Alastria’s Journal: Entry 12

Ok. I’m pretty fed up with Bodhi and Valen now. They wouldn’t come to my sphere warming party. They didn’t even offer a lame excuse. They just flat out rejected me. I can’t believe it!

I’ll show them! When I get Imoen back -and I’m all settled in- I’m going to the turn the Planar Sphere into the best
nightclub in Athkatla- everyone will want to be here. And when Bodhi and Valen try to get in, I’ll just say: “Sorry, no fluezy gothers allowed. Check the dress code you foofers!” That’ll show ‘em. Right Tweedles?

Yeah. The party was a little disappointing. It ended up being just me and the Thunderburps. Samuel is such a dear. He even closed up the Flagons bar for a while so he and his wife could come. There may be Bad Halflings in this world, but there are Super Halfings to. I’m so glad I met them.

We sent off the Solamnic Knight and then had a few drinks from Samuel’s special stock. He even brought me some dusty wine bottles to keep in the sphere- so sweet. Still, it wasn’t what I hoped. I thought this sphere warming party was going to be the start of my new life here in Athkatla- and not just as a tourist anymore. But when all was said and done, and Samuel and Thalia went home, it was just me and the Tweedles alone in this big sphere. I almost wanted to go back to my room at the Flagons. Sad.

I guess I just have to find Imoen- that’s what it boils down to. I got so excited about seeing new places and making new friends that I forgot that she’s the one who really cares about me. I know I get on her nerves sometimes, but she’s my sis. People like Bodhi and Valen can never replace her. Never.

So yeah. Now that the Knights are gone, and my apprenti are settled in, I’m just going to jump through Bodhi’s hoops and get to Imoen. It’s just business between me and Bodhi from now on. I tried, I really did.

There’s once last thing I need to take care before finding Imoen. Samuel said he’s having some trouble with his playhouse. One of his star actors has vanished and he needs a heroine detective to find him. I’m sort of eager to get to Imoen now, but I just can’t let Samuel down- not after all he’s done.

That’s all I feel like writing now. I just want to get some sleep.

Alastria’s Journal: Entry 13

I feel SO much better today. I was kind of down last night. But when I woke up this morning, my apprenti gave me a brand new dagger. They made it just for me. It even has a little dove carved into the handle. And it can fly back to me just like a bird would! It’s just great- really cheered me up.

Yeah. I love my super-cool new dove dagger. I hope it helps me solve Samuel’s problems with the playhouse.

The whole situation is kind of a mess now. Samuel’s actors are all hanging out in a snaky tube. Not good for business you know? So yeah, I have to get them out of there.

I should probably explain. I went over to the Flagons and checked out the playhouse. I could see what Samuel meant right off. The acting troupe was way on the awful. Just terrible.

I talked to the troupe leader, and learned that one of their key member had been abducted by a wizard named Mekrath. They wanted me to track him down. And since I’m a super heroine detective, I did.

It took a while, but I eventually found the wizards lair. It was a dumpy, stuffy pit, deep in the sewers. Not even I could fix that place up. I had no desire to linger. None.

I confronted the wizard ASAP and asked him to release the actor. He was a little gruffly about the whole thing, but he agreed- so long as I got him a mirror. A mirror? Huh? And I thought I was vain! But I guess you have to get your kicks somehow if you’re livin’ alone in the sewers.

Anyhoo. I got Mekrath his mirror, and he released the actor as agreed. That’s when I met him. His name is Haer Daelis-  interesting guy: very deep, really political, great eyebrows.

But yeah. He’s an activist. He and his troupe were on the run because they did a satire that got under the skin of the local authorities. Pretty exciting. I guess I feel a little self conscious around people like that? Still, it made me feel good to be involved- even if I didn’t have the slightest idea what was going on.

Here’s the bad part. When I brought Haer Daelis back to the playhouse, I was expecting to get my praises, maybe even a little show. But no. Instead, the actors opened this snaky planar conduit and summoned a bunch of Bounty Hunters. They’re on the lamb and they just lay out a welcome mat for the Bounty Hunters? What a silly-dilly thing to do!

So yeah. Now Samuel isn’t just one actor short of a troupe: he doesn’t have any actors at all. And now I have to go into the snaky tube and get all the actors out! Bummers!

I don’t want to stumble into anything though. I’ve decided to rest up and gather some supplies before heading in. Something tells me my travel guide isn’t going to help me in there...

Gaming Note: Alastria has acquired a new personal item: the Dagger of the Tweedles. This is the aforementioned "super-cool new dove dagger." It is identical to Firetooth +3 but does Cold Damage instead of Fire and looks like the Stiletto. I won't let her use it untill she acquires Firetooth +3. This is the only item she will get from her apprenti

Good luck, grond0!

