack of magical weapons.  A skeleton had to be called for to help finish off a mustard jelly when Shillelagh and MMM ran out.  However, Lilarcor was soon available to fill this gap.  Bubble's only level 5 spell initially was cloudkill and he has used this a fair amount - including a couple of times to help deal with the slavers.

The cloudkill still doesn't have quite the same kick as Fomin's holy smite - here is the result of a couple of smites against the Suna Seni ambush.  That took place on the way to Watcher's Keep where Fomin looted a quiver of plenty +1, an ammo belt and a golem manual in addition to paying for a potion bag.

While on the road the duo swung by De'Arnise Hold.  There was one anxious moment against the Yuan-ti mage when some summoned dogs were confused and attacked the summoned flesh golem - who immediately went after Fomin.  Running away Fomin had the presence of mind to slam a door in the golem's face; that was a good job as another confusion came through the closing door and took effect on him.  The golems were stunned to see one of their own kind turning on them.  Glaicas was blinded and shot down mercilessly.  Fomin used sanctuary to pen the umber hulks up near their feeding cell - allowing Bubble to cloudkill them.  A few skeletons, some buffs and MMM accounted for Torgal.

Arriving back in the city the profits from the journey were invested in Vecna and the reflection shield.  Then there was a quick trip to the Bridge District to pick up the berserker horn and solve the skinner murders.  The latter was done with a view to only needing one visit to the next destination - Trademeet.  However, first they had to return Renfeld who was rescued on the way and ensure that Xzar came to a bad end.

Finally at Trademeet the duo quickly departed for the Druid Grove and worked their way through the enemies.  The trolls in the mound gave a good account of themselves and required a rest to revive spells.  Then the duo took on a couple of groups of druids.  Kyland Lind did not much like the air around him - though neither did Fomin's summoned skeletons (not for the first time).  The rakshasas were easy meat, but the group of druids near the grove proved more troublesome.  The shadow druid shrugged off damage gamely and his call lightning smashed down on Fomin's head.  It didn't quite kill him, but a hit from the adherent finished him off before he could get a potion out of his bag.

After a return trip to the temple in Trademeet the duo picked up Cernd and went back to the Grove.  Unfortunately I let him get too close and Faldorn challenged him to a duel before he got any buffs.  He put up a game fight, almost killing her in her initial form and getting the panther shape to badly wounded - but it wasn't enough.  However, Fomin raised him and told him to get back in there.  This time he was buffed and tore Faldorn apart in only a few rounds.

On returning to Trademeet the genies met a sticky end and the duo got their just rewards.  These were added to a bit for clearing the tomb and ending the menace of the skin dancers.  That allowed them to get good prices from the merchants and they picked up the dwarven throwing hammer (which I noticed Fomin later hitting for 52 damage with) along with Ras and the Inertial Barrier belt.

Back in the city and with inventory sorted the next target was Mae'Var's guild.  However, while waiting for darkness to get the priestess' necklace they also did Sir Sarles' quest.  With the necklace in hand Rayic's house was invaded.  He himself was able to hide from Bubble's spells, but not from Fomin's flail.  The remaining tasks from Mae'var were quickly handled and he and his guild shut down permanently.

To get funds to pay Gaelan Bayle the party in the inn were subjected to attack by various summons.  Some tasks followed for Aran culminating in invading the vampires' stronghold.  This was done in two stages.  First Fomin tanked with the amulet of power while Bubble used Azuredge to clear vampires out of the route to the mace.  With the IMoD in hand Fomin gave the AoP back to Bubble and they returned.  A succession of summons soaked up most of Tanova's spells before she was chopped down by simultaneous hits from IMoD and Azuredge.  The other members of the guild fell swiftly leaving Bodhi all alone.  Although both short on spells Fomin and Bubble pressed the attack and were rewarded with the sight of Bodhi fleeing for her life.

Bubble fighter 10 / illusionist 11, 467 kills (202 this session)
Fomin fighter 10 / cleric 10, 381 kills (110 this session)
I was surprised there was so much disparity in the kills ratio that session - it didn't feel there was much difference.  The cloudkills will account for part of it and Bubble's use of dual wielding compared to Fomin's weapon + shield will have helped her snatch a few extra in melee.

Bubble, gnome fighter / illusionist (Grond0) & Fomin, dwarf fighter / cleric (Gate70)

After dealing with Bodhi the duo stayed in the Graveyard for a while clearing the tombs (including the Southern Tombs downstairs).  That gave Fomin a chance to practise his turning.  Even where enemies are not disintegrated by the turn they were normally destroyed quickly by Azuredge while they were cowering in a corner.  The various mini-quests were also completed (Uncle Nevin, adoption, teddy bear) before tracking down a group of kidnappers and retrieving a handsome ransom.

To continue the undead theme the next port of call was Umar Hills.  After retrieving a beljuril and rescuing a mage from his own creation it was time to investigate some temple ruins.  Fomin again showed his worth here; that included convincing a statue to give up its prize without answering any questions incorrectly (I can never remember them!).  Summons were used a couple of times to distract bone golems, but were not normally needed.  The session ended at the door to the dragon cave.

