UPDATE, 080112, Toddeia senora the sorceress.
Did the slaver ship mission without much trouble. It seems that the Renfeld assasins ambush is on permanent hold until I attempt the city gates. Interesting. There is *much* that can be done in the city when there is no pressure to leave it. (Minsc and Nalia). This 'evil' party is awesome. Ha! An 'evil' party led by 'good' me. Do my constant lies that I use to manage everything make me 'neutral' good or 'chaotic' good? I took the label of 'chaotic' good for my character.
I am only concerned that I do not commit acts of cruelty or harm another *innocent* sentient being, but I am *very* concerned about having gold and being rich, and in ultimately rescuing Imoen, "dealing" with the Bhaal heritage I never wanted, and retiring in comfort surrounded by my friends and lovers. What alignment does that make me, hmmmm?
So, I'm still trying to get Edwin into my party so I can get to know him. Learned that I had to go into the thieves' complex and start a quest chain. I've had the 'alternatives' mod installed for years, and have never done *any* of these quests due to my younger narrower views of 'good' and 'evil', so I'm a total noob in these storylines.
I started Mae'var's (*despical* creature! I plan to kill him!) quest chain to get Edwin. Stole the amulet of the high priestess of Talos. (Jan Jansen loaded up with invisibility spells is *awesome*!) *Significantly* increased our wealth due to Jan's awesomeness! Dang, no other rogue in the game compares! I don't know how I could ever *not* have Jan with me, unless I want to handicap myself tactically just to see some new dialogues with Imoen in ToB.
Soooo, I got to the battle with Rayic. Figured I could kill him with impunity, because he is part of the organization that kidnapped my Imoen! Killed two stone golems.

Jaheira got suspicious of my motives. I was honest with her. She didn't like it. I love the woman, but I guess she is going to have to go bye-bye so I can take Edwin with me - more arcane magic would be good, less divine magic is bad. I am still struggling with this decision. Anomen is curiously silent, when I would think he should be complaining vociferously against my decision to ally with the Shadow Thieves.

Got to the main battle. Again, Jan is fracking *awesome*! His monacle gives him 100 percent detect illusions! Wow! And I have him with two remove magic spells memorized, which also helped. Viconia got almost fried by Ray's first spell, so she went downstairs. Jan's removes failed to remove Ray's MgoI, so I felt pretty useless and vulnerable after casting haste and strength on all three metalheads, and I went downstairts too.
Did you know that PfmW is ridiculously easy to circumvent without any breach necessary? Just have all metalheads carrying normal weapons. That's what I was doing, and, voila!
We won the battle. It was quite satisfying to kill a rep of my Imoen's captors!
Here are the pics:

Areas Battled: Watcher's Keep (level 1), Reijek's basement, Warehouse with hostile party in Bridge District
Traveling with: Korgan, Minsc, Anomen, Edwin, Imoen
The party felt strong enough to tackle the 1st level of Watcher's Keep, so tackle they did. Just after the party defeated a mass of spiders, Trendan stepped on a trap! And worse, it looked like a save or else spell! He did save, and Trendan's saves vs. spells is 2, but still not liking the 5% chance of death. Imoen thief skills were sorely lacking here, so it was necessary to cancel our foray here to talk to Roger to get some potions of perception for Imoen. Then we came back and she did just fine.
I'm not certain it's a bug, or not, but when we talk to the old lich, he leaves us alone but the golems attack. So have to slay them. Korgan took a beating, but a RoR heal kept him breathing. Also, my info was incorrect - I thought Anomen was for sure going to get a HLA, and he was in fact way over the 3,000,000 mark - but didn't notice till now that he needed 3.15 million for his next level.
All right everything done but the statues. 4 Ariel Servants and a Wyvern were summoned. Some buffs, but not many. I started the battle with the first batch of statues -- one of them did an insect plague, so no spells, but the 3 melees and summons did plenty of damage and eventually victorious with no losses of the party. We then triggered the next batch, and the party again prevailed. Edwin did a whip, ruby ray of reversal and breach on one of the statue mages, otherwise, the remaining enemies all fell to the party's melee/ranged power.
Imoen is going to use the returning +3 dart, just so I don't have to fiddle with ammo management (she was using Tuigan's bow). The Foe Bane is going to Trendan (though he will continue to use Lilacor unless fighting an enemy the Foe Bane gets bonuses for). The paladin bracers, naturally also went to Trendan. No one has any scimitar skill, so the +4 scimitar is just going to hang out in my bag of holding. I pretty much never get rid of +4 weaons, since eventually need for Melissan. Korgan and Imoen gained a level here at the first level of the Keep.
The party returned to the Bridge District. Before going into a Warehouse, the party did pretty much minmal buffs - Berserk, armor of faith on the divine casters of the group, and mirror images for the mages. This was more than enough to take down the enemy party found in the warehouse. A horrid wilting by Edwin finished off the enemy mage. The mage did manage to summon a Nabussu, but it wasn't any help. Imoen again couldn't detrap, so used her final potion of perception.
While the potion was active, might as well deal with Reijek. The party did do a lot of defensive buffs, like protection evil 10' and defensive harmony, bless, haste and chant. This destroyed the enemies waiting for us downstairs. We reported the news of who the murderer was to the Sergeant at the entrance to the Bridge District and he was pleased -- though as usual, Korgan and Edwin complained about our reputation.
We sold our junk to the merchant at Galean Bayle's place, but he won't buy this halberd we got from Watcher's Keep. Guess we have to wait until night time to get rid of it. Ended the session here for now.