Titania, now level 24 Great Druid

In the Planar Sphere, Sauaghin and Halflings were defeated by lesser Summons and Insect Plague. This was enough to pretty much clear the first level of the Sphere, even though I summoned Imix, because the Elder Orb just took too long. After a short rest, Lavok was defeated by Spirit Animals. Outside, the demons quickly fell to the power of a fallen deva (also immune to fire, and I used CC on her). The mages were outsummoned and eventually, they Died. With the remaining summoning spells, Titania cleared the Fire Room and the Ice Room. I didn't bother fighting the Golems (it's a ltitle bit dangerous and takes very long, and I don't need the experience right now), I just used the Demon Heart and went back while invisible.

After the Sphere was finished, it was time to finish the Cult of the Eyeless. I have no interest in fighting any Beholders with this Solo Druid, so I decided to get the Key, kill the Shadow Lich with a fallen Deva and then go back, kill Ghaal and the Beholder without doing the sceptre-sidequest (which would force me to fight a lot more beholders. Sunnis took care of all the enemies here.

Now, there was one thing left to do before getting to Brynnlaw: The Windspear Hills. Used lesser summons for the first level, and had to summon Deva + Energy Blades to kill an Adamantite Golem. A fallen Deva with activated Orb of Blades took care of the Undead.
After my Fire Elementals defeated all of the Guardians, the evil graverobber group was killed with regular summons and two Insect Plague spells.
Another Adamantite Golem was in my way, and I realized that spirit animals actually deal damadge to him. Good thing, I have the Deva  for tanking, I can use "Heal" on him if necessary, he will stun the golem frequently. Titania decided to ignore the optional adamantite golem. There was a group with 3 higher wolfweres, and the only way to deal enough burst damadge to kill them were Energy Blades.

Some summons defeated Tazok, and I called some additional elementals for Conster.
Now, it was time to defeat Firkraag himself. Used Fire Elementals, Deva, protection from fire, the Deva's protection from fear and some other buffs. Later in the fight, I summoned Imix, who turned out to be immune to Firkraags melee attacks - something I actually didn't know!
Anyway, the Dragon resisted all of my Nature's Beauty and Insect Plague spells, but finally fell to Energy Blades, which proved to be extremely effective.
Back to Garren, then to the Docks and to Brynnlaw. A fallen deva defeated the Vampires and that's it for now!

Wow. Wow! I just got back from the weirdest place I’ve ever seen. And coming from a girl who lives in a Planar Sphere, that’s saying a lot.

It was a Planar Prison suspended in the middle of nowhere. The architect must have been a lunatic! It was completely white inside- all sorts of glare issues. And you could never keep those floors clean! Plus, there where these fleshy mouthed pits you could fall into. It may have been planar and all, but it was nothing like my super-cool party sphere. Just awful.

But I guess this place wasn’t designed for parties. It was suppose to be a prison. Guess what though. The Tweeds and I, we orchestrated a little jailbreak.

Remember the snaky tube I mentioned- the one that all the activists went through? It led to this Planar Prison I’ve been talking about. Not a good place to be. Loaded with Yuan-Ti Bounty Hunters, Demons, Cambions- total foofer convention. I got through it though. Here's what happened.

As soon as I entered, I was attacked by Yuan-Ti Bounty Hunters and weird bardy guys with two handed-swords. What a mess! Fortunately, I came in buffed and ready so I blew through it. The first thing I did was annihilate this mage with Meteors before he could get his protections up. Then, I flipped into Spider Form, puller my Strength Mirror Image Minor Sequencer, fired up Draw on Holy Might, and went to town. They didn’t last long.

View My Video  NW: Previously posted

After that, I figured I should rush ahead and get as far as I could while my buffs were running. I mowed down some Thralls.

I decided to rest and take stock of things at that point. It's a good thing I did. Around the next bend, I ran into a gaggle of Yuan-Ti,  a couple of other Thralls, and a Wyvern. Yikes!

It wasn't so bad: I just used my standard tactics. I buffed up, switched to Spidy form, ate the Warriors, and then went Jelly on the Mages. Simple-Dimple.

The next thing I had to do was kill this demon. He called himself the Master of Thralls- clearly a little on the self-indulgent side. I figured I should rememorize my spells first because Demons can be a little dangerous. I ducked out of view and got my spells back.

Right. So here’s the problem with Demons: they’re resistant to magic and immune to fire damage. Where does that leave a girl like me? Growling and snarling in Flind form. Usually that it. But I decided to try something a little different this time.

I buffed up with with my usuals. But instead of shifting into Flind form, I became a Rat. I also changed my Minor Sequencer to include Shield, pulled a Trigger with Phatom Blade to give the ratty-rat a decent weapon, and cast Vampiric Touch to buff his hitpoints. You think you’re tough demon, but I bet you’ve never fought a buffed Rat before! (A: Seriously, it’s a pretty weird thing to do…)

I kicked Demon butt in my Rat  form. I took a couple hits from Air Elementals. But since I had like, 84 hitpoints, and they could only do 3 damage per hit to my Rat, it totally wasn't a problem.  All I had to do was nibble away and my Strength of 23 did the rest. Victory!

http://i1195.photobu...Prison022-1.jpg
http://i1195.photobu...arPrison023.jpg

Yup. So once the Demon was dead, the Tweedles and I freed all the prisoners and went after the true kingpin of the place: the Cambion. He was a fighter/mage guy flanked by some Yuan-tis. He wasn’t too tough though.