Bubble fighter 11 / illusionist 12, 518 kills (51 this session)
Fomin fighter 11 / cleric 11, 437 kills (56 this session)
Although Fomin's turn undead set up Bubble with quite a few victims, it looks like enough of the lower levels got disintegrated immediately to give him the win for that session.

Only Pai'na and four spiders survived a fireball so that must be 20-30 kills with one spell. Fomin is concentrating on staying alive, no way to keep up with dual-wield or arrows without taking undue risks!

Bubble, gnome fighter / illusionist (Grond0) & Fomin, dwarf fighter / cleric (Gate70)

An exiting session today, though as you know excitement is normally not a good idea in a no-reload challengeImage IPB.

The action started with taking on Thaxy.  That felt reasonably safe with Fomin protected from level drain by IMoD and Bubble by AoP.  However, Thaxy wiped out the initial summons quite quickly and a wing buffet bite combination was too quick for Fomin.  By this stage he had lost most of his magic resistance while Bubble was still buffed, so I was fairly confident.  However, the difficulty of using the pause button in multiplayer meant he got more attacks in than I expected before finally giving up the ghost.  By contrast the Shade Lord failed, as usual, to put up much of a fight.

Next up was Windspear Hills.  At the site of the initial orc ambush Fomin made the mistake of keeping his armour on - making it time-consuming for the archers to kill themselves by arrows bouncing off the reflection shieldImage IPB.  This dungeon was pretty straightforward.  The undead got penned back by Fomin turning and became Azuredge victims.  The golems were quickly dealt with by Azuredge and dwarven throwing hammer.  The ambushing party lost out to summons and the impact of an opening emotion.

Firkraag was left initially while the duo went to sort out some equipment.  However, the return journey was not without incident.  Bubble was by the cave entrance when he faintly heard Fomin say something about being held.  He thought that was part of a discussion about Firkraag, but when he turned round saw that Fomin's motionless body was being pummelled by a group of hobgoblins.  Quickly taking a potion of speed to get back there faster he dashed forward and let fly with a fireball and a few axe strokes later had ended the danger.

When they eventually returned to Firkraag this battle went pretty much to plan.  Pierce magic meant the dragon was taking heavy damage from the outset and he soon died (though we noted that he appeared to be immune to blade barrier).

Back in the city the duo made their first visit to the sewers.  Tarnor and most of his party didn't last long - blade barrier proving much more effective here.  Gaius hid until most initial buffs expired, but was quickly cut down by axe and flail.  Moving on the rakshasa and a sea troll provided a bit of gentle exercise before going to Mekrath's lab.  He turned hostile in conversation, but didn't last long to do anything about it.

Bubble now relaxed, just leaving it to Fomin to dodge bouncing lightning bolts from traps.  However, this proved to be a mistake as they were confronted by 3 yuan-ti mages.  Caught without buffs Bubble's saving throw of 0 proved inadequate against an opening chaos spell (which has a modifier of -2) and she started acting strangely.  Seeing the danger Fomin rushed to the rescue - cutting down 1 mage, but also running straight into a confusion spell.  At this point the duo started attacking each other while the mages next to them were flinging more spells into the fray.  Bubble's stoneskins proved effective and she was laughing maniacally as she cut down her companion.
Image IPB
This was still the most dangerous event of the run as Fomin had slowed her and she would still be confused for some time and therefore subject to spells from the 2 remaining mages.  She got a slice of luck as she walked round a corner and halted there for several rounds while the mages stayed where they were, but still had to work quite hard to finish them off before being able to get back to Fomin's body and resurrect him with the rod he had recently bought.

Bubble, gnome fighter / illusionist (Grond0) & Fomin, dwarf fighter / cleric (Gate70)

The duo made a bit more progress this session.  Although the central theme was probably 'kill the liches', there were plenty of distractions en route.

Starting in Mekrath's Lab it seemed reasonable to begin the action with a trip to the planar prison.  Bubble found the going quite hard there.  That was partly because she had cast MMM with Belm equipped - this causes a bug setting MMM attacks per round to 2 rather than 5.  She was also finding it difficult to target her spells - here she runs away and leaves Fomin to cope with some of those nasty Yuan-ti mages on his own.  The Master of Thralls was no problem, but the Warden made a nasty dent in available summons before eventually expiring to friendly fire from his own set of Yuan-ti.

Fomin found another bug when talking to Raelis Shai.  She gave XP for the talk, but Haer'Dalis didn't respond so the duo were stuck in the prison.  Fomin tried again a couple of times before Bubble eventually had a go as the protagonist and this time they were released.  However, they also had 132,000 XP too much by then, so a quick adjustment with Clua:Console was necessary before continuing.

The next destination was the Bridge District to get the lich there, but there was a bit of action first when a vampire ambush sprung (must have been a few out hunting when we trashed their HQ).  Caught without buffs Bubble indulged in a stoneskin and received a warning from the Cowled Wizards.  Fomin soon turned them and we then spent a bit of time hunting down the last one to find out where it had gone.  In the process Dracandros and his party were disturbed and provided a bit more XP.  Fomin then opened the various containers, but somehow managed to avoid standing on a trap in the process.  When Bubble came up to peer at the contents Fomin finally triggered a lightning trap - Bubble had spell protection up and would have been only lightly scorched anyway, but Fomin took a full quota of bounces.