LOL - I love to roleplay and be in character. But on a practical note, I see you have Minsc and Edwin in this party. So to repeat, aren't you worried? Or do you have some plans ahead to separate the two? (Lethally or not.)

@Corey, great progress, friend! Aren't you worried about carrying Minsc and Edwin in this party? I loved Dynaheir as much as Minsc, but "the Great" Edwin "Hoodoo the Magnificent" did once reveal plans to kill her for personal gain. He didn't do it, (if you play it like I do), but I don't think that Minsc has the mental capacity to separate motive from actual commission of the crime.

I haven't had any trouble. We made it through chapter two and the Underdark, and the two guys are still in the party. But it doesn't really matter, especially at this late stage, as we will probably replace Minsc with Sarevok in ToB anyways. If Minsc tries to kill Edwin, Minsc is dead. : ) We can certainly take down SoA with just the five of us, if needed.

Ok... now what?
Mazzy was keen to have words with the Shade Lord but Vicky soon vetoed that... as our un-dead specialist she has the deciding vote. Nalia & Jaheira are happy enough to let others decide but Mazzy was upset about not avenging Patrick so as a compromise; I suggested returning to the slums so that Valygar could get the wizards off his back by opening the front door & Mazzy quickly agreed to helping her friend so we set off on the mourn.
Slums to shops:

We opened the spear without incident then had to fight off a couple ambushes whilst starting some basic quests... note to self, traveling without a trap disarming thief can be hazardous.
Docks to bridge:

I did the Nalia (funeral) & Jaheira (curse) quests then collected/ lost Haer’dalis & I just finished purchasing my normal pre-Astral Prison spells to get him back when Nalia got herself arrested... I needed her arcane so the bard had to wait a bit more.

The normal scroll of ‘DeathFog’ tactic proved worthless because every time I tried to battle the Master of Thralls for his control orb the game crashed but fortunately for us the Warden is a typical man... they just can’t resist Jaheiras’ nymph when she gives them the giggle!
Bug & issues;
I did encounter a game crashing bug with the Master Thralls... note to self, check spin997.spl on next install.

Thanks. There was never a threat of death there. The only issue was whether she'd have to burn her emergency Teleport Field scroll to lift some of the summons out of the way.@Alesia - nice save of your run vs. the priests of Talos - even in vanilla, they can hit extremely hard (as I found out from a failed pick-pocket as well in a different run), but much worse with your difficulty mods.

Garruk, Male Chaotic Good Beastmaster, Str 18-73/ Dex 18/ Con 18/ Int 11/ Wis 17/ Cha 10, **Clubs and Quarterstaves, ***Two Weapon Style, *Two-Handed Weapon Style.
The idea is to Dual class to cleric as soon as Imoen frees Garruk. I've never played a Beastmaster before. Rather than doing a Generic Ranger I thought make Garruk a Wildman who shows compassion to those who are in need. Almost a Minsc like person without the temperment.

Alyssa's jaunt through the Umar Hills was pretty uneventful- so much so that I felt obligated to have her take down Thaxy just to have something to post on. In sum, it was a pair of disappointments followed by a perfectly safe, but lengthy fray.
Disappointment 1:
Noting that Alyssa doesn't have the experience to fit Level 5s into Contingencies and consequently can not yet turn herself into an undead cuisinart (You'll see this later).
Disappointment 2:
Learning that the +10 v Undead on the Phantom Blade is not multiplied in backstabs sending Alyssa back to the Staff of Striking.
Not bad.

Better.