Actually, I was able to drop the Cambion himself super quick with Meteors. I didn't expect to kill him before he got his buffs up, but I did (*). So, it was just me and the Yuan-Ti.

http://i1195.photobu...arPrison026.jpg

The fighters were dropped in Spidy form of course.

http://i1195.photobu...arPrison027.jpg
http://i1195.photobu...arPrison029.jpg

The Mages tried to fight the Jelly with summons- Mordy Swords, Skeleton Warriors, that sort of thing. But I went invisible, flipped back, buffed up, killed the Summons, and got back into my Jelly. And once the mages were low on spells, I erected spell protections, went Spider, buffed my Strength, pulled my Phantom Blade-Improved Haste-Tenser's Trigger and gobbled them up super fast. 8 APR, THACO of -6, ~17 Damage per hit- all while running Stoneskins, Mirror Image, Spell Turning, Globe of Invulnerability and a bunch of other stuff. Have fun with that snaky-snakes!

http://i1195.photobu...arPrison031.jpg

So yeah. That was the end. Kind of exhausting and all but really satisfying- and not just because of the praises and prizes. Samuel's actors were free, and now at least one friend knows he can count on me. It's time to make it two. Hang on Imoen! I'm on my way!

*Gaming Note: I need to be careful about that. It's possible to kill mages who are slowed by dialogue with meteors before they get their buffs up. That happened twice here. Of course, this breaks the intended design of the encounter- they're supposed to be prebuffed. I'll try to avoid doing this again.

If you don't mind to add a small tweak to your list you could:
1) make Mustard Jelly as per PnP (it has 10% magic resistance not 100%!! Developers probably made a "small" mistake)

This argument is made even stronger when you note that the Cloak of the Sewers MJ has only 10% MR...

I'd hate to lose the MR from this form though, as it is the only good reason to shift to it (although the physical resistances are still considerable).

The polymorph jelly has several more differences then the sewers jelly so it is probably intentional(notably physical resistances).

Titania, now level 26 Great Druid

Brynnlaw.

First, I decided to visit Perth and grant him some Energy Blades. I decided to visit Galvena in Fire Elemental Form and I defeated her and her mage without any Problems. I entered Spellhold and was captured by Irenicus. In the Dream Sequence, the fact that Fire Elemental form has the same immunites as regular fire elementals helped alot against Bhaal, who couldn't hit me because of that. After fighting some Yan-Ti-mages, Titania started clearing the first level, mainly using lesser summons and Chan for the Portal.

Next level, some undead and yan-ti were defeated by Sunnis and Fallen Deva - the Lich was not really dangerous. In Earth Elemental form, some Cobolds were destroyed (yay, 2 apr! fire elemental has only 1... these forms are really weak, only use is getting fire immunity if you don't have time for buffing or maybe gaining immunity to normal and +1 weapons).

Nothing of interest happened in the next level, were some fire elementals and the occasional spirit animals just finished every enemy and Titania helped with her throwing dagger or energy blades.

Jon Irenicus himself was no problem at all. I didn't even do that much, only summoned a few spirit animals and a fallen deva and he was defeated. On the way back, Titania accepted Saemon's Offer, stole the Sea Horn and met some Pirates on her way back.

In Sauaghin City, some summons were sent all around the map, destroying all the sauaghin groups, while Titania herself and a fallen deva dealt with the Bone Golem. With my 80 Acid Resistance, the trap here was no problem. Anyway, Titania then gathered her summons (after getting the Cloak of Mirroring) to defeat the sea zombies, fought her way to the prince and killed the king. Yay, new Weapon (and the first melee weapon that actually deals a decent amount of damadge, even though thac0 and apr are still horrible)!

The Great Druid entered Underdark, and that's it for now.

Nice going against the Yuan Ti mages Alesia, for some reason those guys give me more problems than any other SCS mage, at least, at the stage of the game you encounter them.

Europa's randomized party, final update for SoA and the begining of ToB.

First quest after the underdark is the Twisted Rune HQ - I didn't get the note about this place from Koshi (didn't have Nalia in the party, so no clues lead us to guarded compound) - but we were in the area solving the case of Tirdir's kidnappers so I rp this as just stumbling across a weird portal.

I made a minimod to give the fighter in the Twisted Rune some equipment and ensure the mages don't harm their allies with e.g. meteor storms. Screenshot here. Made the encounter a bit more realistic, but it still goes smoothly; sunrays for Shangalar, flame arrow sequencer for Vaxall, insect plague for Layenne, MoD for Shyressa.