The lich itself put up a decent fight by surviving long enough to get buffs up, gate in a demon and start off a meteor swarm.  In fact Bubble had already started running away when she looked over her shoulder and realised that her last swing with Azuredge had left a pile of empty robes on the floor.

Moving on to the Temple sewers the duo investigated a locked door and found a horde of mindflayers behind it.  This sequence went quite well - essentially Fomin kept a shield of summons going, while throwing his hammer, while Bubble mixed up melee and spells and retreated to a fall-back position when her brain was nibbled.

Next up was the beginning of the Unseeing Eye.  The first bit of excitement was when Fomin got caught in a web trap.  Bubble got the enjoyment of sending in one fireball to discourage the ettercaps, but before she could go for a second Fomin got unstuck by himself.  Before going to get the first part of the rift device the lich was tackled. Same approach as before with heavy buffs and both characters starting in melee - this time the lich turned into dust a bit quicker.

Going down to the temple the main expected hurdle was the group of beholders.  However, first Fomin had to negotiate a trap.  Bubble played a dirty trick on him here, initially saying the trap should be OK, only to say "I remember that now" as a prismatic spray washed over Fomin's petrified body - fortunately she had a stone to flesh scroll in her case.  Reviving Fomin resulted in another multiplayer bug as all quest items in Fomin's inventory not only stayed there, but got duplicated in Bubble's as well.

After dumping the duplicates the duo tackled the beholders.  An opening cloudkill made them suffer a bit and then a stream of summons were able to finish them off - the flesh golem again getting the final blow in.

Bubble fighter 13 / illusionist 13, 722 kills (73 this session)
Fomin fighter 12 / cleric 13, 601 kills (39 this session)

@Grond0 and Gate70: Looking good guys! No silly mistakes now...I want to see you two against Melissan and her goons!

My wife's been extremely busy, thanks to two weddings (that she was the photographer for) and also a funeral for my grandfather, and of course things relating to her arm, result of her car accident not too long ago. This means Goodguy and Badgirl are making slow progress, but we eventually will get more on those two, as the crazy busy-ness should have subsided this week.

Glad to hear it Corey - a bit of variety on this thread would go down well!

Hmm, well as you may have remembered, Goodguy and Badgirl failed at Umar Hills. So we will be posting in the minimal reload thread while we attempt to beat SoA and maybe ToB...

Once that is done, then we will try another no-reload from Candlekeep as multi-player.

However, when my wife can't play, I really should work on Trendan my Undead Hunter more, as he is in this thread himself, and his run is still going.

Bubble, gnome fighter / illusionist (Grond0) & Fomin, dwarf fighter / cleric (Gate70)

Well no need to worry about company for Bubble and Fomin anyway as their run just ended against Kangaxx.  They had initial problems against his first form, which saved against destroy undead a number of times and then debuffed and stunned Fomin.  Bubble was blocked off from coming to his aid by an efreeti and just watched as Fomin's health melted away.

Bubble retreated upstairs after she had killed the lich to resurrect Fomin.  The intention then was for him to sanctuary in and retrieve equipment.  This was in the belief that Kangaxx would not attack a sanctuaried person, but this proved to be an error and Fomin disappeared into his own personal prison.  Bubble used spell immunity and MMM to kill Kangaxx, but the damage had been done.  A search of available records suggested that Bubble would have to go all the way to the Underdark to get  the nearest scroll of freedom, which seemed just a tiny bit incompatible with the idea of a multiplayer game!

Sorry to hear that Grond0. But since Fomin wasn't the protagonist, you could have simply recruited a NPC, and assigned control to Gate70. Then once the freedom scroll was obtained, you could return here and return Fomin and reverted control to Gate70 for Fomin. That would certainly be multi-player, and doesn't violate any rules of the challenge. In fact, the only real drawback of this, is that doing the suggestion would take Gate70 out of the "immersion". But if Gate70 isn't using his own personal portrait and sound sets, he could just as well as role play Minsc as whatever character he was role-playing.

For the sake of completeness I'll briefly relate the demise of my latest kensai to graduate from BG1.

Banzai survived the dungeon without problems and cleared the circus and the Copper Coronet.  However, he came a cropper in Rayic's house when facing the stone golems.  He went up and down the stairs intending to set the golems up for an exchange of blows, but was faced by multiplying enemies

From this point when he used the stairs again he was always blocked by at least 2 golems.  Eventually he tried fighting his way out - but failed.

Uh, Grond0 isn't that a bug? I only get two golems when I got to Rayic's house -- do you have a mod that changes this? Also, surely the golem was tankable with a kensai who has girdle of bluntness on and a potion of absorption? Haste potion too, if you have one. Any strength potion could be useful too.

Anyways, if it's a bug you are allowed to reload is my point.

I agree it's a bug, but I reckon to live (or die) with that particular variety. I didn't have a potion of absorption, though I agree that would have been nice for that fight.