As you've probably inferred, the rest of the blokes in the temple met similar ends. The Shade Lord got Pro Undead locked in with SI:A (just in case).
Then Thaxy.
The Plan: Wear the AoP. Buff with Potion of Mind Focusing, Potion of Defense, Potion of Heroism, Oil of Speed, Stoneskins, Strength, Minor Spell Deflection, Vampiric Touch, Resist Fear, Blur, Mirror Image, Draw on Holy Might. Keep Oils of Speed, Potions of Heroism, Potions of Clarity, and Potions of Extra Healing at the ready. Stock the Spellbook with MSDs at 3, Stoneskins at 4, and SI at 5. Maintain a movement rate advantage, use the spellbook for defense, and then wear down Thaxy with range weapons and wands.
Execution: The battle went according to plan- Alyssa was never in danger. As expected, it took a while though due to SCS Thaxy's aggressive use of Wing Buffetting and Invisibility on the one hand, and Alyssa's uncomplicated, deliberate approach on the other. The Better Staying Power for Dragon's component contributed as well.
Thaxy opened with ProMW+Remove Magic. Alyssa's SI:A foiled the Remove, a Breach negated Thaxy's ProMW.

That created an opening for a few good Staff of Striking wallops.

With Thaxy's Remove consumed, and MSD acting as a Breach foiler (SCS only, Spell Shield plays this role in vanilla), Thaxy's only option at this point was Malison->Chaos. A Potion of Clarity put an end to that threat.

Did a little more work with the Staff of Striking while Alyssa still had plenty of Stoneskins.

Refreshed the MSD to protect against Breach (as well as Thaxy's COrbs).

Endgame.

Fin!
Best,
A.
Btw. Best of luck Krazy Solo.

As far as my party choices, I'm leaning toward a full on Nature party. AKA Jaheira, Minsc, Valygar, and Cernd, but... I don't how I feel on not having a thief around. I'm sucker for thieves even though I don't like the pure class thieves much. I hate to leave behind the free experience from disabling traps and locks.

Alyssa has completed the Windspear Hills quest. Smooth saling once again.
Took the Paladins down by buffing up the Spider. Using Improved Haste with the Spider form gets you 8 posion attacks per round. Taking Stength via Minor Sequencer after shifting followed by DUHM pushes Strength into the 20s. With an effective AC in the negative teens, Stoneskins and Mirror Images, it's a tough bug to crunch.

Backstabbing Ruhk Transmuter got Alyssa an assist. The Kamikaze Kobolds got the kill.

Used a Potion of Absorption against the first Golem crew.

Alyssa couldn't resist going ProUndead here: there was just way too much undeath going on in this room...
She enjoyed wrecking havoc on the Vamps.

Finished with a nice backstab.

Used some Staff of Striking charges on the Greater Wolfweres- insta chunking makes you regen worries go away...

Not wanting to burn another Potion of Absorption, Alyssa used Ras to create some seperation in the next Golem group.

Ate Tazok and Chief DigDag.

Conster. This was a standard SCS mage kill.
Buffed and used MSD+SI:D+SI:A to lock in. Opened with a Dart of Stunning (failed). Immediately vanished.
Round counted, and then tried a dispelling Arrow as soon a ProMW wore off. However, Conster refreshed in time unsurprisingly.

Alyssa's time visible can be judged from the flight of her Arrow.

Conster wandered, creating a window to take down the Mordy Swords with a Death Fog.

Vanished as soon as Conster appeared.

Endgame.

Then Samia.
Opened by popping Kaol.

The rest followed quickly.

Got some help from Mr. Efreeti while finishing Ironblade (he kept hiding in Shadows).

Fin!
Best,
A.

@Alesia - impressive work on Thaxy! By the way, a little question - you fight regulary in Polymorph form. Did you ever faced the bug I mentioned earlier? :

Update of BlackStrider & Co (liberation of De'Arnise Hold).
On the way to Nalia's Keep we encountered a group of thugs killing a guy. Fight with pre-buffed scs mages and priests whist traveling (i.e. *naked* of our own buffs) proved to be tricky. So, we used our Potions of Invisibility (note to myself - travel under Invisibility 10' Radius from now on to spare precious potions), moved out of sight, buffed, called summons and engaged:

Then we took the body of Renfield to Rylock and tried to rescue Montaron from the Harpers:
After that we took a look on local Graveyard - started Buried Alive questline, brought Wellyn his Teddybear "Littleman" and looted some tombs.
And then, after all those forced *sidetrips* we finally arrived to the Nalia's Keep.

Killing Torgal (Nalia made her revenge all by herself and now leads the party's top list of the kills) gave me level 11 (got one level 6 spell plus one more use of True Sight and Seeking Sword innate abilities) so I finally eagerly dualed to mage. Learning all gathered spell scrolls and Nalia's experience reward gave me 7 levels, Familiar Kitty - some more hit points so I'm not that pity and useless low level mage now and we are ready to look at the Trademeet problems.
Current state:
BlackStrider - Priest of Helm (11) inactive / Mage (7), 24 kills (Cohrvale);
Jaheira - Fighter (9) / Druid (12), 70 kills (Clay Golem);
Nalia - Thief (4) / Mage (11), 72 kills (TorGal)
to be continued...