The party's buffs were still up after the rune fight, so completed the Kangaxx quests while we were at it. Here I did things sloppily which results in the 2nd party death this playthrough... The Shade and Elelmental liches are defeated quickly (they used improved mantle, which doesn't protect against MoD), but I forgot Kangaxx even in his lich form can take a lot more punishment than a regular lich... he survived sunray, prismatic spray and delayed blast fireballs and had time to bounce quite a few spells of Karenina's shield of the Archon's with the result that she was unprotected when demilich appeared. I had her spam the rod of absorption but, annoyingly, Kangaxx kept targetting her rather than the PC in slayer form and she was imprisoned.

After retrieving Karenina, the party travels to druid grove where Europa challenges to becomes great druid - who is the druid challenger you fight anyway? Never got a chance to learn much about him - then to Bodhi's lair for the final battle, I didn't recruit any allies (i.e. Drizzt) this time, but it was straightforward. One good thing about our mage, Radeel, is his high wisdom allowing him to use limited wish (i.e. NPP on the entire party).

On the way back to Elhan with the Lanthorn we encounter the North Forest Cyricists: Stunned the mage before he could use his Time Stop scroll, the first one we've found in this game.

Suldanessellar went well, Crom + rod of smiting turned out to be worthwhile investments for the sheer number of golems here. Rested only once to prepare for the fight with the dragon, including protection from acid (Demin told us he was a black dragon, so not metagaming) which turned out to be a waste of time because Nizi failed his save against FoD. I'm actually kinda glad ToB put an end to these anticlimatic dragon fights... Europa also gained level 15, but no HLA's (using delay HLAs from BGTweaks, it'll be a while before any of us get them)

Irenicus on the Tree of Life did nothing special and was defeated quickly. I tried the three Elder Orbs in the fear cavern without the cloak of mirroring, and I was pleased when the party managed it.

Irenicus's final form in hell behaved strangely, he didn't bother with timestop but went straight to damaging spells + melee attacks... some mod added AI which didn't uninstall, I guess. Shvananna died here because I was concentrating on Irenicus and not her health bar and she got owned by a glabrezu (4apr glabrezus are nasty on insane). Still, Irenicus fell without further problems and we continue the adventure to ToB (SoA took 36 days of gametime, I expect the sequel to be less).

Lazy day! Yeah. I had a lazy day today. I feel a bit guilty- I know Imoen is waiting for me. But I needed a break to succeed. So I took one.

I did some shopping, organized my spells, and just relaxed. I also came up with some super-cool new ideas for the nightclub. It’s going to be great! I can’t wait to tell Imoen about it.

While I was mostly lounging, I did get a little work done. I spoke with Bodhi. I’m not really mad at her over the whole sphere warming party thing anymore. I've decided that people like her simply don't matter- I don't need their approval and I'm not going to seek it anymore. Still, she’s so rude! I'm really not enjoying working with her. Whatever. She can help me to Imoen and that's what's important now.

This evening Bodhi asked me to swipe some crates guarded by the thieves. It got a little messy, and I had no idea why I had to do it. The crates were filled with bottled water and wooden stakes. Why bother? I mean, I like bottled water and all: the Tweeds and I always have a couple bottles on us- every good traveler goes. But it isn’t something to fight over- unless you're running out that is.

I asked Bodhi to explain, but she didn’t feel like talking to me. What else is new huh?

I think I've figured it out though. Bodhi lives in the Graveyard District. The Graveyard District- that's the key. Here's the other piece to the puzzle: she only goes out at night. So, here's what must be going on. They probably don't have plumbing in the Graveyard District. So, Bodhi relies on bottled water. And since she only goes out at night, all the thieves have to do is rip off the 24 hr stores and Bodhi is stuck without water. They're trying to starve her out!

For all her fauts, Bodhi is slick. She's striking back by intercepting the bottle water shipments before they reach the 24hr stores. Clever huh?

I’m still not sure what the woodie things are for. All I know is that you can’t use ‘em for grave rubbings. I'm sure I'll figure it out soon though.

Anyhoo. I better get some sleep. I have a lot of work to do tommorrow. Imoen is still waiting for me.

I had a pretty good day today. I'm one step closer to Imoen, and my apprenti are shaping up. I think they'll be fine.

I'm really starting to bond with them to. Ok, not all of them. Morul is a foofer- there's nothing I can do about that. Nara and I are really hitting it off though.

Nara was a little skeptical of me at first. I mean, she came in with all these expectations of what her teacher was going to be like. I don't think the Tweeds and I fit the image. Still, she's come around. I fixed her up with some super cool boots and a sexy cloak. She's looking good now. I even found her a birdie. She named it Imoen- after my sis. Isn't that sweet?

I also taught her how to change into a Mustard Jelly. I figure that's a good thing for her to know in case that foofer Morul decides to blow something up. That should keep her safe. I did tell her to look into those Abjuration spells later on though. I think she'll study them when she gets the chance.

But yeah. My apprenti are doing fine and I should get to Imoen soon. I rescued one of Bodhi's pals and now I think
she's on the verge of telling me were Immy is. The sooner the better. It'd be good to see her again.

I should get going. I'm suppose to meet wih Bodhi soon. I think I'm going to bring her a case of water. You know, to see how she reacts. That might tell me if I'm on the right track with this water crisis thing.

Ooh! It's later than I thought. Gotta go.

Congrats on finishing SoA Polytope- very well done.

Best of luck in ToB!

Cheers,

A.

Btw. Your run is getting me interested in randomly generated parties. I may try one sometime soon.

I can understand that. The Yuan Ti are well scripted and you do run into bunches of them.

In general, mages haven't been much of a problem for Alastria so far since she's always in Jelly form, invisible, or running SI:A+SI:D (or RoAC+Non Detection) along with Spell Shield, Globe of Invulnerability, and Spell Turning. A mage would need to send 3 removers through Improved Invisibility without Alastria refreshing in order to get a window to take down her Spell Immunities. None of the mages she's encountered so far have had a chance to do that. The Yuan-Ti don't really have a shot at all since they only use Secret Word and Remove Magic to debuff. So, they're basically stumped whether she's in human form or Jelly

Hm, it seems like the AI should be attacking you with area damage (L5 and higher, of course) whenever you are not in Jelly since you don't currently run elemental protections.

She hasn't needed them. There aren't any threatening 5+ AoE damage spells in the early/mid-game.

At 5 you have Sunfire. But that's difficult to script unless you have a solitary mage or a group of  fire protected mages without fighters or summons. Plus, it's crowded out by Breach, Spell Immunity, Oracle and Animate Dead.

Cone of Cold has similar issues.

She's been taking SI:Ev whenever she's run into mages likely to cast those.

At 6, you have Death Fog. But I'd be happy to see them cast that since it can easily be turned against scripted foes.

At 7, you have Delayed Blast Fireball which is crowded out and awkward to use in a script.

At 8, you have Wilting, but Alastria wears the Belt of Inertial Barrier and has negative saving throughs so it's a minor annoyance at best. This is the only one she's actually seen in combat.

Also, Alastria has Vampiric Touch so she typically has at least 90 Hitpoint in Human Form. As a practical matter, it's like damage resistance.

She has Protection from Energy now which will cover spells to come.

Best,

A.

Quick Note on Alastria's Game:

Alastria is currently in Spellhold. I'm not sure what to do with Imoen.

From an RP standpoint, it makes sense for them to team up. Plus Alastria, is in danger of becoming over leveled at this point so it may be better from a balancing perspective to give her some team members.

Is there strong interest in seeing her continue solo? If so, I'll do that. But otherwise, I'll probably have her duo with Imoen now, and have her set up a team when she gets to Athkatla. She will fight Bodhi alone though (That's personal for her).

Wow.. this place is hoppin' :D

Good luck Grond0 and Shadow_Leech07

Enuhal, i'm trying to keep up. I'm about one step ahead now.... just got my 2nd HLA. But, i'm struggling way more than you, I think.

And Alesia... what can I say? you're rockin'. Your use of buffs is genuinely mind-numbing and effective. Way beyond my meagerness.

In fact, I'll be needing some advice.

First the Viertes update:
I'd forgotten this... walking into the CC kills Yoshi:
i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr784.jpg
I understand why. I just think it's funny. "Hi Yoshi..." ... <cack>  :)

OK, as promised, I picked up Keldorn. While waiting for him to ...er... say goodbye to his wife, the group decided to raid the Mind Flayers in the sewers. They didn't engage, just sent Viccy in Sanctuaried to grab the loot and leave. (well, they took out the outermost room, just for fun... but left everyone else there).

Then it was off to Warden's keep.
first level wasn't bad at all
i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr792.jpg

Gave Keldorn a choice of swords -- the holy sword, the equalizer and a couple others picked up along the way. He was working out ok, but ... man... his dex sucks rocks. Gave him some potions to help, but ....sheesh. He's got a lot of hit points and needs all of them.

Second level wasn't much harder, really. Viccy made a level.
i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr794.jpg
Chromatic demon was a bit of a pain,

i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr805.jpg

but do-able.

Not comes the hard part.
Level three is a killer. First stop:
i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr809.jpg
It's not bad. But you can't cast any spells in here, basically. Not so good for a mage-type.

But the next room was brutal.
Viertes walks in and chats with Tahazzar a bit, so he doesn't turn hostile. When the conversation is done, she sets a trap -specifically a time-stop trap.
This was HLA #2, by the way. #1 was "use any item" so she could use the simulacrum helm. A mage/thief with a simularum and celestrial fury is wayyyy tough. A mage/thief with a time-stop trap... nasty.

the party summons in lots of help and pops some buffs.
I'd read somewhere that the secret to the fight is succubus, so Keldorn, Viertes-simulated, and a couple of the undead wander over to her. Then Viertes-sim backstabs her. (only it seems she's not...er... back-stab-able?) .

I'm not too worried, though. Keldorn, Viertes-sim and the undead are right next to her. And there are enough other creatures to distract the demons for a while.
Meanwhile, someone steps on the timestop

i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr811.jpg

(how sweeeeeet is that??)