Yes. I didn't chime in because I didn't have much too add by way of solutions.
As I understand it, Shapeshifting is basically a spell with a casting time of 0. It is intended to be uninteruptable, but if your are hit at the exact moment you shift, the "spell" can be lost. This can leave you stuck if it happens when Polymorph Self of Shapechange expire. To solve the problem, you have to somehow get the Polymorph Human special ability back. Casting via scroll or using the Cloak of the Sewers are among the options.
It's a clear bug so using Ctrl-r makes sense: it's a debug rather than a cheat here to my mind.
Best,
A.

Did the Baron Ployer business because it overlapped and became essential as part of getting Edwin. I took the path of bribing Ployer's pet casters. I have an ironclad rule of no cruelty, and the poor weakling begged for his life and was ready to make a deal, which I agreed to. Unfortunately, Jaheira disagreed with my mercy and whacked him fatally in the head before I could register what was happening. She had already expressed displeasure with me the morning before when I had tried to make light of our mutual bad dreams. Despite our long history together, I fear that I cannot find the words and the actions to console her after the horrible death of her husband, and I feel us growing farther and farther apart. I think a break is imminent, and that she will return to her Harpers in a fit of depression and anger.
(Please spoil me here - if I were playing male, I'm pretty sure my decisions would have broken the romance by now - wrong decision to show mercy to Ployer, wrong answer after a bad dream.)
I rested for 24 hours to get rid of Jaheira's curse, and we returned to our undercover mission against Pinkshorts. We eventually were assigned an assassination against a low-level Shadow Thieves operative, but he pleaded for mercy and revealed a plot to assassinate the Shadow Thieves leader. My code of no-cruelty demanded that I show him mercy. He gave us his official knife so we could fool Pinkshorts into thinking we had killed him, and I let him go.
Surprisingly, Ano chided me for this. For a man who wants to be a Knight, he has an awful dark streak in him! I have stopped trusting him. Twice now, he has berated me and verbally abused me, and then begged for forgiveness with tears and boyish charms in the morning. I see the classic signs of a woman-beater here. And yet, my nurturing instinct *still* wants to bring him through his obvious pain! Nevertheless, if he grabs me, pushes me, or hits me, even once, he will be out of my party so fast he won't know what hit him! And if he menaces me for even a second after that, he will learn what a threatened sorceress does to abusive men! It will not be pretty!
<calming self down> So, we continued our undercover mission. Thiefleader said he needed written proof of the treachery against him. We went back to Edwin, and he offered to join our side against Pinkshorts. I reluctantly sent Jaheria back to Harperville, where I suspected she wanted to be anyway, to make room for him.
We got the proof and went back to Thiefleader. He said, "great", and ordered us to finish off Pinkshorts and his rival guildhouse ourselves. Hmmph. Okay, then.
Here is a shot of the start of little party in Pinkshort's guildhouse:

And another shot of Pinkshort's easy defeat, courtesy of haste, strength, chaos, and emotion:sleepy:

I was about to go from this successful mission for the Shadowthieves to try to help my old friend Xzar rescue my other old friend Montaron from the Harper complex, where apparently Monty is now being held for who knows what, when Korgan all of a sudden complained about not pursuing the Cowled Wizards bounty we had gotten much earlier. Godsdangittoheck! I thought I had gotten rid of his "do this now or I'm leaving" business when I went to great danger and trouble to get his last bounty! Godsdangittoheck!
Sooo, we went to Umar Hills. Korgan pissed off a peasant who was implying that he knew the location of a bejuril gem! Godsdanittoheck! I am starting to like Grumpy Dwarf less and less.
We eventually found the bounty target. He was a beautiful, noble man. He pleaded with us for mercy, and explained that we had been duped, and that the Cowled Wizards only wanted a way to enter the mysterious sphere in Athkatla. I chose to show mercy, and to join his side. Korgan left in a huff...I think he would have slaughtered all of us if he didn't know he was outnumbered and outmatched against all of us together. He took the Stonefire Axe +3 and all the extra healing and other valuable potions I had given him, along with a substantial amount of other *party* wealth he was holding. Dang it!

Sigh. I'm thinking about now whether to finish the Umar Hills missions, since we're already here, or to head on back to Athkatla and finish the city adventure I was hoping for. Errrgh.

1. She has divine spells that she shouldn’t & at least the same amount of time spent on story as Imoen.
2. She has a lot of trouble keeping her anger in check and was given to the Druids to raise when a child just as you were taken by Gorion & yes I know that means that she must have lied to you about her age... shocking!

You could say that Jaheira is Amelyssan gone "right". I wonder if they are related?
As a half-elf, Jah matures more slowly than humans, so is not "robbing the craddle" as much as Viconia or Aerie could be said to do. And we don't know how long she and Khalid were hitched.
Or you could just argue that Jaheira is the prototype Cougar (although she prefers Bear form).