Viertes decides to focus on the big dude, since there are so many focused already on the sucky-bus.  So she pops a lower resistance and spell sequencer with some magic missiles.
i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr812.jpg

Not so bad, but the demons are just tearing the summoned help apart. Viccy pulls in a couple fire elementals which go down almost as fast as she can bring them in. She gets trapped in a corner (well, not quite trapped, but partly blocked).
Everyone is still in good shape, but even the stupid succubus isn't down yet. And the bigger demons are barely hurt.
I blow a couple spells before i realize that they can't get anything off in the middle of the room.
i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr813.jpg

Next thing i know Keldorn is vorpal-ed and Viccy takes a couple hard hits. She'd down to under 10 hits and panicked.
i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr814.jpg

At this point, I figure it's over.
Viccy drops next round. And Viertes is pinned to the wall, with only a flesh golem and an Efreeti between her and King Vorpal.
I have to be honest. I got called away and paused the game for a long time here. I really expected to come back and end the run.
But i figured... meh... lets see what she's got in the scroll cases. And it so happened that she had this:
i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr815.jpg
(pretty freeekin' expensive scroll it is, too)

with time stopped I kinda knew there was nothing she could do that would rid the room of the succubus, 2 demons and the Chief. So she ran like a scaredy cat. She had boots of speed, so she made it to Keldorn's headless corpse and tossed all his stuff into her bad of holding.
(He'd promised his wife that this would be his last mission... not quite sure this is what she's expecting...)

Then she rushed to Viccy and shoved her body in the bag o' holding. Had to spend some time re-shifting inventory. Needed to drop off a few potions, useless junk and single use items. But got most everything of value.

i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr816.jpg

Viertes got out the door, just as the time stop wore off.
i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr817.jpg

She sold all of Keldorn's stuff and ended up with a pretty good bit of gold.
i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr818.jpg

All in all, Watcher's keep was profitable.... well... for everyone but Keldorn.

But i've no clue how to finish it, really.
If I pop back into that room, the demons will just attack. Since the room before it disallows spell casting, and since you have to pass through the portal, it makes prepping a bit tough.
I can't do anything cheezy anymore like set a time-stop trap. the demons will detect invisibility (I think?) and probably be able to keep Viertes from getting many spells off. Moreover, they're magic resistant anyway, so she'd probably have to cast lower resistance first.

Viccy can tank pretty well, but not sure that will be enough. And there isn't much time to get spells off during the combat itself.

So... advice? I'm thinking a teleport field may help? Or would the demons be immune?

Also thought about throwing as many buffs as I can in the room 2 rooms back, then casting Tensers Transformation, slipping on some kickin' armor (HLA -- "Use any item") and charging, maybe with Equalizer. Viertes could cast protection from magic weapons and protection from energy, but those are pretty short-lived spells. Would protection from normal weapons keep some of the demons from hitting?

Open to ideas.

right now, the party is :
viertes : mage/thief (14/17)
Viconia: cleric (21)

Thanks

Actually, was thinking of Chain Lightning, which is easy for the AI to use, just has crappy damage.  Still, Trigger 3x CL could be annoying if the roll was high (or if your saves got debuffed somehow).  Problem with that is it's the most crowded out of all in SCS, where mages come standard with GoI, Contingency, Mislead, PfMW, PfME, and Death Spell.

Maybe if they used Power Word: Blind?

Makes sense. However, CL requires a target so it should be foiled by II. She doesn't casually introduce summons to the battle field.

If the AI triggered it through II, then that would definitely be a reason to layer in SI:Ev.

Right.

Maybe if they used Power Word: Blind?

PW:B is a lot more potent against scripted foes. Alastria could just vanish and wait it out.

If she didn't want to wait, she could compensate for the THACO loss with Tenser's and or a Potion of Power. And if the install implemented the Blindness save penalty, she could use her Potions of Stone Form.

Best,

A.

Forlorn's progress
Looking at all the postings since Forlorn said she was entering the contest I see there's a long way to go - oh well better get on with it then!  Thus far Forlorn has:
- navigated the dungeon safely, though a bit more difficult than I expected.  I've been playing BG1 for some time with a party enhanced with vicious mod items and have got used to enemies all going down under a single volley of fire.  The lack of magic and general nerfing of missiles in BG2 means things take a bit longer!
- picked up Nalia and Jan to go with Jaheira, Minsc and Yoshimo from the dungeon.  At Nalia's keep worked down to the cellars, but then realised I had no protection against confusion.  Rather than go all the way back to the city, single characters exposed themselves to draw the monsters out - Jaheira and Yoshimo got killed as a result.  Headed back to the city to raise them and realised that I had left Yoshimo's equipment back at the keep!  Fortunately travel time was short and I got back before they decayed.
- left Nalia at the keep and recruited Angelo in her place.  Jan did some shopping with the help of a few potions to give the party a boost.  I didn't put any restrictions on him stealing, but haven't allowed the sale of any stolen items, so that cash needs to be honestly earned to buy much of the best equipment.  Although it's a bit of a risk in a non-reload I also got Jan to pickpocket Ribald to avoid the need to carry round healing spells.  There's a lot of congestion in backpacks now with potions and missiles.  Alesia commented on acquiring a nice dagger - Forlorn could really do with a boomerang dagger to avoid the need to stack up with all those throwing daggers.  Might have to risk the top level of Watcher's Keep as well soon as I remember from my sole previous trip there that there were lots of things to help inventory management.
- removed the new management from the circus tent.
- Minsc was pestering me about the need to help a little boy, so went to lighten the lives of those living in the shadow of the Umar Hills.
- attacked the annoying party in the promenade inn.  I expected that a hasted and invisible Jaheira would be able to get off an insect plague, but the opposition magician managed to release a confusion not just before the plague arrived, but in time to confuse Jaheira into not completing her spellPosted Image.  Jan threw in a cloudkill, but the magician was still hitting back and with all but two of the others confused things could have been nasty; was probably a bit fortunate not to lose anyone.
- Jaheira had been labouring under a curse for some time and was starting to complain and not carry her normal load, so went to find Baron Ployer to relieve her.
- following up a graveyard clue tracked down some kidnappers.  As Keldorn wasn't in the party with his goody-goody ways I didn't release her until obtaining a ransom.

One of the party in the Bridge District has a boomerang dagger(+2).

Alastria's Journal: Entry 17

Well, I spoke with Bodhi. It was a pretty important meeting. Here's what came out of it.

I'll start with the big news: Bodhi wants me to take down the Shadow Thieves leadership. She won't point the way to Imoen until I do. I have mixed feelings about this. I feel a little bad about going in there and icing all the thieves. But they are after me. And it would be really hard to run my nightclub with them constantly bugging me. Plus, Samuel says they pester him too- protection rackets and all. I bet they cause problems for others as well. I'd probably be doing the city a favor.

I think I'm going to go through with it. You'd think Bodhi would send some people to help me though. Whatever. I'm pretty sure I can handle it. I'm completely resistant to daggers and stuff in my Jelly and I do have my Stoneskins. It shouldn't be a problem.

Ok. Now here was the other interesting thing. Bodhi had NO interest in the case of water I gave her. She just told me to put it in the servants quarters. Chore gulped down a bottle, but that's all that came of it. Clearly something else is going on. Not sure what though.

Anyhoo. I have a big day tomorrow so I shouldn't stay up all night pondering. Better to sleep, do my thing, and see what happens.

Well, it's done. The Shadow Theives are out of business. It took me a while- I had to rest and all. But it wasn't really tough. I just used my basic tactics. Kill off fighter types in my Spidy, draw out spells in my Jelly, and then finish off the mages. Simple-dimple. I also spent some time just blasting stuff with Wands in my Jelly while immune to all their Short Swords, Bows, and Spells.

The only slightly tricky part was fighting the head guy- Aran Linvail. He had this little elfy mage at his side. And there were a bunch of other foofers around. It did look kind of intimidating at first.

Aran made a huge mistake though: he left his Katana +2 in the cabinent and fought me with his Short Sword. Clearly his spies didn't tell him how much I like Jelly. Once the Cleric and his Blunt weapon were dropped with Meteors in my Human form, I laid down some Webs and went Jelly.  I was totally immune to everything he and his pals could throw at me- aside from a few random summons that were hardly scary. It was just a matter of time before I widdled the pack down. I finished Aran with my Bhaalspawn Power Vamipric Touch.

I told Bodhi. She said she's going to ship me off to some island where I can find Imoen. It's about time Bodhi! But while I'm peeved about the delay, it does seem like she is going to come through. Bodhi may not be friend material, but at least her word is worth something.

So yeah. It seems like everything's workin' out- even if it isn't quite what I hoped. I'm not fretting over all the mysteries anymore. So long as I get to Imoen, it just doesn't matter.

I'm kind of looking forward to seeing this island. I mean, I grew up on the coast: I'm a beach girl. I like the city life but I need to see the shore sometimes. Maybe Immy and I can swim, do some sunbathing- stuff like that. It'll be a good way for us to re-bond and catch up. That would be fun. I can't find this Brynnlaw place in Lonely Planet though. They've got to have a couple beaches and cabanas though right? Maybe a little bar with fruity drinks and a dance floor. They've got to have that- it's an island

Anyhoo. I'm going to leaving soon, but I want to do some shopping first. You know, pick up some beach towels and stuff for me and Imoen. Once that's taken care of, I think I'll be ready. I can't wait.

Ok. I better get going. Nara and I are going to head over to the Flagons for a drink. I'm going to introduce her to Haer Daelis. She likes brainy types. It's a shame that Valygar's so far a way. It might be fun if he joined us. I'd like to hang out with him sometime. I've even been thinking about bringing him to Brynnlaw for Imoen. You know, kind as a present and all. Not sure though. I have to admit that I'm a little sweet on Valy. Maybe Immy will like the Druid. That could work...Decisions, decisions.

And Alesia... what can I say? you're rockin'. Your use of buffs is genuinely mind-numbing and effective. Way beyond my meagerness.

That's kind of you to say. :)

But you know, Viertas is further along than Alastria. She's been doing well.

In fact, I'll be needing some advice.

Demons aren't immune to Teleport Field. You could use a 3 Telefield Sequencer to give yourself some space. Just be sure you have a plan for using the room...

If need be, do remember that you have access to another Time Stop via Limited Wish- assuming you haven't consumed the scroll.

You may also want  to consider equipping someone with the Defender+Vhailor+Cloak of the Sewers and then have the Simmy go Rat. It would be immune to all the Demons physical attacks and could therefore run distraction. Just be sure that you equip the Peripat or anything else that might be needed to foil weapon related effects. Also, if you switch to Rat form in the Dead Magic Zone, it will dispel the claws allowing you to use your normal weapons. That may feel dirty though...

Quick note on Alastria's Game:

In case anyone is curious, here are the Den of Seven Vales and Sewers party fights. The pictures tell the story. No damage in either of them.

As you might imagine, Dead Magic Zones aren't my favorite places to be. Frankly, my advice would be to leave it alone for now.

I'm curious though...What is Viertas's Wisdom? Do you have a Limited Wish scroll? Assuming Viertas could heal faster than the demons could damage her, how many rounds would it take her to finish at 3 APR with a Strength of 18/00?

I do have limited wish, so that's a possibility. I've shelved the battle  for now and headed back to town to finish a couple things up, but it bugs me that i can't nail it.
I'll probably go back and loose my no reload there :D

I'm thinking i'll have to tank up viertes and Viccy and do it the old fashioned mele way. With enough potions and buffs, they *should* do ok.

Understood. So you know, I read the post quickly the first time and thought you were fighting IN a Dead Magic zone- not after one. I've changed the remarks above.

I haven't really written much of this run but here's what I have:

I'm sorry I haven't properly introduced Terra Tangle
Fighter/mage female half elf lawful good
str 18/82 dex 17 con 18 int 18 wis 10 char 3

The Adventures of Terra Tangle

Quests completed so far: Escaping from Irenicus' Dungeon, Circus Tent, Windspear Paladins, First part of slaver quest. During the Harper Hold quest, Terra chaos-ed Prebek and he went outside and killed two peasants. Apparently this warrants other peasants in the area to become hostile. I've counted only two.
One of the neutrals was a harlot, Terra charmed her and lead her into one of the bandit attacks at night. The bandits killed her, it was a sacrifice well made(with no rep loss). The other hostile was chased by Terra in the Sea Bounty Inn, he sure gets around alot. But when he left Sea Bounty, he left completely, no trace of him. Not sure what went on, but an interesting thing of notice.

Druid Grove

Terra discovers that polymorph>spider is an excellent way to dispose of trolls. Melf's magic meteors are not necessary. After getting Cernd to defeat Faldorn by himself, Terra went over and acquired Belm. This scimitar increases the attacks of all the polymorphed forms! It is quite amazing because several forms get six attacks per round! She finishes up the Slaver and Harper quests afterwards.
Paying the License

Terra pays to cast magic in the city. Afterwards she defeats Mencar's group in the Seven Vales, sells the loot and then pays off Gaelen Bayle to reach Chapter 3. The quests to get more rings of air control was underway, Terra decided to begin investigating Mae'var for the Shadow Thieves, and defeats Tarner's group in the temple sewers. Terra was afraid that Gaius was still alive, but he really wasn't, killed by one of Terra's fireballs.

Rayic Gethras

Our heroine Terra Tangle is sent to murder a mage by the name of Rayic Gethras. She attempts to prepare by buying two more rings of air control, as well as two potions of fire resistance. In the Seas Bounty Inn, she meets up with the hostile peasant who has been entering and leaving the Bounty. Terra charms him and leads him over to a stairway and tries to place him inbetween two sailors. Hopefully he won't be able to go up the stairs and into the main Dock area.
The preparation for Rayic Gethras was spell immunity abjuration, fire resistance potions, minor globe of invulnerability, mirror image, stoneskin, and of course jelly form.

The actual battle turned out to be a bit different then envisioned. For one thing, Terra's own preparations probably made it easier then it probably should have been. In the end, Terra did not transform into a jelly, rather, she pelted Rayic Gethras to death with melf's magic meteors. In truth it was probably the meteors which stopped most of Rayic Gethras' most deadly of spells. Rayic couldn't do much of anything because the moment one of the rings ran out, Terra immediately used up another one. With cloak of nondetection, Terra wasn't sure if it had an impact on Rayic's true sight(probably did) so in the end, Rayic couldn't do much of anything. It was Rayic's trigger then removed Terra's mirror image but that really didn't stop the onslaught. Rayic died soon enough to Terra's Wvyren tail+2. Terra now has found proof of Mae'var's treachery and is in preparation to attack his stronghold.
